Dorothy Finney
Mrs. Dorothy Eloise Stull Snodgress Finney, age 92, loving mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother, finished her journey here on Earth and
went home to the loving arms of our Lord on May 24, 2004.
Mrs. Finney was born November 5, 1911, in Eagle Rock, the daughter of
the late Edgar William and Mamie Ruth Wilhelm Stull. She was a member of
the Rich Patch Union Church but attended Oak Hill Baptist Church in her
later years. Prior to moving to Clifton Forge, she operated a dairy farm in
Rich Patch with her late husband.
Mrs. Finney was the last surviving member of her family.
Left behind to mourn her passing are her son and daughter-in-law,
Hollis and Sharon Snodgress of Spencer, W.Va.; daughter and son-in-law,
Sandra and George Fridley of Rich Patch; daughter Carletta "Jeannie"
Hayslett of Clifton Forge; step-sons and daughters-in-law Charles and
Dreama Finney of Berryville and Edward and Bonnie Finney of Edenton, N.C.;
and stepdaughter Diane Finney Murphy of N.C. Four sisters-in-law, Waneta
Hoover of Harrisville, W.Va., Mildred "Pete" Stull of Rich Patch, Ellen
Keyser Stull of Clifton Forge and Margaret Finney Terrell of Richmond; 15
granddaughters, Robin, Becky, Renee, Holly, Tammy, Terry, Mitzi, Sherry,
Tracy, Michelle, Belinda, Teresa, Heather, Christy and Olivia; 18
grandsons, Bobby, Brian, Todd, Tommy, Ray, Rodney, Rick, J.D., Dallas,
Donnie, Bryan, Shawn, Eric, Keith, Zach, David, Patrick and Todd; 44
great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also left
behind is her very special gift from God, her little kitten,
"Angel-Kitty-Cat."
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Edgar Snodgress in
1971 and Alvin Sang Finney in 1986; her daughter, Patty Ann Snodgress in
1940; three brothers, Odell Stull, Earl Stull and Ernest Stull; and a
great-granddaughter, Krista Armentrout, in 1986.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. from the chapel
of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Bush officiating. Pallbearers
will be Bobby Fridley, Brian Hayslett, Todd Hayslett, Tommy Hayslett, Bryan
Snodgress, Rick Snodgress, Woody Wilson, Ellis Stull and Todd Finney.
Interment will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery. The family will receive
friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home
or at other times at the residence, 1504 Cedar St., Clifton Forge, Va.,
24422.
Loving Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Billy Manion
CLIFTON FORGE - Ermal Billy Manion, 72, of Liberty House Nursing Home,
Clifton Forge, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at the nursing home.
He is survived by his friends at Liberty House Nursing Home.
A graveside service was conducted this morning at 10 a.m. at Mountain
View cemetery in Clifton Forge with the Rev. John Carrier officiating.

Maxine Nicely
CLIFTON FORGE - Maxine May Nicely, 67, of 5419 Longdale Furnace Rd.,
Clifton Forge, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.
She was born October 23, 1936, in Covington, a daughter of the late
Charles P. and Wilda Wheeler May.
Mrs. Nicely was a homemaker, a member of the Longdale United Methodist
Church and was a member of the United Transportation Union Auxiliary.
She is survived be her husband of 45 years, Larry Linwood Nicely of
Clifton Forge, one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Kelly of
Perrysburg, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry H. and Karen
Nicely of Perrysburg, Ohio; three sisters, Nancy Hepler of Crows, Ada
Bradshaw of Covington and Jean Coggsdale of Fla.; three brothers, Burke May
of Covington, Charles May of Toledo, Ohio, and Homer May of Lynchburg;
three grandchildren, Matthew Nicely, Katlin Nicely and William Kelly; and a
number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a
step-brother, Chuck May.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Nicely
Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Gregory officiating. Interment
will follow in the Central Advent Christian cemetery, Clifton Forge.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. until
8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Rick Bradshaw, Darryl Nicely, Wilson Nicely,
Mike Kelly, Matthew Nicely and Chuck Hepler.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of
contributions to the Longdale United Methodist Church, 121 Church Rd.,
Clifton Forge, Va., 24422, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Blue Ridge
of Virginia Chapter, 2728 Colonial Ave., SW, Suite 2, Roanoke, Va., 24015.

Lois Barger

FINCASTLE - Lois F. Barger, 80, of 7908 Botetourt Rd., Fincastle, Va.,
went home to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, July 13, 2004, at Lewis Gale
Medical Center in Salem.

She was born October 22, 1923 in Botetourt County, a daughter of the
late David Preston and Lula Olive Wilhelm Barger.

Mrs. Barger was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Clifton Forge.

