Isabel W. Stephenson, 90, Danville

Isabel White Stephenson, 90, of Danville and formerly of Bedford, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 in Stratford Rehabilitation Center, Danville. She was born Oct. 14, 1913 in Bedford, a daughter of the late Richard Emmett White and Magnolia Wright White.

Isabel was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and a retiree of Dominion Bank.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allison Holden "Steve" Stephenson and a daughter, Margaret S. Rodes.

Isabel is survived by a daughter, Coral Lee Stephenson Allmond and her husband, Duane of Danville; a son-in-law, James Robert Rodes, Jr. and his wife, Laura of Bedford; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one nephew; two nieces; three great-nephews; one great-niece; five great great-nephews; two great great-nieces; and two cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bedford Historical Society, PO Box 602, Bedford, VA 24523.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004 in Oakwood cemetery with Rev. G. Thomas Mustard officiating.

Frederick E. Lieb, Jr., 20, Chicago, IL

Frederick Edgar Lieb, Jr., 20, of Chicago, IL, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004. He was born May 22, 1984 in Woodbridge, a son of Frederick Edgar Lieb, Sr. of Woodbridge and Tara Wilson Albrook of Lynchburg. Frederick was a student at Northwestern University in Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray Edward Wilson and Gael Panter Wilson; and an uncle, Ray E. Wilson, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a stepmother, Pamela Lieb of Woodbridge; a stepfather, Dereck Albrook of Florida; two sisters, Brittany Albrook of Lynchburg and Jessica Lynn Lieb of Woodbridge; a brother, Brady Schultheiss of Woodbridge; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Etsuko Lieb of Stafford; a grandmother, Harriett Albrook of Philadelphia; an aunt, Lisa Santilli of New Jersey; and numerous Panter and Wilson family members in Bedford and Lynchburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Lakeside Plaza Office Bldg B-2, 2550 Murrell Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501.

A funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 in the Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Burial followed in Virginia Memorial Park.

Lloyd S. Laughon, 38, Lynch Station

Lloyd Stuart Laughon, age 38, of Lynch Station, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 in the Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born July 8, 1966 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Lloyd O. Laughon and Miriam Walker Laughon.

He was a member of the Huddleston United Methodist Church.

He is survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Maria L. and Sam Bailey, Lynch Station; Sylvia L. and Mark Vancho, Earlysville; Gloria L. and Doug Harris, Fincastle; Patricia L. and Tommy Smith, Huddleston; seven nieces and nephews and two great nieces.

The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, c/o Harold Glass, 207 Sherwood Drive, Huddleston, VA 24104.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston, by the Rev. David Bayse and Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment followed in the Independence Church cemetery.

Lois C. Long, 87

Lois Caulfield Long, 87, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Armistead R. Long, Jr.

Born in Portsmouth, July 24, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Christine Amory Caulfield. She was former owner of Beacon Marina and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Christine A. Long of Durham, NC; a son, Armistead R. Long, III and wife, Elaine of Forest; a sister, Helen C. Hoffman of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Alice Lee Long of Lynchburg; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dennis S. Roberts, the Rev. James L. Armentrout and the Rev. Cathy Montgomery, with burial following in Spring Hill cemetery.

Marion H. McCall, 69, Bedford

Marion Elizabeth Hazzard McCall, 69, of Bedford, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004. Marion "Ma Bear" McCall gave her body to science and her soul to Jesus tending after a life of hardship. She had her last smoke and said goodbye to this life of certainty for Gods gracious hands.

Betty as she preferred to be called, will long be missed by her companion, James; who joins me in sorrow. How a spare bed could turn into flesh and bones time is the greatest fortune of all. Ones love is shown in time given the least fortunate have the greatest amount of time.

As far as I know, she loved a son, Alvin Powell of Lynchburg and a daughter, Doree Ann of the Crew, VA area and Elvis. Goodbye ma! Away we go one at a time.

