Shelby Schuylar Walcott, 24 of Spotsylvania, died at her home on Saturday, May 11, 2002 of unknown causes. She was a Toddler Teacher at Minnieland; and had an Associates degree in early child development. She is survived by her daughter, Sydney Alexis Walcott of the home; her mother Selma Walcott of the home; her father Robert Walcott of New York; a sister Leslie Walcott of New Jersey, and many friends. The family will receive friends at Found and Sons Fredericksburg Chapel on Thursday, May 16, 2002 from 7-9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 2:00 pm, interment will be private. Found and Sons Funeral Chapels - Cremation Service of Fredericksburg is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Ruth Deloris Grogg, 73, of Spotsylvania County died on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Irie Jennings Grogg; a daughter, Lorraine I. Haas of Orlando, FL; four sons, David I. Grogg of Partlow, VA, Daniel R. Grogg of Winchester, VA, Darren H. Grogg of Raleigh, NC and Dion J. Grogg of Fredericksburg, VA; two brothers, William H. Hinish, Jr. and Samuel L. Hinish, both of Saxton, PA; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Graver officiating. Interment will follow in Quantico National cemetery. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Avenue #210, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Margaret Virginia Yancey, 86, of Culpeper died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born May 13, 1915 in Culpeper to the late Charles Cleveland Yancey and Margaret Thomas Herndon Yancey. Miss Yancey graduated from Culpeper High School and received her secretarial degree from Perry Business School. She began her career with Charles Waite, Attorney at Law and went on to work for the Virginia Tech Extension Office and retired in 1979 after more than thirty-seven years of service. Ms. Yancey was a member and very active at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School, was on the Altar Guild and a member of Episcopal Church Women (E.C.W.) Ms. Yancey is survived by her sister, Mary Frances Yancey Kite and her husband, Raymond R. Kite both of Culpeper, a niece, Linda Kite Cutler and her husband, John and a great nephew, Alexander Yancey Cutler, all of Fairfax Station. Additional survivors include her caretakers, Christina Dodson, Deborah Johnson, Donna Davis, Rebecca Johnson, Sherry Lynn Broyles, Jamie Mabell, Sherry Mardensz, Jackie Smith, Michelle Johnson, Danny Johnson and Fred Wilson, and her dear friend, Hazel Suddith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Elizabeth Yancey, two brothers, Charles Thomas Yancey and Herndon Russell Yancey and a good friend and caretaker, Thelma Bennett. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Michael Gray and Mason Hutcheson. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery. Pallbearers will be Landon Morgan, Watson Morgan, Alan Dawson, Evan Crow, Christopher Geest, Kenneth Smith and Mason Hutcheson. The family has invited everyone to Lakeside after the committal service for lunch. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is in charge of the arrangements.

Floyd Jacob Fancher, Jr., 83, of Culpeper, died October 18, 2002 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 6, 1919 in Johnson City, N Y, to the late Floyd Jacob Fancher, Sr. and Maude Morey Fancher. Mr. Fancher was a member of Round Hill Lodge #533 in Endicott, NY for 45 years and was a member of Union Endicott Highschool Booster Club. He was a member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church and a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Endicott. Mr. Fancher was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Flick Fancher, of Culpeper, and three sons, Richard L. Fancher, and his wife, Jacqueline, of Culpeper, Michael R. Fancher, and his wife, Yvonne, of Clayton, NC, and Floyd J. Fancher III, and his wife, Becky, of Camarillo, CA. Mr. Fancher is also survived by seven grandchildren, Margaret A. Kokoszka, and her husband, Michael, of Warrenton, Deborah M. Payne, and her husband, Darryl, of Woodbridge, Christopher Fancher, of Atlanta, GA, Matthew Fancher, of Ft. Myers Beach, Fl, Yvette Fisher, of Clayton, NC, Jennifer Fancher, of Ft. Myers Beach, Fl, and Michelle Highsmith, and her husband, Clay, of Bryon,GA and eight great grandchildren, Sierra and Ryan Kokoszka, Lauren and Brandon Payne, Katelyn and Sarah Fisher, Andrew Highsmith, and Cameron Fancher. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Edwin D. Fancher and two sisters, Gladys Dewar and Margaret Hillburger. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 22, from 7 to 9 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 23, at 11 am at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John Crawford, III officiating. Interment will follow in Culpeper Masonic cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Culpeper Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 731, Culpeper, VA 22701, Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Dr., Culpeper, VA 22701, and/or Central United Mehodist Church, Endicott, NY 13760. Harry "Burlee" Jenkins

