Hester J. White

Hester Jane White, 78, of Palatka, FL, formerly of Whitewood, died June 14, 2004 in a Welaka, FL rest home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Whitewood, she was a daughter of the late Witcher and Ernestine Compton Mullins, both Whitewood natives.

She had made her home in the Whitewood area before moving to Florida 42 years ago and was a member of the Flatwood Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil White; one sister, Alice Dotson; and two brothers, Paul and Chester Mullins.

Survivors: daughters, Grendia Keene and husband, Roger, of Jewell Ridge, Patricia Cornelio and husband, Eddie, Anita Bentley and Gwen Hume and husband, Richard, all of Florahome, FL; son, Cubert White and wife, Mary, of Palatka; sister, Freda Robinson and husband, John H., of Wachula, FL; grandchildren, Rusty and Thresa White, Shawn Keene, Patrick and Donna White, Jeffery Keene, Haylan Cornelio, Buskel and Miracle Keene, Zachariah Hume, and Seth Hume; and great-grandchildren, Gary White, Shane White, Ramie Allen, Logan Cecil White, Lacie White, Wyatt Marx, and Perry Keene.

The funeral was conducted June 18 at 1 p.m. at the Flatwood Church of Christ on Compton Mt. near Whitewood with Hobert Kennedy, Clarence Herron, and Arthur Mullins officiating.

Interment followed in the White Family cemetery on White Mt. near Whitewood.

Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy R. Williams

Nancy Rebecca Williams, 81, of the Witten Valley section of Tazewell, died June 15, 2004 in a Tazewell hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Troy and Margaret Kinder Wright, both Tazewell County natives.

She had made her home in the Tazewell area all of her life and attended the Assembly of God in Tazewell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry Williams, and several sisters and brothers.

Survivors: daughter, Gale Crabtree and husband, Dale, of Pensacola, FL; sons, Kenneth Williams and wife, Pattie, of Manassas, David Williams and Hank Williams and wife, Debbie, all of Tazewell; sisters, Manie Hill of Tazewell, Anne Benton of Maryland, Ella Johnson and husband, Howard, of Ft. Meyers, FL, Margaret Wilson and husband, Frank, of Manassas; brother, Otis Wright of Maryland; and four grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted June 18 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Doug Johnson and Rev. Max Linkous officiating.

Interment followed at the Maplewood cemetery in Tazewell.

Karen S. Wyatt

Karen Sue Cole Wyatt, 46, of Claypool Hill, died June 15, 2004 at her home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Richlands, she was the daughter of Harriet Dye Cole of Ponderosa Heights and the late Rufus W. Cole.

She was an employee for Acme Markets at Doran for over 25 years.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Byrd Ellis Cole and Okie Sparks Cole, and her maternal grandparents, Clarence S. Dye and Hazel E. Dye.

Additional survivors: husband, David Wyatt; daughter, Kara Alexandria Wyatt of the home; sister, Valerie Cole and husband, Larry, of Lebanon; brother, Byrd Ellis Cole and wife, Pamela, of Jersey; two nieces; and two nephews.

The funeral was conducted June 18 at 2 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Carl Howell officiating.

Burial followed in the Russell Memorial cemetery at Lebanon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kara Wyatt Scholarship Fund, 139 Cherry Lane, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609.

Clarence G. Barrett

Clarence Gordon Barrett, 77, of Bluefield, VA, died June 8, 2004 following a long illness.

He was the son of the late Luther T. Barrett and Rosa Tolbert Barrett.

After graduating from Graham High School in 1944, he served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1946, and discharged from the Naval Reserves in 1954. He completed his formal education with a degree in engineering from Bluefield College in 1948, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1951. While working in the aviation industry, he lived in Columbus, OH, for 35 years.