William Garland Mayberry

William Garland Mayberry, 85, of 1325 Fort Manor Drive, died Saturday, August 10, 2002 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Thalia Harvey Mayberry for fifty-four years.

Born May 16, 1917 in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late Wilber and Lena Deaner Mayberry. He was a retired service manager with John P. Hughes Motor Company and a charter member of Moose Lodge #715. Mr. Mayberry attended Sandusky Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie Little and Dorothy Page and four brothers, Otha, Luther, Rufus, and Raymond.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mayberry is survived by two daughters, Judy M. Fiske and her husband, Eric of Richmond and Janet L. Mayberry and her husband, David Laughlin of Woodstock, Vermont; one son, Wayne Mayberry and his wife, Gail of Lynchburg; one brother, Malcolm Mayberry of Madison Heights and three grandchildren, Clark and Brice Fiske and John Wayne Mayberry.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Wood. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery, Appomattox County.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Ronald George Dyke

Ronald George Dyke, 60, of Madison Heights, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Janice Callinder Dyke.

Born in Washington, D.C., July 15, 1942, he was a son of the late Jessie Marcellus Dyke and Dorothy E. Procter Dyke. He was a retired technician from R.R. Donnelley Printing Company with 22 years of service and was the owner of X-Press Graphics Printing Co. and a member of Bolling Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Renee Bess and Gina Randolph (Robert) both of Maryland; three sons, Dwayne Dyke (Delia) of Washington, D.C., Bert Callinder (Tawanda) of Lynchburg and Rickey Callinder of Austin, TX; one sister, Ruth D. Liverpool (Earl) of Washington, D.C.; one brother in law, Merle Callinder of Lynchburg; two sisters in law, Drucilla Lee of Appomattox and Rosella Callinder of Lynchburg; three devoted cousins, Robert Withers of Lynchburg and Barbara T. Martin and Louis O. Thurman (Gloria) both of Waynesboro; one devoted nephew, Billy Barksdale, Jr.; ten grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from Bolling Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Monelison Rescue Squad or Bolling Hill Baptist Church.

Edward Lee Payne Jr.

Edward Lee Payne Jr., 51, of Amherst, passed away Aug. 31, 2003.

Bom May 13, 1952, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Ruby Tanksley Payne and the late Edward L. Payne. He was a graduate of Danville Community College and Lynchburg College. He was retired from BWX Technologies, Mt. Athos. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the Men's Chorus. He also was active in the community as a former member of Amherst.

Jaycces and having coached t-ball, basketball and soccer for many years. He was a certified soccer referee with the United States Soccer Federation and involved with Boys Scouts of America as Advancement Chairman for Troop #43 of Amherst. He was an avid golfer having scored a hole-in-one at Winton Country Club's 16th hole with an 8 iron.

His wife, Gail Dalton Payne and two sons, Edward Lee Payne HI and Matthew Hunter Payne of Amherst; his mother, Mrs. Ruby Tanksley Payne and sister, Pattie P. Meade and husband, Vern of Sumter, S.C., survive him. Other family members: father-in-law, Russell E. Dalton and wife, Barbara of Hurt; three sisters-in-law. Connie D. Irby and husband, Mike of Hurt, Callie D. Jacobs and husband. Tony of Moneta, Iva W. Scott and husband, Rich of Lynchburg; brother-in-law. Hunter R. Dalton of Monroe, N, C.; nephews, Jamie W. Gowdy of Sumter, S.C., Jason R. Dalton of Charlottesville, Grayson Jacobs of Moneta; nieces, Lauren and Allison Irby of Hurt and Gina B, Moore of Weyers Cave. Many special friends at Cedarridge, 2nd floor: Tracey and Mike Garrett of Amherst, J. Thompson and Debbie Shrader of Amherst, Tony and Frances Parsons of Amherst, Dewey Rowland of Lynchburg.

