Sandra Brooks Fielder

Sandra Brooks Fielder, 55, of Lone Jack Road, Rustburg died Monday, April 22, 2002 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of Frank Lee Fielder.

She was born June 19, 1946 in Lynchburg, the daughter of the late Emmett Clinton Brooks and Elizabeth Brooks Brooks. She retired from Doug's Lawn & Cleaning Service.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Emmett L. Fielder and his wife, Jennifer of Madison Heights; one daughter, Audrey Marie Fielder of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Heather L. Fielder and Brandy Carson; three brothers, Clinton Brooks of California, Douglas Brooks and K. Dale Brooks of Lynchburg and four sisters, Dolores B. Tucker and Dawn B. Frye and her husband, Rodney of Lynchburg, June B. Hall and her husband, Jay of Forest and Linda B. Powell and her husband, Wesley of Tyreeanna.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by the Rev. Ellis Caudill. Interment will be in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Shirley White Adams

Shirley White Adams, 70, of Madison Heights died Saturday, August 17, 2002 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of George E. Adams.

Shirley was born May 25, 1932 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Vivian N. White and Lillian Booker White. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, George Lee Adams and his wife, Roseanne, Richard L. Adams and his wife, Mary of Richmond and Terri L. Rouse and her husband, Gerald of Madison Heights; one brother, Richard L. White of NC; one sister, Betty White of California; eight grandchildren and one great grandson.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Presbyterian cemetery by Dr. Wayne Meredith.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Whitten Monelison Chapel is serving the Adams family.

Tamara Sue Sprouse

Tamara Sue Sprouse, 29, of Madison Heights, died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Tamara was born April 11, 1974 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Sue Worley Sprouse of Madison Heights and Larry G. Sprouse of Madison Heights. She graduated from Virginia Episcopal School and attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Tamara was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church and volunteered at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Rhonda Ellen Sprouse; her grandmother, Mrs. Elwood G. Sprouse; her aunts and uncles, Connie and Sam Cunningham, all of Madison Heights; Sharon and Tom Patterson of Lynchburg, Cheryl Sprouse, of Forest and Garrett and Fran Sprouse of Johnson City, Tenn.; four cousins, Shannon, Neil, Stephanie, and Jennifer and her fiancé, N’itin Cheriyan of Lynchburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2003 at Spring Hill cemetery by Dr. Timothy Madison.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Heights Baptist Church.

Lois Bailess Rush

Lois Bailess Rush, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away, Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation. She was the wife of the late Alfred Rush.

Born in Pittsylvania County on October 17, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Willis Dodson Bailess and the late Margie Hatchett Bailess. She was a member of College Hill Baptist Church and had retired from Duti-Duds.

She is survived by three brothers, Herbert Bailess and wife Virginia of Edmond, WV, Norman Bailess and wife Nell of Welcome, NC and W. Melvin Bailess of Lynchburg; three sisters, Ellen B. McFaden of Lynchburg, Ruby Kiger and husband Edward of Madison Heights and Mildred Hoaglin and husband Don of Westminster, CO, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. Andrew P. Grose. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her sister Ruby Kiger at 216 Ridge St. Madison Heights.

Maurice French

Maurice French, 81, of 290 Wright Shop Road, Madison Heights, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst. He was the husband of June Smith French.

Born January 22, 1923 in Bluefield, VA, he was the son of the late Giles and Lillie Compton French. He was retired from the Adams Motor Company Body Shop with twenty-eight years of service and a member of the V.F.W. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and while serving during World War II was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with One Star, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with Two Stars. Mr. French was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Madison Heights, where he served as a Deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ed, Kelly, George, Buster, and Mack French and three sisters, Sadie French, Nancy Brooks, and Florence Brown.

In addition to his wife, Mr. French is survived by two daughters, Connie F. Gunter and her husband, Jimmy of Madison Heights and Lisa F. Wheeler and her husband, Steve of Amherst; one sister, Jettie F. Reeves of Bluefield; four grandchildren, Kelly Martin and her husband, Mike, Leigh Ann Hines and her husband, Chris, Samantha Wheeler, and Taylor Wheeler and one great-granddaughter, Kaylyn Martin.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Terry Wornstaff and the Rev. Michael Fitzgerald. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Alice Wright Powell

Alice Wright Powell, 96, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in Avante’ Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Bon Martin Powell.

Born January 15, 1908 in St. Paul, VA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Paris and Lula Booker Wright. Mrs. Powell was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center and a member of Forest Road U.M. Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion Wright, Wiley Wright, and Edward Wright.

Mrs. Powell is survived by one son, Gilbert L. Powell and his wife, Laura of Lynchburg; one daughter, Evelyn P. “Winkie” Walker and her husband, Pete of Forest; five grandchildren, Wayne Powell and his wife, Deborah, Jimmy Powell and his wife, Susan, Victor Powell and his wife, Kathy, Johnny Walker and his wife, Donna and Crystal Walker Sax and her husband, George and a number of great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park, Forest.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and other times at the home of her son, 2530 Circle Road, Lynchburg and her daughter, 1543 Crockett Road, Forest.

David Conrad Pinkerton

David Conrad Pinkerton died Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born March, 4, 1917 in Montrose, Colorado, son of Paul Whittier Pinkerton and Estelle Foute Pinkerton.

