Alice Kathleen “Kathy” Story Brent

Alice Kathleen “Kathy” Story Brent, 63, of 186 Farmers Joy Lane, Arrington, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at The Duke University Medical Center. She was the wife of W. Kent Brent.

Born April 15, 1940 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Nellie Camden Story of Lynchburg and the late Hamner Brown Story. Kathy was retired from G.E./ Ericsson and was a member of Westview Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, William Kent Brent, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Christine Adams of Lynchburg, and a special niece, Cindy Warren of Bailey, CO.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. John Ragland. Interment will follow in the Brent Family cemetery, Farmers Joy Lane.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Delores “Lois” Wright Floyd

Delores “Lois” Wright Floyd, 60, of Madison Heights, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, R. Leroy Floyd.

She was born April 8, 1944 in Amherst, the daughter of Eva Rigney Wright of Madison Heights and the late Thomas Wright. Lois was a member of Monroe Church of God and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Bryant and husband Steve of Amherst; a son, Tony Floyd and wife Lori of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Shaun, Shane, Stephanie, Summer and Schuyler Bryant; one great grandson, Caleb Hanks; a brother. Buddy Wright; and three sisters, Christine Floyd, Margaret Webster and Barbara Cash.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Rev. Roy Newcomb and Rev. Susan Campbell. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be today from 7 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 213 Clearview Road, Madison Heights.

John Samuel Nicholas

John Samuel Nicholas, 86, of Lynchburg, died Friday August 27, 2004 following a short illness. He was the husband of Marguerite Gunn Nicholas.

Born April 19, 1918 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late George Samuel Nicholas and the late Ella Mills Nicholas, in addition, he was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Mr. Nicholas retired from General Electric Company; he was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church for 71 years, having served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon, he also was a member of 50 Plus and served as Chaplin of the T. Wiley Davis Madison Heights Lodge, Order of the Oddfellows.

In addition to his wife Marguerite, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia N. Holland and her husband Ronnie of Frost Proof, FL., two grandchildren, Lisa Houser and Ronnie Holland, both of Homestead, FL. and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday August 30, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. James D. Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to services Monday at the chapel, and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church.

Phyllis Mulkey Martin

Phyllis Mulkey Martin, 74 of Madison Heights, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2005. She was the wife of Lawrence L. Martin.

Born September 4, 1930, in Tannerville, she was a daughter of the late Frazier and Mary Marshall Mulkey. Mrs. Martin was retired from Tultex in Martinsville, where she worked as a sewing machine operator.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Mary Alice Turner and husband Ronald “Thumb” and their children, Chris and Tommy Turner, of Madison Heights, three brothers, Roger Mulkey of Lexington, NC, Raymond Mulkey of Axton, and Junior Mulkey of Bland County, five step children, Angie Roop and husband Steve of Radford, Andy Martin of Charlotte, NC, Lisa of Locus, GA, Janet Marie Martin and Larry Wayne Martin, both of Charlotte, NC, three sisters-in-law, Frances Justice of Salem, Shirley Mullins and Shelby Fisher, both of Elliston, eight grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Reverend Jacob Uthup. Interment will take place in Meade cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Mary Turner, 125 Turner St. in Lynchburg.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel, is assisting the family.

Nelle Robinette Liggan

Nelle Robinette Liggan, 88, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Westminster-Canterbury. She was the wife of the late James Brown Liggan.

Born October 23, 1916 in Wise County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Newton and Nancy Carra Carrico Robinette.

Mrs. Liggan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Odd Fellows Home Link Club.

Mrs. Liggan is survived by two daughters, Jane L. Bunnell and her husband, Arthur C. Bunnell of Rustburg and Pamela Lygon of Lynchburg; two sisters, Jeanetta R. Banton of Farmville and Edna Mae Couch of Coeburn; four beloved grandchildren, Benjamin L. Bunnell, Elizabeth F. Bunnell, Audra B. Callahan, and Jill C. Krause and her husband, Dr. Robert H. Krause; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Louise Bunnell and Arthur Fotis Bunnell and several nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of Mrs. Liggan's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Westminster-Canterbury Chapel by Dr. M. Anderson Sale.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Westminster-Canterbury Fund, which will be designated for the Nurse's and Nursing Assistant Program.

Frank Randolph Brooks

Frank Randolph Brooks, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For 62 years, he was the husband of Louise Lucado Brooks.

Born April 16, 1919 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Walter E. Brooks and the late Lydia Wiley Brooks. Mr. Brooks retired in 1971 from the Mead Corp. where he was a supervisor for over 30 years and he was a member of the Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Mead Forman’s Club.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son; Randolph “Wayne” Brooks and wife Hannah of Lynchburg, a granddaughter; Allison Brooks of Lynchburg and a brother Walter E. Brooks and wife Nancy also of Lynchburg.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum by the Reverend Raymond Eichler.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Raymond Whitfield Hudlow

Raymond Whitfield Hudlow, 77, of Rustburg, died Monday, June 23, 2003 at Avante’ at Lynchburg.

