Laura Lenna Brown Herion

Laura Lenna Brown Herion, 84, of 113 Winesap Road, Madison Heights, died Monday, November 22, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert P. Herion for fifty-seven years.

Born May 23, 1920 in Salisbury, NC, she was the daughter of the late Vonnie E. and Ada Frances Efird Brown. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper with Amherst County High School, a former member of the Eastern Star, and the Amherst Secretarial Assoc., where she had served as secretary. Mrs. Herion was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Herion is survived by three daughters, Sue H. Pechmann and her husband, David, Michelle “Mickie” H. Brine and her husband, George, and Vonnie H. Rucker and her husband, Harry, all of Madison Heights; three brothers, Ralph Brown, of Lexington, KY, Preston Brown of Winston-Salem, NC, and Howard Brown of Hickory, NC; one sister, Denice Ingold of Rockwell, NC; seven grandchildren, Toni Fulk, Michelle “Shelly” East, Stacy Bartley, Cory Brine, Matthew Brine, Abbie Radcliffe, and Mandy Rucker; nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandsons.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Northminster Presbyterian Church by Dr. L. Wayne Meredith. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Friday at Polly’s home and from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Marshall Neil Baldwin

Marshall Neil Baldwin, 74, of 183 Nottingham Place, Madison Heights, passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 at his residence. He was the husband of Ann Drumheller Baldwin.

Born August 24, 1930 in Madison Heights, Neil was a son of the late Elmo Oscar and Florence Ray "Dolly" Baldwin. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degrees from Lynchburg College and his Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University in 1957. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox after thirty-two years of service as a physicist, during which he helped design the shielding for the nuclear ship Savannah and made many seminal contributions to power reactor design and operations. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition, Neil loved music and was an organist for several churches in the area including, Court Street United Methodist, Memorial Methodist, and the Madison Heights Baptist Church, of which he was a member. He also served as a soloist for many organizations including Lynchburg College Touring Choir and the Fine Arts Center.

A sister, Dorothy B. Woodson, preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife, Neil is survived by one daughter, Theta Lynn B. Miller and her husband, Amma "Troi" of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Kyle R. Baldwin of Madison Heights, his "favorite mother-in-law", Myrtle "Dub" Drumheller, and two grandchildren, Robert and Alexandra Miller.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

The family is very grateful to the Hospice of the Hills for their care and assistance given to Mr. Baldwin.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Hospice of the Hills or the Madison Heights Baptist Church.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Monelison Chapel is assisting the family with services.

Shirley Osborne Jamerson

Shirley Osborne Jamerson, 71, of 84 Training Center Road died Friday, June 7, 2002 in Guggenheimer Nursing Home.

Shirley was born March 8, 1931 in Lynchburg, the daughter of the late Hampton C. Osborne and Minnie Crank Osborne. She retired from General Electric and was a member of Tree Of Life.

She was preceded in death by a son, Holcomb M. Jamerson, Jr.

She is survived by one son, Rodney O. Jamerson and wife, Patricia of Forest; three daughters, Donna J. Garbee and husband, Michael and Susan J. Smith and husband, Jimmy of Lynchburg and Andrea J. Davis and husband, Ken of Gladys; one sister, Phyllis O. Roberts of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor Mike Dodson. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Tree of Life Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Alfred Meade Little

Alfred Meade Little, 82, of Evington, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Edna Witt Little for fifty-eight years.

Born September 1, 1922 in Evington, he was the son of the late Alfred T. and Laura L. Little. He was retired from Rubatex, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Otterwood Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Clay Little, Owen Little, Wayne Little, Woodrow Little, Eugene Little, and Herman Little and three sisters, Evelyn Little, Louise Hefferan, and Joyce Little.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Little is survived by one son, Andrew Kenneth Little; three daughters, Patricia Myers and her husband, Edward and Laura Throckmorton and her husband, Steve, all of Evington and Barbara Jennings and her husband, John of Missoula, MT; two brothers, Garland Little and his wife, Thelma of Evington and Tony Little and his wife, Frances of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Tami Powell and her husband, David, Sara Throckmorton and Carrie Throckmorton and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Powell.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park, Forest.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Rachel Musgrove Driskill

Rachel Musgrove Driskill, 92, of 1405 Greenview Drive, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 in the Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Loyd Daniel Driskill.

Born October 15, 1912 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John Woolridge and Minnie Updike Musgrove. Mrs. Driskill retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corp. after forty-five years of service. She was a former member of the Joe Lynch Sunbeam class at the former First United Methodist Church on Court Street and a present member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Driskill was also a member of Rebekah Lodge #41.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Driskill is survived by one daughter, Barbara D. Blunt and her husband, Jimmy of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Susan Blunt of Miami, FL, Robbie B. Arthur and her husband, Derrick of Evington, Kay B. Collie and her husband, Tim of Forest; Dana B. Andrews and her husband, Patrick of Evington, and Janice B. Tweedy and her husband, Romain of Germantown, MD and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. today, December 27, 2004 at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. David Wade. The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m. and other times at the residence.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center.

James Ira Loyd

James Ira Loyd, 84, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2005 in the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 39 yrs., Mary Smith Loyd.

