Randolph "Pete" Peters

Randolph "Pete" Peters, 82, of Lynchburg, passed away Sun., Oct. 22, 2006 at his residence. For 50 years, he was the husband of the late Esther Irvin Peters, who passed away Mar. 13, 1999.

Born Mar. 27, 1924 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Reid Teddy Peters and the late Leona Via Peters. Pete served honorably with the US Marine Corp. during WWII and was retired from Lynchburg City Schools after 29 years as a craftsman and equipment supervisor. He was a member of Fairview Christian Church. Pete loved his family and enjoyed his friends.

He is survived by: one son, Dennis Wayne Peters and wife Suzanne of Lynchburg; two daughters, Sharon Peters Jones and husband Frank of Alexandria and Karen Lee Peters of Forest; and six grandchildren, John Stuart Peters and wife Beth of Nashville, TN, Phillip "Austin" Peters of Radford, William "Reid" Peters of Lynchburg, Andrea Jones, Mark Jones and Chris Jones all of Alexandria.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Fri., Oct, 27, 2006 at Presbyterian cemetery by the Rev. J. Monty Fox.

Family visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to please consider Hospice of the Hills, % Virginia Baptist Hospital, 3300 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503.

William Gilbert "Bill" Sutherland

William Gilbert "Bill" Sutherland, 73, of Madison Heights died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at his residence after a long illness. He was the husband of Virginia McIvor Sutherland.

Born in Bedford, July 22, 1929, he was a son of the late Benjamin Clark and Thelma Spradlin Sutherland. Mr. Sutherland received his Bachelor of Science degree from V.P.I. in 1950. He continued advanced studies at the University of Virginia and Lehigh University. He was an engineer with Globe Iron Construction Company of Norfolk and prior to that worked for Montague Betts for 42 years, and served as Senior Vice President of the company. Bill was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Carey G. Sutherland and his wife Alexandra of Fairfax, Dr. W. Mack Sutherland and his wife Melissa of Madison Heights; one daughter, Leigh S. McConaghy and her husband Sam of Madison Heights and eight grandchildren, Richard Sutherland, William Sutherland, Bryce Sutherland, Jenny Sutherland, Molly Sutherland, Ryan McConaghy, Griffin McConaghy and Collin McConaghy.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Tim Madison officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

The family request those wishing to make memorial contributions should consider the Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503.

Warren Wayne Cunningham

Warren Wayne Cunningham, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at the age of 57.

Born February 8, 1947 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James Bryant Cunningham, Sr., and the late Frances Sale Cunningham. He served his country in the Republic of South Vietnam with Co. A, 1st Bn. 52d Inf. 198 Inf. Bde. American Div. as a combat infantry rifleman from 1967-68. There he received two Purple Hearts and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, with Palm Unit Citation.

He was wonderful man, a proud father, and a great asset to the community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda C. Ragland.

He was a loving Dad to his children April 28, Tina 19, and Wayne 17. He is also survived by his siblings Mac, Jimmy, Dinky, and Pug.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. A military ceremony in his honor will be held on a later date at Arlington National cemetery.

We welcome you to come celebrate our Dad’s life with us from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. or from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., on Friday, March 19, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bryan/Wade Trust Fund or the Vietnam Veterans of America.

We LOVE you and you will always be with ALL of us.

Florence Cousins Martin

Florence Cousins Martin, 83, of Lynchburg, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home.

She was born April 29, 1921 in Harrisonburg, the daughter of the late George Burley Cousins and the late Helen Williams Cousins. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles S. Jones; her 2nd husband, James Howard Martin, Sr., and by a brother, Charles Cousins.

She is survived by four sons, Charles James Jones of Criders, John Russell Jones of Lynchburg, George William Jones of Mt. Jackson and Paul Lee Martin of Jarrett; two step-daughters, Nancy Lee Poe and Betty Jean Burleigh both of Lynchburg; two brothers, William Cousins, and John Cousins; two sisters, Virginia Martin of Madison Heights and Margaret Martin of Lynchburg; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2004 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by Rev. Danny Eubanks and Pastor Bill Evans. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

Family visitation will be Thursday from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her sister, Margaret, at 1336 Bedford Ave., Lynchburg.

Memorial contributions may be may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2571 Carter St., Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Magdalene “Maggie” Kudamik Elliott

Magdalene “Maggie” Kudamik Elliott, 80 of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, November 5, 2004. She was the wife of the late James Walter Elliott.

Born May 17, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Wendel and Magdalene Varosh Kudamik.

Mrs. Elliott had worked as a manager for Elliott’s Cleaners in Madison Heights and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Scott Elliott, a daughter, Patricia Tuggle and Five brothers.

Survivors include four children; James M. Elliott of Conroe, TX, Robert W. Elliott and wife JoJo of Amherst, JoAnn Clark of Myrtle Beach, SC and Paul Kummer of San Antonio, TX, one brother, Stephen Kudamik of Meridan, PA, two sisters; Mary K. Langa of Butler, PA and Ann K. Farnelli of Portersville, PA, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2004, at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church by the Reverend Jim Dorson. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Church prior to the service and at other times at the residence of Robert Elliott in Amherst.

