Chaney Price

Chaney Turner Price, 80, 747 Arnett Boulevard, died Saturday, June 22, 1996, in her residence.
Born June 18, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Henry and Savage Turner.
She was predeceased by her husband, Weldon Price.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Lorrilard Tobacco Co.
Survivors include three sons, Marvin Price and Ivy Price, both of Danville, and Elwood Price of Winston Salem, N.C.; six stepsons, George Price, Preston Price and Robert Lee Price, all of Danville, John Price of Milton, N.C., and James Price and Boisau Price, both of Baltimore; two daughters, Loretta Wilson of Landover, Md., and Clara Dockery of Bowie, Md.; three stepdaughters, Eva Anderson and Carolyn McCaden, both of Baltimore, and Ruth Tucker of Danville; a brother, Jesse Turner of Richmond; and a sister, Louise Turner of Newport News.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home, with burial in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence and at 61 Morris Ave.

Harry Phelps Sr.

Harry Lester Phelps Sr., 58, of Route 6, in the Bachelors Hall community, died Sunday, June 23, 1996, in his residence. He had been disabled for five years.
Born April 27, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Walker Phelps and Callie Wilson Phelps.
He was married to Judy Lane Dixon Phelps, who survives.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Harry Lester Phelps Jr. of Mount Cross Road and Dorsey Lee Phelps of Dry Fork; three daughters, Gloria Lane Phelps and Shawna Lynn Phelps, both of Mount Cross Road, and Linda Sue Walker of Dry Fork; four brothers, Raymond Phelps and Robert Phelps, both of Cascade, and Burton Phelps and Johnny James Phelps, both of Danville; two sisters, Della McDaniel of Cascade and Josephine Beverly of Danville; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Curtis Scotton.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a brother, Robert Phelps, in Cascade of Route 952, and also at the residence of a son, Harry Lester Phelps Jr., Beechwood Trailer Park, Lot #4, off Mount Cross Road.

James Adkins

James Phil Adkins, 45, 3702 Westover Drive, Westover Hills, died Thursday, June 27, 1996, in his residence.
Born June 27, 1951, in Danville, he was a son of Ruth Hamlett Adkins, who survives, and Lelon Adkins.
He was married to Joni James Adkins, who survives.
He was employed by Cablevision Industries.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the First Marine Division. In 1986 and 1988, he was commander of VFW Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, and his mother of Danville, survivors include a son, Eric Adkins of the residence; two sisters, Ruthie Dillard and Carol Combs, both of Ringgold; and a brother, Michael Adkins of Chatham.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert L. Vermillion. Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Memorial Post #325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Saturday at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Nathaniel Buckner

Nathaniel Calvin Buckner, 72, 157 Oakwood Circle, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following a three-week hospital stay. He had been in declining health since April.
Born July 19, 1923, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Calvin Thomas Buckner and Bertha Morton Buckner.
On Jan. 31, 1952, he was married to Pearline Hill Buckner, who survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by A.C. Monk Tobacco Co. as a tobacconist.
During World War II, he served in the Army. He was a member of VFW Post #647 and of the American Legion Post #325.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Marlon Thomas Buckner of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Teresa B. Jackson of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Denise B. Saunders of Danville; five sisters, Virginia Tingen of Roxboro, N.C., Gertrude Whitfield of Hurdle Mills, N.C., Selma Ellington of Burlington, N.C., Irene Korman of Waterford, WI, and Marie Herbert of Charleston, S.C.; a granddaughter, Brooke Jackson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two grandsons, Dylan Jackson of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Zachary Saunders of Danville.
He was predeceased by two brothers, C.H. "Buck" Buckner and Paul Buckner, and by two sisters, Patty Gauldin and Mary Allen.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, by the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. Jerry Key. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be given by American Legion Post #325.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Baby Harris

Jalisa Renee Harris, nine months, 2993 Medical Center Road, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born Oct. 17, 1995, she was a daughter of Samuel and Evelyn Wilson Harris, who survive.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her paternal grandmother, Rosetta Harris of Danville; and her maternal grandparents, Ray and Deloris Wilson, both of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the Harris Family cemetery, in Callands, by the Elder Charlie Witcher.
Miller Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Willis Landrum Sr.

