SHEFFIELD
Bobby Clifton Sheffield Sr., 72, of Tappahannock, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at his residence. He was a former member of the Tappahannock Volunteer Rescue Squad. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy W. Sheffield; three children, Debbie Crawford of Mechanicsville, Bobby C. Sheffield Jr. of Laneview and Penny Peterson of Bunnlevel, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Norma Soper of Tappahannock; one brother, M.C. Sheffield of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Polly Perry of Newport News and Teddy Duck of Suffolk; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday in the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home. Interment Essex Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Riverside-Tappahannock Hospice or the Tappahannock Volunteer Rescue Squad.

SMITH
Ronald Stephen Smith, 41, of Varina went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 2, 2002 in Moore, Okla. while attending advanced instructor training at the FAA Academy. He worked with the FAA at the RIC and he served in the US Navy during the Beirut Conflict prior to joining the FAA. He was Past Vice President of Softball for the Varina Athletic Association, where he coached kids for many years and coached softball at Moody Middle School from 1999-2001 and was an assistant softball coach at Henrico High School this past season. He was founder and manager of the fast pitch softball team "The Lady Wolverines" of Varina and the team represented Virginia in Kansas in the U.S.S.S.A World Series. He was an avid golfer who belonged to an elite group "The Gator Guys" and devoted Boston Red Sox, Bruins and New England Patriots fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Tammy Harris Smith; three daughters, Stephanie C. Smith, Erica P. Smith and Courtney S. Smith, all of Varina. He is also survived by his parents, Ronald and Pauline Smith of West Newbury, Mass.; and three sisters and their husbands, Kim and Dale Smith, Kerry and Frank Donovan and Kristin and Jimmy Stefanile, all of New Hampshire; aunts, Fran Smith, Barbara Watts, Sharon Roney, Cindy Nalepa and Beverly Comuneli; five nephews, Gordon C. Smith, Kyle Stefanile, Phillip, Patric and Christopher Boggs; and one niece, Emily Smith; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Harris; brother-in-law, Robert Harris Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Susan K. Harris and Yvonne H. Harris, all of Buckingham County, Va. In addition there are many devoted and cherished friends who will surely miss him. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m Thursday. A funeral service will be conducted 12 noon Friday, June 7 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Varina with Internment at Washington Memorial Park. THOMAS
Arleen Elizabeth Ferguson Thomas, 81, of Midlothian, died Monday, June 3, 2002. She is survived by her former husband, Willard A. Thomas of Dillwyn, Va.; her son, Bill Thomas of Rocky Mount, N.C.; daughter, Carol T. and her husband, Richard A. Bolton of Midlothian; and a devoted friend, Walter R. Parker Jr. of Rocky Mount, N.C. Also survived by two grandchildren, B. Marshall Bolton II and Richard T. Bolton, both of Midlothian. Mrs. Thomas was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. WILLIAMSON
Mabel Plunkett Williamson of Richmond died on Sunday, June 2, 2002. She was the widow of Harry Collins Williamson. She is survived by her nephews, Mark E. Jarrett and his wife, Barbara; Charles Frederick Plunkett and Robert William Duff; and other extended family members. Mrs. Williamson was a retiree of the C&P Telephone Company and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. The family will receive friends at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, on Tuesday, June 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5 in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

WILLIS
Queenie P. Shaw Willis, 76, a retired beautician, of Richmond, departed this life Monday, June 3, 2002. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

WIRTH
Constance Crowe Wirth passed away on June 3, 2002 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Collins Wirth; her daughter, Ann Wirth Williams; granddaughter, Sarah Ramsaur McLean; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Anna McLean. Mrs. Wirth was the daughter of Sarah Trantam Crowe, an artist and gardener; and John Edward Crowe, a longtime employee of Alcoa and the Baden Electric Dam. Mrs. Wirth was a member of the faculty of Florida State University before her marriage. She served as a Staff Assistant for the American Red Cross and was stationed in Rome, Italy during the Second World War. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Woman's Club. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Home and as a member of the Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary Street Rd. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary Street Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226; or to the Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220; or the Virginia Museum Foundation, 2800 Grove Ave., Richmond, Va. 23221.

