Garry Madison Ford

Garry Madison Ford, 56, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, September 29, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For 35 years, he was the husband of Sue Guthrie Ford, of Lynchburg, who survives.

He was born September 19, 1947 in Lynchburg, the son of Margaret Darley Ford and the late Henry Madison Ford. Garry was a retired Master Sergeant of the US Air Force and was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Central Virginia Community College.

In addition to his father, Garry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Fisher Darley and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ford.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle Ford Lindsay and her children, Jacob Kent and Jamie Madison Lindsay, daughter Marsha Ford Gaines and son-in-law David Gaines and their son, Riley Davis Gaines, a sister, Anne Ford Duff and her husband Mike Duff along with their children, Christopher and Katelyn Duff, two favorite aunts, Anne Ford Tuck and Wendy Ford Hollingsworth, an uncle, William Ford and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Spring Hill cemetery by Rev. Robert Brubaker.

Family visitation will be from 7 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the family home at 545 Rainbow Forest Drive, Lynchburg.

Any one wishing to make a memorial contribution is asked to please consider either the American Cancer Society or the Lynchburg Humane Society.

Joseph F. Cronin

Joseph F. Cronin, 72, of Lynchburg, passed away, Friday, January 16, 2004. Mr. Cronin was retired from Wynn's Precision, after 30 years of service, and was a United States Army veteran, having served in Korea.

Born June 24, 1931, he was a son of the late George and Margaret Clarke Cronin.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary and her husband Jerry Stone, Jr., of Richmond and Margaret Cronin, of Lynchburg; two sisters, Regina McLaughlin and Peggy Martin; two brothers, George and Tommy Cronin; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jerry, Ian and Gabe; a special friend, Joyice Peterson, of, Lynchburg, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 19, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Dr. Timothy Madison Officiating. The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home, form 6-7:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden 1800Lakeside Ave Richmond, VA.

Kathleen Robinson Tinsley

Kathleen Robinson Tinsley, 96, of Amherst, died Wednesday, March 05, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late J. Warren Tinsley.

Born September 27, 1906 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Somers Mays Robinson. Mrs. Tinsley was a retired piano teaher at Pleasant View Elementary School . She was a member of Amherst Baptist Church for more than eighty years, where she taught Sunday School for many of those years and was the church pianist. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a past officer of the Seven Hills Trailer Club and the Avion Travel Trailer Club.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and David Robinson and two sisters, Thelma Robinson and Edna Simmons.

Mrs. Tinsey is survived by her son, Bill Tinsley and his wife, Dee; her grandson, Scott Tinsley and his wife, Mandy, and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Tinsley, all of Amherst.

Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. David Donahue and the Rev. Allan Monfils. Interment in Amherst cemetery.

The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 06, 2003 at the funeral home.

Calvin Lee “LeRoy” Johns

Calvin Lee “LeRoy” Johns, 52, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For 22 years, he was the husband of Betty Clements Johns of Amherst, who survives.

Born December 9, 1950 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Andrew J. Johns and the late Tessie Branham Johns. LeRoy was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johns was preceded in death by a brother; Jimmy Johns and by a sister: Joyce Goff.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters; Kim Clements and Laura Johns both of Madison Heights, two grandchildren; Tyler and Shakira, three brothers; Allen Johns of Madison Heights and Mitch and Donnie Johns both of Richmond and a sister; Libby Stinnett of Amherst.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. today, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the interment at the family home.

Charlotte Ann Gaiser

Charlotte Ann Gaiser, 67, of Lynchburg, passed away, Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 10 years, David C. Gaiser.

She was born February 13, 1937 in Pahokee, FL, the daughter of the late Ernest Will, the late Willameana McKinney Will Rumore, and her late step father Vincent Rumore. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and step father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest “Pete” Leon Will.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Diana M. Bedingfield and Deborah Dotson Cartwright and husband Jimmy Ray both of Florida; four grandsons, Estell Roy Dotson, Jr., Johann Baird Bedingfield, Jacob Casimir Bedingfield and Michael Brazell all of Florida; a sister, Sandra V. Rumore; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews all of Florida.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. Gil Brightsen and Rev. Steve Tyree. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Charles Stephen Roach, Sr.

Charles Stephen Roach, Sr., 63, of 281 Ragland Road, Madison Heights, died Monday, January 31, 2005 at his home. He was the husband of Carolyn Carter Roach for more than forty-two years.

Born April 25, 1941 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Lester Vernon Roach, Sr. and the late Virginia Harrell Roach. Steve retired from the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company after thirty-seven years of service and served in the Virginia National Guard. He was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Charles Stephen “Butch” Roach, Jr. and one brother, Glen Richard Roach.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by one son, Dennis (Wayne) Roach and his wife, Terri of Lynchburg; one daughter, Katherine Anne Roach Parsons of Fairfax; two brothers, Vernon Roach, Jr. and his wife, Nadine of Boones Mill and Phillip Roach and his wife, Laverne of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, Nichole, Tyler, Zachary, Amber, Brittany, Brandon, Brooke, and Dylan; a number of nieces and nephews and his loving pet and companion, "Pugzy the Little Man".

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Nathaniel Hable. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and 7-8:30 p.m. at the residence.

Geneva Louise Burks Templeton

Geneva Louise Burks Templeton, 76, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, May 16, 2005 at Lynchburg Health & Rehab. Center.

She was the widow of Ralph Carroll Templeton. Born July 30, 1928, in Amherst County, she was one of twelve children to the late Douglas Roy Burks and the late Ethel Mae Crist Burks.

