Maxine Allen
Maxine Allen, 28, of Troy died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at her residence.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Victor Williams, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at the Springfield Baptist Church, Zion Crossroads. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her parents, George W. Allen and Elsie Mae Brown Allen, both of Troy; a brother, Shawn Tyree Allen of Troy; her grandparents, Jessie and Minnie Brown of Troy and Eva Allen of Louisa; seven uncles; nine aunts; and a host of other relatives.
Miss Allen was born July 3, 1972 in Charlottesville. She was preceded in death by a brother, George W. Allen Jr.
Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville, handled the arrangements.

George B. Bland
George Beauford Bland, 75, of Columbia, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Byrd Grove Baptist Church, Kents Store. Interment was in the family cemetery at the home of Mr. Bland.
He is survived by five sons, John Taylor of Columbia, George Bland Jr. and his wife, Joann, of Palmyra, Daniel Bland of Washington, D.C., Douglas Bland and his wife, Thelma of Fort Washington, Maryland, and David Bland and his wife, Hope, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; eight daughters, Geraldine Price and her husband, Curtis, of Hyattesville, Maryland, Janice Key and her husband, Leonard, of Columbia, Sandra Christmas and her husband, George, of Palmyra, Donna Burruss and her husband, Robert, of Keswick, Marilyn Randolph and her husband, Timothy, of New Carrollton, Maryland, Ernestine Randolph and her husband, Michael, of Lanham, Maryland; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosa Morton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Beatrice Ferron of Columbia, and Shirley Hawthrone of Palmyra; his mother-in-law, Susan Jackson of Palmyra; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Bland of Columbia and Margaret Bland of Maryland; five aunts, Florida Payne and Hycianth Harris, both of Columbia, Henrietta Chamber of Gladstone, Evelyn Cooper of Charlottesville, and Ruth McCloud of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Bland was born December 25, 1925, a son of the late Felix and Martha Bland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sallie Elnora Bland; a son, Jerome Bland; a sister, Dorothy Harris; and three brothers, Frank, Melton and John Bland.
He was in the United States Army, having served in World War II and was a member of the VFW.
Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, handled the arrangements.

Betty F. Branham
Betty Mae Fincham Branham, 67, of Gordonsville died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Larry Hastings and Rev. Bob Maphis, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Gordonsville. Interment will be in Maplewood cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie F. “Chuck” Branham; a daughter, Belvia Branham Riner of Charlottesville; two sons, Charlie W. Branham and his wife, Bonnie, of Saint Cloud, Florida, and Donald Wade Branham and his fiancé, Carolyn Roof, both of Gordonsville; two brothers, David Fincham of Gordonsville and Haywood Fincham of New York; three sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Madie Smith and Shirley Rogers, all of Gordonsville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Branham was born October 25, 1933 in Orange County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Minnie Moubray Fincham. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Fincham.
She was a member of the Gordonsville VFW Post #7638 Ladies Auxiliary and Gordonsville Christian Church.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Gordonsville.

Catherine G. Carnes
Catherine V. Grimm Hix Carnes, 71, of Mineral, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Woodward Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa. Interment was in the Grimm family cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Irving and her husband, Bill, of Roanoke; two sons, Sam Hix of Mineral and John Hix and his wife, Beth, of Newport, Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Cindy Holloman and her husband, Kenny, Christy Irving, Joshua Kipperling, Jessica Webler, and Zachery Hix; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Haillie Holloman; four sisters, Hazel Puryear and her husband, Bob, of Richmond, Margaret Wood and her husband, Calvin, of Germantown, Maryland, Marilyn Brooks and her husband, Jasper, of Spotsylvania, and Betty Arnold and her husband, Harry, of Montpelier; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carnes was the daughter of the late Lydia and Benjamin Grimm. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Grimm; two half sisters, Velvier Mays and Marion Keith; and two husbands, Cecil Hix and Henry Carnes.

