John R. Perkins Sr.

GRETNA - John Raymond "June" Perkins Sr., 60, of 141 Coffey St., died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996.
Born June 23, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John William Perkins and Hattie Perkins Irby.
He was a member of Midway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Brotherhood.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and had worked as a farmer and a truck driver with Yeatts Transfer Co.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Gilbert Perkins of the residence; two sons, Richard William Perkins of Lynchburg and John Raymond Perkins Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Marie P. Mistretta and Carrie Ann Perkins both of Gretna; two sisters, Mabel Patterson of Gretna and Irene Patterson of Hurt; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four nbrothers, Russell Perkins, W.R. "Boots" Perkins, Lloyd Perkins and Lee Perkins.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Midway Baptist Church by Dr. Lynn Marstin and the Rev. Gene Ashworth. Interment will be in the Rebecca Jane Parsons Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Tuesday night at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

James Copeland

James William Copeland, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Aug. 8, 1900, in Henry County, he was a son of Jesse Thomas Copeland and Callie Gardner Copeland.
He was married to Lucy K. Copeland, who died Aug. 15, 1991.
He spent most of his life in Washington, D.C. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Sears for 30 years. Following his retirement, he moved to Lynchburg, but had lived in Danville since September 1991.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Sparks of Long Port, N.J.; two sisters, Lucile C. Lanier and Elizabeth Copeland, both of Danville; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Green Hill cemetery by the Rev. John LeGault.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Landon Farmer

Landon Thornton Farmer, 75, 177 Capri Court, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born July 17, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Thornton Farmer and Mamie Shorter Farmer.
He was married to Virginia Sowers Farmer, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was employed by Dan River Inc. for 38 years as a machine operator. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of Schoolfield United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and served on the church board and the finance committee.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a brother, Harry Farmer of Richmond.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. M. Dana Hunt. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Rena Miller

Rena Barksdale Miller, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Virginia.
She was a housewife.
She was married to Matthew Miller, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Shirley Allen of Mt. Holly, N.J., Dorothy Dixon of Richmond, and Fannie Walton of Danville; and two sons, Thomas Stephens of Newport News and James Stephens of Chester, Pa.
The funeral was conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Shockoe Baptist Church in Java by the Rev. George H. Pass. Interment was in Highland Burial Park.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bobbie Motley

Bobbie Lee Motley, 60, 127 Vinton Place, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in his residence, following three years of declining health.
Born Nov. 4, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Hazel Dell Motley and Jessie Margaret Roark Motley.
On March 31, 1961, he was married to Elizabeth Sipe Motley, who survives.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Richmond Cedar Works for 17 years. Since May 1991, he had been owner and operator of Riverside Citgo.
He was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in the Brosville community.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a goddaughter, Brittany Noel Hall of Chatham.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Tamela Elizabeth Motley, who died Nov. 17, 1986.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Wednesday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. L. Kermit Law. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Lillie Myers

CHATHAM - Lillie Myers Myers, 85, 11921 Franklin Turnpike, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, in her residence.
Born April 16, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Raleigh Dodson Myers and Sophia Adkins Myers.
She was a member of Salem Church of Christ.
She is survived by a son, Lewis L. Myers of the residence; and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hubert T. Myers.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Larry Owen and the Rev. William Bates.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, and other times at the residence.

Tommy Stultz

JOHNSON, KAN. - Tommy Joe Stultz, 52, of Brandon, Colo., and formerly of Johnson, Kan., died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996.
He was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Danville, Va.
He was married to Louise Stultz, who survives.
He was a farmer who had lived in Johnson since 1973, before moving to Brandon, Colo. three years ago.
In addition to his wife of Johnson, he is survived by two sons, Frank Stultz and Marvin Stultz, both of Johnson; and a brother, Robert Lee Stultz of Eden, N.C.
He was predeceased by his father, Stonewall Jackson Stultz, a brother, Jackie Stultz Jr., and by a sister, Peggy Oaks.
The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday from Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson by the Rev. Keith Fink. Burial will be in Stanton County cemetery.
The family will receive friends 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at Figgins-Phillips Funeral Home in Johnson.

William Kilgore

William Richard Kilgore, 72, 251 Allison Drive, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following eight years of declining health.
Born Dec. 1, 1923, in Palmer, Tenn., he was a son of Walter Kilgore and Lella Murphy Kilgore.
On June 19, 1947, he was married to Mabel Hall Kilgore, who survives.
He spent his early life in Tennessee. He had lived in Danville for the past 41 years, where he was employed as a jeweler and watchmaker. For 20 years, he worked at Brown's Jewelry and later worked for Allen's Jewelry until his retirement.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Elks Club, the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Odd Fellows, V.F.W. Post 647, and the American Legion Post No. 325.
He was also a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church.
He also served on the Danville Electoral Board for 15 years and was past vice-chairman of the Danville Republican Party.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Shirley Baker of Pasadena, Md., and Marcie Gunter of Danville; two sons, Richard T. Kilgore of Boca Raton, Fla., and Dr. Dennis K. Kilgore of Doswell; a sister, Irene Thrower of Tamarac, Fla.; two brothers, Ernest Kilgore of Jasper, Tenn., and Luther Kilgore of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard E. Cobb and Dr. Dennis Kilgore. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, where full military honors will be given by American Legion Post. No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Herbert Oliver

RINGGOLD - Herbert Karl Oliver, 76, 542 Mountain Hill Road, died Friday, Sept. 6, 1996, in his residence.
Born in St. Louis, he was a son of Herbert Oliver and Monte Reimer Oliver.
He was married to Hazel Marion Trayler Oliver, who died Jan. 6, 1993.
He was employed as a truck driver by Clark Transfer.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy G. Davis of Ringgold, Karla K. Reynolds of Cooper City, Fla., and Monta L. Derossett of Cobden, Ill.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be conducted for the family.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