William “Billy” Eugene Lloyd

William “Billy” Eugene Lloyd, 57, of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006. Arrangements are incomplete.

Whitten Monelison Chapel is assisting the family.

Edward Earl Arthur

Edward Earl Arthur, 84, of Lynchuburg, died Tuesday May 6, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was the husband of Mary White Arthur. Born October 31, 1918 in Bedford County, he was a son of the late Frank O. Arthur and Mary Jasper Arthur.

Mr. Arthur was a U.S.Navy veteran, serving during W.W. II, he retired as a route manager from Hill City Laundry, was a former member of the American Legion, and a long time member of Fairview Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, W. Samuel Arthur and Frank O. Arthur, Jr., and sisters, Mrs. Roland Phillips and Mrs. Florence Dooley.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2003 in Spring Hill cemetery, by the Rev. Robert Rueter, pastor of Fairview Christian Church, with military honors by the American Legion Post # 16.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. today, at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel, 1336 Park Ave., and at other times at the residence.

Rosely Irvin Brown

Rosely Irvin Brown, 79, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004.

Born June 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late H.C. “Buck” Brown, Sr. and Hattie Irvin Brown.

Survivors include a brother, H. Chapman Brown, Jr. and his wife Emily, two nephews; Chapman Brown, III of Gretna and Carlton L. Brown and wife Gina of Glen Allen, three great nieces; Lindsay, Tory and Mia as well as one great nephew, Grayson all of Glen Allen, many cousins as well as numerous friends at Hechts’.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Father Rush officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of H. Chapman and Emily Brown.

William Mallan Casey, Jr.

William Mallan Casey, Jr., 79, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, Mar. 8, 2006, at University of Virginia Hospital. He was the husband of Muriel Zimmerman Casey. Born in Lynchburg Oct. 19, 1926, he was the son of the late William Mallan Casey and Elizabeth Adams Casey. Mallan was an active member and Past Senior Warden of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Lynchburg Host Lion's Club, the Edward N. Eubank Lodge No. 262, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite and The Men's Central Virginia Horticultural Club. Mallan served his country as a Radar Technician in the U.S, Navy during World War II. He was the retired owner of Casey's Shoes after working many years with Coleman Shoe Co. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Carleton A. Casey and his wife, Andre'e of Houma, LA, William W. Casey of Lynchburg and David D. Casey and his wife, Ann of Rock Hill S.C.; five grandchildren, Carleton A. Casey, Jr., John W. Casey, Alexandra D. Casey, David D. Casey, Jr. and Joseph Mallan Casey. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 11, 2006 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Trinity Episcopal Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Mar. 10, 2006, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Huela Chapman Ramsey, Sr.

Huela Chapman Ramsey, Sr., 88, of Concord, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Eunice Marie Austin Ramsey for 59 years.

Born April 19, 1918 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late George and Vashti Pillow Ramsey. He was a retired electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers # 666 for more than 55 years. He was a United States Army WW II veteran and was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ramsey is survived by four children, Huela C. Ramsey, Jr. and his wife, Hisaye of Chesterfield, Donald “Dennis” Wayne Ramsey and his wife, Betty of Richmond, Rita R. Patterson and her husband, Donnie of Madison Heights, and Mark Ramsey of Colonial Heights; one brother, Durwood Ramsey and his wife, Judy of Charlotte Court House; two sisters, Gladys Mason of Sugarhill and Lelia Dean of Florida; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Grooms. Interment will follow in the Falling River Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at 196 Dog Trail in Concord.

Grace Inge Tolley

Grace Inge Tolley, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Everett Leslie Tolley.

Born December 9, 1914 in Appomattox County, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick Turner Inge and the late Alberta Doss Inge. Mrs. Tolley was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, and she had retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Co. and was a member of The Quarter Century Club.

Mrs. Tolley is survived by: two daughters; Joyce T. King and husband Courtney King, Sr. of Concord and Jean T. Patterson and husband David Patterson of Bedford, three grandchildren; Courtney King, Jr. of Lynchburg, Leslie Rock of Macon, GA and Scott King of Spout Spring, and two great grandchildren; Brittany King and Alex King.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at the Fort Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum by the Reverend Nolan R. Crowder.

Margaret Frances Linthicum Coleman

Margaret Frances Linthicum Coleman, 77, of Madison Heights, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of George Lee Coleman, Sr. for sixty years.

Born October 26, 1926 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. and Irma Dixon Linthicum. Mrs. Coleman was a retired Manager of Food Services with the Amherst County School System with twenty years of service and a member of Amelon United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Coleman.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Coleman is survived by three sons, G.L. Coleman, Jr. and his wife, Dianne, Ricky Coleman, and Jimmy Coleman and his wife, Valarie, all of Madison Heights; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004 in Spring Hill cemetery by Pastor Arthur L. Wolz, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jimmy and Valarie, 1348 Father Judge Road, Monroe.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Amelon U.M. Church, All Saints Bell Tower Fund, P.O. Box 739, Madison Heights, VA, 24572.
