Essie Wilson
Essie Maude Wilson, 96, 110 Old Greensboro Highway, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in her residence.
Born Oct. 7, 1899, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William Davis and Mary Sue Douglas.
She was self-employed and a member of High Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by many cousins.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Jerome Morris Sr. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Dwight Fitzgerald
JAVA - Dwight D. Fitzgerald, 48, 9577 Halifax Road, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 28, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Helen Motley.
He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. During the Vietnam War, he served in the Army. He was also a member of Shockoe Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Waller of Chatham and Crystal D. Fitzgerald of Halifax; and two brothers, Jerry Motley of Washington, D.C., and Michael W. Motley of Java.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Motley.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from Shockoe Baptist Church by the Rev. G.H. Pass. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Elnora Heffinger
Elnora Newton Heffinger, 73, 1201 Rosemary Lane, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in her residence, following a year of declining health.
Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Kannapolis, N.C., she was a daughter of Pearly A. Newton and Martha Rachel Boyd Newton.
She spent her life in the Danville area, where she was employed by Smith Veneer Corp. as a wood inspector until her retirement. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of Riveroak Church of God, and served as a prayer warrior for the church.
Survivors include a son, Paul Heffinger of Danville; three daughters, Eileen Gregory and Lisa Heffinger, both of Danville, and Trena Wolf of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Warren Andrew Newton.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Riveroak Church of God by the Rev. Tim Hill and the Rev. Tim Nuckels. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Riveroak Church of God, and other times at the residence.

John Jeter
RICHMOND - John Robert Jeter, 77, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1996.
He was married
to Virginia Dix Jeter, who predeceased him.
During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater.
He attended Averett College and Smithfield Massey College.
For 30 years, he was employed by Defense General Supply and also by Southern States Cooperative.
He was a member of Westhampton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by a brother, Thomas R. Jeter of San Antonio.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996, at Highland Burial Park.

John Lewis
WALKERTOWN, N.C. - John Reid Lewis, 45, of Walkertown, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, in Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 4, 1950, in Dry Fork, Va., he was a son of Willie Thomas Lewis and Emma Giles Lewis.
He was a member of North Carolina Hell's Angels, Winston-Salem Chapter. He was also manager of Willie's Honky Tonk at Ogburn Station.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Lewis of Tobaccoville; five brothers, Ray Lewis and Jimmy Lewis, both of Sutherland, Va., W.T. Lewis of Macon, Ga., Barry Lewis of Danville, Va., and Terry Lewis of Winston-Salem; a sister, Joyce Chaney of Virginia; his step-father, Burton Mills of Danville, Va.; his fiance, Patty Watson of Welcome; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Parklawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bill Chatman. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Chapel, Winston-Salem.
Maggie Adkins
GRETNA - Maggie Elizabeth Adkins, 84, of Route 4, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996.
Born Feb. 2, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William David Barber and Mattie Elizabeth Doss Barber.
She was married
to Moncie Willard Adkins, who survives.
She was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Wesley Adkins of Gretna; four daughters, Joyce A. Bennett, Nancy A. Stone and Elizabeth A. Boggs, all of Hurt, and Katherine A. Dowdy of Lynch Station; three sisters, Lena B. Barber, Essie B. Watson, and Florence B. Haskins, all of Reidsville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4:30 p.m. Saturday from Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel in Gretna by Dr. Lynn Marstin and the Rev. Billy Robertson. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.

Buddy Anderson
Buddy R. Anderson, 61, 84 Arnett Blvd., died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following a heart attack.
Born May 31, 1935, in Danville, he was a son of Mack R. Anderson and Bertha Chapman Anderson.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was employed by Thermax as a salesman. He was also of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Randall Anderson of Danville; two brothers, Billy Lee Anderson of Evington and Bobby K. Anderson of Tennessee; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Highland Burial Park by Dr. Charles B. Scearce. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Walter Eubanks
Walter E. Eubanks, 63, 165 Franklin Court, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Union, S.C., he was a son of Yancey E. Eubanks and Eva Bailey Eubanks.
On April 9, 1955, he was married
to Barbara Melton Eubanks, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was employed by the city as a fire inspector for 38 years. He was scheduled to retire Sept. 30, 1996.
He was a member of the local chapter of the March of Dimes and of College Park Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, James "Jim" Eubanks of Millersville, Md.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Michael Rockwell. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Cassie Hall
BLAIRS - Cassie Dodd Hall, 83, 180 Blair Circle, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born Jan. 12, 1913, in Keeling, she was a daughter of John Willie Dodd and Alice Slayton Dodd.
On Nov. 12, 1949, she was married
to Harry Weldon Hall, who survives.
She was a member of Blairs Baptist Church, where she worked with the children's ministry for 20 years. She was a homemaker who spent her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a sister, Frances Dodd Clifton of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Blairs Baptist Church by the Rev. Luther L. Lemon and the Rev. Roy Newton. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Alma Owen
CHATHAM - Willie Alma Davis Owen, 83, 1423 Parrish Road, State Road 816, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 25, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Bruce Edward Davis and Sarah Jefferson Davis.
She was married
to Oscar Wray Owen, who survives.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include six sons, William E. Owen of Greensboro, N.C., Wyatt L. Owen and Nelson W. Owen, both of Danville, Tommy D. Owen and Lonzie A. Owen, both of Chatham, and Daniel F. Owen of Cascade; six daughters, Jean O. Adkins of Lynchburg, Mary O. Goodbar of Rustburg, Mildred O. Bradner of Chatham, Virginia O. Dalton of Danville, Darnell O. Johnston of Pelham, N.C., and Nadine O. Carpenter of Cascade; 20 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Ruby Mae Owen, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and by three sisters.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Gilbert Hawks, the Rev. Kenneth Hall, and the Rev. J.B. Baldridge. Burial will be in the Shelton-Owen Family cemetery in Museville.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, and other times at the residence of Mildred and Bennie Bradner, 1421 Parrish Road, State Road 816.
Bobby Parker
Bobby Lee Parker, 40, 98 Schoolfield Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996, in his residence.
Born April 9, 1956, in Danville, he was a son of Hazel Weeks Parker, who survives, and Clarence William Parker.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of the residence, he is survived by a son, Steven Abbott of Danville.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from Schoolfield cemetery by the Rev. David R. Turbyfill. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Richard Powell
ROCKLEDGE, FLA. - Richard Eugene Powell, 46, 227 Rockledge Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996, in Westhoff Memorial Hospital.
Born July 2, 1950, in Greensboro, N.C., he was a son of Dallas E. and Eva Sue Morris Powell, who survive.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a self-employed carpenter.
He served in Vietnam, where he was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received the Vietnamese Service medal with four stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm.
In addition to his parents of Danville, Va., he is survived by a brother, Robert K. Powell of Danville, Va.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. today from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Kyle Flora. The family will receive friends at the residence of his parents, 203 Westview Drive, Danville, Va.
