DON MCDILDA SR.
Donald Miletus McDilda Sr., 78, died May 9, 2009 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce, Fla.
He was born in Dunbar, the large family settled in Wise County.
He lived in Florida for the past 40 years.
A graveside gathering was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap.
Local VFW members conducted military services.

EUGENE ‘ED’ IRESON
Eugene Dedrick “Ed” Ireson Jr., 79, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Saturday (June 27, 2009).
Born in Wise County, on July 5, 1929, he moved to Cross Creek, Fla., in 1979, where he resided for 25 years.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 1, at 6 p.m. at The Church By The Sea in Madeira Beach.

JIMMY RAY DEAN
Jimmy Ray Dean, 55, of Norton, died Monday (June 29, 2009) at his home.
Born to Claude and Pauline Jackson Dean, he was a lifelong resident of the Norton area.
Burial was at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Gardner Family cemetery on Guest River.

WILLIE E. LAWSON
Willie E. “Popcorn Eddie” Lawson, 66, passed away Sunday (June 27, 2009).
Born in Stephens, he had been a Newport News resident for 48 years.
The family received friends 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 30, 2009) at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton.
A service to celebrate Eddie’s life was at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.
Interment was in Southlawn Memorial Park in Petersburg at 11 a.m. Thursday.

BILLY G. COCHRAN
Billy Gene Cochran, 78, died on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009.
Born in Dickenson County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Corbett and Vesta (Edwards) Cochran of Bartlick.
He was a 1950 graduate of Haysi High School.
Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak, Fla., was in charge of the arrangements.

FAYE G. HILL
Faye Gay Hill, 69, of Elijah and Susie Road, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Celia Stilwell Ratliff.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at Haysi Funeral Home with Danny Sluss officiating.
Burial will follow in the Everett and Elizabeth Davis cemetery, Clintwood.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with an evening service at 7 p.m. with Roy Lee Wilson officiating.

HASSEL O. COLEMAN
Hassel Omer Coleman, 72, of Lovers Gap Road, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at his home.
Born Jan. 13, 1937 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Hufford and Polly Deel Coleman.
A service was held at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the church.

HAL D. ROBINSON
Hal Dean Robinson, 53, departed his earthly life Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Born Aug. 3, 1955 in Sandlick and raised there, he was a son of Justine and the late Collin Robinson.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Toby Bailey officiating.
Burial followed in the Robinson cemetery, Birchleaf.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.

JAMES T. MONAHAN
James “Tom” Thomas Monahan, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2009 at Mountain View Regional Hospital, Norton.
He moved to Dickenson County in the 1940s, where he became an active member of Dwale Community Church and served as a pastor and a deacon for 60 years.
Family received friends at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel at 6 p.m. on March 14, 2009.
A song service followed at 7 p.m. with the Dwale Church singers.
Funeral services were held March 15, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel by Darrell Milgrim, Tommy Austin, Doug Stone and Palmer Leftwich officiating.
A graveside service followed at Artrip cemetery, Clintwood.

PAUL ROSE
Paul Rose, 84, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Heritage Hall Health Care Center, Clintwood.
He was born Dec. 30, 1924, the son of the late Robert and Susie Rose.
He was a coal miner from the age of 13, and retired with the Honey Camp Coal Company.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Mullins officiating.
Burial followed in the McFall cemetery, Osborne Gap community.

TOY BRYANT
Toy Bryant, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
He was a retired coal miner, member of UMWA Local 8939 and a veteran of the Korean War.
He was of the Baptist faith and was baptized in 1996.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009 with Manie Strouth and Danny Strouth officiating.
A military graveside ceremony followed at Temple Hill Memorial Garden and was conducted by Clintwood’s VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35, American Legion Post 227 and the National Honors Team.

ANTHONY “TONY” FLEMING
Anthony “Tony” Fleming, age 39, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his birth father Patton Fleming.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Emmanuel Old Regular Baptist Church on Big Ridge.
Funeral services followed at 7 p.m. with Brothers Jerry Wilson, Carvel Edwards, Eddie Newsome, David O’Quinn, and Toby Bailey officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Hill family cemetery located on Caney Ridge.

ETHEL R. ANDERSON
Ethel Riggs Anderson, 94, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Holston Manor, Kingsport, Tenn., following a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted by Pastor John Price at 12 p.m.
Burial was held at Phipps Memorial cemetery next to her husband and son.
Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.
