Warren Benson Edwards "Nat", age 68, of Mechanicsville, died April 24, 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marceline Fox Edwards, "Mickey", of 49 years; a daughter, Judy E. and husband, Gregory A. Huband; a son, Warren Benson Edwards Jr., "Benny", and wife, Cindy; a granddaughter, Amber Jackson; a sister, Laura Fox; and numerous nieces and nephews. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, where the family will receive friends from 4 til 8 p.m. Thursday and where service will be at 2 p.m. Friday. Interment in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church, 4205 Ravenswood Rd., Richmond, VA 23222.

HAMPTON
David Lynn Hampton, age 48, of Crewe, died Thursday, April 26, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Norris L. Hampton Jr. and is survived by his mother, Elizabeth K. Hampton; one sister, Ann H. Wooding of Burkeville; one brother, Norris L. Hampton III of Prince George; a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday in Crewe Cemetery, with the Rev. J. Clyde Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends at the Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home Friday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Nottoway County Emergency Squad.

HARRIS
Mrs. Margaret P. Harris of Powhatan, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 in Powhatan. She is survived by three sons, Frank V. Perkins, James M. Harris and Gerald D. Harris; two daughters, Mary E. Scruggs and Shirley A. Jordan; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, George R.Perkins; one daughter-in-law, Naomi Perkins; a son-in-law, Clifton Howell; two sisters-in-law, Mary E. Perkins and Martha Bartlett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan, Va., Rev. James E. Robinson, pastor, officiating, with interment in the Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery, Powhatan, Va.

HENLEY
Mrs. Alice B. Henley of Powhatan Co., departed this life Tuesday, April 24, 2001. She is survived by 12 children, Margaret Smith, Florence Henley, devoted caretaker Ann Middleton, Mary Cox, William, James, Herbert, Joseph, Homer, John George and Bobby Henley; 40 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Andrew Bell; seven daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law, among them devoted John H. Middleton III; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church, Powhatan Co., Rev. Lawrence Wilson, pastor, officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. After 1 p.m. Saturday, remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church Saturday, 1:30 p.m. Please omit food.

HOLLAND
Ms. Tonya Dianne Holland, 41 of 3641 Millers Glen Lane, Richmond, Virginia, died April 20, 2001 in Richmond Community Hospital. A native of Suffolk. She is survived by a daughter, Talisha N. Cheek of Richmond, Va.; mother, Janis Ann Monroe of Sardis, Ga.; father, John L. Holland Sr. of Suffolk, Va.; one sister, Johnna Franklin of Richmond, Va.; one brother, John L. Holland Jr. and wife, Cynthia of Columbia, Md.; maternal grandmother, Martha Monroe of Queens, N.Y.; paternal grandparents, Linwood and Margaret Holland of Suffolk, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Saturday April 28, 2001 at 12 p.m. in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church by Rev. J.J. Ferguson and Rev. Joseph Goode. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. Thomas Ervin Harris and Mary Edith Harris, 714 Carolina Road, Suffolk, Va. The family will be at the funeral home Friday 7 to 8 p.m.

Ms. Matilda F. Johnson, age 87, of Richmond, formerly of Amelia, sister of Jessie J. Hill and Lillian Johnson; died in Amelia Wednesday, April 25, 2001. Notice later. V.Y. Scott Funeral Home, Amelia.

LEPPIN
Klaus R. Leppin, 63, of Kilmarnock, co-owner of the Sal's Italian Pizza in Kilmarnock, died April 25, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Lisa A. Leppin; three children, Annette Leppin of Richmond, Jerry Leppin of Gloucester and Robert Leppin of Newport News; one grandson, Keith Leppin; and one stepson, Aaron Savage of Kilmarnock. He is also survived by his co-owner, Salvatore Leone Jr. of Gloucester. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be said on Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in the St. Francis DeSales Church, Kilmarnock.

METZGER
Charles H. Metzger of Arvada, Col., formerly of Richmond, a retired Lt. Col. in the US Air Force, died April 24, 2001.

