RITCHIE
Lenora Price Ritchie, 72, of Dinwiddie County, died Thursday, January 3, 2002 after a brief illness. She was born in the mission field in Korea to the late Rev. Roy H. Price and Bertha S. Price. She graduated from Greensboro College and taught elementary school in Highland Springs prior to her marriage. She then raised her children and was a substitute teacher in the Dinwiddie County Schools. She taught Sunday School at Lebanon United Methodist Church for 35 years. She is survived by her husband, James H. Ritchie Sr.; son, James H. Ritchie Jr.; daughter, L. Elizabeth Ritchie, all of Dinwiddie; and grandson, James S. Ritchie and numerous devoted in-laws. Funeral services will be held Saturday (today) at 1:30 p.m. in the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morris & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary S. White, pastor of Lebanon United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Gene C. Tatum, pastor of Ocran United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lebanon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 156, Dinwiddie, Va. 23841 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216.

ROBERTSON
Marie Jett Robertson, 82, of Reedsville, widow of Ralph Manning Robertson, died January 2, 2002. Surviving are a sister, Ruby J. Hammack; brothers, Clarence Jett, Luther Jett, Phillip Jett, Albert Jett and Charles Jett; sister-in-law, Ilva B. Jett. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Reedville. Interment Roseland Cemetary, Reedville. Memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., P.O. Box 25418, Richmond, Va., 23260.

ROEDER
Franklin Bruce "Frank" Roeder, 66, of New Kent, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lorraine Dunkum Roeder; his daughter, Sharon Condrey and her husband, Howard Wade Condrey; his son, Franklin Bruce Roeder Jr.; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Paige Condrey; a sister, Isabell Bodtke and her husband, Roland; his mother-in-law, Doris Dunkum; a sister-in-law, Mildred Roeder; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from Reynolds Metals in 1981. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

ROWLAND
Catherine McIver Rowland of Midlothian, Va. died Thursday, January 3, 2002. She was the widow of Buford Rowland. She was a native of North Carolina and had lived in the Richmond area for 11 years. She was formerly an archivist at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and was also a children's librarian at St. Alban's and retired from the Sheridan School there. Mrs. Rowland graduated from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina and the University of Illinois Library School. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Bier of Reston, Va. and Catherine Scheller of Midlothian; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

SEATON
Our loved one, friend and father, Robert Hill Crump Seaton Jr., died on December 25, 2001 peacefully at his home on Martha's Vineyard surrounded by his family. He had recently been diagnosed with primary liver cancer and had fought hard to try to overcome that horrible disease. He was born in Charlottesville, Va. on March 21, 1947 and grew up in Richmond, Va. He summered on Martha's Vineyard at East Chop where he learned to swim and sail; water sports were always his favorite. He just this past summer incorporated his family business, Hill Seaton Company, Inc. and bought Island Water Sports. He and his wife, Alice, ran this boat rental business on Martha's Vineyard and had the best summer ever. Hill's two passions were his family and sailing. He had many good friends and it was heart-warming to see and hear from so many friends recently. Hill is survived by his wife, Alice Cashon; three children, Mary Leigh, Hillary and Robert Seaton III; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Seaton and Myles and Haleigh Jones; his mother, Shirley Strange Seaton; two aunts and cousins. His father, Robert H. C. Seaton Sr., predeceased him. The family requests any donations to be made in his honor to Hospice of Martha's Vineyard or to the American Cancer Society. There was a memorial, "A Salute to a Sailor," at his home on Martha's Vineyard and another memorial celebrating his life will be on Martha's Vineyard spring/summer 2002.

SHELBY
Lionel Theodore Shelby, 95, of Atlantic St., Hopewell, died Thursday, January 3, 2002 in John Randolph Medical Center. He was born in Lumberton, N.C. and was a resident of this area since 1920. Mr. Shelby was a veteran of WWII, a retired accounting clerk for Allied/Signal and a member of the Powers Memorial Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Richard Wearn and Elizabeth Robinson Shelby. Surviving are his wife, Columbia Lee Lewis Shelby of Hopewell and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jaunary 7, 2002, in Powers Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. James Rogers, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Appomattox Cemetery. The family requests no flowers. Arrangements being made by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home.

