BIRD
Dale N. Bird, age 62, died at Veterans' Hospital on Friday, July 6, 2001. He is survived by his companion, Dorothy Fisher; two daughters, Pamela Hoover of Greenville, N.C. and Patty Fisher of Richmond; five sons, Carl, Clay and Billy of Georgia, Christopher and Curtis of Richmond; three stepsons, Buck, Jimmy and Tommy Fisher of Richmond; one sister, Lucille Crank of West Virginia; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., on Monday at 7 p.m. Please omit flowers.

BOYKIN
Alma Lucile Lanier Boykin, 88, of Richmond, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in a Richmond hospital. Born on March 7, 1913 in Wakefield, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Robin Lanier and Durley Van Laine Lanier. She was a retired beautician, a member of the Wakefield Congregational Christian Church and the widow of Norman M. Boykin. She is survived by a son, James K. Boykin and his wife, Francelina C. Boykin; and two grandsons, Alexander N.T. Boykin and Nicholas S. Boykin, all of Richmond; a sister, Dorothy L. Birdsong; sisters-in-law, Lillian B. Travis, Lucille Lanier and Catherine Lanier, all of Wakefield; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at 4 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Laine Family Cemetery near Wakefield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department.

BROCKINGTON

BROUGHTON
Nancy Ruth Hedgecock Broughton of Richmond, Va. died July 4, 2001. She was the widow of Oliver Broughton. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Ogburn of Danville, Va.; her brother, Harvey Hedgecock of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her sons, David Broughton, John Broughton and his wife, Donna, H. Paul Broughton and his wife, Martha; grandchildren, Anne Claire Broughton, Alex Broughton, Rebecca Broughton, Nancy Nelkin and Austin Welder; and three great-grandchildren. She was born in 1912 in Walnut Cove, N.C. and received a BA from the College of William and Mary in 1934 and a master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1972. She taught English and was a guidance counselor for many years at Thomas Dale High School in Chesterfield County, Va. After her retirement in 1977, she had a second career in the activities department of the Lucy Corr Nursing Home. In addition, she devoted the last 39 years of her life to the care of her injured son, David. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 9 at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monument Avenue at Stuart Circle. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The family will also receive friends at the Lucy Corr Nursing Home at Chesterfield Courthouse on Sunday, July 8, 5 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lucy Corr Village Foundation.

BULLOCK
Inez Henley Bullock, 78, of Henrico Co., died Thursday, July 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Grover C. Bullock; a son, Frederick Bullock and his wife, Dale; a daughter, Joan Isaacs and her husband, Ron; a grandson, James Bullock; two granddaughters, Christina, Crist and Dana Keup; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Shiflett. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday (today) at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Entombment Westhampton Memorial Park Mausoleum.

CROWE
Martha Kemp Crowe of Millers Tavern, died July 6, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert L. Crowe and Russell L. Crowe. She was born in King and Queen Co., but lived most of her life in Richmond, where she was employed by the American Tobacco Co. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Georgia C. Brooks and Helen Kemp; and beloved nieces and nephews. She was a member of Smyrna Christian Church Bruington, where a service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday. Family will receive friends at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

DAVIS
Mr. Wilbert B. Davis, formerly of Red Oak, Va., departed this life July 4, 2001 in Lynchburg, Va. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lafay D. and Warren Brown of Forestville, Md.; two grandsons, Wesley and Winston Brown; two sisters, Elaine D. Dunn of Richmond, Va., Marian Cook of Altavista, Va.; two brothers, Vernon and John Davis of Lynchburg, Va.; host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 3 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Red Oak, Va. Interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Holmes of Lynchburg, Va., officiating. Remains rest at Wilson Funeral Home, 125 Wilson St., Keysville, Va.

DEBOER
David Emmett Deboer Sr., 45, of Richmond, formerly of Waynesboro, departed this life after a brave battle with cancer on July 5, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Daniel Deboer Sr. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline D. Deboer; one son, David Emmett Deboer Jr.; two daughters, Kelly Ann and Margaret Kathleen Deboer; his mother and stepfather, June D. and Jesse R. Noell; mother-in-law, Vivian Sheridan; one sister, Mary Beth Pearce and her husband, Tom; one brother, Daniel Deboer and his wife, Catherine; three nephews, Jacob Deboer, Austin and Ben Pearce; with many other devoted family and friends. Mr. Deboer was a self-employed cabinet maker for 20 years. A memorial service will be held 2:30 Sunday, July 8 at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Noah's Children Hospice, 6954 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, VA 23225.

