Jack Francisco Jr.

Jack David Francisco Jr., 38, 111 Hermitage Drive, died Thursday, July 4, 1996, following a car accident on Route 265.
Born Jan. 31, 1958, in Danville, he was a son of Hazel Barksdale Francisco, who survives, and Jack D. Francisco.
He spent most of life in Danville, where he was a graduate of George Washington High School. He also completed two years at Danville Community College.
He was employed by Roadway Trucking Co. He was also a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include three sisters, Phyllis B. Neill of Newport News, Elaine F. Hargroves of Virginia Beach, and Gloria F. McGee of Danville; and a brother, Timothy R. Francisco of Danville.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Faith Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel Lackey.
The family will receive friends 7:30-9:00 tonight at the residence of his mother, 111 Hermitage Drive.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary George

Mary B. George, 92, formerly of 149 Benefield Ave., died Thursday, July 4, 1996, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born July 26, 1903, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William T. and Nannie Craft Byrd.
She was married to Garnett T. George, who died in 1957.
She was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a nutritionist in the VPI Office.
She was also a gold star mother.
Survivors include two daughters, Billye Farthing of Blairs, and Vickye Connelly of Charleston, S.C.; a foster daughter, Diane George Martin of Arizona; a foster son, Tommy Hodges of Charlotte, N.C., a sister, Sue Byrd Boswell of Chatham; and a brother, Roy P. Byrd of Chatham; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Johnson and the Rev. Adolf Otersen. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the Farthing residence, 155 Windflower Drive, Deerwood Springs, Blairs.

William Hudson Jr.

ALTON - William Frank Hudson Jr., 79, Route 2, Box 264, died Thursday, July 4, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1917, in Halifax County, he was a son of William F. Hudson Sr. and Elizabeth Wells Hudson.
He was married to Mildred Perkins Hudson, who survives.
He was a retired tobacco farmer and also a tradesman at Neal's Warehouse. During World War II, he served in the Army.
He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church, the Turbeville Ruritan Club, and V.F.W. Post 8243. He was also former county commissioner with the ASCS office.
In addition to his wife of Alton, survivors include a daughter, Anita H. Williams of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a sister, Annabel H. Smart of Danville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Ephesus Baptist Church by the Rev. Leonard Watlington. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, on Route 779.
Brooks Funeral Home of South Boston is in charge of arrangements.

Eva Musgrove

JAVA - Eva Musgrove, 72, 1000 Corner Road, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 13, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James and Virgie Pruitt Witcher.
She was married to Charlie Musgrove, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Lizzie Elaine Musgrove of Washington, D.C., Susan Musgrove of Edmeston, N.Y., and Ella Mae Musgrove of Hyattsville, Md.; seven sons, John Thomas Musgrove and Jessie James Musgrove, both of Washington, D.C., George T. Musgrove of Florida, Charlie Musgrove Jr. of Oxon Hill, Md., Silas Musgrove of Chesterfield, Tommy Musgrove of Fort Washington, Md., and Freddie Douglas Musgrove of Glade Hill; four sisters, Elsie Musgrove of Washington, D.C., Marie Gadson and Buelah Witcher, both of Pittsburgh, and Carolyn Cooke of Rocky Mount; a brother, Lawrence Witcher of Martinsville; 24 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday from Sandy Hill Baptist Church, in Sandy Level, by the Rev. Raymond Ramsey. Burial will be in the Mease cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Miller Funeral Home.

James "Jimmy" Scearce

RINGGOLD - James "Jimmy" Scearce, 77, 1041 Sandy Bottom Road, died Thursday, July 4, 1996, in his residence, following three months of declining health.
Born Aug. 22, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lee Roy James Scearce and Rosa Taylor Scearce.
He was married to Jean Owen Scearce, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area, where he owned and operated J & R Automotive Service before retiring in 1983.
He was of the Holiness faith.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Memorial Post #325. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the 361st Anti Tank Division and the 91st Infantry Division.
He was a race car driver in the modified division at South Boston Race Track, Bowman Gray, and other area race tracks from 1948 until 1967.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, James Milton Scearce Jr. of Roanoke, and David Wright of Cascade; two daughters, Stacey W. Stone of Danville, and Patricia W. Taylor of Ringgold; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Paul David Scearce Sr.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Carl E. Burger. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Memorial Post #325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Wilmer Webb