SINCLAIR
Our dear mother, Zora Wagner Sinclair, of Salem, Va., and formerly of Waynesboro, passed away Thursday evening, January 3, 2002, at Richfield Nursing Center in Salem after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Waynesboro, Va. on July 13, 1923 to Minnie and Ralph Wagner. Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Vernon Coleman and her second husband, Carter Sinclair. Also her brothers, Jack Wagner and Newton Wagner; and a sister, Louise Dunsmore Shumate. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Sinclair Castleberry of Waynesboro; and two sons, James Carter Sinclair of Boston and Richard Thomas Sinclair of Salem. Also one grandson, William B. Alwood V and his wife, Beth; and a great-grandson, William B. Alwood VI, all of Midlothian, Va. She is also survived by a son-in-law, William B. Alwood IV of Richmond. Surviving brothers and sisters are Mary Taylor of Illinois, Ruby Hubbard of Colonial Heights, Frank Wagner of Lyndhurst, Ralph Wagner, Dorothy Powell and Marie Duckhardt, all of Waynesboro. The family would like to thank Debbie O'Connor for the loving and devoted nursing care given our mother. Zora was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. She was employed for many years as a secretary at Mize Supply and worked as a secretary to Humes Franklin Sr. She was an active member of Alpha Chi Sorority; a member of the Women's Club of Waynesboro and served as president of the Waynesboro District Home for several years. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 7 at the funeral home. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Janaury 8 at the First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, by Rev. William G. Wilson. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be friends and members of her family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 310, Harrisonburg, Va. 22803. McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro will be handling arrangements.

Services for Edward M. Smiley Jr. will be held today at 1 p.m. from the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Family and friends kindly assemble at the funeral home 12:45 p.m.

TRAINHAM
Mary Corker Trainham, 85, widow of Carrington Joseph Trainham, of Beaverdam, died Thursday, January 3, 2002. She is survived by her son and wife, Stewart C. and Catherine Trainham; a daughter and husband, Mary Ann and Elmore Hall, all of Beaverdam; two grandsons and wives, Elmore Scott and Libbie Hall and Mark C. and Michelle Trainham; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Hall and Erika Hall Downey; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Trainham and Lydia Vehling Hall; and two sisters-in-law, Patsy L. Corker and Elizabeth H. Corker, both of Beaverdam. After 26 years of civil service, Mrs. Trainham retired on August 29, 1980 as Postmaster of Beaverdam Post Office. She was a member of Zion Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Remains rest at the Beaverdam Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Christian Church. Interment family cemetery at her home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zion Christian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 55, Beaverdam, Va. 23015 or West Hanover Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 276, Montpelier, Va. 23192.

VICK
Elizabeth Bateman Vick, 82, of Courtland, Va., died January 3, 2002. She was the widow of Richard Decatur Vick Jr. and was retired from the Department of Health, Tidewater District and Southampton County Health Department where she was Home Health Care Coordinator from 1966 until 1984. Survivors include two sons, James Dennis Vick of Wake Forest, N.C. and Thomas D. Vick and his wife, Karen of Raleigh, N.C.; and a sister, Ruth B. Hudgins and her husband, Donald of Winchester, Va. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert H., Elbert E. and Herbert H. Bateman. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, Va. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

WESSON
Mr. Wilson Turnbull Wesson, age 84, of Boykins, Va., died January 2, 2002. He worked for Home Telephone/Continental Co. for 40 years and served in the Navy during WWII. He was a Master Mason, served as president of the Optimist Club and was awarded the Silver Beaver presented by the Boy Scouts of the Old Dominion Area Council. He was the widower of Dorothy Slayton Wesson and is survived by his wife, Florence S. Wesson; a son, Scott Wesson of Franklin; two daughters, Elsie Rice of Emporia and Linda Boyer of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; three stepchildren, Jerry Smith, Retta Osteen and Alice Goad; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dot Walker of Lawrenceville and Pauline Slayton of Dolphin. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at James Square Baptist Church, Lawrenceville. Interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville.

WILLEY
Clarke R. Willey Jr., 76, of Richmond, died Friday, January 4, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jackie Willey; two daughters, Carolyn Willey of Raleigh, N.C. and Ann Cohen of Cary, N.C.; a son, Dan Willey of Morrisville, N.C.; one grandson; a sister, Anna Margaret Schmidt of Richmond; also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Willey was a retired commercial artist for Reynolds Metals with 30 years of service, a member of Parkland Lodge No. 638 F.&A.M. in Louisville, Ky. and a life member of Navy League of the U.S. The family will receive friends 1 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ships Welfare, c/o Richmond Council, Navy League, P.O. Box 11201, Richmond, Va. 23230.

WILLIAMS
Alan Dale Williams, 40, of Richmond, died January 3, 2002. He was preceded in death by his father, Guy E. Williams Jr. Survivors include his son, Kenneth Allen Williams; his mother, Grace D. Williams; one sister, Wanda Carino; two brothers, David G. Williams and Dean E. Williams; one nephew, Steven Carino; and one great-nephew, Nathan Carino. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and where services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

AKERS
James Wesley Akers III, age 21, of Water View, a commercial waterman, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Survived by his parents, Gail V. and James W. Akers Jr. of Water View; a sister, Kristina Gail Akers of Tappahannock; and a brother, Thomas E. Akers of Water View. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Interment Lower United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hartfield. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

ALLEY
Annie J. Alley, 92, of Dunedin, Fla., died on September 1, 2002. She is survived by her three sons, C. Douglas Alley and Bernard W. Alley, both of Richmond, Va. and Thomas K. Alley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends at Mease Manor in Dunedin, Fla. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park, Richmond, Va.