He and his wife, Marion, were married on June 25, 1940. He is also survived by four children, Nancy P. Regan and her husband, David of Owego, NY, Thomas D. Pinkerton and his wife, Becky of Warrenton, VA, Virginia P. Lundeen and her husband, Carl of Wilmington, NC and Charles C. Pinkerton and his wife, Deborah of Portsmouth, NH; nine grandchildren, Michael David Regan, Catherine R. O'Leary, James T. Regan, Barbara P. Roberts, David K. Pinkerton, K. Lise Lundeen, Charles D. Lundeen, Elizabeth B. Lundeen, Christopher C. Pinkerton and six great grandchildren.

He graduated from Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago and was a distinguished graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology (now known as Carnegie Mellon University) where he received BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Delta Epsilon, Scimitar and Sigma Xi and also a member of Beta Theta Pi. He ran track and cross country and was captain of both teams.

He was employed by General Electric from 1939 until his retirement. He has published a variety of technical papers, was active in many professional societies at G.E., including Elfun Society.

He was also active in his church as a vestry member and a Senior Warden. He was an avid amateur radio ham and a member of the trail club.

Family and friends will gather at St. John's columbarium for interment at 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, followed by a memorial service which will be held at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Habitat for Humanity, Westminster Canterbury, Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council or a charity of your choice.

Whitten Park Avenue Chapel is serving the Pinkerton family.

Shirley Ware Maxey

Shirley Ware Maxey, 70, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, May 3, 2002 at her home. She was born May 13, 1931 in Lynchburg, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Wilson Ware and Nettie Salmon Ware. She was a member and church treasurer of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Forest.

Ms. Maxey is survived by her six children; Sylvia (Tommy) Woody of Monroe, Brenda (Jerry) Roberts of Madison Heights and Robert (Kackle) Alien, David (Sharon) Allen, Melissa Overton and Joseph Scott Maxey all of Lynchburg. In addition to her children, she is survived by a brother; Samuel R. Ware of Lynchburg and was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday from Shiloh United Methodist Church in Forest by Dr. Wayne Wiley and the Reverend Eugene Condrey. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Lyle Edward “Ed” Hudson

Lyle Edward “Ed” Hudson, 39, of Evington, passed away Friday, October 31, 2003 at U.V.A Rehabilitation South in Charlottesville. He was the husband of Tammy Hylton Hudson of Evington.

Born March 7, 1964 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Clyde E. Hudson and Shirley Howard Hudson both of Lynchburg. He was a graduate of Brookville High School and U.V.A. Ed was employed at Frito-Lay and was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church, a former member of Cave Spring Rescue Squad in Roanoke.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his daughter, Taylor Nicole Hudson of Evington; his sister, Tracy H. Blount and her daughter Christina Rae of Charlottesville; and special friends Dr. W.G. Schenk, Richard McClure and Peggy Brown.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. Larry Davies and Rev. C. Douglas Pillow. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Ed’s parents at 37 Pine Dr., Lynchburg.

Mary Mitchell “Kitty” Napier

Mary Mitchell “Kitty” Napier, 67, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004 at her residence. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Phillip Ryland Napier, Sr.; a daughter, Martha N. Harvey; a son, Philip R. Napier, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Napier; a grandson, Ryne Alexander Napier all of Lynchburg; two brothers, John G. Mitchell of Denver, Colo., and Fred A. Mitchell, Jr. of Chatham; and a sister, Iris M. Fowlkes of Dry Fork.

She was born November 21, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late Fred Andrew Mitchell and the late Martha Gilbert Mitchell. Mrs. Napier was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Ann Napier; and by a brother, Gilmer Dale Mitchell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. Donnie Stevens. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be Tuesday from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel Ware Dodson

Hazel Ware Dodson, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. For 57 years, she was the wife of the late Malcolm Clark Dodson who passed away on Dec. 22, 2003.

Born June 16, 1917 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Julian Elbert Ware and the late Maude McCraw Ware. For many years, she and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm on Dodson Drive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: two brothers, James Ware and Acree Ware.

She is survived by; a sister, Ruby Ware of Lynchburg; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregivers, Tommy and Peggy Dudley, Sr., and Mark and Sherry Pugh.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. Henry Dodson and Rev. Mike Dodson. Interment will be in Dodson Family cemetery.

The family will receive friends today, from 7 – 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Roy Lyle Hayslett

Roy Lyle Hayslett, 92, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Medical Care Center. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Helen Black Hayslett.

Born August 17, 1912, in Alleghany County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Hayslett, Sr. and the late Gertrude Ayers Hayslett. Mr. Hayslett retired from the C.& O. Railroad after over 41 years of service, and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy on Garfield Ave.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Earl W. Hayslett; and by a grandson, Tony Hayslett.

In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by a son, Rodney L. Hayslett of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Justin Hayslett of PA and Donna Hayslett Winstead of Lynchburg; three sisters, Eunice Dull, Norma Dodd and Wanda Jean Irvine and her husband Carl; a sister-in-law; Gertrude Hayslett; six great-grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Gary L.Vernon officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence, 57 Wilson Drive, Lynchburg.