Harry "Burlee" Jenkins, 39, of Rhoadesville died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born August 24, 1962 in Culpeper. Burlee was employed with Chantilly Turf Farm until 1992 after which he was a self-employed landscaper. He is survived by his loving partner of thirteen years, Sandra Taylor of Rhoadesville, Buster and Cry Baby, his mother, Mollie Sue Pullen Jenkins, and three sons, Harry McPeak, Steven McPeak and Johnathan McPeak all of Culpeper. Additional survivors include four brothers, Dennis "Denny" Jenkins of Remington, John Jenkins, Jr. of Rixeyville, and Mike Jenkins and Marty Jenkins both of Culpeper and three sisters, Jenna Jenkins of Louisa, and Brenda Dwyer and Suzy Jenkins both of Culpeper. He is also survived by Ms. Taylor's family; her son, George Wittig, two grandsons, Justin and Nicholas Wittig all of Lutherville, MD, two sisters, Patricia Heline and Pam Taylor both of Lutherville, MD and one brother, Glen Taylor of Rhoadesville. He was preceded in death by his father, John Raymond Jenkins, Sr. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. Richard Columbus Barber officiating. Roger J. “Pops” Young died on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at his home. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted friends & caregivers, Robert T. Chasteen and William P. Hill, Jr. He is also survived by his cousin, Julie & Chester Wilson, 2 nephews, Mark and Keith Wilson, goddaughter, Trugaye Lee and many friends. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Sat. May 18, 2002 at 11:00 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.

Elsie Schneider

Elsie Buchanan Schneider, 87, of Culpeper died July 3, 2002 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. She was born in Manitoba, Canada to the late John Logan Buchanan and the late Lena Brandt Buchanan. Prior to moving to Virginia in 1974, she taught music at Dunseith Public Schools, Dunseith, North Dakota, for many years. She was also an active member of O.E.S. Lois Chapter, No. 108 in Dunseith and held various offices in church and community organizations. After moving to Virginia, Mrs. Schneider was organist and choir director at Salem Baptist Church, Culpeper, Virginia, for a number of years and was a member of Culpeper Methodist Church. Mrs. Schneider is survived by her three daughters Elaine Hockett and her husband Hencil of Boston Virginia, Marlene Haverland and her husband Harley of Perham, Minnesota, and Karen Bowman and her husband Bill of Bowman, North Dakota. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Solomon Schneider. The Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 7, 2002 from 7-8:30p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia. A private graveside service will be held in Fairview cemetery, with Rev. Hazel Eakin officiating. Memorial contrabutions may be made to the Health Care Unit of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, P.O. Box 191, Culpeper, Virginia 22701. Barbara Phillips

