Marshall Elliott Tanner, Sr.

Marshall Elliott Tanner, Sr., 88, of Lynchburg went peacefully to be with his Lord Friday, June 27, 2003 at Heritage Green. For 67 years, he was the husband of the late Virginia Jackson Tanner who passed away on January 16, 2000.

Born October 17, 1914 in Appomattox County, he was the son of the late Neal Arthur Tanner and the late Annie Jones Tanner. Mr. Tanner had retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after many years of employment and he was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter; Mildred Franklin.

Mr. Tanner is survived by: two daughters; Evelyn T. Maxey and husband Monroe of Rustburg and Betty T. Hamlet and husband Robert of Gladys, four sons; Marshall E. Tanner, Jr. and wife Doris of Virginia Beach, Neal T. Tanner and wife Barbara of Danville, Larry H. Franklin of Dunedin, Fla. and Steven C. Franklin and wife Connie of Lynchburg, twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother; Jones V. Tanner and wife Helen of Gladys, two sisters; Virginia T. Coates of Gladys and Louise T. Isaacs of Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2003 at Thomas Road Baptist Church by the Reverend Charlie Harbin and the Reverend David Heerspink. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the family home at 1401 Brookville Lane, Lynchburg.

William Monroe (Bill) Montgomery

William Monroe (Bill) Montgomery, 68, of Madison Heights, joined his Heavenly Father Friday, Jan. 23, 2004. He was the husband of Erma Anderson Montgomery.

Born in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late William Emmett Montgomery and Edith Waller Montgomery.

Bill was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and an electrician with Moore’s Electrical and Mechanical, Inc.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by three children; Bernadine M. Morcom and her husband Rick, of Forest, Bennie R. Montgomery of Madison Heights and Cindy M. Giles, her husband, Jim and their daughter, Morgan, of Lynchburg.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, from Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend Robert Tuck. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service.

The family requests that contributions be made to the Monelison Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 56, Madison Heights, Va. 24572.

Ronald James Koepke

Ronald James Koepke, 59, of Arrington, passed away Monday, May 3, 2004.

Born April 18, 1945, in Melrose Park Illinois, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Koepke was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart as well as many other commendations.

Survivors include his wife Linda Koepke, two children, Daniel James Koepke and fiancé Amy Therese Peters and Michael Jason Koepke and wife Clarice Marie, both of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two step-children, Jason Keith Kessel and wife Eva of Denver CO and Marti Lynn Kessel of Arrington; three grandchildren, Heidi Kessel, Klaus Kessel and Maxwell Schneider, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8:30p.m., at the funeral home.

John Albert Watts, Jr.

John Albert Watts, Jr., 69, of Rustburg, died, Sunday, August 29, 2004 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Drewry Watts.

Born January 19, 1935 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late John Albert Watts, Sr. and the late Lelia Wright Watts. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 16 and had served in Korea with the US Navy from 1957 to 1961. He had retired from the Atlantic Richfield Oil Co. after 39 years of employment.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Carroll E. and Thelma T. Watts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Deborah Sligh and husband Marshall of Mosley and children: Amanda, Chelsea and Ridge, three sons: John Thompson Watts and wife Laura of Madison Heights and children Vickie, Angie and her son Chase, Channon and Anthony, Michael W. Watts, Sr., and wife Dana and children Melinda, Elizabeth and son Devon, Leslie, Whitney and Michael, Jr., and Edward L. Watts and wife Teresa and children Dillon and Savana; special family friends, Debbie Franklin and her granddaughter Shyaz, and Haley Paige Campbell; a sister, Jewell Massie of Lynchburg; an aunt, Arlene Sterne of Bedford; and uncle, Edell Wright of Lynchburg; a cousin Joe Watts of Greensboro, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 16, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Candler Family cemetery, located on Camp Hydaway Road, by Rev. Carlton Duck.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 9 p.m., today, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and at other times at the family home.

Vivian Poe Greer

Vivian Poe Greer, 66, of Madison Heights, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Vaughan Ray Greer.

Born July 3, 1939 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of Nettie Tyree Poe Davis of Lynchburg and the late Marshall Cleveland Poe. Mrs. Greer retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after twenty-six years of service and until June of 2004 worked with the Helping Hand Nursing Service. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Amherst.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Lynn Greer; one brother, John Wesley Poe; one sister, Nannie Ruth Saunders and one grandson, Ricky Joe Greer.. .

Mrs. Greer is survived by five children, Vaughan Gray Greer of Madison Heights, Lloyd Ray Greer, both of Madison Heights, Timothy Greer and his wife, Ellow R. Greer of Amherst, Gregory Brian Greer and Teresa Greer Hancock, both of Madison Heights; one brother, Henry Leroy Poe of Lynchburg; one sister, Betty Gonzales of Texas; three grandchildren, Timothy Jason Greer, Joshua Vaughan Greer, and Greg Edward Roberts, “Scootie”; special friend, Sharon Johnson and a devoted daughter-in-law, Theresa Greer.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2005 in Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. Ronnie Freeman.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2005 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and other times at the residence.

Leo Alfred Buss

Lieutenant Colonel Leo Alfred Buss died March 13, 2003, in Lynchburg, of apparent heart failure.

A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, he served in the U.S. military for over 30 years. Beginning in 1940 as a private in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the European Theatre of Operations, he moved to the Air Force in 1947 and rose through the ranks, serving in the U.S., Japan, Germany and finally the Pentagon when he retired in 1970. He subsequently entered the federal government from 1971-1984 where he served in the Executive Office of the President and Department of Commerce. Lt. Colonel Buss was a two-time Legion of Merit recipient, and earned the following campaign and service medals: European African Middle Eastern Service Medal (w/two stars), WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Distinguished Service Badge (w/Oak Cluster), Air Force Reserve Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (w/Oak Cluster). He served as a delegate and United States spokesman to several international telecommunications conferences and was chairman of the Interdepartmental Radio Advisory Committee in the Executive Office of the President upon his retirement in 1984 to Alexandria Va., after 44 years of service to his country.

