Lillie Pullen

Lillie Mae Pullen, of Sperryville died Friday, August 23, 2002, at her home after a long period of declining health. She was 83, the widow of the late Clyde William Pullen, who died in February 1999. Mrs. Pullen was born January 28, 1919, in the Gid Brown Hollow section of Rappahannock County at her father's home which was taken as part of Shenandoah National Park. She was the daughter of the late Thomas "Boot" Dwyer and his late wife, Emily Burke Dwyer. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Pullen was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas J. and Edward O. Dwyer, two sisters, Bessie D. Bailey and Helen Louise Dwyer, and one great grandchild, Bobby Smoot, Jr. Mrs. Pullen was the last member of her immediate family and the last of her generation in the Dwyer family. Mrs. Pullen when of the tender age of nine lost her mother and she was then guided by the hands of local motherly females in learning domestic duties. United in Holy Matrimony in 1935, she and her late husband were married for more than 63 years. Lillie had several talents, among which was her ability to make braided rugs. Many sizes, shapes and colors she made and sold in all parts of the country and some overseas. Her rugs were distinguished in that she "hooked" them rather than sewed them, they then could be used on either side. She had been known as "the Rug Maker of Rappahannock." Her survivors include six children and their spouses: Mrs. Florine Baldwin and husband, Charley of Slate Mills, John W. Pullen and his wife, Dorothy of Boston, David L. Pullen, Sr. and his wife, Anna of Sperryville, Clyde M. Pullen and his wife, Betty of Washington, Roy L. Pullen, Sr. and his wife Frances also of Washington and Mrs. Kathy Pullen and her husband, Ray of Sperryville. Additional survivors include sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, five great step-grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lorene Dwyer of Sperryville and Mrs. Alice Beahm of Washington, VA, and a host of other friends and relatives also survive her. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 26, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John K. Burke and Pastor Tim Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wayne Baldwin, David Pullen, Jr., Duane Pullen, Roy Pullen, Jr., Thomas Pullen, Phillip Pullen, Daniel Pullen and Robert Baldwin. Contributions may be made to the Washington Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Washington, VA 22747 and/or the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 178, Sperryville, VA 22740. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

Merlin Paulson

Mr. Merlin Paulson, 78 of Fredericksburg died Friday December 6, 2002 at his home. Merlin retired from the Army as Sergeant First Class after 20 years of faithful service. For most of his career, Merlin worked as a Photographic Lab Specialist. He served during WWII in North Africa, Italy and in the Korean conflict where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. He is survived by his wife, Cleo B. Paulson; three daughters, Sonja M. Vallejos of Fairfax, Mary Ann Nixon, Cynthia Diane Titus both of Fredericksburg; four sons, David M. Paulson of North Carolina, Michael Von Paulson of Centreville, Richard Earl Paulson of Warrenton, Robert Eric Paulson of Manassas; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg from 6:00 to 9:00pm. A funeral will be held at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 12:00pm with the Rev. Richard A. Headley officiating. Interment will follow in Quantico National cemetery at 2:00pm.

Arthur Jones

Mr. Arthur Rawleigh Jones, 72 of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Mary Washington Hospital. Arthur retired as a tire mechanic for Little Tire after 26 years. He is survived by three nieces, three nephews and his companion of 18 years, Mildred Sullivan. The family will receive friends at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Fredericksburg on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Found and Sons Chapel on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Wilderness Baptist Church cemetery.

Dorothy Jurgel

Mrs. Dorothy W. Jurgel, 81, of Bumpass died Monday January 20, 2003 at Mary Washington Hospital after a long illness. She was born on September 4, 1921 in the Bronx, NY to the late Edward and Susan Willett. Raised in Little Falls, NJ, Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Patterson, NJ in 1942. Dorothy and Raymond married in May of 1945. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and in doctor offices through 1952 until she and Raymond moved to Parsippany. Dorothy opened and operated a small greenhouse and nursery business through 1970. She became active in Parsippany politics in 1964, actively campaigning for a family friend, Frank Downey, who was running for Mayor. Dorothy remained active in politics and was elected to Township Council in 1971. She continued to serve the Township, Morris County and the State of New Jersey through elected and appointed positions until her retirement in 1992 at the age of 71. Dorothy enjoyed her retirement on Lake Anna in Virginia and summered on Squam Lake in New Hampshire. She is survived by a son, Raymond J. Jurgel, Jr. and his wife, Mary Zelli; a sister, Mary Willett; a brother, Ed Willett; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Jurgel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Bumpass, VA at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund, 1107 Fredericks Hall Rd, Bumpass, VA 23024.