Mrs. Templeton retired from Belk's Dept. Store, formerly Leggett's and was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Ricky Steven Templeton and Ronald Wayne Templeton and his wife Karin of Lynchburg; three sisters, Vivian Kidd and her husband Eddie of Madison Heights, Madeline Krantz of Evington and Effie Singleton of Lynchburg; her five grandchildren, Kristen Renee, Steven Wayne, Michael Joseph, Garrison Hurst and Mitchell Zane; a devoted former daughter-in-law, Lisa Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Dot Templeton of Glen Burnie, MD. and Betty Burks of Evington.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Dr. Kenneth B. Bryan officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Timberlake Chapel, 239-0331, is assisting the family with services.

Elgin Thomas Seamster

Elgin Thomas Seamster, 82, of 114 Berger Street, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katie Bondurant Seamster.

Born October 13, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Roy Thomas and Roxie Vaughan Seamster. Mr. Seamster was a retired cabinet maker and furniture refurnisher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Seamster and brothers, William, Melvin, Gene, and Ronald Seamster.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Seamster is survived by two brothers, Robert J. Seamster, and Walter W. Seamster; and four sisters, Delores Evans, Gertrude Seamster, and Mildred Garrison, all of Lynchburg and Mary Snead of Newport News.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Fort Hill Memorial Park, by the Rev. James Wood and the Rev. Danny Hicks.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 4005 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24014.

Edward Earl (Ed) Williams

Edward Earl (Ed) Williams, 67, of 5181 Irish Creek Road, Vesuvius, VA, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. Twice married , he was the husband of Mary Ann " M.A." Williams and the late Ethel Leonard Williams.

Born June 23, 1935 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late James Ransell Williams, Sr. and the late Jessie Camden Williams. Ed was a retired self-employed skilled craftsman and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed golf, fishing and his mountain home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ed was also an Appalachian Trail Angel. He was a member of the Madison Heights Jaycees and Randolph Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Williams Huff.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by one son, Richard Edward (Ricky) Williams of Key West, FL; one step-daughter, RoseAnn Richards of Lynchburg; four sisters, Hazel W. Alvey of Culpeper, Minabelle W. Arthur and her husband, H.B. of Madison Heights, Mary W. Tyree and her husband, Milton of Lynchburg, and Sterling W. Fitzgerald and her husband, Lincoln of Madison Heights; two brothers, Jimmy R. (Jimmy) Williams, Jr. and his wife, Frances and C. Russell Williams and his wife, Janice, both of Madison Heights.

Ed is also survived by one granddaughter, Taryn Williams of Key West, FL; four step-grandchildren, Sarah Richards, Christopher Richards, Dunn Richards, and David Richards, all of Lynchburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. L. Grant Carter, III and the Rev. Tyler Downey. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today (Friday) day at the funeral home.

Christian W. McKenna

Christian W. McKenna, 68, of Lynchburg, passed away, Thursday, January 15, 2004. Born December 25, 1935, he was a son of the late William Edmund McKenna and Lena Crouch McKenna. His wife, Viola Dunnaway McKenna and a brother, Phillip McKenna, Sr., also preceded him in death. Mr. McKenna owned his own roofing company and was one of the last of the old roofers in Lynchburg.

Survivors include two sons, Larry R. McKenna and Sherman E. McKenna; a daughter, Marie McKenna, all of Lynchburg; four stepchildren, Bobby Bentley and wife Betsy, of Phenix, Wanda Slack, of Tampa, FL, Hansford "Gene" Wood, of Rustburg and Kenneth L. Wood, of Tampa, FL; two sisters, Virginia M. Hubbard, of Madison Heights and Doris M. Dunn, of Lynchburg; a devoted niece, Debra Cox, of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 17, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel, with the Reverend Charlie Spencer and Reverend Doug Roakes officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. The family would like to send a special thanks to a special group of friends that they consider family, the W.F.O., and to Reverend Doug Roakes.

Alice Stern Beeler

Alice Stern Beeler, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away, Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Henry Beeler, Jr., who passed away on April 28, 1979.

She was born May 11, 1914 in Charlotte County, the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Stern and the late Mary Marshall Stern. Mrs. Beeler was a longtime member of Fairview Christian Church and prior to her retirement had been employed by Pettyjohn Shoe Co., and the Macke Vending Co.

She is survived by her son, H. Wayne Beeler and wife Rachel of Forest; two grandchildren, Donna B. Hensley and husband Chris and Michael Wayne Beeler and wife Christy; two step great granddaughters, Beth Ann Hensley and Allison Hensley; and a sister, Elizabeth S. Keesee of Lawrenceville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2004 at Fairview Christian Church. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Thursday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of her son, 6007 Thomas Jefferson Rd., Forest.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution, please consider Fairview Christian Church or the American Diabetes Association.

Alene Nickerson Smalls

Alene Nickerson Smalls, 76, of Lynchburg, died Monday January 24, 2003 at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Bill W. Smalls. Born November 21, 1926 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Charles A. Nickerson and Arra Radford Nickerson; in addition, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane S. Blair. Mrs. Smalls was a member of The Church at Lynchburg.

She is survived by three children, David A. Blankenship and wife Lillian of Evington, Marie B. Baisden and husband "Okey" of Evington, and Gloria S. Tyree of Bedford; former son-in-law, Dale Tyree; former Daughter-in-law, Ruth Turner; one brother, Albert Nickerson of Maryland; six sisters, Gladys McFaden of Lynchburg, Georgia Beautelspacher of Maryland, Rachael McFaden of Madison Heights, Shirley Barrett and Marjorie Martin of Lynchburg and Nancy Farrar of Florida; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday February 27, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by Mr. Ted Book. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence, 816 Waterlick Road.