He was project manager for numerous advanced defense projects, including the B-1 Bomber. After retirement in 1984 from North American Rockwell, now Boeing, he returned to Bluefield, VA, where he was an active member, holding various leadership positions, at Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masons of Ralph R. Rickly Lodge No. 670, F. & A.M. and of Commandery No. 001 Mt. Vernon Knights Templar Columbus. He was a past Worthy Patron of the Bluefield Virginia Chapter 102 Order of the Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lanning Barrett; two brothers, Roger Zane Barrett and Glen Barrett; and one stepson, Jack E. Richardson.

Survivors: wife, Cecile S. Barrett; son, Ricky L. Barrett and wife, Linda, of Columbus; grandsons, Jordan and Justin of Columbus; stepdaughter, Lisa R. Beckman of Atlanta, GA; brother, L.L. “Friday” Barrett of Bluefield, VA; and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral was conducted June 11 at 11 a.m. at the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Murphy and Rev. Larry Ramey officiating.

Burial followed in the Maple Hill cemetery.

Graveside services were conducted by the VFW Memorial Post 9696, Bluefield, VA, and the Pocahontas American Legion Post 14.

Donations may be made to the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church.

Dudley Memorial Mortuary, in Bluefield, VA, was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes L. Boyd

Agnes Lydia Joyce Boyd, 90, of Richlands, died June 14, 2004 in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Rhoda Octave Stevenson Joyce.

She was a member of the Richlands Tabernacle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reese Boyd; four children, Billy Creed Boyd, Leland Charles Boyd, Loretta Geneva Boyd and Harold Stanley Boyd; five brothers, Charlie Joyce, Burley Joyce, Emory Joyce, Howard Joyce and Hufford Joyce; and two sisters, Nannie Horn and Beulah Whitt. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation.

Survivors: daughter, Beulah (Jean) Rose of Cedar Bluff; son, Michael Boyd and wife, Linda, of Claypool Hill; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Ralph Horton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Samuel B. Cataline

Samuel Brandon Cataline, 23, of Falls Mills, died June 11, 2004 in Tazewell following an automobile accident.

Born in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of Clarence Catiline and Brenda Markiewicz Cataline of Falls Mills.

He was an employee of Cataline Paving and Sealing Co. He was a graduate of Graham High School in 1999, where he was a member of the Wrestling Team and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield.

Additional survivors: fiancée, Miranda Phillips of Baptist Valley; daughter, Madlyn Jade Cataline of Baptist Valley; grandparents, Jessie Catiline of Cleveland, OH, Helen Berry of Princeton, WV; brother, Jason Cataline of Dallas, TX; sister, Kirstie Cataline of Falls Mills; and nieces, Dodie and Lindsey Hagy of Tazewell.

Mass of Christian Burial was held June 14 at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Patsy Iaquinti officiating.

Burial followed in the Maple Hill cemetery in Bluefield, VA.

A Christian Wake Service was conducted June 13 at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA, at 8:30 p.m.

Juanita J. Clark

Juanita Jenkins Clark, 82, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord June 7, 2004.

Born in Jenkins, KY, she attended Covenant Community Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Ervin Clark; her father, George Ewing Jenkins; her mother, Nannie Dennis Jenkins Hollyfield; one son, Lowell Talmadge Clark; two brothers, Ewing Wilfred Jenkins and Essie Lee Jenkins; and three sisters, Lois Jean Stein, Anna Mae Urps and Virginia Vandevender.

Survivors: sister, Dorothy Helen James of Charlottesville; brothers, Dennis Ray Jenkins and Hobert Charles Jenkins, both of Palmyra; sons, Howard Ewing Clark and wife, Phyllis, of Roanoke, William Dewitt Clark and wife, Amy, of New Castle, George Edward Clark of Mt. Pleasant, PA, Floyd Wilmer Clark and wife, Sandra, of Salem; daughters, Nancy Yvonne Mitchell of Jewell Valley, Sonja Kay Stiltner and husband, Danny, of Troutville, Lotus Naomi Maness and Mary Ruth Arnold and husband, Charles, all of Roanoke, Wilma Ann Lilze of Vinton, Carol Sue Compton and husband, Page, of Pilgrims Knob; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including long time friend and fishing buddy, Rosie Reynolds of New Castle, and close friend Eva Gilbert.

