Myrna Carroll McKenney Acors
(July 3, 1937 - October 12, 2011)

Myrna Carroll McKenney Acors, 74, of Lancaster died peacefully on October 12, 2011. She was born on July 3, 1937 daughter of the late Julian Carroll McKenney, Jr. and Meredith Palmer McKenney.

She learned the tax preparation business from her grandfather while still in high school and continued in the business for over 50 years. She taught speech therapy in the Gloucester school system for seven years. Myrna managed the Kilmarnock branch of the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Savings and Loan and was the bookkeeper at the Southern States grain elevator in Kilmarnock. She was the Founder and Broker of Acors Real Estate and later Area Real Estate Associates. A graduate of the Realtors Institute of UVA, in 1986 she served as President of the Northern Neck Board of Realtors and was a life member of the American Society of Notaries.

Myrna was a life member of The Society of the Lees of Virginia, a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution for 44 years; Served as the Senior National Vice President Mid Southern Region for the Children of the American Revolution; and was the Virginia Division Vice President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; and served as a senior leader of the Children of the Confederacy. She was dedicated to the preservation of Lancaster County’s historic resources and served on the Lancaster County Historic Resources Commission for many years.

Surviving are two sons, John Kendall Acors of White Stone and Carroll Leroy “Lee” Acors and wife, Debbie of Chesapeake; two granddaughters, Brittany Ann Acors and Elizabeth Lee Acors both of Chesapeake; a sister, Frances Lee Gillum and husband, Richard of Huntsville Texas.

Services will be private

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) or a charity of your choice.

Sylvia Dozier
(August 9, 1936 - October 18, 2011)

Graduated in 1958 from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing and retired as a Public Health Visiting Nurse for the City of Richmond in 1994. She was active in the Northern Neck community for 15 years serving as docent and past Chairman of the Volunteer Council for the Foundation for Historic Christ Church, providing training to diabetic patients at the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic and singing in the choir at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Curtis L. Dozier, her children Sara Dozier White of Alexandria, David C. Dozier of Richmond, Jill Dozier Zelman of Leesburg and Stephen J. Dozier of Richmond and her grandchildren Nick, Maddie and Alex White; Tanner and Jack Zelman; and James and Will Dozier. She is also survived by her sister Rose Williams of Norfolk. Services will be held at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church on Saturday October 22nd at 11am with a reception immediately following. Frances Priscilla Osborne Ambrose
(December 14, 1922 - October 11, 2011)

Frances Priscilla Osborne Ambrose, 88, of Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury, Irvington died on October 11, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gerald Ambrose.

Surviving are a son, William G. Ambrose, Jr. of Poland, Maine; a daughter, Catherine A. Smith of Fredricksburg, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15 at Historic Christ Church Burying Ground, Irvington with The Rev. David May officiating.

Helen Margie Bower
(September 24, 1923 - October 4, 2011)

Helen Margie Bower, 88, of Lancaster died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Swenchonis.

Surviving are her husband, Harold E. Bower; three daughters, Cheryl Revere of Lancaster, Judy O’Brien of Mechanicsville and Connie Bratvold of Bonney Lake, Washington; seven grandchildren, Amanda Stuart, Bethany Revere, Mike Hooper, Sparkle Shaw, Nikki Ray, Haley Miller and Eric Alton; ten great grandchildren, Wyatt, Ryan, April, Amber, Daniel, Gavin, Mike, Matt, Chris and Liam.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8 at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock with Rev. Robert O. Jones officiating. Interment in Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery, Lively. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Randolph William Anthony
(October 26, 1938 - October 14, 2011)

Randolph William Anthony, 72, of Richmond died on October 14, 2011. He was the widower of Lucy Sherman Anthony and a retired automotive body technician with McGeorge Toyota.

Surviving are his daughter, Denyse Anthony Rhodes; a grandson, Robby Anthony Rhodes; a great grandson, Logan Anthony Rhodes all of Sandston; mother, Lottie A. Taft of Lancaster; brothers and sisters, Bernard Anthony, Jr. of Mineral, Gloria Abbott of Woodstock, Diana A. Lowery of Mechanicsville, Larry Anthony of Dutton and Drena Smith of Wicomico Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Anthony, Sr., a sister, Dorothy Efford and a brother, George Anthony.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 20 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock with Rev. Donna Blythe officiating. Interment will be in Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery, Lively. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 19 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Welfare League, P. O. Box 975, White Stone 22578.

Mary Ellen Haydon
(January 9, 1927 - October 12, 2011)

Mary Ellen Haydon, 84, of Weems died October 12, 2011.

Surviving are a son, Charles W. Haydon and wife, Susan; a daughter, Jane H. Mitchell and husband, Bill all of Weems; five grandchildren; one great grandchild.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15 at Campbell Memorial cemetery, Weems. Friends may call 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, October 14 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.

Margy Ketnor George
(July 31, 1923 - October 3, 2011)

Margy Ketnor George, 88, of White Stone died on Monday, October 3, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hurley George and a daughter, Emily G. Carter. Mrs. George was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Foxwells.

Surviving are a son, Warner H. George and wife, Peggy L. of Kilmarnock; five daughters, Beatrice Cook of Ruther Glen, Barbara Jarrels of Bumpass, Dixie Flester and husband, Ken of White Stone, Jewel George of King William and Wendy Ashburn of Weems; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

Services will be private

Louise Smith Bragg
Departed on Feb. 23, 2004 and resided in Richmond, VA.

