Departed this life December 26, 2001, Mr. William H. "Chip" "June" Pauley Jr. of Richmond. He is survived by one daughter, Tamatha Pauley; one brother, James A. Pauley; one sister, Bonita Pauley; four nieces, four nephews; one uncle, William Rembert of Bridgeport, Conn.; a host of cousins; one sister-in-law, Darlene Pauley; other relatives and friends, among them two devoted friends, Shirley Johnson and Jesse Brown. Mr. Pauley was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service with over 30 years service. Remains rest at the Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday, Rev. D.R. Ampey officiating. Burial Mr. Calvary Cemetery.

POLLARD
Waverly C. Pollard, 59, of Richmond, died December 30, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. Arrangments incomplete. Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal, Va.

RICE
Katie Alma Terrell Rice, 89, a lifelong resident of Montpelier, widow of Walter Wright Rice, went to be with her Lord on December 30, 2001. She is survived by her son, Earle O. Rice and his wife, Gayle; her daughter, Rebecca R. Hall and her husband, Jean; five grandchildren, Wanda Rice Robinson and her husband, Phil, Timothy E. Rice and his wife, June, Michelle H. Stanley and her husband, Charles, Jennifer J. Hall and Jessica L. Miniard, all of Montpelier. She also loved dearly, her four great-grandchildren, Zack and Kyle Rice, Ashley and Brooke Stanley; and her only surviving sister, Blanche Marie Terrell Murphy of Montpelier. To all the special angels who touched her life during her last days at Henrico Doctor's Parham, special love and appreciation from Nannie. She was a member of Chapel Church of Christ, Montpelier. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the West Hanover Vol. Rescue Squad or the Chapel Church of Christ Building Fund.

SAMUEL
Hallie M. Samuel Jr. of 3308 Fendall Ave. entered eternal rest. Cherishing his memory are five sisters, Jane Davis, Berneice Winston, Columbia Bridges, Bessie Jones and Clarissar Samuel; one brother John Samuel; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Davis and Marvin Bridges Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; one devoted, Lavern Robinson. A eulogistic service will be conducted Wednesday 11 a.m. at the All Faiths Chapel of the A.D. Price Funeral Establishment, 212 E. Leigh St., Pastor Larry C. Miles officiating. SHAW
Harry E. Shaw Sr., died December 29, 2001 at age 84. He was a former firefighter for Richmond. He is survived by three daughters, Joyce Hix, Dottie Rines and Linda Poe; one son, Harry E. Shaw Jr. He had 14 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; and two dear friends, Robert and Mary Giddens. A memorial service will be held at Banton Street Pentecostal Holiness Church, 4212 Banton St., Richmond, Va. at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2002.

SMITH
Departed this life December 29, 2001, Mr. Charles Elmo "Bubba-Do" Smith of 1212 North 27th St. He is survived by five sons, Corey, Tyrone, Larry, Tony and Howard; three daughters, Sandra, Bellevant and Gail; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth McQuinn and Patricia Haskins; three nieces, five nephews, four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St., where the family will receive friends Tuesday 5 to 6 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. Dr. E. Walter Anderson officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

Effie Powell Stovall, formerly of 2914 Parkwood Ave., entered eternal rest December 29, 2001. Cherishing her memory are four children, Dorris S. Backus of Baltimore, Md., Akhanaton Ali, formerly Rusoe Jr., Effie M. Stovall and Marvin Stovall; three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A eulogistic service will be conducted Wednesday 12:30 p.m. at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 913 N. 1st St. Rev. Kenneth Dennis, pastor, officiating, Pastor Harold Wilson, assisting. TISDALE
Mrs. Janice L. Tisdale of Richmond departed this life Saturday, December 29, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

TRICE
Philip Benjamin Trice Jr., age 85, died December 31, 2001 in Farmville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Price Trice, Farmville; one daughter, Carole T. Weatherford of Raleigh, N.C; one grandson, Bryan Weatherford of North Carolina. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville. Funeral services 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Farmville Presbyterian Church. Interment in the Cartersville Cemetery. military honors by the Crewe VFW Post No. 7819. Remembrances to the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Ellen Thorogood Tucker, formerly of 3309 N. Ave., departed this life December 30, 2001. She is survived by her relatives, Evelyn S. Fraser, Jacqueline F. Fraser, Carol F. Boone, Elizabeth T. Bebbs, Dahlia Tucker and devoted friend Claude L. Henderson. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2002, Rev. Brenda B. Summerset officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery.