MOORE
William David Moore Jr., age 86, passed away on April 26, 2001 in Midlothian, Va. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Katherine Green Moore; one son, William David Moore III of Southern Pines, N.C.; and three daughters, Barbara M. Wheeler of Gloucester, Va., Jeanne M. Tyler of Midlothian and Deborah M. Dobson of Richmond. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Pastor George A. Moore of Montross, Colorado; and his sisters, Anne Hunsberger of Arlington, Va., Alice Baskervill of South Boston, Va., Margaret Hatter of Baltimore, Md. and Gladys Challoner of Richmond. Mr. Moore retired from Southern States Cooperative in 1976 and lived in Amelia County for most of his retirement. He was the past president of the Virginia School Board Association and a past director of the First Virginia Bank. He was a leader and Elder in the Presbyterian Church and served many years as the superintendent of the Amelia School Board. Arrangements are being handled by the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia. Visitation will be Saturday April 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral will be held at the Ameila Presbyterian Church on Sunday April 29 at 2 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery. NEEDHAM
Helen Hicks Needham of Richmond, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001. She was the widow of Clayton, M. Needham Sr. and is survived by her son, C. Malcolm Needham Jr. and his wife, Sharon; grandsons, Clayton M. Needham III and Hunter Needham; two sisters, Viola Womack of Richmond and Olive Hollins of Sandy Hook, Va.; a brother, Robert Lewis Hicks of Edgewater, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Needham was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Goochland and the Dogwood Glen Garden Club. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday with interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

PARTAIN
Jeanne Partain, age 69 of Fredericksburg, formerly of Palacios, Texas, died April 26, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Jack Partain; her children, Joe and Stephanie Partain of Fredericksburg and Jim and Kathy of Springfield, Va.; five brothers, one sister; her grandson, Cory Partain; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Home, Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Saturday, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at Laurel Park United Methodist Church, 2700 Hungary Rd. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations to Laurel Park United Methodist Church.

PATTERSON
Lois Jean Evans Patterson of Richmond, died April 25, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alger and Myrtle Evans; and brother, Darryl Evans. She is survived by her children, Allison, John III and wife, Dorothy, Joseph and wife, Cathy, and Holly Patterson; and their father, John A. Patterson Jr.; sisters, Ellen Barnes of Albany, Ga. and Darlene Watts of Clarion, Iowa; four grandchildren, Marlena, Olivia, Joseph Jr., and Ashley; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Patterson was retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Co. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in West Hampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

PITTMAN
Linwood (Bill) Pittman Jr. of Richmond, died April 24, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Rita W. Pittman; three daughters, Linda and Gailor (Feesie) Pittman and Lyndale Harris; devoted grandson, L. Major (Skeet) Pittman; loving mother, Mary Pittman; three brothers, Norris, Robert and Willis Pittman; a sister, Norma Harris; two aunts, one uncle; mother-in-law, Virginia McWilliams; 10 sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Scotts Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where the family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. After 12 noon Saturday remains will rest in the Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. Cary St., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. Ralph Hodge officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