She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie B. Mayo of Fincastle and
Pat Harrelson of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Timothy E. Mayo, Tamera
Gish, Steven A. Mayo, Jason N. Harrelson and Jeremy D. Harrelson; eight
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Everette Wilson "Hueit" Barger; one daughter, Connie K. Barger; one sister,
Leda Young; and five brothers, Ray, Thurman, Dallas, Carl and Collins
Barger.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Immanuel
Baptist Church, Clifton Forge, with the Revs. Bill Dillon, Fred Fryar and
Jim Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Grove Baptist
cemetery, Eagle Rock.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Mayo, Steven Mayo, Jason Harrelson, Jeremy
Harrelson, Daniel Gish and John Barger.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marion Nicely, Bobby Bradberry, Ernest
Noel, Brad Day, "Doc" Thompson and Doug Donivan.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until 9
p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes take the
form of contributions to the Gideon Memorial Bible Chairman, P.O. Box 942,
Lexington, Va., 24450; or the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2819
Douthat Rd., Clifton Forge, Va., 24422.

Jack Martin

Hobert H. "Jack" Martin, 80, of 2319 S. Munford Ave., died Wednesday,
July 14, 2004, at his residence.

He was born July 14, 1924, at Cornwall in Rockbridge County, the son of
the late Robert and Murry Clark Martin.

Mr. Martin was employed by Team Carriers Inc. for 56 years as a truck
driver and then as a truck trainer for the last two years. He was an avid
fisherman.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Vint Martin of Covington; a daughter,
Murray Michelle Martin and fiance, Rodney Holloway, of Covington; a special
step-daughter, Karen Groves of Clifton Forge; step-daughters Pauline Rowan
and husband, Carl, of Eagle Rock and Deborah Groves of Covington; a
step-son, James Kitt of Clifton Forge; a very special grandson, Nathaniel
Andrew Holloway of Covington; seven step-grandchildren and two
great-granddaughters.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday morning at 11
a.m. at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Ron Borer. Those wishing to
attend Mr. Martin's
service may assemble at Arritt Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The
family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at
the funeral home.

Ronnie McMullen

HOT SPRINGS - Ronnie McMullen, 69 of Hot Springs, lost his courageous
battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord July 15, 2004.

Mr. McMullen was born November 25, 1934, in Bath County, the son of the
late Charles Franklin and Edith Accord McMullen.

Mr. McMullen was retried from The Homestead after 40 years of
service. He was a member of the Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church,
Warm Springs Masonic Lodge No. 265, a past member of the Bath County School
Board, a charter member of the Bath County Cancer Support Group and worked
with Relay for Life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and
was an avid golfer and trout fisherman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Carolyn Burns McMullen
of Hot Springs; his children, Mike McMullen and wife, Jane, of Frost, W.Va,
and Julie Dean and husband, Paul, of Hot Springs; three brothers, Clarence
F. McMullen and Arthur McMullen, both of Hot Springs, and Conley A.
McMullen of Vinton; a sister, Estaline Bower of Hot Springs; four
grandchildren, Mikayla and Karleigh McMullen of Frost, Austin Dean of Hot
Springs and Dalton Knight of Crozet; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Madie G. McMullen, Noel Plecker
and Wyatt Burns.

At Mr. McMullen's request, his remains were cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Virginia
Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debbie Carey and the Rev. Tom
Stanley officiating.

The family will receive their friends Saturday from 7 p.m. until 8:30
p.m. at Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Virginia
Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Charlotte May, P.O. Box 116, Hot
Springs, Va., 24445; or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Janice Webb,
Rt. 2, Box 509, Hot Springs, Va., 24445.

John Conner
GLEN WILTON - John W. Conner, 81, of Glen Wilton, died Friday, October 8, 2004, at his residence.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are being handled by
Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.

John Georges
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - John Everett Georges, 71, of Charlotte, N.C., died
Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at his residence in Charlotte.
He was born October 20, 1932, in Sheyboyghan, Mich., a son of the late
Everett Whiting and Agnes Michalka Georges.
A private graveside service will be conducted with the Rev. Dan
Gillette officiating.
Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Curry

Donald Woodrow Curry Jr., 47, of 448 S. Raymond Ave., died Sunday, Dec.
4, 2004, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

Mr. Curry was born Nov. 13, 1957, in Alleghany County, a son of Donald
W.Curry Sr. and Wanda McLain Curry of Clifton Forge.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Arritt
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Burnham officiating. Interment will
be in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Wright, Donnie Adams, Gary Griffith, Gerry
Gibson Sr., Gerry Gibson Jr., Pat Hiler, Paul Craft and James Smith.

Friends may pay their respects any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The
family will receive friends at the residence in Asbury Park at any time.

The family suggests that memorial donations in Mr. Curry's name be made
to the American Lung Association, 9221 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va.
23235.

Jim Gilbert

James C. "Jim" Gilbert, 75, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died Friday, Dec. 3,
2004, in Elcentro, Calif.

He was the husband of Doris Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Covington, a son of the late
Harry Gilbert and Leola Gilbert Easter.

In accordance with Mr. Gilbert's wishes, he was cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted in Hawaii at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial tributes to Mr. Gilbert take the form of
contributions to Boys' Home, 306 Boys' Home Rd., Covington, Va.