Lt. Colonel Buss was born in Bennington, Vt. in June 1921 and was first married to Margaret Eva Nyhan in Concord, N.H. in January 1948. Margaret passed away in 1993.

A 1963 graduate of the University of Maryland (Heidelberg, Germany), he is survived by his second wife, Ann Normyle Buss of Lynchburg; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Schultz of Portland, Ore., two sons, Dr. Leo W. Buss of Durham, Conn., and Mark J. Buss of Richmond; six grandchildren, five step-children, Mari Normyle of Lynchburg, Michael Normyle of VT, Christopher Normyle of TX, Daniel Normyle of Alexandria, and Dennis Normyle of Mechanicsville, MD and ten step grandchildren.

A liturgy of the resurrection will be held Thursday, March 20, 2003 at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church by the Reverend Jim Dorson. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, in Arlington National cemetery.

Whitten Timberlake Chapel is serving the family.

George Woodrow Jamerson

George Woodrow Jamerson, 71, of Old Rustburg Road, Lynchburg passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret Harris Jamerson.

Born February 15, 1932 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Roy Jamerson, Sr. and the late Sweetie Brooks Jamerson. Mr. Jamerson retired from Lynchburg Foundry after many years.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: two step-sons; William D. Rhodes and Wendell A. Rhodes.

Mr. Jamerson is survived by: two daughters; Shelia J. Gunter and husband Wayne of Rustburg and Dorothy J. Gray and husband R. P. Gray, Jr. of Danville, special grandson; Derrick L. Jamerson, special granddaughter; Melissa Ann Grubs, grandson Cody Jamerson and two other grandchildren, special great granddaughter; Breanna Farmer and six other great grandchildren and two sisters; Vergie and Louise.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday June 28, 2003 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by the Rev. Lyle Roach. Interment will follow at Lynchburg Church of the Brethren cemetery on Old Rustburg Road.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter Sheila Gunter at 1215 Red House Road, Rustburg.

E. Wayne Rodgers

E. Wayne Rodgers, 65, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, August 26, 2004. He was the husband of Laura Duncum Rodgers.

Wayne was a retired salesman for Pannill Kniting Co.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his friend, Spike.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1920 Burnt Bridge Rd., Apt. 423 this afternoon, Saturday, August 28, 2004.

Frank Ross Blondino

Frank Ross Blondino, 62, of Monroe, died Monday, February 14, 2005 in the University of Virginia Hospital. He was the husband of Martha PerDieu Blondino.

Born August 18, 1942 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Ross and Caroline Tharpe Blondino. He was a retired Deputy with the Amherst County Sheriff’s Dept., a member of Clinton Lodge #73, A.F. & A.M. in Clifford, and a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Blondino was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charlie B. PerDieu, Sr.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Blondino is survived by two sons, Michael Ross Blondino and his wife, Angela of California, MD and Frank Edward Blondino and his wife, Lisa of Easton, PA; two brothers, Eddie C. Blondino and his wife, Delores of Madison Heights and Phillip L. Blondino and his wife, Cathy of Monroe; one sister, Lynn B. Laughlin and her husband, Jimmy, also of Monroe and five grandchildren, Ryan, Katelyn, Courtney, Nathaniel, and Megan and his mother-in-law, Lena M. Gross of Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Bryan Ferrell. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow in Cornerstone Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the funeral home.

Gerald Montgomery Kelly

Captain Gerald Montgomery Kelly, 65, of Lynchburg, departed this life Thursday, March 13, 2003.

He was the husband of Billie JoAnn Kelly for 35 years.

Captain Kelly was born March 15, 1937 in Greenock, Scotland, the son of Lawrence Mathieson Kelly and Mary Montgomery Kelly. He emigrated to America with his family in 1950 and became a naturalized citizen after his graduation form George Washington High School in 1953. He was then employed by the Virginia Electric and Power Company.

Drafted in 1960, he served in the U.S. Army until his Honorable Discharge from active duty in 1963. He was an air traffic controller with the 24th. Aviation Battalion in Augsburg, Germany from 1961 to 1963. He was promoted to Specialist Four and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar.

Captain Kelly began his aviation career with Eastern Airlines in 1965, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Airline Pilots Association and had been a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association since 1958.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen Christopher Kelly of Lynchburg and a sister, Lauraine Dunn of Tacoma, Washington.

Cremation arrangements were made through Whitten Timberlake Chapel and private services were conducted at the family's request and to respect Captain Kelly's last wishes.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Campbell County Rescue Squad.

Louise Lucado Brooks

Louise Lucado Brooks, 81, of Lynchburg, died Thursday June 19, 2003 following a short illness.She was the wife of the late Frank Randolph Brooks, who died March 18, 2003.

Born December 6, 1921 in Appomattox County, she was a daughter of the late John Miller Lucado and Elma Marsh Lucado. In addition, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and John Lucado.

Mrs. Brooks was formerly employed with the developement office of Lynchburg College for 18 years, and was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her son, R. Wayne Brooks and his wife Hannah of Lynchburg; four sisters, Dot Lindsey of Madison Heights, Marion Williamson of Evergreen, Phyllis Smith of Appomattox, and Patricia Phelps of Gladstone; a brother, Gene R. Lucado of Lynchburg; and one granddaughter, Allison L. Brooks of Lynchburg.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday June 21, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Corey Ingold, co-pastor of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today (Fri) at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road. ( optional-- and at other times at the residence )