The funeral was conducted June 11 at 11 a.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. David Horton officiating.

Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Friends called June 9 at Lotz Salem Chapel in Salem and June 10 at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff.

Harry L. Dalton

Harry Leonard Dalton, 97, of Bluefield, VA, died June 9, 2004 in a Bluefield hospital.

Born in Graham, he was a son of the late William Riley Dalton and Winnie Catherine Portis Dalton.

He was a member of the Harman Lodge #222 A.F. & A.M. and also of the Graham Commandry and was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad after many years of service. He was also a member of the Graham Historic Society and St. Lukes Senior Fiends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Clifton Dalton; one brother, William Clyde Dalton; and one sister, Cecile Dalton Scott.

Survivors: daughter, Ann Simmons and husband, Larry, of Bluefield; grandchildren, James Michael Simmons and wife, Lisa, of Denton, TX, Stephen Paul Simmons of Bluefield, Karen Elizabeth Simmons of Knoxville, TN; and great-grandchildren, Maxwell Dalton Simmons, Jacob Stephen Simmons and Michael Lyle Simmons.

Graveside services were conducted June 12 at 2 p.m. at the Maple Hill cemetery in Bluefield, VA. Services were conducted by the Harman Lodge #222 A.F. & A.M., Bluefield, VA.

Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA, was in charge of arrangements.

Eunice F. Endicott

Eunice F. Horn Endicott, 81, of Richlands, died June 11, 2004 at her home following a long illness.

Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Julie Keen Horn.

She was a member of the Big Branch Church of Christ at Dismal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Endicott, and four brothers, Alfred Horn, Coy Horn, Thurman Horn and Jack Horn.

Survivors: son, Jerry Endicott of Richlands; daughters, Kassie (Dean) Elswick and husband, Randy, of Paintlick, Wilma Settle and husband, James, and Betty Burress and husband, Alan, all of Pounding Mill, Judy Zvonar and husband, Greg, of Winchester, MA; sister, Gracie Sturgeon of Danville, OH; grandchildren, David Elswick, Eric Tiller and James Settle; and great-grandchildren, Patrick Tiller and Brittany Tiller.

The funeral was conducted June 14 at 11 a.m. at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Harvey Horn officiating.

Burial followed in the Clinch Valley Memorial cemetery at Richlands.

Roy Lee Hagy

Roy Lee Hagy, 62, of Springville, died June 11, 2004 in a Roanoke hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late James Oscar and Afton Lowe Hagy, both Tazewell County natives.

This loving father and husband made his home in the Springville area and worked most of the last 40 years for Limestone Dust Corporation. He was a most extraordinary man who was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed by family, co-workers, and friends. He was of the Pentecostal Faith.

Survivors: wife, Josephine Street Hagy; daughters, Denise Stasheen and husband, Charles, and Nancy Roberts and husband, Chris, all of North Tazewell, Terri Akers of Rocky Gap, Tina McClanahan of Bluefield, VA; sisters, Jane Mitchell and husband, Glen, of Roanoke, Rita Fox and husband, Ed, and Freda Fox and husband, Grat, all of North Tazewell; brothers, Charlie Hagy and wife, Charlotte, of Marshalville, GA, Gene Hagy and wife, Mary, of Camden, TN; grandchildren, Kayla Stasheen and fiancé, Rob Cornwell, Chad and Chase Stasheen, Travis and Caitlin Akers, Eric and Steven McClananhan, Danielle and Dustin Spivey, and Dakota Roberts, all of whom were at his side on his peaceful but heartbreaking departure.

The funeral was conducted June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Danny Cornwell and Rev. Ancil Childress officiating.

Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