Alton Glass
Alton “Pete” Glass, 54, of Louisa County died Friday, March 16, 2001.
A memorial service, conducted by Joe Stephenson, was held on Sunday, March 18 at the Victory Christian Fellowship, Gum Spring.
He is survived by his wife, Lourdes Glass; five children, Anita, Valerie, Jeffrey, Daniel and Christopher; six grandchildren; Jennifer, Savannah, Tyler, Brittany, Destiny and little Daniel; two sisters, Doris Atkins and JoAnn Glass, both of Gum Spring; two nephews, Brian and Charles Atkins Jr.; a niece, Donna Searles of Mineral; and a devoted cousin, Carol Smith, her son, John, and family.
Mr. Glass was born April 9, 1946, the son of the late Ruby Glass.

Lillian E. Hamelin
Lillian E. “Mere” Hamelin, 96, of New York, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 23 from St. Peters Church. Interment was in the Mt. Carmel cemetery.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Charles J. Carr, and his wife, Cecelia of Punia Gorda, Florida; seven grandchildren, their spouses and children, Susan and Michael Lawson and their son, Robert, of Peru, Nancy and Glen Elmore and their children, Amber Gibson and her husband, Michael, Brian and Theresa Elmore, all of Louisa, Janice and Richard Gumtow of San Diego, California, Betty and Larry Ebere and their children, Jodi and Chad, all of Rouses Point, Judy and Kenneth Otis and their son, Kris, of Cornwall, Pennsylvania, their daughter, Megan Ervay and her husband, Corey, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Toma and Mickey Matott and their daughter, Macee, of Mooers Forks, Joni Styles and her companion, Chris Bancomb, and their children, Kayla and Nickolas, of Plattsburgh; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd LaFountaine and his wife, Myrtle, of St. Albans, Vermont; and other relatives.
Mrs. Hamelin was born April 9, 1904 in Champlain, a daughter of the late Bert and Ludia Monette LaFountaine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Hamelin; her only child, Margaret Jane Carr; a brother, Wilmer LaFountaine; and a nephew.
She was a member of many senior citizens clubs, an avid bingo player and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of St. Peters Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in ember of her daughter, Margaret Jane Carr.

Emma W. Harris
Emma W. Harris. 73, of Pendleton died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 at Elk Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, William T. Harris; a son, Tommy Harris; three daughters, Nancy Lou Harris, Martha Ola Harris Rubin and Elizabeth Harris Ferris; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Dickinson of Mineral and Martha W. High of McLean; a brother, Hidmore Walton Jr. of Orange; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Audrey P. Holley
Audrey Payne Holley, 91, of Boswell Tavern, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at her residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev.. Greg Compton, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Boswell Tavern. Interment was in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann H. Phillips and her husband, Warren, of Keswick and Mary H. Wills and her husband, Pete, of Boswell Tavern; five sons, Harold H. Holley and his wife, Doris, and Randy B. Holley and his wife, Mary Ann, all of Hinton, West Virginia, Otis W. Holley and his wife, Nan, of Staunton, Keith P. Holley and friend, Lynda Birckhead, of Charlottesville, and Everett C. Holley and his wife, Patsy, of Cleburne, Texas; four grandchildren she helped raise, Kimberly H. Sand of Houston, Texas, Samuel C. Hudson of Memphis, Tennessee, Allen Leake of Ruckersville, and Bobby Leake of Thelma; one brother, Carroll S. Payne and his wife, Audrey, of Zion; two sisters, Carrie P. Harris of Thelma and Hilda P. Taylor of Gordonsville; a daughter-in-law, Sue Holley of Boswell Tavern; a son-in-law, Bo Coiner of Coco, Florida; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Holley was born January 6, 1910 in Louisa County, a daughter of the late Everett F. and Mary Hamm Payne. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Holley Sr. who died in 1968; two daughters, Virginia H. Leake and Susie H. Coiner; one son, James L. Holley Jr.; a sister, Edna P.Williams; and three brothers, Earl Payne, Roy M. Payne and Ernest Payne.
She was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Piedmont Home Demonstration Club and active in many church and community affairs.

Talmadge R. Jackson
Talmadge Ray Jackson, 67, of Bumpass died Friday, March 23, 2001.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 in the Jackson family cemetery., Cub Creek Rd., Bumpass.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle A. Jackson; a son, Charles Groggs of Bumpass; a daughter, Bessie Crowe of Maryland; and two grandsons.
Mr. Jackson was retired from the federal government.
Lacy Funeral Home, Mineral, handled the arrangements.