David Van Fossen

David Van Fossen, 77, formerly of Callahan, FL died on Monday, November 18, 2002 at his home. After Mr. Van Fossen retired from the Air Force as a welder he went to work for the Department of the Navy as a civil service welder. He was a member of Thomas Creek Baptist Church in Callahan, FL. He is survived by a son, Terry Lynn Van Fossen of Callahan, FL; two daughters, Deanna Kay Burbulak of Watertown, NY and Patricia Ann Sparks of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Jim Van Fossen of Richmond and Donald Van Fossen of Ohio; a sister, Pat Toney of Ohio; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances E. Van Fossen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg at 7:00 pm with Mike Baker officiating. Inurnment will take place in Bremen Family cemetery in Grandview, Ohio at a later date. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave #210, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.

Carl Orloff

Carl Orloff, 73, of Culpeper died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at his residence. He was born October 4, 1929, in Calexico, CA to the late Carl G. Orloff and Lena Chaney Orloff. Mr. Orloff was a veteran of the United State Marine Corp. He was an avid animal lover, and especially enjoyed birds and all aspects of the outdoors. He had a lifelong fasination and love for trains. Mr. Orloff is survived by two sons, Carl M. Orloff of Culpeper and Raymond Orloff of Canyon Country, CA, two daughters, Maria Ward of Wickliffe, KY and Deborah Reed of Boaz, KY, one stepson, Charles Bacon of Semi Valley, CA and three stepdaughters, Patricia Bayless of Canyon Country, CA, Muriel Brady of Palmdale, CA and Tina Merrywether of Acton, CA. Additional survivors include sixteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and other family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Maydel Mendoza Orloff, his second wife, Joyce Iris Orloff, a granddaughter, Robin Orloff and a brother, Walter Orloff. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville, Culpeper, VA. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John S. Farrar officiating. Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery with military honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Family Care, Home, Health and Hospice, 610 Laurel Street, Suite 210, Culpeper, VA 22701. James Dellinger

James Harry Dellinger, 77, of Castleton, formerly of Alexandria died Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at his residence. He was born July 25, 1925 in Chesnee, South Carolina to the late James P. Dellinger and Rose Dellinger. Mr. Dellinger was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific aboard The USS Moale DD-693 during World War II. He was employed fifteen years as a detective for the Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad. He also worked as a warehouse manager for fifteen years at Globe Distributing. Mr. Dellinger was a member and helped build Wilton Woods Baptist Church, in Alexandria. He was also an active member of the Rappahannock Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Sperryville V.F.W. Post #1150. Survivors include his loving wife, Lucille V. Dellinger of Castleton, and his two devoted children, Steve D. Dellinger and his wife, Rita Ann of Culpeper, and Gail L. Shaffer of Mechanicsville, VA. Additional survivors include four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren, Cody, Ashley, Christina, Lindsey, Emily, Matthew and Annette. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Dellinger and his wife, Evelyn of Castleton and a sister, Jehane Keys and her husband, Gary of Rixeyville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Timbers. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 8, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Dallas Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Culpeper National cemetery with honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, P.O. Box 78, Boston, VA 22713 and/or the Castleton Volunter Fire and Rescue 593 Castleton View Road, Castleton, VA 22716. Steven Sautel

