Ruby Mildred Pribble

Ruby Mildred Pribble, 93, of Lynchburg, passed away, Sunday, June 27, 2004.

Born in Amherst County, June 10, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Ella Bethel. Mrs. Pribble retired from the Central Virginia Training Center and was a member of Poplar United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Ernest Gregory Pribble, preceded her in death as well as two brothers, Robert Alexander Bethel and Roy Edward Bethel; three sisters, Nena Ann B. Moore, Sadie Bethel and Louise Bethel.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Ruby B. Bethel of Amherst and Rosa Lee Saunders of Norton; nine nieces and nephews, Carrie B. Davila, Roberta B. Mays, Jerome Robert Bethel, all of Amherst, Beth Styles Pierce of Williamsburg and Patricia B. Daniel of Norton, Roy Bethel of Reston, Irene Moore Turner of Martinsville, Susan Moore Perry of Hardy and Lockie Monroe Beverly of Madison Heights, sixteen grand nieces and nephews and ten great grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, by the Reverend Gary Shelton. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Poplar United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 635 Amherst, VA 24521.

Ruth Perkins Carson

Ruth Perkins Carson, 81, of Cullen, died Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born July 13, 1923 in Farmville, she was the daughter of the late George Perkins and the late Pearl Jones Perkins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carson was preceded in death by her 1st husband, George F. Ziegler, Sr., in 1963; her 2nd husband, Charles Cecil Carson in 1999; her son, George F. "Ricky" Ziegler, Jr. in October of 2004; and by four brothers and sisters.

She is survived by five children: Margaret Kirkpatrick and husband Clifford of Forest, William Ziegler and wife Marie of Roanoke, Norma Kirby and husband Earl of Powhatan, Ann Howell and husband Frankie of Gretna, and Gayle Phelps and husband Charles of Richmond; and daughter-in-law, Pat Ziegler of Lynchburg; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter; and five brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502 by the Rev. Carl Weiser.

Friends and family may visit at the funeral home, following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or the Charlotte County Rescue Squad.

The family is being assisted by Whitten Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel, 434-239-0331.

Amy Marie Mattox

Amy Marie Mattox, infant daughter of Richard Lewis Mattox and Jessica Ryan Sensabaugh, was born February 23, 2006 and passed away February 23, 2006 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Survivors also include paternal grandparents, Rhodna Mattox and Lane Patterson, both of Lynchburg and maternal grandparents, Patricia Sensabaugh and Paul Sensabaugh, both of Madison Heights; uncles, Freddie Sensabaugh, Jonathan, Michael, and David Mattox; aunts, Krystle, Stephanie, Michelle, Jennifer and Grace Mattox, and a host of other relatives.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the Lynchburg City cemetery, by the Rev. Nancy Purcell.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, at 1115 Moseley Dr., in Lynchburg.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Richard and Jessica at, 1115 Moseley Dr. Lynchburg, 24502.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Park Avenue Chapel is assisting the family.

James David Drinkard

James David Drinkard, 64, of 233 Old Wright Shop Road, Madison Heights, died Friday, April 18, 2003 in the University of Virginia Hospital. He was the husband of LaVerne Casey Drinkard for almost 43 years.

Born October 25, 1938 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William Leslie and Beulah Smith Drinkard. He was a mold technician with Parker Powertrain with more than thirty years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Post #274. Mr. Drinkard was a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Drinkard is survived by one son, David E. Drinkard and his fiance’, Kelly Crews of Madison Heights.

A graveside service with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Meade cemetery by the Rev. Terry L. Wornstaff.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

Guy William Jordan

Guy William Jordan, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, June 25, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kathy Shaver Jordan.

He was born January 22, 1914 in Campbell County, the son of the late Samuel Lee Jordan and the late Eva Irene Mayberry Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a long time member of Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene and had helped in many avenues of his church. He had retired from Empire Furniture, Gallipolis, OH after 30 years of employment and prior to that had worked for Appalachian Power in VA, FL, OH and WV. He served his country with the US ARMY during WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 16. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Joan Haskins; four sisters, Marian Smith, Lucille Mitchell, Margaret Ann Caldwell and Gracie Kersey; and by four brothers, Bill Jordan, Jack Jordan, Perry Jordan and Buddy Mack Jordan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother Elmer Clyde Jordan of Lynchburg; a sister, Inez Cox of Lynchburg; his mother-in-law, Pauline Shaver of Gallipolis, OH; two grandchildren Vicki Swindler and husband Norm and Richard Haskins; two great grandchildren, Amber Burtrum and husband Cole and Nathan Swindler and wife Jencie; and two great, great grandchildren, Tianna Burtrum and Colton Burtrum.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 28, 2004 at Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene by Pastor Stephen Willis. Interment, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 16, will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the family residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene Expansion Fund, 1737 Wards Ferry Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Jack Dexter Wallace

Jack Dexter Wallace, 78 of Madison Heights, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005. He was the husband of 56 years to Lurlene Dodd Wallace.

Born January 30, 1926, in High Point, NC, he was a son of the late Poindexter and Dora Landreth Wallace. Mr. Wallace was a United States Navy WW II Veteran. He was retired from Griffin Pipe Company after 37 years of service and was a member and former Deacon and Usher of the Randolph Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Joseph D. Wallace and wife Laura and Kenneth L. Wallace and wife Sandra both of Lynchburg, four grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, Stephanie and Brian Wallace, three step-grandchildren, Jenny, Lauren and Jack Bottoms, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Annie Jamerson Campbell

Annie Jamerson Campbell, 87, formerly of Amherst, died Monday, March 28, 2005 in Riverside Regional Convalescent Center in Newport News. She was the wife of the late Wiley Edward Campbell.

