Clarence Clark Jr.

MARTINSVILLE - A graveside service with full military honors for Clarence Swetlin Clark Jr., 68, Route 9, Box 313, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Roselawn Burial Park by the Rev. James Hensley.
He died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, in his residence.
Born Dec. 5, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Clarence S. Clark Sr. and Lizzie Comer Clark, who survives.
He was married to Frieda Hill Clark.
He was employed as a barber until 1970. Then, he was a self-employed contractor.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He received numerous medals including Victory World War II, Korean Service Ribbon, Navy Occupation Service Ribbon with Asiastic Clasp, and Chian Service Ribbon.
He was a member of Vision Assembly of God in Collinsville.
In addition to his mother of Danville, and his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Sharon C. Gilbert and Diane C. Caudill, both of Martinsville; two sons, Rickey D. Clark and Ronnie L. Clark, both of Martinsville; two brothers, Billy J. Clark and Harold R. "PeeWee" Clark, both of Danville; three sisters, Edna Mabel C. Gionta, Mary Ann C. Oakes, and Shirley C. DeLano, all of Port Richey, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Marvin L. "Buster" Clark, Robert L. Clark, and Oscar Clark.
Roselawn Funeral Home of Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Craig

Frances Talbott Craig, 82, 201 Highland Court, died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 13, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charles M. Talbott and Rebecca Frances Saunders Talbott.
She was married to Harry Alexander Craig, who died Nov. 13, 1989.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Mills Inc. She was also a poet and writer. She had written several short stories for Mountain Laurel literary magazine.
She was a member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and also directed several church dramas.
Survivors include two sons, Harry A. Craig of Danville and David Lee Craig of the residence; a sister, May Phillips of Semora, N.C.; a brother, Charles Talbott of Sutherlin; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Richard Heffner and the Rev. Robert Vermillion.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of her son, Harry Craig, 230 Alpine Drive.

Kevin Graves

The funeral for Kevin Eric Graves, 5, P.O. Box 3300, was conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Interment was in Highland Burial Park.
He died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born April 1, 1991, in Danville, he was a son of Mitzi Graves and Keith Johnson, who survive.
In addition to his mother of Danville and his father of Yanceyville, N.C., survivors include a brother, Deshaun Graves of Danville; three sisters, Tiona Graves, Tipree Graves, and Tanesha Graves, all of Danville; his maternal grandmother, Carolyn Graves of Danville; his maternal grandfather, Robert Fallen; and his maternal great-grandmother, Lillie Edwards of Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Carolyn Evans, 103-D Pleasant View Avenue.

Robert Ives

Robert Pugh Ives, 83, 58 Carlson Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born Oct. 3, 1912, in New Bern, N.C., he was a son of Lewis Ives and Mary Joyner Ives.
He was married to Clydie Estelle Wright Ives, who survives.
He served as a navigator in the U.S. Merchant Marines for more than 20 years. He had been living in Danville for the past 24 years, and was of the Episcopal faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Barbara Roberson of Kinston, N.C.; two sisters, Nora Rawls of Grifton, N.C., and Jessie Blow of St. Louis; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Ray Wiggs. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Ryburn Stone

The funeral for Ryburn Ray Stone, 59, 208 Forest Lawn Drive, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Townes Memorial Chapel by Father David McGuire. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
Born June 18, 1937, in Danville, he was a son of Jett W. Stone, who survives, and Jessie Sigmon Stone.
On April 24, 1987, he was married to Geneva Jennings Stone, who survives.
He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a member of Knights of Columbus. He also previously served in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his father and his wife, survivors include a step-daughter, Anna M. Smithers of Cleveland, Tenn.; two step-sons, Randy C. Smithers of Danville and Tony W. Smithers of West Point; two brothers, Walter Stone of Conover, N.C., and Nelson Stone of Danville; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends at 1239 Aspen St.

Hester Wallace

CHATHAM - The funeral for Hester S. Wallace, 83, 637 North Main St., will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Corinth Christian Church by the Rev. Gary N. Page. Burial will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park in Chatham.
She died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 28, 1912, in Alberta, she was a daughter of Robert and Mittie Steward Morgan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sam R. Wallace.
She was a member of Corinth Christian Church, where she served as a member of the church board, the trustee board, the Senior Choir and Christian Women Fellowship. She also taught the Adult Sunday School Class, led Bible study, and was the church treasurer.
She attended St. Paul's Normal School in Lawrenceville, Hampton Institute, A&T University in Greensboro, N.C., and New York University.
She was with the Pittsylvania County School system for 44 years, and was a retired supervisor.
Survivors include a step-son, Sam R. Wallace Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a step-daughter, Hannah Lyons of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and three sisters, Sallie Logan of Alberta, Charlotte Coleman of Chatham and Mittie P. Bagley of Dolphin.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Howerton Funeral Home of Chatham is in charge of arrangements.

Gracie Womack

The funeral for Gracie D. Womack, 83, 2222 1/2 North Main St., will be conducted 11 a.m. today from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
She died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in Integrated Health Service of Raleigh, N.C.
Born Sept. 12, 1912, in Henry County, she was a daughter of Gracie Hairston.
She was predeceased by her husband, James D. Womack.
Survivors include a brother, Cephus Hairston of Martinsville.
The family will receive friends at 299 Locust Lane.

Russell Hubbard

HURT - Russell Hubbard, 61, 940 Delta Drive, died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, in the University of Virginia Hospital.
Born Oct. 10, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Waddie Hubbard.
He was married to Louise Hubbard, who survives.
Prior to his retirement on disability, he was employed by Altavista Motors. He was also a member of Sandy Hill Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sisters, Nannie Taylor of Danville and Frances Hubbard of Dry Fork; and a foster sister, Lizzie Tanks of Pittsville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, in Gretna, by the Rev. Raymond Ramsey. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Michael Shelton

CHATHAM - Michael Edward Shelton, 39, 116 Peach St., died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1996, as the result of an automobile accident on Route 863.
Born Dec. 25, 1956, in Danville, he was a son of Roy R. Shelton and Marjorie Oakes Shelton, who survive.
On Oct. 9, 1993, he was married to Lisa Angel-Shelton, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, and was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. He was employed by Exxon Chemical Corporation in Lynchburg as a maintenance technician.
He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Persian Gulf War.
In addition to his parents of Danville and his wife of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Lauren Ann Shelton of Richmond.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, by the Rev. Don Davidson. Burial will be in Leemont cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

William "Bucky" Corbett Sr.

William Mebane "Bucky" Corbett Sr., 62, 145 Winslow St., died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, in his residence.
Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Danville, he was a son of Louis Corbett and Faye Mebane Corbett, who survives.
He was married to Edith Glass Corbett, who survives.
In addition to his mother of Danville and his wife of Baltimore, survivors include three sons, Terrel Corbett, Renard Corbett, and Darrell Corbett, all of Baltimore; a daughter, Trina Scott of Baltimore; one brother, Lewis Corbett Jr. of Danville; and 12 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, 130 Winslow St., and at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gene Moore

HURT - Gene Harvey Moore, 44, 608 Lynn St. Ext., died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Feb. 2, 1952, in Danville, he was a son of Minnie Hedrick Moore, who survives, and Otey Lee Moore.
He was married to Ellen Shelton Moore, who survives.
He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He was employed by Klopman Industries. He was also a member of Altavista Lions Club and the Golden Hokie Club.
In addition to his mother of Chatham and his wife of the residence, survivors include two brothers, Randall Lee Moore of Rustburg and Morris Wayne Moore of Gretna.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. R.G. Rowland and Rudy Hearn, minister. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Colbert-Moran Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.