RADFORD - The funeral for Willis Alfred Landrum Sr., 75, 6704 Dudley Ferry Road, will be conducted 11 a.m. today from the chapel of Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Danny Collins. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
He died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, in Carilion-Radford Community Hospital, following six months of declining health.
Born May 22, 1921, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Landrum.
He was married to Barbara Winn Landrum, who died April 26, 1992.
He spent most of his life in Richmond, until moving to Radford four years ago.
He was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church in Radford.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Lowe's of Richmond in the parts and service department. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Mangus of Danville, and Lisa Landrum of Radford; a son, Willis Alfred Landrum Jr. of Martinsville; a step-daughter, Debbie Linkous of Radford; a brother, Jesse Landrum of South Boston; and five grandchildren.

Roy Patterson

HURT - Roy James Patterson, 77, of Route 2, Hurt, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 24, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Clara Patterson Neal, who survives.
He was married to Irene Perkins Patterson, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Spring Road Baptist Church.
During World War II, he served in the Army. He was also a member of American Legion Post #232.
In addition to his wife of the residence, and his mother of Danville, survivors include five brothers, Howard Junior Patterson of Hurt, Harold Neal of Gladys, Avery Neal, Johnnie Neal, and Jack Neal, all of Danville; five sisters, Lucy Lewis of Barstow, Calif., Verla Murphy of Martinsville, Nannie Nevins, Mamie Pruitt, and Nellie Wallace, all of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Spring Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Obie Harward, the Rev. Gene Ashworth, and the Rev. Shelby Royal. Burial will be in the Rebecca Jane Parson Family cemetery.
Colbert-Moran Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Pruitt

Earl H. Pruitt, 46, 131 Third Avenue, died Thursday, June 27, 1996, in his residence.
Born Nov. 25, 1949, in Danville, he was a son of Annie Daniel Pruitt, who survives, and Willie Thomas Pruitt.
On Aug. 5, 1995, he was married to Faye Gwendolyn Fulton Pruitt, who survives.
He attended Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He grew up in the Gatewood community and attended Caswell County schools.
In addition to his wife of the residence, and his mother of Danville, survivors include a daughter, Angela Michele Pruitt of Lincoln Co., W.Va.; a son, Earl Wayne Pruitt of Danville; two step-sons, Jason Ryan Fulton and Joshua Kahzo Weaver, both of the residence; four sisters, Shirley P. Bradley, Doris L. Pruitt, Nancy P. Pruitt, and Lillie P. Lovelace, all of Danville; two brothers, Thomas Coleman Pruitt and David Wayne Pruitt, both of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday from Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Mike Hearp. Burial will be in Happy Home Christian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday from Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Alyce Stewart

A memorial service for Alyce Manley Stewart, 54, 615 Hunter St., will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from His Family Church in High Point, N.C., by Pastor Mike Stewart.
She died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health since 1988.
Born Feb. 21, 1942, in Jasper, Ala., she was a daughter of Jesse Manley and Hazel Brown Manley.
She was married to Robert Stewart, who died in 1988.
She had been living in Danville for the past three months.
She was employed as a legal secretary by Guilford Community College in High Point, N.C., until her health began to fail.
She was also a member of His Family Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Stewart Hicks of High Point, N.C.; and two sons, Jay Stewart of Danville, and Jeff Stewart of Harrisburg, N.C.
The family will receive friends at the church Saturday after the memorial service, and other times at the residence of a son, Jay Stewart, 615 Hunter St.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Percy Walker

The funeral for Percy D. Walker, 87, 413 Ferry Road, will be conducted 4 p.m. today from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce and the Rev. Roy W. Newton. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
He died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born March 26, 1909, in Danville, he was a son of Will Walker and Annie Ferguson Walker.
On Nov. 5, 1927, he was married to Mamie Saul Walker, who survives.
He spent his early life in Pelham, N.C., where he was a farmer. He lived in Danville for the past 43 years, where he was employed by Dan River Inc. He retired after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church and also a member of the Dan River Retired Workers Club.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Garland D. Walker of Pelham, Richard A. Walker of Danville, and Otha N. Walker of Hialeah, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley W. Massey of Danville, and Lottie W. Gee of Chatham; three sisters, Sue Walker and Louise Scearce, both of Danville, and Peggy Hawley of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Betty Myers

Betty Wayne Myers, 58, 745 Glendale Ave., died Thursday, June 27, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following a year of declining health.
Born March 13, 1938, in Somerset, Ky., she was a daughter of Sara Frances Rigney Hardwick, who survives, and Frank Hardwick.
She was married to Arvel P. Shrewsbury, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dairy Heart Restaurant as a cook.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her mother of Somerset, Ky., survivors include two daughters, Jerri Lynn Scearce of Danville, and Donna Jean Greer of Chicago; two sons, Richard Lee Girdler of Chicago, and Michael Lawrence Myers of Danville; four brothers; five sisters; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, by the Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 Sunday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