Born July 20, 1925 in Augusta County, he was the son of the late Luther W. and Edna Hanger Hudlow. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corp and while proudly serving his country during World War II, spent two years as a prisoner of war. Mr. Hudlow was of Baptist faith.

Mr. Hudlow is survived by a devoted niece, Beverly “Annie” Wade of Rustburg; one brother, William Hudlow and two sisters, Aline Cassidy and Evelyn Nitz, all of Waynesboro.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Edgewood cemetery at Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church in Grottoes.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Phyllis Pauline Casey

Phyllis Pauline Casey, 81, of Lynchburg, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Medical Care Center.

Born in Madison Heights on May 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Edward Casey and the late Loula Smoot Casey. She was employed at Craddock-Terry for over 41 yrs. and was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church, the Quarter Century Club at Craddock-Terry and the Fairview Rebekah Lodge #52.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda M. Casey, Thelma C. Wilmer and Shirley W. Casey.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen Reynolds and husband Earl and Margaret C. Foster both of Lynchburg; four nephews, Stephen E. Reynolds, Marvin R. Reynolds and William M. Foster all of Forest and David W. Foster of Monroe; one niece, Luann Foster Turner of Amherst; a special school friend, Dorothy Jackson of Florida; and a special caregiver and friend Florence Johnson of Lynchburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2004 at Presbyterian cemetery by Rev. James E. Baucom.

Family visitation will be from 3 – 5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Clyde Ledger Wilson, Sr.

Clyde Ledger Wilson, Sr., 93, of Lynchburg, died Friday August 27, 2004 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Irene Wilson.

Born May 5, 1911 in Watauga County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late William Henry Wilson and the late Emma Isaacs Wilson; in addition, ten brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Wilson was the retired owner of Wilson’s Alignment, and a member of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by their children, Barbara W. Jamerson and her husband James, Clyde L. “Bud” Wilson and his wife Rosemary, Ronnie Wilson and his wife Bobbi, David L. Wilson and his wife Melinda and Jeffrey R. Wilson and his wife Cathy; a sister, Edna Townsend; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday August 30, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park, with Pastor Robert Wilson officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Viola Sales Nuckols

Viola Sales Nuckols, 89, of Madison Heights, died Sunday, February 13, 2005 in the Privette Private Care Home. She was the wife of the late Henry Franklin Nuckols, Jr.

Born July 23, 1915 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lewis Sales, Sr. and Cora Anderson Sales. Mrs. Nuckols was a member or of Monroe United Methodist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Sales.

Mrs. Nuckols is survived by two sons, Frank Nuckols and his wife, Darleen of Madison Heights and David Nuckols and his wife, Delores of Lynchburg; one brother, Robert L. Sales, Jr. and his wife, Alice of Madison Heights, one sister, Katherine S. Vest, also of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Teresa M. Nuckols and her husband, Jay Sprouse, Angela D. Nuckols, Christy L. Nuckols, Lisa N. Davis and her husband, Bryan, and Robert White and four great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Glynn A. Coleman.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel and other times at the home of Frank and Darleen, 300 Amelon Road, Madison Heights.

Maedell Adkins Gallier

Maedell Adkins Gallier, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday March 14, 2003 at Autumn Care of Altavista. S

he was the widow of William Homer Gallier. Born in Pittsylvania County, May 6, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John Edward Adkins and Isabel Neal Adkins, also preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Adkins and Curtis Adkins; and sisters, Reva A. Worth, Virginia A. Abbott, Connie A. Gunter, and Lou Ella A. Creasey.

Mrs. Gallier was a former employee of Dale Garment Compamy and a member of Eastbrook Baptist Church. She is survived by her brothers, Clyde Adkins of Rustburg and Curnel Adkins of Lynchburg; sisters, Irene A. Goff of Lynchburg and Christine A. Garbee of Evington; devoted sister-in-law, Exie Adkins of Hurt, numerous nieces, nephews and two special friends, Verna Brooks and Clara Rigney.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday March 17, 2003 at Whitten Park Ave Chapel, by the Rev. Charlie Spencer and the Rev. Roy Creasey. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memroial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00to8:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, 1336 Park Ave., and at other times at her sister Irene's residence.

Evangeline Hancock Myers Clary

Evangeline Hancock Myers Clary, 68, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Born in Lynchburg, May 31, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Allen Leon Myers and Ellen Ford Myers. She was a retired nursing supervisor with Lynchburg General Hospital and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

One daughter, Sally Clary Rice and her husband Neil of Greensboro, NC; one brother, James Myers and his wife Karen of Lynchburg and her grandson, Neil O. Rice, III of Greensboro, NC, survive her.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Roberts officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.

Whitten Timberlake Chapel is serving the family.
