Mildred Mann Hubbard

Mildred Mann Hubbard of Westminster Canterbury, formerly of Orange, passed away Monday, April 29, 2002 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late George Thompson Hubbard, Jr.

Born in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Susie Ponton Mann. Mrs. Hubbard was retired from the Orange County School System and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Orange.

Mrs. Hubbard is survived by two daughters, Linda Caperton and her husband, John of Richmond and Sharon Kirstein and her husband, Sid of Lynchburg; two brothers, Harry Mann, Jr. and his wife, Mamie of Roseland and Kyle Mann and his wife, Cora Jaqueline of Waynesboro; two sisters, Audree Dodd of Lynchburg and Hilda Martin of Waynesboro and four grandchildren, Joseph Caperton, Kellie Kirstein Grogg and her husband, Jeremy, Kimberly Kirstein and Kara Kirstein.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002 from Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Forest Porter and the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.

Dorothy Stenson Goding

Dorothy Stenson Goding, 81, of Lynchburg, died Friday, January 24, 2003 in the Lynchburg Health & Rehab Center.

She was the wife of the late Lewis Maurice Goding. Born December 30, 1921 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Flossie Almond Stenson. Mrs. Goding was a retired sales clerk with Leggett Department Store and a member of Fairview Christian Church. She was also a long time member of the Fairview Rebekah Lodge #52.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Keith Alan Nowlin. Mrs. Goding is survived by two children, Jean Goding Nowlin and her husband, Tom Goding of Lynchburg; one sister, Florence S. Epperson of Houston, TX; a sister-in-law, Louise Goding of Lynchburg; grandsons, Kevin Edward Nowlin of Houston, TX, Tracey Lee Goding of Louisiana; great grandchildren, Tiffany and Corey Goding of California, Randy Powers of Lynchburg, Amanda, Amber, and Brandon Goding of Norfolk, and Megan Nowlin of Houston, TX and local nieces and nephew, Sylvia White, Judy Goding and John Goding, Jr. and a devoted cousin, Mae Foster and her husband. Warren of Lynchburg. Also, in attendance will be her niece, Bootsy Colburn of Arizona. In addition, Mrs. Goding is also survived by many other special relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Fairview Christian Church with the Rev. Clyde E. Dalton, officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of her sister-in- law, Louise, 2300 Sackett Street.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Caring Fund or Food Closet of Fairview Christian Church, 2701 Campbell Ave., Lynchburg, 24501 or Rebekah Lodge #52.

Robert Franklin Simmons, Sr.

Robert Franklin Simmons, Sr., 77, of 575 Monroe, died Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Christine Goodwin Simmons.

Born August 14, 1925 in Minden, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James Caperton and Mattie Hubbard Simmons. He was retired from the Lynchburg Foundry Co. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Amherst V.F.W. and was of the Holiness faith.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary S. Smith and Ruth S. Callahan and two grandchildren, Jackie Simmons and Walter Simmons, Jr.

Mr. Simmons is survived by four sons, Robert F. Simmons, Jr. and his wife, Doris of Sharon, SC, Walter C. Simmons and his wife, Cindy of Lynchburg, Michael S. Simmons and his wife, Cathy of Fort Sill, OK, James A. Simmons and his wife, Becky of Ohio; three daughters, Sheila S. Dowdy and her husband, Donald of Richmond, Kathy S. Tomlinson and her husband, Preston of Evington, and Patricia S. Tomlin and her husband, Harry of Amherst.

He is also survived by one brother, Charles Simmons of Covington; two sisters, Betty S. Rapp of Lynchburg and Barbara S. Reynolds of Altavista; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Glynn Coleman. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post #16 will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst.

Family visitation, Sunday, June 29, 2003 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, Patricia, 575 Izaak Walton Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Amherst County Humane Society.

The family wished to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of South Hall of Avante' Nursing Home for their loving care to our Dad, "Simmy".

Pamela Sue “Pam” Tyree Fitzgerald

Pamela Sue “Pam” Tyree Fitzgerald, 45, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday October 24, 2003 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Born July 11, 1958 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of Elmo and Nancy Parker Tyree, of Lynchburg. Pam was formerly employed by the Lynchburg City School System, and a member of the First Assembly of God.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children, Bryan Edward Ottinger, and Crystal Anne Fitzgerald Moss and her husband Bryan of Lynchburg; two sisters, Jessica Glass and her husband Jon and Sharon Campbell of Lynchburg; a brother, Michael Tyree and his wife Scottie of Concord; her maternal grandmother, Clara Parker of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Austin Bryan Fitzgerald, Morgan Elizabeth Moss and Jacob Robert Allen Moss; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday October 27, 2003 at First Assembly of God on Fort Ave., with Pastor Rodney Mason and Elder James Garner officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her parents home, 581 Leesville Road.

Mildred Sue “Mikki” Preston

Mildred Sue “Mikki” Preston, 70, of Forest, died Tuesday May 18, 2004 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of Paul S. Preston.

Born April 30, 1934 in Greenville, SC., she was a daughter of the late Tommy and Annie Campbell Hollingsworth.

In addition to her husband Paul, she is survived by her son, Steve Preston and her daughter, Stacy A. Preston of Forest.

Services were held Thursday May 20, 2004, at Virginia Memorial Park, by Pastor David Johnston.

Russell Lewis Hudson

Russell Lewis Hudson, 51, of Madison Heights, passed away, Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Rosemary Tucker Hudson.

