Raymond L. Cosner
Raymond Lester Cosner, 67, of Richmond, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 26 at the Sheridan Funeral Home Chapel, Kents Store. Interment was in Perkins Baptist Church cemetery, Goochland.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel J. Cosner; a daughter, Charlotte A. Cosner and her husband, Rick, of North Carolina; a sister, Ruby C. Kelley and her husband, J. C., of Pennsylvania; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Cosner was born April 14, 1935 in Fluvanna County, the son of the late Lester Vivian and Virginia Melton Cosner.
He was a member of Perkins Baptist Church; was a veteran of the U. S. Army; and a retired electrician. He was retired from Cornell and Waldbauer.

William F. Goodwin
William F. Goodwin, 78, of Amelia, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Ken Marken, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 1 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Powhatan.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, August 1 at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Lynn Owen and her husband, Andrew; a son, William Todd Goodwin and his wife, Annalisa; four grandchildren, Darcy and Cole Owen and Connor and Kaitlyn Marie Goodwin.
Mr. Goodwin was born November 10, 1923 in Louisa, the son of the late Frank and Nannie Goodwin.
He was a farmer and a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, having served in the Philippines.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, is handling the arrangements.

Mae C. Hall
Mae C. Hall, 81, of Colonial Heights, formerly of Louisa County, died Friday, July 26, 2002 at her residence.
Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Marshall O. Bonds, were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 30 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester.
She is survived be two sons, David R. Hall and his wife, Brenda, and Melvin H. Hall; a daughter, Irma H. Cross, all of Colonial Heights; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances C. Hall of Richmond; a number of nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Marion O. Hall; and six sisters-in-law, Mary Compton of Gordonsville; Thelma H. Deskins and Arlene H. Badgett, both of Louisa, Dorothy H. Schmidt of Sandston, Edith H. Miller of Aroda and Alice H. Spears of Richmond.
Mrs. Hall was the daughter of the late Jacob Lundy and Mary Hawley Compton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Richard Hall and a son, Alvin “Hunka” Hall.
She retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. in 1981.
E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights, handled the arrangements.

Rebecca C. Hunter
Rebecca “Becky” Cushingberry Hunter, 81, of Mineral, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Frederick Sales, were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 14 at Rising Sun Baptist Church, Mineral. Interment was in the Cushingberry family cemetery, Mineral.
The pallbearers were William Bates, Kevin Shelton, John Shelton, Calvin Shelton, Bradley Shelton and Steven Shelton.
She is survived by two sons, Howard Hunter Sr. and his wife, Willie Mae, and Thomas Hunter and his wife, Rosetta, all of Louisa; three daughters, Helen Williams and her husband, Clarence, Dorothy Desper and her husband, Henry, Marie Davis and her husband, Ruby, all of Louisa; a sister, Martha Shelton of Mineral; a stepson, Linwood Sawyer and his wife, Yvonne, of Spotsylvania; a stepdaughter, Fannie Shelton and her husband, George, of Mineral; 38 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brother-in-laws, Phillip Mickens and Roderick Mickens of Mineral; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson of Bumpass and Bernice Stanley of Ashland; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Hunter was born August 21, 1920, the daughter of the late Carl Henson and Lula Cushingberry Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Howard “Sam” Hunter; a daughter, Marion Hunter; and two sons, William Lewis Hunter and John Hunter.
She was a member of Rising Sun Baptist Church.

Nancy E. Johnson
Nancy Ellen Johnson, 60, of Louisa, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Louisa Healthcare Center.
Funeral services, conducted by Bishop Roberta E. Smith, were held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, July 30 at Evangelic Gospel Temple. Interment was in the Johnson family cemetery.
She is survived by seven sisters, Mary and Kathy Johnson and Sherry Jackson of Louisa, Sandra Jackson of Yorktown, Cheryl Johnson of Charlottesville and Ruth Fielder and Dora Coleman of Washington D.C.; three brothers, John and Jackie Johnson of Louisa and Davis Johnson of Alexandria; three brothers-in-law, Bernard Jackson of Louisa, Calvin Jackson of Yorktown and Horace Fielder of Washington, D.C.; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Johnson is the daughter of the late John and Martha Ragland Johnson.
She was a member of Evangelic Gospel Temple.