WAKEFIELD
George "Whitey" Wakefield Jr., 77, of Richmond, Va., passed away December 29, 2001 at Johnston-Willis Hospital. He was born January 7, 1924 in Baltimore, Md., but spent a large portion of his life in various areas of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Frances Henrietta Wakefield. The beloved father of three children, he is survived by a son, George W. Wakefield of Midlothian; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dave Kostrubanic of Leesburg, Va. and a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kim Wakefield of Woodbridge, Va.; as well as a special son, Michael R. Hansen of Midlothian, Va.; adored grandfather of Karin Lynn and Michelle Dawn Perry of Leesburg, Va. and Holly Ann, Erin Elizabeth and Paige Marie Wakefield of Woodbridge, Va.; and a special granddaughter, Sharon Cone of Midlothian, Va. He is also survived by a sister, Florence Gottlieb of Baltimore, Md.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cap Schuh, Bertha Warfield, Bud and Ann Bailey, Bob and Geraldine Hammer, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as close friends of the family, the Kents of Rowley, Mass., and the Schools of Midlothian, Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Friday at the Providence United Methodist Church, 901 South Providence Rd., Richmond, Va. Following the funeral, a committal service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions in George's memory, may be made to the Providence United Methodist Church, 901 South Providence Rd., Richmond, Va. 23236.

WALL
Doris Pearce Wall died peacefully Saturday, December 29, 2001 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western Albemarle Rescue Squad.

WALLACE
Ellis Gene Wallace, 62, of Ruffin, N.C., formerly of Solgohachia, Ark. and Richmond, Va., died on Monday, December 31, 2001 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. Mr. Wallace was born in Baton Rouge, La., a son of the late Emmett Eugene Wallace and Alyce Robbs Wallace. He was a salesman with Atlantic Dry Ice and a member of Lively Stones Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Leslye Wallace Delehanty and husband, John of Ruffin; son, John Wallace of the home; grandchildren, Ryan, Shayne and Corey Delehanty; sisters, Lou Dent of Virginia and Lynn Ross of Texas; brother, Kay Wallace of Arkansas; nieces, Brandi Dent and Jennifer Chen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2002 at Lively Stones Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Reidsville, N.C. Other times the family will be at the residence, 151 Stephens Road, Ruffin, N.C.

WHITE
Roberta Briggs White, age 77, died December 30, 2001. She is survived by her husband, George Washington White of Emporia; one daughter, Donna W. Massey and husband, William of Colonial Heights; four sons, Ronald White and wife, Frances of Wake Forest, N.C., Randy White and wife, Janet, Danny White and Donnie White and Sara, all of Emporia; three sisters, Virginia Bradsher, Joyce Weathers and Edna Henley, all of Henderson, N.C.; two brothers, Fred Briggs of Youngsville, N.C. and Clarence Briggs of Wake Forest, N.C.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 3, at the Echols Funeral Home Chapel, Emporia. Interment to follow in the Gardens of Emporia. Family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

WILLIAMS
Diane L. Williams departed this life December 23, 2001. Remains may be viewed at Chiles Funeral Home Wednesday 11 a.m. followed by graveside services 12 noon. She leaves a loving family to mourn.

WINSTON
Evelyn LaFoon "Diddy" Winston, 87, of Ashland, widow of Harold I. LaFoon and J. Massie Winston, died December 30, 2001. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kathleen M. LaFoon. She is survived by her daughter, Marie L. Cassell and her husband, Frank; two sons, Louis I. LaFoon and his wife, Peggy and J. Murrell LaFoon and his wife, Jackie; two brothers, Joe Long and his wife, Margie and Leonard Delarue; a sister, Nancy Delarue; two stepsons, John M. Winston Jr. and W. Carey Winston; a stepdaughter, Mary Margaret McDearmon; seven grandchildren, Pamela L. Bartholomew, Dreama L. Cullipher, Alison L. Lewis, Charlotte L. Strom, Andrew, Patrick and Virginia Susan Winston; three great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, Dick Whitlock. Mrs. Winston was a member of Ashland Christian Church. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashland Chistian Church Building Fund, 301 S. James St., Ashland, Va. 23005, or the Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226.
