Leota Dodson Bowman

Leota Dodson Bowman, 78, of Fredericksburg, passed away, Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Runk and Pratt Nursing Home in Campbell County.

Born June 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Dodson. Mrs. Bowman worked as a lab technician for Southern Railways for over 15 years and was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Alexandria.

Mrs. Bowman is survived by her husband of 54 years, Mr. Clayton L. Bowman, Jr.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Clifford, by the Reverend Gene Moritz. Whitten Monelison Chapel is assisting the family. A private service to inter the ashes will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Olinger, 148 Main St. in Amherst.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to St. Marks Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.

Robert William Witt

Robert William Witt, 92, of the Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, October 14, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Virginia Harrison Witt.

Born January 12, 1912 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Henry Lee and Ella Skinner Witt. He was retired from T.B. Dornin & Adams Roofing Co. and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Witt was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Clarence, Henry, Allen, and James and two sisters, Cornelia and Mary. At the time of Mr. Witt's passing, he was the eldest and last of his immediate family's generation.

Mr. Witt is survived by one daughter, Cathy Lou Witt of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren; four nieces, including two devoted nieces, Alice Arrington and Joanne and four nephews.

A graveside service with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Friends may visit at the home of Mr. Witt’s niece, Alice, 1043 Oakmont Circle, Apt. B.

Louise Brooks Ewing

Louise Brooks Ewing, 80, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Medical Care Center.

Born September 23, 1924 in Campbell Co., she was the daughter of the late William Sullivan Brooks and the late Bessie Taylor Books.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ewing was preceded in death by two sisters: Ramona and Inez.

She is survived by two daughters: Clover Tuck Noel and husband Raymond of Goode and Claudia Tuck Kamel and husband Bob of Roanoke; two brothers: Charles Edward Brooks and James Elwood Brooks; and a sister, Bobbie Brooks Miller.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Friends and family may call today, from 3 – 7 p.m. at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Clover and Raymond Noel.

The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers at Medical Care Center and Gentle Shepard Hospice.

Margaret Campbell Cash

Margaret Campbell Cash, 91, of Monroe, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Maynard Louis Cash, Sr.

Born March 28, 1913 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Walker and Daisy Martin Campbell. Mrs. Cash was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Monroe Church of God.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Campbell, Thomas Campbell, and Tate Campbell; two sons-in-law, Emmett Wooldridge and Fletcher "Pat" Cash; an aunt, Mary Massie and a nephew, Thomas Campbell.

Mrs. Cash is survived by two sons, Maynard L. Cash, Jr. of Tucker, GA and the Rev. Roger D. Cash and his wife, Jane of Tampa, FL; two daughters, Mary C. Wooldridge of Monroe and Judy C. Cash of Amherst; a sister-in-law, Margaret Campbell of Monroe; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Monroe Church of God by Bishop Roy Newcomb, the Rev. Roger D. Cash, and the Rev. Susan Campbell. Interment will follow in the Old Centenary United Methodist Church cemetery in Naola.

Jimmy O'Harold Manley

Jimmy O'Harold Manley, 55, of Campbell County, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in Lynchburg.

Born Aug. 1, 1950 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Junior Manley and the late Betty Jane Millner Manley Mays. He had served in the US Marine Corp. during the Vietnam era, and was formerly employed at Barker Jennings Corp.

He is survived by: four half-brothers: Edward Mays of Lynchburg, Earl and wife Eleanor Mays of Evington, Roger Mays and wife Tammy of Lynchburg and Harold Manley of Lynchburg; step-father, Glenn Mays of Evington; one niece, Cassandra Mays; and one nephew, Joshua Mays.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. David Hill. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Altavista Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be today from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jack Eleck Lindsey

Jack Eleck Lindsey, 101, of Suffolk, died Monday, February 25, 2002 at Nansemond Pointe Health Care Center in Suffolk.

He was the husband of the late Erma Foster Lindsey.

Born in Charlotte County, Va. on September 11, 1900, he was the son of the late Samuel Lewis and Hester Hunter Lindsey. He retired as a forman for Lynchburg Hosiery Mill and was a member of Euclid Christian Church.

Mr. Lindsey is survived by a daughter, Shirley Lindsey Allsbrook and her husband, Jesse of Suffolk; one granddaughter, Cathy Allsbrook of Suffolk and one grandson, Lynn Allsbrook of Hampton, Va.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Edward Parrish III.

The family will receive friends Today from 7-8:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

Fred J. Wagner

Fred J. Wagner, 81, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, June 05, 2002 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. Twice married , he was the husband of the late Dorothy Yacovelli Wagner and is survived by his wife Elma Matthews Wagner.

Born in Yonkers, NY, November 24, 1920, he was a son of the late Fred and Josephine Sprock Wagner. He was a retired contractor and a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where he was active with the 50-Plus Ministry.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James D. Wagner, Sr. of Lynchburg and Steven P. Wagner of Port Angeles, WA; two daughters, Dorothy L. Wagner of Lynchburg and Linda W. Griffin of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Harold Wagner and Roy Wagner both of NJ; one sister, Irene W. Pickard of Fla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of his son, 150 Kenwood Drive.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Oakwood cemetery in South Hill, Virginia with the Rev. Gil Brightsen officiating. A Memorial services celebrating Fred’s life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Falwell officiating.

