Sharon Lupold Mosure

Sharon Lupold Mosure, 61, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at her home. For 41 years, she was the wife of Richard D. Mosure, of Lynchburg, who survives.

She was born April 6, 1942 in Endicott, NY, the daughter of the late Merle Lupold and the late Margaret Lupold Spencer. Sharon was a member and choir member at Thomas Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by two children, Amy Lynne Mosure and David Jonathan Mosure, her brother Larry Lupold and by her step-father James Spencer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Kimberly A. Hall and her husband Rick, two grandchildren, Justin and Judah Hall all of Laredo, TX, two aunts, Helen Confer and Martha Barner, cousins Roy Confer and Debra, Amanda and Stephen Grinnell all of upstate New York and several other cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Thomas Road Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Falwell and Dr. David Randlett. Interment will be at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, in Maranatha Memorial Gardens, Martinsburg, WV.

Family visitation will be from 6 – 8:30 p.m., Friday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the family home.

Amalia Moore Burleigh

Amalia Moore Burleigh, 92, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday January 16, 2004 following a short illness. She was the widow of the Rev. James Sidney Burleigh, a United Methodist Minister, with whom she served through Virginia.

Born November 2, 1911 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late William Bryant Moore and Etta Neighbors Moore.

Mrs. Burleigh was a 1934 graduate of Lynchburg College, a retired math teacher for the Lynchburg City School System, and numerous other school

systems through Virginia until her retirement in 1973. She co-owned and operated the Burleigh Charolais Farm for a number of years, following her retirement form teaching, was a caretaker for the elderly with the Comm- unity Service Agency for 15 years, and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, the Rev. William J. Burleigh and his wife Susan

of Lynchburg, and two beloved granddaughters, Karyl B. Bloyer and her husband Christopher of Upper Marlboro, MD and Catherine B. Smith and her husband Brian of New Stanton, Pa.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday January 20, 2004, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Joseph T. Carson and the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1501 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503

Mary Hackworth Burnette

Mary Hackworth Burnette, 93, of Lynchburg, died Thursday April 22, 2004, at the Oaks of Lynchburg. She was the widow of Roy Davis Burnette.

Born November 14, 1910 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late George Russell Hackworth and the late Katherine Davidson Hackworth.

Mrs. Burnette was a retired employee of Virginia Baptist Hospital and a member of College Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Michael D. Burnette of Partlow; her sister, Emma J. Hack-worth of Lynchburg; devoted nieces and nephews, Ed L. and Heide Hackworth of Hampton, Gerald K. and Gail Hackworth of VA Beach, Robert R. and Frances Hack-worth of Murrells Inlet, SC, Kay H. and Wayne Arthur of Forest, David and Martha Hack worth of Lynchburg and Sylvia H. Roberts of Lynchburg; also surviving are several great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, with private interment to follow in Presbyterian cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services Saturday.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Burnette may be made to College Hill Baptist Church, 1101 Floyd Street, Lynchburg, VA.

Lorene Day Cleary

Lorene Day Cleary of Lynchburg died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Westminster Canterbury. She was the wife of the late Thomas Arthur Cleary.

She was born October 4, 1915 in Waugh, the daughter of the late George Washington Day and the late Mary Hawks Day. She was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church, past president of the Elizabeth Harvey Sunday school class and a member of the Fort Hill Woman’s Club. She was owner of Cleary’s Beauty Salon for 52 years and was a member of the Lynchburg Hairdressers Assoc., and the Virginia Hair Fashion Committee.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a stepson, W. Arthur Cleary; six brothers: Andrew, John, Woodrow, Ernest, Ralph and Leonard Day; and three sisters: Marie Downey, Barbara Libertore and Elizabeth Hardy.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith C. Connell of Lynchburg; her step-son, Calvin G. Cleary of Garner, NC; her grandson, Michael L. Connell, Jr. of Lynchburg; eight step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great grandchildren; two step-great, great granddaughters; a sister-in-law, Rachel Day of Lynchburg; two brothers-in-law: Anthony Libertore of Lynchburg and Marion Hardy of Maryland.

The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers and especially Jean Butler, Dot Coleman, Shirl Douglas, Faye Coleman and Janet Patterson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Fort Hill United Methodist Church by Rev. Glen H. Cannon and Janet Hawkins. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., today, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter, 960 Rothowood Road, Lynchburg.

Clifton Leonard Snidow, III

Clifton Leonard Snidow, III, 49, of Amherst, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at his home.

Born September 21, 1955 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Clifton Leonard Snidow, Jr. of Lynchburg and the late Ann Smith Snidow. He was a bulldozer operator at the Campbell County Landfill and a member of Moose Lodge 1727. Mr. Snidow was a member of First Christian Church.

In addition to his father, Mr. Snidow is survived by one daughter, Brooke A. Snidow of Lynchburg and her fiance’, Kevin Wells of Forest; two brothers, Douglas Snidow and his wife, Peggy of Virginia Beach and Robert Snidow and his wife, Terri of Richmond; one sister, Shirley Snidow, also of Richmond; his girlfriend, Lula Layne of Lynchburg; three nieces and two nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel by

Pastor Timothy Hessel-Robinson. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2005 at the funeral home.