Louise Smith Bragg, 87, of Westminster Canterbury, died February 23, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton A. Bragg; and her sister, Gladys S. Bowles. She is survived by her sister, Audrey S. Grissom; her brother, Bill L. Smith and his wife, Virginia; her nieces and nephews, LaVerne Abrams, Vivian May, Brenda Clarke, Dwight Grissom, Wayne Smith, David Smith and Linda Seawell; also a special friend, Dr. Fred Baublitz. Mrs. Bragg was a long time employee of the Reynolds Metals Company. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Tuesday (today) at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn cemetery.

John Steven Montgomery
(May 31, 1957 - October 3, 2011)

John Steven Montgomery, 54, of Kilmarnock died on October 3, 2011. He was a member of the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department and an electrician.

Surviving are his wife, Laura C. Montgomery; four daughters, Chelsea D. Montgomery, Kelley L. Montgomery both of Kilmarnock, Stacy L. Montgomery and Martae M. Montgomery both of Winter Haven, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kaydence and Brody; a sister, Shelia K. Montgomery of Maryland.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m.Thursday, October 6 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment will be private. Friends may call 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James " Jimmy " Otha Sheppard, Jr.
(April 16, 1952 - September 30, 2011)

James “Jimmy” Otha Sheppard, Jr., 59, of White Stone died on Friday, September 30, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents James Otha Sheppard, Sr. and Elizabeth Sheppard Barnett and a son, James “Jamie” Otha Sheppard, III. Mr. Sheppard was a member of Claybrook Baptist Church, a lifelong waterman and a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Glenda Hall Sheppard; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Sheppard Boswell; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Cody James Donovan; five sisters, Janet S. Schneider and husband, Ben, Paula S. Luckham and husband, Maurice, Paulette S. Campbell and husband, Paul, Ann S. George all of White Stone, Myrteen S. George and husband, Donald of Georgia; a brother Ronald Sheppard and wife, Anita; loyal and lifelong friends, Harman and Sandra Treakle all of White Stone; sister-in-law, Kathy Bray and husband, Ronnie; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Hall and wife, Angela, Jimmy Hall and wife, Janice all of Heathsville; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 3 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock with Rev. William Burrough officiating. Interment will be in White Stone Baptist Church cemetery, White Stone. Friends may call 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Helena Heckart Dunkle
(May 9, 1910 - September 21, 2011)

Helena “Lene” Heckart Dunkle, 101, of Kilmarnock died peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. She was a long time resident of Burgess where she and her husband built their cottage together. She had been a resident of Commonwealth Assisted Living for the past eight years. Lene as she was affectionately known led a full and exciting life of traveling the world with her husband. She enjoyed visits from her friends and family and always enjoyed gardening, reading and current affairs. She was very fond of her church and church family and was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Kilmarnock.

Lene was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. David H. Dunkle. She is survived by her loving daughter, Ann D. David of Bryan, Texas; four grandchildren, Reginald David of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Victoria David Thune of Griggstown, New Jersey, Tatiana David Toso of Gonars, Italy and Michael David of Pennington, New Jersey; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family request memorial contribution be made in her name to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 1366, Kilmarnock 22482

A memorial service will be held at a later time.

Barbara Edwards Revere
(March 25, 1934 - September 15, 2011)

REVERE, Barbara “Bobbie” Edwards, 77, of Regina died on Thursday, September 15, 2011. She was the widow of James W. Revere, Sr.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene R. and Joe Scott of Regina; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Tammy Revere of Regina; six grandchildren, Joey Scott and wife Tish, Jennifer Holland, Sarah Sutton, Tonya Conkle and husband Aaron, Becky Revere and Daniel Revere; great grandchildren, Xavier, Elizabeth, Aliza and Laura Sutton, Jameson and Ewan Scott, Olivia Conkle, and Allison Mae Tyson; a sister, Jean E. Reynolds of Irvington.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18 at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Kilmarnock. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service.

Rosalie Jannetta Reitter
(September 5, 1941 - September 14, 2011)

Rosalie Jannetta Reitter, 70, of Heathsville died on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. She was graduate of St. Elizabeth College in Madison, N. J. Mrs. Reitter was a retired teacher in the New Jersey public school system. She was an active member of the Historyland Community Workshop.

Surviving are her husband of 41 years, John A. Reitter; three sons, Eric Reitter and wife, Pam of New Providence, N. J., Kevin Reitter of Chapel Hill, N. C. and Brian Reitter and wife, Gianne of San Diego, Cal.; two grandchildren, E. J. and Ryan Reitter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, Kilmarnock. Interment private. The family will receive friends 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.

Otis Philemon George, Jr.
(September 17, 1933 - September 10, 2011)

Otis Philemon George, 77, of Kilmarnock died on Saturday, September 10, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Edwards George. Mr. George was a retired marine inspector for VMRC and a retired police officer for the Town of Kilmarnock.

Surviving are a nephew, Billy Mac George of Virginia Beach; two brothers-in-law, Thomas D. Edwards and wife, Jackie and James Edwards and wife, Frances all of Kilmarnock; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Shelton of Richmond; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 13 at Currie Funeral Home Kilmarnock with Rev. John H. Farmer officiating. Interment will be in the Seventh Day Adventist Church cemetery, Kilmarnock. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