Berger C. Nuckols
Berger Clopton Nuckols, 82, of Manakin-Sabot, died Monday, July 22, 2002.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27 at the chapel mausoleum at Westhampton Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie B. Nuckols; four children, Elizabeth “Betty” N. Nuckols and her husband, Jim, Richard K. Nuckols and Lex B. Nuckols, all of Manakin-Sabot and Lyn B. Caudill and her husband, Michael, of Louisa; and seven grandchildren, David Clayton Nuckols, Diana Lauren Nuckols, Lacy Brooke Nuckols, Madalyn English Nuckols, Paige Chalkley Nuckols, Morgan Chastain Caudill and Hunter Lee Caudill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Centerville Fire and Rescue No. 3, 52 Broad Street Rd., Manakin-Sabot, VA 23103.
West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Jerry L. White
Jerry L. White, 59, of Louisa, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services were private.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda White; a stepson, Raymond White of Louisiana; two stepdaughters, Deanna Benton of Portsmouth and Jennifer Robinson and her husband, Jud, of Portsmouth; a brother, Pete White and his wife, Judy, of Gladstone; three sisters, Joyce Williams and her husband, Doc, of Chesapeake, Barbara Bass Laughbaum and her husband, David, of Ahoskie, North Carolina and Charlotte Jones of Chesapeake; and three stepgrandchildren, Traycie White, Johnathan Benton and Dustin White.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine White and a brother, Robert White.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, handled the arrangements.

Paul S. Byers Sr.
Paul Spotswood Byers Sr., 60, of Bumpass, died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor John A. Ippolito and Pastor Terry Gilbert, were held on Sunday, October 6 at Fork Baptist Church. Interment was in the Byers family cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Frances West Byers; his wife, Celestine L. Byers; two sons, Paul S. Byers Jr. and his wife, Gwen and Chris Byers and his wife, Melissa; two daughters, Debbie Marshall and her husband, Danny and Lola B. Breznick and her husband, Bill; three brothers, Thomas C. Byers and his wife, Sally, John F. Byers Jr. and his wife, Lucille and Daniel W. Byers Sr. and his wife, Nancy; two sisters, Doris B. Allen and her husband, Ted and Adeline B. Albert and her husband, Buddy; a brother-in-law, Travis H. Stanley; 14 grandchildren, Dawn, April, Andy, Joshua, Aman-da, Alanna, Dianna, Krystal, Ashley, Arthur, Aaron, Alex, Gabriel and Savanna; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Byers was born December 26, 1941 in Louisa County. He was preceded in death by his father, John Franklin Byers Sr.; a sister, Annie Lee Byers; and a grandson, Ricky Lee Gail.
He was a member of Fork Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was a retired mechanic for Jones Lumber Company.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fork Baptist Church or the Holly Grove Rescue Squad, 155 Factory Mill Road, Bumpass, VA 23024.

Lois G. DeSomma
Lois Gibson DeSomma, 73, of McLean, died Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Inova Fairfax Women’s Hospital, Fairfax.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, September 28 at Trinity United Methodist Church, McLean. Interment was in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her husband, A. Edward DeSomma; a sister, Shirley Gibson Boyd and her husband, the Rev. Robert J. Boyd Jr., of Locust Grove; three children, Arthur Alan Stables of Tucson, Arizona, Thomas Frederick Stables and his wife, Dianne, of Houston, Texas and Michael Christian Stables and his wife, Mary, of Midlothian, Texas; and five grandchildren, Emily Gray Stables, Erin Hill Stables, Zachary Christian Stables, Jordan Thomas Stables and Michael Dalton Stables.
Mrs. DeSomma was born December 17, 1928, the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Ruby M. Gibson of Mineral.
She retired from the CIA in Langley after a number of years of rewarding service and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
