Helen Hall Harris

Helen Hall Harris, 73, of Lynchburg, passed away Sat., Oct. 14, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Clarence Edward Harris.

Born Nov. 16, 1932 in Fries, VA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Thomas Hall and Rose Myers Hall, who survives her. She was a member of Jordan Baptist Church and had retired from Lynchburg General Hospital after 10 years of employment.

She was a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by one grandson, Dennis W. Wood; one brother, Paul T. Hall; and by one son-in-law, William F. Hubbard.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by: four daughters, Brenda K. Reynolds and husband Millard, Barbara A. Hubbard, Betty J. Donald and husband Tommy and Carolyn H. Davis and husband Joe; four brothers, Cecil D. Hall and wife Omi, James E. Hall and wife June, Douglas M. Hall and David L. Hall and wife Kathy; one sister, Inis Dunn and husband Carlton; one brother-in-law, Robert Harris and wife Hester; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tues., Oct. 17, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Melvin Campbell and Dr. Jim Moon. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m., today, at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Betty, at 2342 Fairview Ave., Lynchburg.

Ronald Adrian Cash

Ronald Adrian Cash, 61, of 160 Holly Lane, Madison Heights, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia Tomlin Cash for thirty-nine years.

Born July 9, 1941 in Amherst County, he was the son of Elizabeth Louise Cash of Monroe and the late Henry Malcolm Cash. Mr. Cash was retired from Wexco and was a former twenty-year employee of Lynchburg Foundry.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Preston Cash.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cash is survived by three daughters, Karen Denise Fulcher and her husband, David of Amherst, Elizabeth Ann (Beth) Cash and Jim Mays of Madison Heights, and Rhonda Cash Furrow and her husband, Jeff of Rustburg; two brothers, Malcolm Ray Cash of Madison Heights and Thomas Randolph Cash of Amherst; three sisters, Betty Cash Rooney and her husband, William of Springfield, Ohio, Sharon Cash Foster and her husband, David of Monroe, and Darlene Cash Wilson and her husband, Larry of Elon.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher Adrian Dunn, Patricia Leighann Fulcher, Angel Dawn Mays, Travis Randolph Fulcher, Jordan Taylor Furrow, and Presley Elizabeth Fulcher.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Robert Allen. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Monelison Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.

Arthur Edward Plogger

Arthur Edward Plogger, 63, of Old Courthouse Tpke., Lot 115, Lynchburg, died Friday, July 9, 2004 in the University of Virginia Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn McCalister Plogger.

Mr. Plogger was born May 10, 1940 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late William Richard and Gracie Hostetter Plogger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Marie Plogger

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Libby Murray, Charles Plogger, and Arthur Lee Plogger, all of Lynchburg; two brothers, Junior E. Plogger and Bill Plogger, both of Lexington; one sister, Josephine Hazelwood, also of Lexington; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Whitten Timberlake Chapel is serving the family.

Nell Davis Harris

Nell Davis Harris, 86, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday November 3, 2004 atGuggenheimer Nursing Facility. She was the widow of Woodrow Wilson Harris.

Born May 17, 1918, in Union, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Willard M. and Mary Riggs Davis.

Mrs. Harris retired from Central Virginia Training Center and later worked at the Oddfellows Home, she was a member of the Rebekahs Home Lodge # 41, the L.A.P.M. #16 and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her children, Brenda Browning and her husband Guy Browning, Jr. and Fred L. Casey and his wife Faye Casey; a sister, Carrie Davis Turner, all of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday November 5, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Hooper officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her daughter Brenda’s home, 108 Village Road, Lynchburg.

Mrs. Harris’s family would like send a special thanks to the staff of Guggenheimer Nursing Facility for all the love, kindnesses and excellent care given during her stay there.

Peggy Yvonne Woods Harris

Peggy Yvonne Woods Harris, 59, of Lynchburg, passed away, Friday, March 3, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Garland Gerald Harris, Jr.

Born September 20, 1946 in Burlington, NC, she was the daughter of the late Silas Jack Woods and the late Bessie Reeves Woods. She was manager of the Lynchburg Waffle House for 20 years prior to her illness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: Anthony Harris of Rustburg, Selena Pitts and husband Christopher and Travis Harris both of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Amber, Brad, Samantha, Lee, Kylie and Zoey; one great granddaughter, Rheagan; three sisters; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Carlton Duck.

Family visitation will be Monday, from 5 – 7 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home and at other times at the family residence.

