Carmelo Sorrentino
Carmelo Sorrentino, 72, of Lake Monticello, Palmyra, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005.
A funeral Mass, conducted by Father Jerry Przywara, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Jude Catholic cemetery, Mineral.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alice C. Sorrentino; two sons, Vincent Anthony Sorrentino of New Jersey and Carmelo Peter Sorrentino of Palmyra; a daughter, Ann Marie Hamill and her husband, David, of Palmyra; and two grandsons, Matthew and Justin.
Mr. Sorrentino was born May 18, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Vincenzo and Accursla Paradiso Sorrentino.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree and a retired phone man with Verizon.
Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, handled the arrangements.

Garrett K. Thacker
Garrett Kersey Thacker, 85, of Mineral, died Monday, June 13, 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17 at Mineral United Methodist Church, 301 West Third Street. Interment will be in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa.
He is survived by his son, Garrett Milton Thacker Sr., wife, Judy Carter Thacker; his grandson, Garrett “Gary” Milton Thacker Jr., great-grandchildren, James Kersey Thacker and Ceara Jordan Thacker, and Cassandra Thacker; two sisters, Viola Allen of Glen Allen, and Virginia Stanley of Utah, a special niece, Marsha Wills; Brenda Thacker; and his stepgrandchildren, Justin, Gavin and Kalen.
Mr. Thacker was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lucy Mae Cole Thacker in 1995.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter and painter and a lifetime resident of the Mineral community. He was a United States Army veteran and last stationed at Fort Sill, Oregon during World War II.
A former member of the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department, he was a dedicated member of the Mineral United Methodist Church for over 65 years and served many of those years as Sunday School superintendent.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mineral United Methodist Church or the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department Inc.

Stuart L. Garner Sr.
Stuart Loving Garner Sr., 78, of Palmyra, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at his residence.
Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Tom LeVines and the Rev. Frank Schumaker, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 19 at Lyles Baptist Church cemetery, Palmyra.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merle Cosner Garner; two sons, S. L. “Buck” Garner Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Palmyra, and Henry W. “Hank” Garner and his wife, Paula, of Walkerton; three daughters, June G. Clement and her husband, Robert, of Hayesville, North Carolina, Anna G. Amiss and her husband, Kenneth, of Charlottesville, and Tina G. Searcy and her husband, Greg, of Locust Grove; a brother, Robbie D. Garner and his wife, Jean, of Charlottesville; two sisters, Mattie Zickefoose of Palmyra, and Edna Penn and her husband, Neil, of Charlottesville; and 15 grandchildren.
Mr. Garner was born September 20, 1926 in Fluvanna County, the son of the late Guy Randolph Garner Sr. and Robbie Edna Loving Garner. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Randolph Garner Jr. and Easton Garner.
He was a member of Lyles Baptist Church and a retired employee of Central Virginia Electric Coop.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fluvanna County Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 96, Palmyra, VA 22963.

Carl P. Paitsel
Carl Preston Paitsel (Sweed) died Tuesday, August 23, 2005.
Funeral services, conducted by Bernie Newcomb, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 26 at Central Virginia Assembly of God, Mineral. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 25 at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Eastep Paitsel; his daughter, Susan Hoffman and her husband, John, of Mineral; a son, Thomas Paitsel and his wife, Susan, of Florida; two stepsons, Mark and Bill Eastep; a stepdaughter, Sharry; two brothers, Charles Paitsel and his wife, Christine, of Chesapeake, and E.P. Paitsel Jr. and his wife, Joan, of North Carolina; his sister, Betty June Nicely and her husband, Richard, of Chester; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Paitsel of Selma and Sylvia Paitsel of Portsmouth; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Paitsel was the son of the late Edward Preston Paitsel and Margaret Kern Paitsel. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Gertrude Boone Paitsel; his wife, Betty Lou Smith Paitsel; five brothers, Leonard, Cletus, Elmer, Earl and Paul; and five sisters, Christine Haney, Stella Boone, Irine Mayes, Ruth Bryant and Vivian Kelly.
He was a retired ironworker, working 50 years with the Local #28, and a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
Lacy Funeral Home, Mineral, is handling the arrangements.

Charles E. Riner
Charles “Eric” Riner, 33, of Gordonsville, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at his residence.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 25 at Daystar Worship Center, Gordonsville.
He is survived by his wife, Veronque Riner; his daughters, Erica and Sarah Riner; a son, Thomas Riner; his mother, Connie Riner; his grandmother, Mary Ellen Fink; two brothers, James and Matthew Riner; a sister, Patricia Riner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Riner was born August 22, 1971 in Arlington.

Pansy A. Stanley
Pansy Anderson Stanley, 65, of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, died Thursday, August 18, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Poole, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 21 at Fishing Creek Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Ella Lankford and her husband, Tommy, of North Wilkesboro; two sons, Harrison Stanley and his wife, Donna, and Floyd Walter Stanley and his wife, Machelle, all of Unionville; four sisters, Tillie A. Call and her husband, Jack, of High Point, North Carolina, Rose A. Parsons and her husband, Lawrence, and Agnes A. Osborne and her husband, Danny L., all of North Wilkesboro, and Susan A. Miller of Union Grove, North Carolina; a brother, Hoyle Anderson and his wife, Peggy, of Millers Creek, North Carolina; and 10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Stanley was born August 10, 1940 in Wilkes County, the daughter of the late Harrison McKinley Anderson Sr. and Blanche Bouchelle Anderson.
She was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fishing Creek Baptist Church cemetery Fund, 1191 Old 60, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.

Brian D. Terrell Jr.
Brian Demarcus Terrell Jr., baby boy, of Gordonsville, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Memorial services, conducted by Brother Allen McLaughlin, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 20 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gordonsville.
He is survived by his parents, Brian Demarcus Terrell and Rita Corbi Terrell; two brothers, Jaquan Damound Terrell and Lester Davis Jr., both of Fluvanna; two sisters, Breshenia Raebri Terrell of Gordonsville and Bionca Williams of Fluvanna; his maternal grandparents, Valerie Corbi and Murray Robert Corbi Sr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his paternal grandparents, Donna Reed Terrell and Roger Timothy Terrell of Gordonsville; his great-grandparents, Sam and Margaret Quarles of Gordonsville; and a large number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
The child was born April 18, 2005 in Charlottesville.

Minnie G. Nielsen
Minnie Goodwin Nielsen, 88, of Ocala, Florida, died Thursday, October 27, 2005 at Sylvia’s Hospice House.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William R. Nielsen Jr.; and her son, William R. Nielsen III of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Mrs. Nielsen was born in Louisa County.
She was a retired registered nurse, who also served in the Army during World War II.
Mrs. Nielsen was of the Methodist faith.
Hiers Funeral Home, Ocala, handled the arrangements.

Thomas A. Olsen
Thomas Anthony Olsen, 60, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A private memorial service was held.
He is survived by his parents, Raymond and Norma Olsen; his twin daughters, Melissa Sher and her husband, John, of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Heather Edwards and her husband, Pete, of Chesterfield; three grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua and Ryan; a sister, Elaine Friedrick and her husband, Fred, of Seymour, Wisconsin; and the mother of his children, Brenda Ann Cocker of Richmond, formerly of Louisa.
Mr. Olsen was born March 24, 1945 in Buffalo, New York.
While a resident of Louisa County, he was employed by the North Anna Nuclear Power Plant.