Born June 4, 1917 in Appomattox County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Watkins Jamerson and Roberta McCormick Jamerson. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Elaine Campbell; three sisters, Thelma J. Thornhill, Elsie J. Lucado, and Christine J. Daniel and three brothers, Carlton Jamerson, Melvin Jamerson, and Raymond Jamerson.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by two sons, W. Danny Campbell of Amherst and Michael E. Campbell of Burlington, NC; one daughter, Carolyn C. Cox and her husband, David of Williamsburg; one sister, Margaret J. Payne of Richmond; five grandchildren, Shawn D. Cox, Jonathan C. Cox and his wife, Kathy, Anna Elizabeth Cox, Chasity C. Cantelmo and her husband, Andrew, and Christopher M. Campbell and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. John Gordon and the Rev. William Dawson. Interment will follow in Amherst cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, Danny, 144 Pine Street, Amherst.

Louis Allen Napier

He fought the battle of battles with the courage only a man who walks with God knows. God called this precious angel home on February 22, 2006. Louis Allen Napier, departed this life at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. Louis was born April 29, 1951 in Appomattox County, a son of the late Deacon Charlie Napier and the late Lucille Abbitt Napier. He was a member of Mt. Obed Baptist Church and a devoted employed by Seven Hills Auto Sales. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Napier and a sister, Nancy Napier. Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Louis Davis (Kim) of Lynchburg, CS2 Clarence (Tasha) and Terese Davis of Norfolk and three grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Ella Davis (Frank), and Carrie Johnson (Carl) of Lynchburg, Fannie Morgan (James) of Pamplin, Stella Davis (Johnny) of Appomattox; four brothers, James and Clarence Napier of Lynchburg, Charlie Napier (Rosa) of Appomattox, Paul Napier (Nancy) of Charlotte Court House; an uncle, Owen Napier and his wife of Bedford; many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and his devoted and loving best friends, Jim Curtis, Carol Tyree, and their families. A funeral service and celebration of Louis' life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2006, at Mt. Obed Baptist Church, Stonewall, with Pastor Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister Carrie Johnson, Garden Park Ave., Jim and Carol's home, Fort Ave., and on Saturday, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Whitten Park Ave. We would like to send our heart-felt thanks to the dedicated staff of U.VA. Hospital, Charlottesville, especially the Spinal Center, 6th West, for their excellent care, love, and for the devotion given to Louis during his illness.

Tony Michael Branham

Tony Michael Branham, 40, of Lynchburg, died Friday, April 18, 2003 in Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Born July 20, 1962 in Lynchburg, he was the son of George P. Branham, Sr. and Essie B. Branham of Lynchburg. Tony was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Mission, Amherst County.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Kimbley Dawn Branham of Madison Heights; two brothers, George Preston Branham, Jr. and Herbert Donald Branham and one sister, Sarah Stevens, all of Lynchburg; one granddaughter, Kelsey Kathleen King of Madison Heights; four nephews, David Michael Stevens, Nicholas Chance Stevens, George Preston Branham, III, and Travis Edward Campbell; two nieces, Morgan Elaine Branham and Auora Stevens and devoted friends, Theresa Qualls, Tony Vaughan, and Randy Mawyer.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. B. Lloyd. Interment will follow in St. Paul's cemetery, Amherst County.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of his parents, 704 Euclid Ave., Lynchburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Marjorie Putney Litchford

Marjorie Putney Litchford, 78, of 994 Elon Road, Madison Heights died Thursday, June 24, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born February 18, 1926 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Eliza Lawford Litchford. She was a retired Office Manager with Barker-Jennings Corp. and a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Madison Heights.

Miss Litchford is survived by one brother, John R. “Jack” Litchford and one sister, Ann L. Loving and her husband, Elmer H. Loving, all of Madison Heights; one niece, Beth Nelsen and her husband, Lou; two nephews, Sandy Loving and his wife, Becky and Greg Loving and his wife, Jennifer; one great-niece and four great nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Monday, June 28, 2004 at Elon Presbyterian cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Meredith.

Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Madison Heights by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Meredith.

The family will receive friends at the church, following the memorial service

Hubert Dillard Hamlett, Sr.

Hubert Dillard Hamlett, Sr., 77 of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, December 31, 2004 at his residence. He was the husband of Peggy Moore Hamlett.

Born May 18, 1927, in Charlotte County, he was a son of the late James Frank Hamlett and Florence Jackson Hamlett. Mr. Hamlett was retired from Standard Coffee Company where he worked as a salesman for over 20 years and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Newcomb.

In addition to his wife survivors include a son, H. Dillard Hamlett, Jr. and a daughter, Debbie Foster and husband Bob both of Madison Heights, two sisters, Mildred Gaines of Appomattox and Doris Childress of Lynchburg, a brother, Sam Hamlett and wife Peggy of Evington, two grandchildren, Brandy and Nathan Foster, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. today, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Gerald Wade "Jerry" Marsh, Jr.

Gerald Wade "Jerry" Marsh, Jr., 76, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia Louise McDowell Marsh for 54 years. Born September 11, 1929 in Roanoke, he was a son of the late Gerald Wade Marsh, Sr. the late Virginia Gray Marsh Wiggins and her late husband, George P. Wiggins. Jerry retired as a District Manager for G. T. E. with 40 years of service, he was a 50 year, 32 degree Mason and was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife Sylvia, he was the devoted father of Steven W. Marsh of Ft. Wayne, IN and Gregory A. Marsh and his wife Sherry of Lynchburg; also surviving is a sister, Nancy E. Friend and her husband Clifford of Ft. Wayne, IN; a step-brother, Roger M. Wiggins and his wife Florence of La Jolla, CA; two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2006 at Rivermont Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Mabray and the Rev. Glen Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rivermont Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Monroe, or the Lupus Foundation of America, Rockville, MD 20850.
