Doris Wilson

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. - The funeral for Doris Dodson Wilson, 75, 156 Forestdale Drive, Danville, Va., will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Shockoe Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Huff. Interment will be in the Highland Burial Park.
She died Saturday, April 13, 1996, in the Palm Beach Medical Center.
Born Nov. 27, 1920, in Spring Garden, Va., she was a daughter of Noel F. Dodson and Irene Atkinsson Dodson.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Lynwood Wilson.
She was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris W. Blair of Suffolk, Va. and Betty W. Johnson of North Palm Beach; three sisters, Janie D. Adams of Java, Va., Frances D. Adams of Danville and Rebecca D. Gibson of Chatham, Va.; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:30-9 tonight at Scott Funeral Home, in Chatham, and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gibson, 101 Woodlawn Heights, Chatham.

William Blair

William Ray Blair, 60, 49 Carlson Ave., died Thursday, April 18, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center, following a year of declining health.
Born May 17, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John W. Blair and Gladys Wright Blair.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Faye Burchett Blair.
He was employed by Dan River Mills in the No. 5 Finishing Dept., until his retirement in October 1995.
While living most of his life in Danville, he was of the Methodist and Nazarene faith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, the Rev. Daniel Ray Blair and William Michael Blair, both of Danville, and David Lee Blair of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Kathy Sue Braden of Goldsboro, N.C., and Lisa Faye Blair of Danville; one brother, Thomas Blair of Chatham; two sisters, Roslyn Harris of Chatham and Elizabeth Jones of Dry Fork; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Myron D. Bruce, the Rev. Daniel Blair and the Rev. Ronald Graham. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence and at the home of his sister, Roslyn Harris of Chatham.

Charity Brown

Charity Jennings Brown, 74, 507 Gay St., died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 11, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Joel Jennings and Dora Fuller.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Brown.
She was employed by the Danville Regional Medical Center as a nurse's assistant.
She was also a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one brother, Joe A. Jennings of Chatham; and four sisters, Lena Jones of Washington, D.C., Virginia Law and Amy Morton, both of Dry Fork, and Nannie Jones of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Loyal Baptist Church by the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell. Burial will be in the Floral Mills Memory Gardens.
The body may be viewed 4-8:00 tonight at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Jack Carr Sr.

RINGGOLD - Jack Carr Sr., 92, Route 1, Ringgold, and formerly of 44 Morris Ave., Danville, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 14, 1904, in Nelson County.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Wade Carr, and also by a son, Jack Carr Jr.
He served in the 29th Tank Company of the Va. National Guard from 1921 until 1929. He also owned and operated West End Filling Station in Salem during the 1930s.
After returning to Danville, he was employed by Dan River Inc. and by the Danville Golf Club. He also worked at the Senior Citizens' Center as a recreation coordinator.
Survivors include one son, Richard L. Carr of Hampton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Barker Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim White. Interment will be in the Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Marian Fuller

The funeral for Marian Camper Fuller, 93, of the Stratford House, and formerly of Blacksburg, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany by the Rev. Jim Matherson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
She died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 27, 1902, in Orange County, she was a daughter of William Francis Jerdone Camper and Cora Lee Rogers Camper.
She was married to Dr. Landon E. Fuller, who survives.
She lived most of her married life in Blacksburg.
She was a graduate of Longwood College, and pursued her graduate work at the University of Virginia.
She was an English teacher, who worked in Charlottesville, Whitmell, Woodbridge and Tazewell high schools.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
The family will receive friends at the residence, Stratford House Apartment #302.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elinor Gignac

PALOS HEIGHTS, ILL. - Elinor Golterman Gignac, 88, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, in Palos Community Hospital.
She was married to Alfred C. Gignac, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three step-sons, Robert Gignac, Roy Gignac, and Kenneth Gignac; 21 step-grandchildren; and 28 step-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 9:15 a.m. today from John Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, in Palos Heights, Ill. Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. today at St. Michael Church, in Orland Park, Ill. Burial will be in Concordia cemetery, in Forest Park, Ill.

James Hamlett

James Willie Hamlett, 75, 123 New Ingram Road, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 5, 1920, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of John Franklin Hamlett and Lillie Pryor Hamlett.
While living most of his life in the Danville area, he was employed as a dairy farmer and later as a land surveyor.
He was a member of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Doris Turner of Ringgold and Peggy Brown of Danville; and four brothers, Giles Hamlett, Robert Hamlett and Harold Hamlett, all of Danville, and Neal Hamlett of Kernersville, N.C.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from the Hamlett Family cemetery by the Rev. Wayne Wallace.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Lavinder

Annie Laura Travis Lavinder, 98, 229 Brandon Court, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in her residence.
Born Jan. 5, 1898, in Caswell County, N.C., she was a daughter of Benjamin Claiborne Travis and Laura Goodson Travis.
She was married to George Ballard Lavinder, who died in 1957.
She was employed by C&P Telephone Co., for 40 years, until her retirement. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann L. Crannis of Danville; one son, George B. Lavinder Jr. of Martinsville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Cleveland Duke. The family will receive friends at the daughter's residence, 229 Brandon Court.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

George White

FOREST - The funeral for George Willard White, 82, formerly of Holland Road in Pelham, N.C., will be conducted 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Wayne Wallace and the Rev. Fred Cox. Burial will be in the Mt. View cemetery, where Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Ramah Masonic Lodge #70.
He died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at his son's residence.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Clay White.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Ramah Masonic Lodge #70 and the Danville Shrine Club.
He was a also a member of the National Radio Patrol and served many years on various rescue squads as an EMT.
He was employed by Southern Railroad for 32 years, and Thompson-Arthur Paving for 14 years.
Survivors include one son, Richard White of Forest; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his granddaughter, Laura Dickens, 124 Oak Ridge Lane, off Vandola Road.

Ruby White

Ruby Womack White, 99, 41 Stokesland Ave., died Thursday, April 18, 1996, in her residence.
Born July 18, 1896, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Dallas Womack and Mary Emma Blankenship Womack.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Pritchett White.
She spent her early years in the Kentuck area, but later moved to Danville.
She was employed by Dan River Mills Inc., in the No. 5 Sewing Room, until her retirement in 1959. She was also a member of the Dan River Retired Club.
She was a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church, until she changed her membership to Schoolfield United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Inez W. Hangelia of the residence; one brother, Johnny Percy Womack of Danville; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. James Grogan. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Melva Adkins

PENHOOK - Melva Amos Adkins, 75, died Saturday, April 20, 1996, in Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include four sons, Wayne Adkins of Rocky Mount, Barry Adkins and Randy Adkins, both of Penhook, and Dennis Adkins of Pittsville; one daughter, Nancy Plybon of Penhook; one sister, Evelyn Turner of Danville; three brothers, J.C. Amos of Rocky Mount, Sam Amos and Nelson Amos, both of Penhook; and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forrest Hill Christian Church by Minister Ted Clifton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed after 2 p.m. today, and family will receive friends 7-9 tonight, and at other times at the home of a son, Barry Adkins of 342 S. Main St., Penhook.