Born May 5, 1920 in Roanoke, he was the son of the late Frank Thomas Loyd and the late Mary Belle Evans Loyd. Mr. Loyd served honorably with the US Army during WWII and was the recipient of two bronze stars and a purple heart. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: four sons: Jimmie Lee Rucker and wife Ruby of Blytheville Ark., Edward Reed Loyd and wife Evelyn, James Ira Loyd, Jr. and wife Angela and John Thomas Loyd and wife Kimberly all of Madison Heights; one brother, William T. Loyd of Hampton; two sisters: Martha L. Clark of Newport News and Mary Elizabeth Faulk and husband Barney of Hampton; as well as many grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. James Long. Interment, with full military honors, will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday at Culpeper National cemetery.

Family visitation will be Friday from 7 – 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Norman Otis Johns

Norman Otis Johns, 62, of 279 Main Street, Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005 in Lynchburg General Hospital after a long battle with heart problems. He was the husband of Meredith Johns.

Born August 15, 1942 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Frank and Rosa Hamilton Johns. He was a former employee of Lynchburg Ready Mix until medical problems caused him to stop work. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Mr. Johns attended New Beginning Tabernacle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Timothy Wayne and Teresa Ann.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Johns is survived by one son, David Johns and his wife, Dawn of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Robert Johns and his wife, Grace of Madison Heights; three grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, and Jasmine; a host of nieces and nephews and his close friends at J&J Automotive, Evelyn Freeman of Madison Heights; Ronnie Powell of Powell’s Tire Service and Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Peters of Madison Heights.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Cynthia Branham. Interment will follow in St. Paul's cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7- 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monelison Rescue Squad or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

E. Ellen Hollon

E. Ellen Hollon, 77, of Rustburg, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2006. She was the wife of the late Charles William Hollon.

Born Oct. 25, 1928, in Frankfurt, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hermann Ruppert and Marie Kufner Ruppert.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilhelm Ruppert and his wife, Louisa.

Survivors include four children, Gary Lee Oliphant and wife, Hanni, of Pauldon, Ariz., Sharon Marie Olson and husband, James, of Montross, David M. Hollon of Lynchburg, and Deborah L. Hollon and significant other, Chris Horn, and his children, Ryan and Blake, all of Rustburg; two brothers, Dieter Ruppert and wife, Lori, and Rudi Ruppert, all of Frankfurt, Germany; five grandchildren, Cornelia Oliphant of Sacramento, Calif., Adrian Oliphant of Anaheim, Calif., Ashley Nicole Hollon, Anthony David Hollon and Matthew Charles Hollon, all of Lynchburg; two great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, by Pastor Dennis Roberts.

Betty Craft Holbrook

Betty Craft Holbrook of Lynchburg died Monday, June 3, 2002 in Autumn Care in Altavista. She was the wife of the late Henry Alvin Holbrook.

Born in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Craft and Eleanor Hall Craft. She retired from Garland Manufacturing and was a member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, H. Wayne Holbrook and wife, Susan of Haymarket and three grandchildren, Symantha Lynn Holbrook, Henry Conrad Holbrook and Hunter Ryan Holbrook.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Jack Brooks.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.

Ada Davis Gough

Ada Davis Gough, 85, of Rustburg, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Medical Care Center in Lynchburg. Ada was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. For 64 years, she was the wife of Edwin Brown Gough, Sr.

Born May 5, 1917 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee Davis and the late Minnie Hutcherson Davis. Mrs. Gough was a member of the Rustburg United Methodist Church and for 50 years a member of the Rustburg Eastern Star, Chapter 23.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gough was preceded in death by her brother; Albert Davis.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two sons; Edwin B. Gough, Jr. of Charlottesville and Carlton L. Gough, Sr. and wife Susan of Rustburg, seven grandchildren; Page Elizabeth Gough of Charlottesville, Edwin B. “Tripp” Gough, III, of Crozet, Mark O. Gough and wife Eve of Richmond, Carlton L. Gough, Jr. and wife Sabrina of Lynchburg, Bryan D. T. Gough of Lynchburg, Chad O. Gough and wife Amy of NY and Michelle H. Gough of Manassas and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services, with an Eastern Star Service, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend Steven Bird. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Friends and family may visit Thursday from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of her son Carlton, 505 Gough Rd., Rustburg.

Christian Blake Clark

Christian Blake Clark, two month old infant son of Robert Wayne Clark and Brandy Kay Wright, died Friday, July 25, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital.

Christian was born May 28, 2003 in Lynchburg and in addition to his parents, is survived by two sisters, Angela Marie Crossland and Shania Lynn Clark; one brother, Jacob Michael Painter; his grand-parents, Elmer “Buster” and Carol Staton, Martha Louise Wright, and Roger Lee and Patricia Clark, all of Lynchburg; great-grandparents, Elizabeth Elder, also of Lynchburg, Eddie and Lorene Staton of Monroe and Beatrice Ragland of Lovingston and a host of special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Christian was preceded in death by an aunt, Leslie Darlene Staton Beatles and an uncle, Kenneth “Shorty” Wright.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Stuart Mitchell. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7- 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