The family suggests memorials be made to Amherst Life Saving Crew, P 0 Box 193, Amherst, VA or BSA Troop #43, c/o Gene Onestingle, 265 Cedarhill Drive, Amherst, VA.

A funeral service will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2nd, from the Emmanuel Methodist Church in Amherst with me Rev. Adam White officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends tonight at Whitten Monelison Chapel from 6-8 p.m.

Helen M. Gagesteyn

Helen M. Gagesteyn, 89, formerly Helen M. White of Jersey City, NJ, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at her home in Lynchburg, VA. She was the wife of Adrian Gagesteyn.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Presbyterian cemetery in Lynchburg.

The family will receive friends from 7- 8:30 p.m. Monday at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.

Jacquelin Williams Crawley

Jacquelin Williams Crawley, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Marshall Lee Crawley who passed away on April 9, 2001.

Born April 21, 1923 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Early Williams and the late Mae Burford Williams. Mrs. Crawley was a graduate of Brookville High School, a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and had retired from C & P Telephone Co. after 40 yrs. of employment.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son Marshall Lee Crawley, Jr.; and by two sisters, Shirley Colbert and Josephine Williams.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph E. Crawley and wife Bonnie of Lynchburg and Wayne Burford Crawley of Reston; a daughter, Jackie C. Pierce and husband George N. of Saluda; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by Dr. Jerry Falwell.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., today, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Memorial donations may be directed to American Legion Post 16, 1301 Greenview Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Carroll Ronald Kirby

Carroll Ronald Kirby, 64, of Lynchburg, went to be with Jesus on Friday, March 17, 2006 at UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mamie Painter Childress Kirby.

Born Aug. 21, 1941 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Matthew Larkin Kirby and the late Ida Jones Kirby. Mr. Kirby was employed at Burruss Lumber Co. for over 30 years and was a member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John L. Painter, Sr.; and by a sister-in-law, Eleanor Painter.

He is survived by three children, Robert L. Childress and Terri Yeatts of Rustburg, Matthew W. Kirby and wife Sheila of Lynchburg and Angela D. Kirby and Orlando Spradlin of Concord; seven grandchildren, Christina Lynn Childress, Samantha Dawn Spradlin, Owen Ray Spradlin, Luke Ray Spradlin, Carleigh Monae Kirby, Brook Lynn Pribble and Deanna Silby; his mother-in-law, Mildred Painter of Lynchburg; and two brothers-in-law, John L. Painter, Jr. of Rustburg and Charles L. Painer and wife Sue of Norfolk. He leaves behind many dear friends including, Kenneth Fleshman, Jesse Cunningham, Wayne Adie, Brian Adie, Earl Layne, Lewis Saunders, Kenneth Thompson, J. B. Reynolds, Frank Conte, Ronnie Viar, Terry Gravely, Fred Burton, Bert Blevins, A. D. Carson, Dennis Carter, Bobby Dodson, Wayne Rosser, Jesse Ashby, Wayne Rosser, Younger Enoch and Charlie Gordon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor J. Mike Dodson and Pastor Mack Almond, Jr. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

Family visitation will be on Tuesday from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 1524 Wythe Rd., Lynchburg.

The family requests that any memorial contributions please be directed to the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Teresa Patricia Farrell O'Malley

Teresa Patricia Farrell O'Malley, 86, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, November 2, 2006 peacefully at her residence. She was the beloved wife of James Joseph O'Malley fifty four years.

Born February 25, 1920 in New York, NY, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Farrell and the late Mary Kelly Farrell.

In addition to her husband James, she is survived by two daughters; Maureen O'Malley of Lynchburg and Eileen Brown and husband Brian of Arizona, a sister; Rita Farrell of Lynchburg, five grandchildren; Thomas J. O'Malley, Sean M. Steiper, James J. Krauss, Kevin Krauss, and William Krauss, and a great granddaughter; Emma Kuenn.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2006 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jim Dorson officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Virginia Veterans cemetery, Amelia, VA.

Visitation for family and friends will be today from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.