Eugene "Shorty" Hester

Eugene "Shorty" Hester, 91, of Lynchburg, died Monday May 16, 2005 at the Bedford County Nursing Home.

Born in Harlan, KY, he worked for many years at Cindy's Truck Stop on U.S. 29 South of Lynchburg. He was loved by his many friends and truck drivers; he never met a stranger and was looked up to by many.

Shorty is survived by his longtime friends and devoted caregivers, J.S. and May Meador of Rustburg and their extended family.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Virginia Memorial Park by the Rev. Marvin L. Hiner.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cindy Meador Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of, Hyland Heights Baptist Church P.O. Box 4538 Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Timberlake Chapel, 239-0331, is assisting the family.

Charlie Lee Vail, Jr.

Charlie Lee Vail, Jr., 78, of Madison Heights, died Monday, March 03, 2003 in Guggenheimer Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Ellen Carwile Vail.

Born September 2, 1924 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Charlie Lee Vail, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth White Vail. As an architect for more than forty years, he designed many churches, business offices, and homes in the central Virginia area. In 1961, he completed the design for the Amherst County Seal. Mr. Vail served the community for 17 years in the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department, nine of those as Chief. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Vail was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret V. Watt.

Mr. Vail is survived by his daughter, Mary V. Logwood and her husband, Claude of Madison Heights; sister, Dorothy V. Rucker and her husband, Henry of Aiken, SC; two grandchildren, Ellen Marie Logwood Ayers and her husband, Richard of Greenville, SC and James Vail Logwood of Madison Heights and two nieces, Nancy R. Goslen and her husband, Andy of Aiken, SC and Elizabeth Bierbaum and her husband, Clark of Charlotte, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 A.M., Thursday at Madison Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the home of his daughter, 252 Seventh Street, Madison Heights.

Keith Elliott Morton

Keith Elliott Morton, 31, of 200 Bell Street, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003 at his residence.

Born January 30, 1972 in Lynchburg, he was the son of June May Morton Moore of Chatham and the late Warren Keith Morton. Keith was an employee of J.M.J. Landscaping and a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Bedford Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Jacob Keith Morton of Lynchburg; a sister, Julie Morton Dyke and husband Warner of Rustburg; his grandmother, Louise P. May of Lynchburg, his step-father Randall Moore of Chatham, former wife Tracy Clark Morton of Lynchburg and special friend; Robie Ashley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. David Schrock. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Richard Lee Wilson

Richard Lee Wilson, 70, of Lynchburg, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday January 15, 2004. He was the beloved husband of Shirley TaymanWilson, for 42 1/2 years.

Born February 3, 1933, in Scott County, Virginia, and was raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Denver and Almeda Johnson Wilson, and was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the U.S.S. Renshaw, he retired after 38 years service with Lynchburg Foundry, as an Inspector for the Shell Finishing Inspection Department, Lower Basin Warehouse. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16 and a devoted member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. Richard loved life and adored his family.

In addition to his loving wife Shirley, he is survived by two adored daughters, Brenda W. Rowland and her husband Bert and Cindy W. Bryant and her husband Mark, all of Lynchburg; six brothers, James, Ralph, and Charles, of Lynchburg, Guy, of Madison Heights, Jerry, and Larry Wilson, of Lynchburg; three sisters, Marie Bondurant of Bedford, Lola Merkey of Madison Heights, and Faye Farrar of Midlothian; two precious grand- children, Daniel H. and Rebecca E. Rowland; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lots of loving friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2004, at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, by the Rev. Randy Bower. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, 5225 Fort Ave., Lynchburg, Va 24502.

Eunice Carey Moore

Eunice Carey Moore, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of the late William Robertson Moore, Jr. who passed away September 25, 2002.

Born April 30, 1919 in Naruna, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland Carey and the late Lottie Childress Carey. Mrs. Moore was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Moore is survived by: a son; William R. Moore, III and wife Carol of Taylorsville, KY, a daughter; Peggy M. Jacobs of Herndon, seven grandchildren; Rob Moore, Katie Pruzan, Burt Moore, Susanne Thompson, Clifton Moore, Tonya Foltz and Kirsten Foltz and eight great grandchildren; Taylor Moore, Shelby Moore, Devon Pruzan, Madeline Carey Pruzan, Tanner Pruzan, Selena Baldwin, Kristen Moore and Bradley Moore.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Ronald L. Obenchain. Interment will follow in Presbyterian cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Friday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Virginia Monroe Wood

Virginia Monroe Wood, 84, of 1306 Garfield Avenue, died Friday, June 13, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Reuben Dudley Wood of Lynchburg, who survives.

Born February 23, 1919 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Spain Monroe and Mary Enoch Monroe. Mrs. Wood was retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corp. after 43 years of employment and a member of Eternal Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband; Charlie T. Mayberry, an infant son; James Thomas Mayberry and by three brothers and three sisters.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Marion M. Wood and husband Elmo of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; Karen W. Fortune and husband Joseph of Lynchburg, Peggy W. Lawrie and husband Gregg and Teresa W. Simpson both of Madison Heights, Mary Escher and husband Phil of Gladstone, Wanda W. Parrish and husband Mike and Troy Lee Wood both of Lynchburg and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by the Rev. Dennis Wade and Dr. Melvin Campbell. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at at the home of her daughter at 1801 Kentucky Ave., Lynchburg.