WOODEN
Miss Erinn V. Wooden, age 18, of 5110 Cool Hill Rd., Charles City (Providence Forge), died suddenly Monday evening, June 3, 2002 in Richmond. Remains rest at Tucker's Funeral Home. Arrangements to be announced by Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. A.A. Tucker, Funeral Director.

YEAMAN
Agnes Brafford Yeaman, 73, of 1475 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg, Va. died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Center, Harrisonburg, Va. She was born January 6, 1929 in Danville, Va. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Curtis Yeaman; and parents, Melvin Thomas Brafford and Louise Carter Hutcherson. Mrs. Yeaman lived most of her life in Colonial Heights, Va. and Danville, Va. and was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. She was a retired medical receptionist. She had been in declining health for a number of years. Survivors include her son, Herbert C. Yeaman Jr. and wife, Nancy Yeaman of Richmond, Va.; her daughter, Susan Yeaman Clark and husband, Ed Clark of Warrenton, Va.; and two grandchildren, Wendi B. Clark and George Edward Clark, both of Warrenton, Va. Funeral services will be held at Swicegood Funeral Home on Friday, June 7, 2002 at 11 a.m. Rev. Steve Carlton officiating. Graveside services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Chapter of the Arthritic Foundation, 3805 Cutshaw Ave., Suite 200, Richmond, Va. 23230.

Mrs. Brenda H. Banks of Richmond departed this life Monday, June 11, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Charles P. Banks; son, Chris Chappell Jr.; three grandchildren, Roddell Chappell, Krysta and Bria Day; mother, Frances Gay; two brothers, Kenneth and Walter Gay; three nieces, Diedre Coley, Savitri and Indra Gay; mother-in-law, Lizzie Banks; sister-in-law, Jacqueline H. Banks; brothers-in-law, Derrick and John (Pete) Banks; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 15, 4 p.m. at Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Rev. BOWSER
Roy Clyde Bowser, age 75, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001. He is survived by three sisters, Mildred Rosenberger, Rebecca Addison and Madeline McCellan; a dear friend, Vivian Bunn; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen. Interment will be in Fairview Lutheran Church Cemetery near Romney, W.Va.

BRIGGS
Catherine "Kitty" Davis Briggs, 81, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford N.C. She now joins her oldest daughter, Catherine "Kay" Briggs Magee. Born on August 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late D'Earcy Paul Davis and Laura Mae Joyner Davis, co-founders of the Virginia Diner in Wakefield, Va. Kitty was the original owner of the Crossroads Antiques Shop in Homeville, Va. and was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Barry "Doug" Douglas Briggs Sr. of Pittsboro, N.C., where the couple had retired after living many years in Wakefield, Va.; and her children, Barry Douglas Briggs Jr. and his wife, Jo Jackson Briggs of Pittsboro, N.C., Ann Briggs Lipscomb and her husband, David of Grayson, Ga., Don Alan Briggs and his wife, Ronetta of Richardson, Texas and Ellen Briggs Burton and her husband, Rodney of Chester, Va. Her grandchildren include D. Laine Magee, D. Michael Magee, Molly M. Dowless, Casey A. Lipscomb, Sarah D. Lipscomb, John B. Briggs, Catherine "Catie" Briggs, Zachary K. Briggs and Benjamin D. Briggs. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001 by Dr. James Becker of Wakefield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Virginia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 5001 W. Departed this life June 11, 2001, Mrs. Dovie S. Carson of 2038 W. Moore Street. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sandy Carson Sr. She is survived by three daughters, Venomia Talley, Patricia Liggans and Pamela Carson; five sons, Sandy Jr., Frank, Tyrone, Jerry and Martin Carson; 23 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Wansaee Mooney; several nieces, nephews and cousins, three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, two sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends, among them devoted, Margaret Brewer and Helena Brown. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Friday, 1 p.m. June 15, 2001 at St. Paul Baptist Church, where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Rev. CLARK
Mary J. Gusler Clark, 69, of Chesterfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2001. A native of Bland County, Va., she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel Moorehead Gusler. She was a retired employee of Philip Morris. Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband, Braddie A. Clark; three sons, David Arnold Clark, William Barry Clark, and M. Daniel Clark; three daughters, Freda Lynn Clark, Rebecca C. McKissie, and Beverly C. Martin; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Gusler of Bland County, Va.; a sister, Anna Lee Six of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