FAISON
Marilyn R. Faison, 64, of Richmond, died Thursday, July 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Faison; her children, Larry, David, Beth and Trish; four grandchildren, Jimmy, William, Stephanie and Kristina; and an aunt, June Dunbar. Mrs. Faison was a volunteer at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and a member of the First Unitarian Church on Blanton Ave. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

GIBSON
Diane Covington Gibson of Mechanicsville died July 6, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stuart Gibson. Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Susan Gibson. Other survivors include her sons and daughter, Steven Gibson, Kevin Gibson and his wife, Robin, and Robin Walsh and her husband, Keith; grandchildren, Chase Gibson, Kristi and Nicole Walsh; brother, James Covington Jr.; sister, Sharleen Hudson. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

HANCOCK
Anna Meredith Hancock, age 96, a lifelong resident of Henrico Co., died Friday, July 6, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John B. Proffit Sr. and Wiley E. Hancock; her son, John B. (J.B.) Proffit Jr. Her survivors include three grandchildren, John B. Proffit III, Janet S. Proffit, Kathy P. and her husband, Steve P. Dillard; five great-grandchildren, Meg and Sarah Walker, John David May, Jason and Emily Dillard; also a devoted daughter-in-law, Glenna L. Proffit; and a sister, Eva Meredith Coates. Mrs. Hancock was a member of Deep Run Baptist Church. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

HICKS
Leon Virgil Hicks entered eternal rest at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, Va. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Estelle; one daughter, Trisha of Powhatan; two sons, Cornelius of Richmond and Rodney of Powhatan; one daughter-in-law, Wanda; two granddaughters, Sabrina and Amber of Powhatan; two grandsons, Brandon of Maryland and Ryan of Richmond; a sister, Roslyn Hicks of Richmond; four brothers, Raymond Jr. of Richmond and lifelong friend, Minnie Gillard, Rev. Revell and wife, Barbara of Powhatan, Jackie of Angeles City, Philippines and Stanley of Powhatan, Va.; three aunts, Edna Brown of Powhatan, Va., Thelma Branch and husband, Andrew of Richmond, Va., Bertha Gray and husband, Alfred, of Riverhead, L.I., N.Y.; two devoted nieces, Kelley and Sherry; mother-in-law, Blanche Taylor; two devoted sisters-in-law, Tina and Mary; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. His remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home, Cumberland, Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan, Va., where remains will lie in state from 12 to 2 p.m. Rev. James Robinson, Pastor, officiating. Family and friends assemble at the church at 1:30 p.m. Interment in church cemetery.

Departed this life July 6, 2001, Mrs. Inell B. Johnson, formerly of 1512 N. 20th St. Remains rest at Walter J. Maning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

MATTHEWS
Mrs. Mollie F. Matthews of Chester, Va. was born April 14, 1945 in Flushing, Queens, New York and died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at MCV Hospital in Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Nile Kenneth Fitch and Mrs. Rosemary Slocomb Fitch of Pocomoke City, Md. She is survived by her husband, Donald G. Matthews; and their children, Elizabeth Ashley Matthews and Jeffrey Kenneth Matthews. Mrs. Matthews was a dedicated career social worker. She was a 1963 graduate of Orange County (Va.) High School. She received an Associates Degree from Averett College in 1965 and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from East Carolina University in 1967. Funeral arrangements are private. Memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Blood Services, 2201 Westwood Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230, Attn: Lynn Miller.

PARRISH
Lucille Hurst Parrish, 87, of Kilmarnock, widow of Harold D. Parrish, died July 6, 2001. She is survived by two children, David B. Parrish of Arlington and Sherry Swan of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, Mark Sullivan of Brookland Heights, New York and Evan Sullivan of Salt Lake City, Utah; one great-grandson, Harry Winston Sullivan of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Marjorie Butler of Kilmarnock and Helen Kesby of Littlestown, Pa; and one sister-in-law, Frances Hurst of Burgess. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9 at 11 a.m. in the Bluff Point United Methodist Church with interment in the Historic Christ Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bluff Point United Methodist Church, 256 Landon Hall Lane, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482.
