Lila Chattin

Lila Pruitt Chattin, 78, 540 South Woodberry Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born March 18, 1918, in Danville, she was a daughter of Edward Pruitt and Earla Toler Pruitt.
She was married to Willie Albert Chattin, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. in production control.
She was a member of Woodberry Hill Baptist Church, where she served on the social committee and was a member of Fidilis Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Jay Robert Chattin of Danville; a sister, Myrtle Matkins of Danville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a brother, Ollie Pruitt.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from Woodberry Hills Baptist Church by the Rev. Lewis P. Harris. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Thomas Davis

Thomas Lee Davis, 47, 1764 Mt. Cross Road, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center.
Born April 13, 1949, in Conway, S.C., he was a son of Jean Wallace Alderson, who survives, and Joe Carroll Davis Sr.
He was married to Pamela Taylor Davis, who survives.
He was employed as a meat cutter for Fresh and Friendly Supermarket in South Boston. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother of Danville and his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Thomas Lee Davis Jr. of Summerville, S.C., and Jamie Rae Davis of the residence; two step-sons, Tommy Earle of Danville and Timothy Earle of Newport News; two sisters, Peggy Davis Saunders of Danville and Kelly Ann Alderson of Tempe, Ariz.; and a brother, Joe Carroll Davis Jr. of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. James Albert. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his brother, 344 Lansbury Drive.

Welton Elliott

Welton Elliott, 44, 744 Lee Street, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 24, 1952, in Danville, he was a son of Della McCargo Elliott.
He was employed by Dimon Inc. for many years.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Ferguson, Iretha Lee, and Linda Harris, all of Danville; and three brothers, William Henry Elliott, Walter Thomas Elliott, and Henry Lee Elliott, all of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Reginald Goods. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Cecil Hubbard

CALLANDS - Cecil Randolph Hubbard, 79, 15413 Callands Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 14, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Gilbert Hubbard and Lucille Hubbard Hubbard Davis.
He was married to Mary Gladys Wells Hubbard, who died in 1993.
He was a member of County Line Christian Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Richmond Times Dispatch Newspapers as a local distribution manager.
Survivors include three daughters, Norma Jean Walker of Callands, Margaret H. Shelton of Chatham, and Alva H. Allen of Goochland; two sons, Wendell R. Hubbard of Collinsville and Harold H. Hubbard of Danville; a half-sister, Sylvia D. Seabolt of South Boston; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from County Line Christian Church by the Minister Dean Ashby and Minister J.D. Hunt III. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence.
Scott Funeral Home of Chatham is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Dettmar-Prillaman

HARTFORD, ALA. - Nancy Lee Dettmar-Prillaman, 74, 301 Carol St., died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, in Wiregrass Nursing Home.
She was first married to Robert L. Dettmer Sr., who died in 1966. She later married Walter E. Prillaman, who survives.
Before moving to Hartford, she had lived in Danville, Va. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsville, Va.
In addition to her husband of Hartford, survivors include two sons, Robert L. Dettmar Jr. of Geneva and William G. Dettmar of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Elsie Martin of Danville, Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. William Blalock. The family will receive friends 2:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel.

Clyne Pugh

The funeral for David Clyne Pugh, 82, 419 Airport Drive, will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Riveroak Church of God by the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Robert Hackworth. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 11, 1914, in Danville, he was a son of Arch Simmons Pugh and Marsella Huff Pugh.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel Gaynell Brown Pugh, who died Dec. 8, 1992. He was later married to Edna Ivadell Clark Pugh, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he formerly owned and operated A.S. Pugh Roofing Co. He also attended Riveroak Church of God.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Pugh Browder of Danville; three step-daughters, Delores C. Jayne and Sue C. Quinn, both of Danville, and Becky C. Gravely of Ringgold; a step-son, Buddy Clark of Rockwell, N.C.; two brothers, Fred Pugh and Allen Pugh, both of Danville; four sisters, Virginia Yeatts, Bobbie East and Frances Cooper, all of Danville, and Alma Nance of Nashville, Tenn.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence of his daughter, Rebecca Pugh Browder, 730 Holland Road.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claude 'Hoody' Reece

ROANOKE - The funeral for Claude "Hoody" Reece, 78, 4645 Elna Road N.W., will be conducted 4 p.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Danny Parker. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996, in the Veterans Administration Hospital of Salem. He had been in declining health since 1989.
Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Danville, he was a son of William Reece and Annie Hodge Reece.
He was married to Leona Akers Reece, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Alexandria and Danville, but had lived in Roanoke for the past two years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a carpenter. He was also a member of Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Patrick Reece of Mine Run; three daugthers, Loretta Phillips of Kwajalain, Marshall Islands, Randy Reese of Alexandria, and Jennifer Sheldon of Hawaii; three step-sons, Stephen Akers of Roanoke, and Bobby Akers and David Akers, both of Danville; a sister, Marie DeMott of Danville; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Hermis and Marie McGee, 141 Laramie Circle.

Nancy Rogers

Nancy Motley Rogers, 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 9, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald Motley of Banister Mills Estates.
She was married to Sidney Mills Rogers Sr., who died Dec. 19, 1960.
She spent her life in Danville, where she graduted from Randolph Macon Institute. She was also a graduate of Richmond College in Roanoke.
She was a local business woman, who was a member of the Virginia Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Dorethea Henry Chapter, DAR, and the Wednesday Club.
She was a long-time member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Sidney Mills Rogers Jr. of Richmond; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Richard Cobb. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Townes Funeral Home.

William 'Joe' Snead

William O. "Joe" Snead, 73, 1404 West Main St., died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, in his residence.
Born Nov. 12, 1922, in Danville, he was a son of Eustice Sidney "Buck" Snead and Elizabeth Drumwright Snead.
He spent most of his life in Baltimore, but had lived in Danville for the past four years. He was retired from the restaurant business.
He is survived by six nieces and two nephews.
The body will be cremated.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Tate

SUTHERLIN - Bertha Lucille Tate, 79, 1096 McNeely Lane in the Laurel Grove Community, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 6, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Bob Tate and Annie Brown Tate.
She spent her entire life in the Laurel Grove Community.
She is survived by a sister, Hazel Tate of Sutherlin; and a brother, Robert E. Tate of Ringgold.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the Tate-Irby Family cemetery, Laurel Grove Community, State Route 810, by the Rev. Mark Blair. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis, 264 Lewis Lane.

Carolyn Griffin

A graveside service for Carolyn Fox Griffin, 55, 265 Pineview Road, Lot 3, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Highland Burial Park by Jim Pendry.
She died Friday, Sept. 20, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1941, in Danville, she was a daughter of Jesse Eugene Fox and Dorothy Owen Fox.
On Oct. 11, 1961, she was married to Howard Kympton Griffin, who survives.
She spent her entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She was employed by the former Danville Memorial Hospital as a nurse until her health began to fail. She attended the Danville Bible Chapel.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a son, Howard K. Griffin II of Danville; and three brothers, Hoyt Eugene Fox of Brandenton, Fla., Michael J. Fox and Rickie L. Fox, both of Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Michael and Betty Fox, 526 Rosemary Lane, off Westover Drive.
Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