Steven Timothy Sautel, 49, of Culpeper died Saturday, October 19, 2002. He was born September 24, 1953 in Rockford, Illinois to Dick and Jean Sautel of Rockford, IL. Steve worked as Production Manager at Continetal Tevis for 21 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Culpeper, where he sat on the board and was Chairman of Camp Fantastic. Steve was also on the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as was very active in the Career Partners program. He was confirmed at Broadway United Methodist Church in Rockford IL. Steve will always be remembered for the sparkle in his eye and his unforgettable smile. He had a big heart and loved the outdoors. His fun-loving nature and loyalty was a gift to his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, best friend and life partner of twenty years, Patricia R. Sautel of Culpeper and his daughter, Melissa Ann Grossner of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Gladys Rectin of Rockford, IL and two sisters, Karen L. Sautel of Fort Myers, Florida and Julie K. Sautel of Rockford, IL. Additional survivors include a sister-in-law, Jacqueline M. Hauge and her daughter, Reade Patricia, a brother-in-law, Bobby Hauge and his wife, Bonnie and their children, Alexis, Sara, Ashton and Justine, his mother-in-law, Alice P. Hauge, an aunt, Marie Farnam, a special friend, Mary Kovi, and his beloved dogs, Max and Heidi all of Culpeper He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bob Hauge and his favorite dog, Chet. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 24, at 12 noon at Mountain Run Lake Park with Rev. R. Wayne Bernardo officiating. Gracie Chinault Mrs. Gracie Chinault, 77, of Fredericksburg died on Friday, November 8, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born in Richmond, Virginia to the late James Edward Perkins and Alma Farmer Perkins. She was a member of Sylvania Heights Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Chinault was the "best " cook ever and loved working with her hands doing crafts and spoiling her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Ralph Chinault of Fredericksburg; beloved sons, Roy D. Chinault of Fredericksburg and Richard Chinault of Fredericksburg; three loving grandchildren, and two loving great grand children; and a beloved sister, Garnett McCallister. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Fredericksburg from 7 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at Found and Sons Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul R. Harfst officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rena Mae Burke, 63, of Woodville died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1939 in Rappahannock County to the late Milton Daniel Norman and Lizzie Heflin Norman. After twenty years of service with the Department of Defense, Mrs. Burke decided to become a homemaker so she could care for her family. She was a member of Five Forks Regular Baptist Church and a member of the Daughters of Confederacy. Mrs. Burke is survived by her husband of thirty-six years, Richard Wallace Burke, one son, Richard Wallace Burke, II and his wife, Michele both of Woodville and one grandson, Walter Milton Burke. Additional survivors include three brothers, John Norman and his wife, Nina, Daniel Norman and his wife, Bessie and Nick Norman and his wife, Lillian, two sisters, Mary Wiley and her husband, Paul and Flossie Wharton, one sister-in-law, Sadie Norman and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Norman and a brother-in-law, Kinsey Wharton. The family will receive friends Monday, March 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Roger Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Masonic cemetery. William Kala, Jr.

William Kamana Kala, Jr., 55, of Stafford County died Tuesday, October 22, 2002, at his home. Born in Hana, Maui, Hawaii, Mr. Kala served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Miriam S. Kala; his son and daughter-in-law Kaleo and Jana Kala, of Woodbridge, VA; his daughter and son-in-law, Lorinda and David Nielsen and two granddaughters, Kylee and Morgan, of Stafford, VA; his daughters Meleana, of Fredericksburg and Aimoku and son, Kainoa, both at home. He is also survived by his mother, Lucy Kala and several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Mr. Kala was self-employed as a furniture restoration artisan with his son Kaleo, operating the family-run business Transportation-Related Services, in Stafford. He was a faithful servant to his family, friends, church and country. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities in the church throughout his life. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2002 at the Fredericksburg Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1710 Bragg Road, Fredericksburg at 3:00 p.m. with Bishop Linwood Green conducting. The family will receive visitors at the chapel, prior to the service, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. A private burial ceremony will be held at Quantico National Ceremony on Monday, October 28, 2002. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to a college fund for the Kala children, c/o Patriot Bank, PO Box 610, Stafford, VA 22555 in memory of William Kala, Jr.