ROBINSON
Mrs. Kathryn Rankin Robinson, 80, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in her home in Winchester. "Kit", was the widow of the late 7th District Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson. She was born June 1, 1920 in Richmond, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Patrick Rankin. After graduating from Cathedral Girls School in Richmond in 1937, she trained at St. Vincent DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, graduating as a registered nurse in 1940. She joined the American Red Cross Nursing Service and in 1941 joined the US Army Nursing Corps. She saw service in the US during World War II. She traveled to Europe on a troop ship and served in the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign as a field nurse. She left the Army as a first lieutenant, having been awarded the American Defense Service Medal. She married J. Kenneth Robinson of Winchester March 29, 1947. She is survived by a brother, Edward P. Rankin, Jr. of Richmond; six children, Patrick D.M. Robinson of Bellefonte, Pa., Keveney Robinson Furst of Winchester, H. Ray Robinson of Sebastapol, Calif., James Rankin Robinson and J. Kelly Robinson, both of Winchester and Sallie Robinson Ward of Westminister, Colorado; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, J. Kenneth Robinson Jr. In Winchester, Mrs. Robinson was a longtime member of the Winchester-Clarke Garden club and a former officer of the Junior Century Club. She served as a District commissioner for the Blue Ridge Hunt Pony Club. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church parish. She was a member of the Virginia Tech University board of Visitors from 1971-1979 and was awarded membership in the William Preston Society for her service. In Washington, D.C. she served on the board of the Capital Hill Club. She was an officer of the Congressional Club, a member of the Republican Congressional Wives Club as well as a member of the International Neighbors Club. She served as co-chairman of George Allen's gubernatorial campaign in 1993. A funeral service will be held Saturday at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Omps Funeral Home in Winchester Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Kerr, Robert Solenberger, Harry F. Byrd III, John B. Schroth, John Magill and Fritts Rosenberger. Honorary pallbearers will be the Honorable Harry F. Byrd Jr., Ben R. Lacy III, Joseph A. Schroth, the Honorable John O. Marsh Jr., Joseph Massie, Ben B. Dutton Jr., William F. Cook, Bradford Tucker, Arthur Flippo, J. Victor Arthur Jr., the Honorable George Allen and Bill Battaile. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Sacred Heart Catholic Church or NICE, a non-profit organization founded by Sallie Robinson Ward and her husband, David, which serves the homeless and poor, at 622 W. 6th Ave., Denver, Co. 80204.

SCOTT
Frederic Robert Scott III, died at St. Mary's Hospital April 25, 2001, after a long illness. He was born March 1, 1928 in Richmond, VA, the son of Frederic Robert Scott II and Elizabeth Cecil Scott. He married Elizabeth Venable Spindler in 1950. Their children are Elizabeth Venable Scott of Harrisonburg, VA, Charles Granville Scott, Susan Scott Schaefer, Mary Scott Andrews and Thomas Branch Scott III, all of Richmond. He also had five grandchildren. Ian and Marlyn Scott, Kate and Kristin Schaefer and Mary Madison Andrews, all of Richmond. He is also survived by his brother, Russell Cecil Scott; a niece and two nephews. Mr. Scott, before his retirement, was the real estate developer of Chickahominy Bluffs. However, he was better known for his enthusiastic efforts towards the preservation of Virginia's natural environment, in particular his 60 years of migratory bird research. He was best known for his work toward the return of the bald eagle to Virginia rivers and for founding the bird banding station at Kiptopeake Beach. His editorial work as editor of the Virginia Society of Ornithology's journal The Raven and regional editor of American Birds of the National Audubon Society earned him an international reputation as a respected ornithologist. In 1983 he was honored for his work with bald eagles by the National Audubon Society. Although not a musician, he was active in the classical music organizations of the city. He was a member of the Musicians' Club, the original Chamber Music Society, and a Richmond Symphony subscriber from its founding. He was one of the group who found a new home for Richmond's only classical music station when Union Theological Seminary gave it up. He was on the board of the current Chamber Music Society until his illness. Mr. Scott took an active part in the establishment of The Maymont Foundation and set up the aviary for the science exhibits. He was also on the executive committee of the Virginia Society of Ornithology, and on the Governor's Task Force for Caledon State Park. He served on many boards and belonged to a wide variety of organizations, among which were the English Speaking Union, the Alliance Francais, and the Mediterranian Society. He belonged to the Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Order of Founders and Patriots. He was also a member of the Bull and Bear Club, and a former member of the Country Club of Virginia. As an ornithologist, he belonged to the Richmond Audubon Society, the Virginia Society of Ornithology, the Brooks Bird Club, and the Eastern Bird Banding Association. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate his friends' support of his pet projects. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 30th, 10:30 a.m., at Second Presbyterian Church on 5th Street in Richmond.