Wilmer Willard Webb, 52, 1616 North Main St., died Tuesday, July 2, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center.
Born Feb. 7, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willard Thomas Webb, who survives, and Ruby King Webb.
He was first married to Gladys Dixon Webb of Danville, and later married Velma Webb of Danville.
He was employed as a supervisor with Dan River Mills Inc. He was a member of Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his father of Sandy Level, survivors include a son, Tony Maurice Webb of Danville; and a brother, Harry T. Webb of Fayetteville, N.C.
He predeceased by a son, Tyrone Lamar Webb, and by a brother, Garry T. Webb.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Floyd Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Miller Funeral Home, in Gretna, and other times at the residence of his father, 5980 Jasmine Road, Sandy Level.

Elmer Bluher

Elmer D. Bluher, 73, 1152 Franklin Turnpike, Apt. F, and formerly of 741 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, died Friday, July 5, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for the past year.
Born July 13, 1922, in North Bend, Wash., he was a son of John Bluher and Myrtle Filson Bluher.
On March 7, 1946, he was married to Eva Gertrude Gammon Bluher, who survives.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area, where he was formerly employed by Dan River Inc. He also worked as an engineer for Tudor Ice Co., before joining U.S. Gypsum as a security guard.
He was a member of Calvary Church of Nazarene, the Dan River Retired Worker's Club, and the Poquoson Tribe No. 124 Improved Order of Red Men.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Linda B. Eanes of Danville; five sisters, Phyllis McCaffervy and Dorothy Daffer, both of Fall City, Wash., Vera Walker of Quincy, Wash., Vivian Mallery of Snoqualime, Wash., and Mary Syphers of Seattle; and three brothers, Kenneth Bluher of Fall City, Wash., Robert Bluher and Charles Bluher, both of Seattle.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Ronald E. Graham, the Rev. Roger L. Ewing, and the Rev. Barry Crumpton. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park, where military honors will be performed by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, 1152 Franklin Turnpike, Apt. B.

Gerald Groves

ARLINGTON - Gerald R. Groves, 80, of Arlington, died Sunday, June 30, 1996, in Cherrydale Healthcare Center, as a result of respiratory failure.
He was a native of Hornell, N.Y., and spent his early years in New York and Pennsylvania.
He was a graduate of George Washington University, where he received a B.A. and M.A. degree.
During World War II, he served in the army in Europe.
He taught English and history in Arlington County schools for 30 years. Following his retirement in 1982, he was a realtor in Arlington until 1992.
He was a member of the Arlington Education Association, where he served as president in 1964-1965.
He was married to Celeste Bishop Groves, who survives, for 37 years.
In addition to his wife of Arlington, survivors include two sons, Michael William Groves of Hudson, N.H., and Glenn Richard Groves of Arlington; a daughter, Kelly Davidson of Fairfax; a ward, Daisy Hash Krout of Arlington; two brothers and two sisters, all of Meadville, Pa.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mountain View cemetery of Danville.

Jacqueline Moyer

ROANOKE - Jacqueline Mildred Jones Moyer, 74, died Friday, July 5, 1996.
Born Dec. 1, 1921, in Danville, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Posey H. Jones Sr.
She was married to Rev. Virgil A. Moyer Jr., who survives.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Roanoke, and of the Thursday Morning Music Club.
In addition to her husband of Roanoke, survivors include a son, Keith Moyer of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Lee Jones of Danville; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Posey H. Jones Jr. of Cincinnati.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday from Christ Lutheran Church, Brandon and Grandin, by the Rev. Robin Henrickson, the Rev. Mark Radecke, the Rev. Dwayne Westermann, and Bishop Richard Bansemer.
Oakey's Funeral Services of Roanoke is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Powell

Richard L. Powell, 78, 282 Vandola Road, died Friday, July 5, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three months of declining health.
Born July 15, 1917, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Ira C. Powell and Lula Lester Powell.
On June 27, 1936, he was married to Inez London Powell, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Vandola community, where he was a farmer and worked for Dan River Mills Inc. for 30 years.
He was a member of Vandola Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Shelby Gammon of Danville, and Brenda Dix of Ringgold; a son, David Powell of Roxboro, N.C.; three brothers, Luther Powell, Jack Powell, and John Powell, all of Danville; three sisters, Margaret Keen, Lula Mae Reynolds, and Sadie Collins, all of Reidsville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by Dr. Leroy Clack. Burial will be in Moss Family cemetery on Vandola Road.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