Elsie Aultice Carter

Elsie Aultice Carter, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away, Sunday, October 15, 2006 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert Edward Carter.

Born June 30, 1921 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Leslie and Luvenia Hurt Aultice. She was retired from General Electric and was a member of Southview United Methodist Church.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mac Aultice and Warren Aultice, two sisters, Pattie Robertson and Janie Conway and a grandson, Aubrey Falwell, Jr.

Mrs. Carter is survived by three sons, Ronald E. Carter and his wife, Joyce, of Garland, TX, Tim “Tiny” L. Carter and his wife, Cindy, of Lynchburg, and Jerry A. Carter and his wife, Carolyn, of Dover, DE, and a daughter, Angel Moore and her husband, Tim, of Forest; three step-daughters, Ineta C. Bradley, of Lynchburg, Margaret Falwell, of Forest and Billie June Sublett and her husband, Harry, of Lynchburg; step-son, David E. Carter and his wife, Janie of Humble, TX; brother, Frank Aultice and his wife, Ruth, of Lynchburg; two sisters, Doshie Martin of Huddleston and Lindy Collins and her husband, Jack of Lynchburg; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel by the Rev. George Riggins. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Hazel Guill Austin

Hazel Guill Austin, 79, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Ernest Morgan Austin who passed away in 1993.

Born December 13, 1923 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late James Guill and the late Janie Guill. She had retired from General Electric in 1985 after 30 years of employment.

She is survived by: a daughter; Carolyn Garrett of Lynchburg, a son; Larry Austin and wife Patricia, four grandchildren; Dawn Hamilton and husband Patrick of Big Island, Wayne Garret of Rustburg, Matthew and Christopher Austin both of Columbia, SC and a great granddaughter; Kimberley Pringle of Big Island.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Reverend Sidney B. Wade.

Friends may visit from 7 – 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and at other times at the family home, 202 Macon St., Lynchburg.

Edna Worley May Rice

Edna Worley May Rice, 91, of 1694 Callahan Street, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at her home. Twice married , she was the wife of the late Oscar Edward May and the late Oliver Guy Rice.

Born October 23, 1912 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late James Madison and Willie Copley Jones Worley. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Rice was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Amherst. .

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Worley and Clifford Worley and three sisters, Lillie Bell W. Cousin, Cora W. Mays, and Ruby W. Jones.

Mrs. Rice is survived by one son, Oscar J. May of Madison Heights; two daughters, Louise M. White of Lynchburg and Joan M. Bradbury of Christiansburg; one step-daughter, Thelma M. Myers of Mt. Union, PA; two nieces, Copley Kemper and Gladys Jones; two nephews, Gene Worley and Robert Worley; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights by the Rev. Dave Peters. Interment will follow in Amherst cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mollie Slough Abbott

Mollie Slough Abbott, 86, of Evington died Friday, March 3, 2006 at her residence. She was the wife of the late James Vernon Abbott.

Born in Buckingham County, August 11, 1919, she was a daughter of the late John William and Katie Alberta Bowen Slough. She was a retired seamstress with Virginia Sportswear and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, one son, William D. Abbott and two daughters, Etta Mae Abbott and Marylin A. Dunn preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, James Edward Abbott and her daughter, Catherine A. Dudley and her husband Willard all of Evington; one brother, Dan Slough of Appomattox and one sister, Lillian S. Hobbs of Alabama; her son in law, John M. Dunn and daughter in law, Marie Abbott both of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren a very special niece, Shirley Reynolds and very special friend, Helen Dudley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 Monday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Danny Eubank and the Rev. Woody Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

John Philip Clisham

John Philip Clisham, 76, of Forest, died Thursday, October 11, 2006 in Lynchburg General Hospital. For twenty-one years, he was the beloved husband of Alberta Martin Clisham.

Born January 1, 1930 in Columbus, NY, he was a son of the late Bernard F. and Gladys Bartlett Clisham. Mr. Clisham was a retired manager with General Electric with thirty-seven years of service and a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran, where he served in the Korean War. Mr. Clisham was a member of The Kirk.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary P. Clisham and one sister.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Clisham is survived by two daughters, Carol C. Newman of Durham, NC and Cindy C. Oatman and her husband, Tom of Woodbridge; one brother, Richard Clisham of Cassville, NY; six grandchildren, Britney Clisham, Leah Clisham, Jason Newman, Joseph Newman, Travis Oatman, and Alexia Oatman and a great-grandson, Thomas Oatman.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Jim Dellert and the Rev. Nancy White. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