Barbara Sue Phillips, 59, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2002, while at her home in Brandy Station. She was born to the late Joseph and Effie Sharpes on November 26, 1942 in Indian Head, MD. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. She had a strong Christian faith, truly loved nature and its creations, and touched the lives of everyone she knew. Barbara was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a dedicated member of the Open Door Baptist Church. After a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), she went peacefully to meet her Savior. Barbara is survived by her husband of thirty five years, Arnold Phillips, of Brandy Station, one daughter, Tracy Corbin and her husband Danny, of Madison, three sons, Michael Phillips and his wife Charlsa, of Culpeper, Timothy Phillips and his wife Kelli, of Culpeper, and Benjamin Phillips and his wife Kim, of Culpeper, and eight grandchildren, Jennifer and DJ Jones, Andrew and Christina Corbin, Jessica Zamudio, Cora and Chloe Phillips, and Victoria Phillips. Additional survivors include six siblings, Lois Jackson, of Woodstock, VA, Joseph Sharpes, of Woodstock, Polly Patton, of Woodstock, Everett Sharpes, of Woodbridge, Eddie Sharpes, of Alexandria, VA, and Cleo Sharpes, of Diamondhead, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Bruce Sharpes. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 20, 2002 from 2 to 4 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2002 at 2 pm at Open Door Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Jarvis officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be George Butler, Tommy Curtis, Sonny Deal, Collis Fincham, Matt Gregory and Carroll Stringfellow. Marianne Owens, 51, of Culpeper died Monday, July 8, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, in Charlottesville. She was born April 5, 1951 in Marion, Ohio to Dorotha M. Seiter Gray of Marion, OH and the late Bert Gray. In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sons, Michael F. Owens of Fredericksburg, Daniel J. Owens of Culpeper and Martin S. Owens of Culpeper, and three daughters, Donna Plecker and her husband, Dale both of Locust Grove, Michelle Blankenbaker and her husband, Thomas both of Colonial Beach and Denise Owens of Culpeper. Additional survivors include a close personal friend, Tracy W. Holmes of Culpeper, seven grandchildren, one brother, Paul Gray and his wife, Donna both of Ontario, Canada and two sisters, Donna Landon of Marion, OH and Sue Weber and her husband, John both of Buford, GA. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. James Fore officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery. Charles Blufford Hitt, 82, of Culpeper, Virginia died Monday, February 18, 2002 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 19, 1919 to the late James E. Hitt and Josephine Corbin Hitt. Mr. Hitt served in the United States Navy and was retired from The Rochester Corporation after many years of service. He was a member of the Culpeper American Legion Post #330. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Frances Estelle Hitt; three daughters, Ruby Martin of Culpeper, Dorothy Dodd of Richmond and Thelma Hitt of Culpeper and one son, Charles "Buck" Hitt of Culpeper. Additional survivors include a sister, Annie Becker of Hanover, PA, six grandchildren, William Martin, Jr., Patricia Harlow, Steven Dodd, Susan O'Keefe, Brian Hitt and Chris Hitt and two great grandchildren, Trey Martin and Amberly Harlow. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 21, at 2 p.m. at Fairview cemetery with Rev. Sandy Martin and Pastor Tim Atkins officiating. Frances Thornton

Frances B. Thornton, 80, of Sperryville died Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 14, 1921 in Rappahannock County to the late J. Roades Brown and Anna Smith Brown. Mrs. Thornton was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Virginia Nursing School. She was the first public health nurse for Rappahannock County and retired after thirty-seven years. She was very involved in her community and volunteering her time after her retirement. Mrs. Thornton was the Rappahannock News Citizen of the Year in 1990. She was a member of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Philip Lee Thornton, III and his wife, Carolyn Tholand Thornton both of Sperryville, a grandson, Philip Lee Thornton, IV of Richmond and a granddaughter, Felicia Lee Cary Thornton of Arlington. Additional survivors include a brother, J. Roades Brown, Jr. of Tazewell, VA a sister, Ann Brown Thompson of Fork Union, VA and a brother-in-law, Dr. James M. Thornton of Gate City, VA. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Philip Lee Thornton, her paternal grandparents, Dr. J.G. and Cora Reid, her maternal grandparents, Dr. J.W. Smith and Frances Wood Smith, a brother, W. Jack Brown and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Thornton Fletcher and Margaret Brown. The family will receive friends Friday, February 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church, Sperryville, VA. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 23, at 11 a.m. at Woodville cemetery with Rev. Jon C. Heddleston officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 208, Sperryville, VA 22740 and/or the Rappahannock Historical Society, P.O.