Born February 11, 1953 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Lewis Julian and Elizabeth Ann Magann Hudson Bagby. He was a Water Operator with the City of Lynchburg with twenty-three years of service.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hudson is survived by five children, Stacy H. McCoy and her husband, Mark, and Michael Hudson, both of Springfield, TN, Angel M. Love of Beckley, West Virginia, Jamie D. Love and her fiancé, Clifton Mays of Madison Heights and Vernon Love of Halifax; two brothers, Luke J. Hudson and his girlfriend, Tracy Farthing and James G. Hudson, both of Madison Heights; one sister, Rebecca H. Ashworth of Monroe and eight grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Carlton Duck and Reverend Allan Monfils assisting. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7- 9:00 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Jamie Love.

Frances Bowman Painter

Frances Bowman Painter, 75, of Lynchburg, went home to be with her Lord, Friday December 3, 2004. She was the beloved wife of the Rev. Elmer Cleveland Painter.

Born July 25, 1929 in Winston Salem, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Carl Erastus Bowman and the late Marjorie Reeves Bowman; in addition a son, Lawrence Carl Painter, a granddaughter, Amy Caroline Parker and a sister, Daphne B. Styers preceded her in death.

Mrs. Painter was a teacher with Westminster Christian School of Miami, FL. before her retirement, and a devoted member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Dr. Karen Painter Parker and her husband Dr. Leonard Parker, of Lynchburg, the Rev. Richard L. Painter and his wife Donna Painter of Jacksonville, FL., Rebecca Painter Beasley and her husband the Rev. Coba Beasley of Marianna, FL., Leslie Painter Evans and her husband Jordan Evans of Florence, SC., and John Mark Painter and his wife Fleming Painter of Nashville, TN.; two sisters, Wanda Bowman Phillips of Vero Beach, FL., and Wynona Bowman McRae of Greensboro, NC.; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday December 8, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Elmer C. Painter officiating. Burial will follow in Presbyterian cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the home of a daughter, 1425 Greenview Drive, Lynchburg.

Jessie Mae Farrar Phelps

Jessie Mae Farrar Phelps, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Medical Care Center, Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Emmett Hall Phelps who passed away in 1964.

Mrs. Phelps was born February 26, 1913 in Appomattox County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Gus D. Farrar and Bertha Almond Farrar. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She deeply loved her family and her church.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her two sons; David (Jean) Phelps of Brookneal, Carl (Faye) Phelps of Rustburg, four daughters; Charlotte (Charlie) Rowsey of Altavista, Frances (Charles) Crowell of Lynchburg, Linda (J.D.) Wilkes of Lynchburg and Sarah Heath of Cartersville, GA. Two brothers; Burnell and George Farrar, and three sisters; Mildred Windsor, Madeline Cash and Josephine Thompson. In addition to her children, she was a loving grandmother to many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

She was pre-deceaced by six sons; Preston, Eugene, John, James, Robert and Clifford Phelps, and by two daughters; Edith McGann and Margaret Andrew.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday from Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Timothy Lee Creasy

Timothy Lee Creasy, 39, of 289 Thomas Road, Madison Heights, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Lynchburg, March 5, 1964, he was a son of George Eldridge Creasy, Jr. of Madison Heights and the late Glenda Deel Creasy.

In addition to his father, he is survived by two daughters, Aimee N. Creasy and Jessica Leigh Creasy both of Madison Heights; one brother, George Creasy, III and his wife Jenny of Garner, NC and one sister, Diane Mehaffey and her fiancé Greg Bryant of Madison Heights.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions should consider the Elon Baptist Church Building Fund or the Monelison Rescue Squad.

Olive Banner Renzi

Olive Banner Renzi, 72, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Luke Renzi, Jr., who passed away August 19, 2000.

Born September 22, 1931 in Steveston, British Columbia, she was the daughter of the late William Eward Banner and the late Helen Harriet Bailey Banner.

She is survived by a son, Luke Richard Renzi and wife Melba of Concord; three daughters, Janine Larson of Madison Heights, Debbie Young and husband Terry of Bellvue, WA and Gail Dalaimo and husband Mike of Las Vegas, NV; ten grandchildren, Dean Larson, II, Luke R. Renzi, II, April D. Renzi, Jenna Young, Katie Young, Jeren Young, Nicholas Dalaimo, Anthony Dalaimo, Andrew Dalaimo and Matthew Dalaimo; five great grandchildren, Christa Renzi, Micha Kaden Renzi, Christian Young, Emma Young and Izaya Larson; three sisters, Marie Workman, Vi Shannon and Irene Pearson; a sister-in-law, Vera Banner.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 133 Alex Court, Madison Heights by Pastor Norman Ryan.

Della Mae Witt Walsh

Della Mae Witt Walsh, 72, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Charles Walsh.

Born February 6, 1932 in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late John Daniel Witt, Sr., and the late Ruth Effie Foster Witt. For many years, She and her husband were proprietors of Walsh’s Upholstery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Walsh; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Barricks; and by 13 brothers and sisters.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven children: James Thomas Barricks and wife Beverly of Lynchburg, Judy Creasey and husband Tony of Hudleston, David Joshua Barricks and Brenda Bryant and husband Michael both of Lynchburg, Jerry Wayne Barricks and wife Debbie of Georgia, and Don Walsh and wife Hillary and Renee Walsh both of Lynchburg; thirteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and a brother Clarence Witt.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery by Rev. Carlton Dunn.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., today, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and at other times at the family home.

Houston Samuel Harbin

Houston Samuel Harbin passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital after a short illness.

Born in North Carolina, June 27, 1913, he is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Lavonia. His first wife, Carrie, passed after thirty-three years of marriage.

He has two sons, Ronald and his wife, Sandra, Raymond and his wife, Janet; a step-son, Danny Fore; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Houston was a retiree (33years) of the Mead Corp. and a member of Fairview Christian Church.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and other times at the home of Raymond, 1414 Tunbridge Road.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton.