Andrew Oliver Staton

Andrew Oliver Staton, 70, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, April 02, 2003 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville from injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was the husband of Katherine Tyree Staton and the son of the late Abner G. and Hattie Brown Staton. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Teresa Ann Staton of Lynchburg; four brothers, Edward Staton of Buena Vista, Jesse Staton of Lynchburg, Roy Staton and Page Staton, both of Monroe and five sisters, Mrs. Mattie Mays of Monroe, Mrs. Sadie Wilson of Bedford, Mrs. Ruby Johnson, Mrs. Maggie Tyree, and Mrs. Rose Wilson, all of Lynchburg.

Shirley Juanita Collins Bower

Shirley Juanita Collins Bower, 65, of Tye River Road, Amherst, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at her residence. She was the wife of Daniel R. Bower, Korean War Veteran.

Born in Sutton, W.VA, she was a daughter of the late Otis Collins and Alta Mae Keener Collins.

One Son, John Phillip Bower, one brother, Carl O. Collins and one sister, Jenith (Janet) Collins preceded her in death.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Daniel Lewis Bower of Locust Grove, James David Bower of Tye River and his fiancée Viola Marie Johnson and Stephen Ray Bower of Tye River; one daughter, Juanita Lynn Bower of Tye River; one brother, Charles Collins and three sisters, Norma Campbell, Rosalea Pierson and Carol Fakette all of Cleveland, OH; and three grand children, Jessica Lynn Bower, Amy Leigh Bower and Craig Phillip Bower.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow in the Woodland Baptist Church cemetery, Colleen.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joyce Lucas Richard

Joyce Lucas Richard, 68, of Lynchburg, died Saturday October 9, 2004 at her residence.

She was the beloved wife of Paul Francis Richard.

Born January 28, 1936, in Seattle, WA., she was a daughter of the late Robert James Lucas, and is survived by her mother, Ruby Osterholm Lucas Clevenger and step-father Gifford Clevenger of Auburn, WA.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Lucas.

Joyce is also survived by her children, Randy D. Tysinger and his wife Pearl of Lynchburg, Susan Y. Richards and her husband Kim of Caribou, ME. and Russell D. Tysinger and his wife Judy of Gardner, MA.; her step-children, Denise R. Tooley and her husband Todd of Ledyard, CT., David R. Richard and his wife Paula of Fitchburg, MA., and Daniel R. Richard, U.S. Army, Germany; a brother, Darryl Clevenger of Bonney Lake, WA., two sisters, Verla Miller of Bellingham, WA.and Bonnie Klein and her husband Fred of Auburn, WA., fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Lynchburg Church of God, 512 Breezewood Drive, by the Rev. Joseph Wilkins and the Rev. Tim Houston. Burial will follow in the Virginia Veterans cemetery, Amelia, VA. at 1:00 p.m.

Visitation for family and friends will be today 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lynchburg Church of God, 512 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Timberlake Chapel, 239-0331, is assisting the family with services.

Lula Belle Owens Lacy

Lula Belle Owens Lacy, 96, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Woodbine Nursing Home in Alexandria. She was the wife of the late Aubrey Smith Lacy.

Lula was born Sept. 10, 1908, in Manassas, the daughter of the late Robert B. Owens and the late Estelle McCuen.

She retired from Highs Ice Cream stores and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Alexandria.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Andrea Lynn Elliott.

She is survived by a son, George M. “Tommy” Lacy of Alexandria; a daughter, Sharon L. Elliott and her husband, Harvey Douglas “Rusty” Elliott Jr. of Lynchburg; and one grandson, Harvey Douglas “Doug” Elliott III of Burlington, N.C.

A graveside service will be held Friday in National Memorial Park in Fairfax County by Father Malm of Grace Episcopal Church.

The family suggest those wishing to make memorials contributions, please consider the American Red Cross or a charity of their choice.

Fay Horsley Hubbard

Fay Horsley Hubbard, 67, of Madison Heights went home to be with her Lord, Monday, February 25, 2002 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Hubbard.

Fay was born August 15, 1934 in Amherst County, the daughter of Amanda Napier Horsley and the late Ray Horsley. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by four daughters, Sharon H. Wrenn and husband, Ronald of Goode, Donna H. Hooks and husband, Jerry of Forest, Pamela H. Woods and husband, Jerry and JoAnne H. Crago and husband, Walt of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren, Matthew Wrenn, Daniel, Joshua and Sarah Hooks, Kari and Megan Hubbard, Amanda, Adam and Aaron Crago; one brother, David Ray Horsley of Madison Heights and one sister, Judith H. Hudson of Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Thomas Road Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Falwell and the Rev. Charlie Harbin. Interment will be in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Elim Home.
