William D. Orange
William Douglas “Bill” Orange, 71, of Troy, died Wednesday, October 29, 2005 at his residence.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Grace Episcopal Church, Red Hill.
He is survived by William and Linda Critzer of Troy and their families; Travis and Holly Hamshar and Scott and Maria Critzer, all of Troy; James and Teresa West of Shipman; a special friend, Mona Proffitt; and his extended family and friends.
Mr. Orange was born July 7, 1934, the son of the late Percy and Mary Orange. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Randolph and Joe; and a sister, Clara.
Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, handled the arrangements.

Clara M. Payne
Clara Maxine Payne, 77, of Columbia, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 in Goochland County.
Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Tim Jones, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 1 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters, Jean Payne Poarch of Columbia and Helen Payne Winston and her husband, Stuart, of Richmond; a brother-in-law, Allen Melton of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Florence Payne of Gordonsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ms. Payne was born March 21, 1928 in Goochland County, the daughter of the late Virgil Thomas and Ida Pryor Payne. She was also preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church cemetery Fund.
Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, handled the arrangements.

Robert E. Smith
Robert Eugene Smith, 82, of Louisa, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005.
Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Denny Burnette, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28 at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose Ada Smith; two sons, Tommy Smith and his wife, Susan, and Robert “R.L.” Smith; a daughter, Janice Sprouse; a sister, Cevera Bazzanella and her husband, Louis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by five sisters.
He was a member of Louisa Christian Church and retired from Seay Furniture as a cabinet maker.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, handled the arrangements.

Rodney W. Barlow
Rodney Ward “Crickett” Barlow, 42, of Louisa, died Friday, December 9, 2005 in Louisa County.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Roger Bevins, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 14 at Grace Free Will Baptist Church, Trevilians.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Barlow; two daughters, Casey Ann Barlow and Amanda Lynn Moon, both of Louisa; two sons, Rodney James Barlow and Ryan Michael Barlow, both of Louisa; two brothers, Joseph Barlow of Mineral and Danny Barlow of Louisa; and three sisters, Gail Proffitt and Sharon Dunivan, both of Mineral, and Cindy Bevins of Louisa.
Mr. Barlow was born November 16, 1963 in Prince Frederick County, Maryland, the son of the late Ray Thomas Barlow and Ollie Dunivan Barlow.
He was the owner and operator of Barlow Construction.
Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville, handled the arrangements.

Heather N. Elliott
Heather Nicole Elliott, 32, of Gordonsville, died Friday, December 9, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Buster Payne, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 12 at Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville. Interment will be held at a later date in Jasper, Alabama.
She is survived by her parents, John Henry Files of Jasper, Alabama, and Julie Sutton Long Files of Hoover, Alabama; her husband, John David Elliott; two daughters, Juliet Campbell of Halena, Alabama, and Morgan Layne Elliott of Gordonsville; and a brother, John Daniel Hancock of Hoover, Alabama.
Mrs. Elliott was born December 26, 1972 in Huntsville, Alabama.

Harold R. Lipscomb Jr.
Harold Roberts Lipscomb Jr., of Bumpass, died Wednesday, November 23, 2005 in a Richmond hospital.
He is survived by his true friends of many years, Cora Lea Lipscomb of Mechanicsville and Jane Desper of Staunton.
Mr. Lipscomb was the son of the late Harold Roberts Lipscomb Sr. and Maracella Cummings Lipscomb of Washington, D.C..
He was best known for the devoted time and services he gave to his volunteer work at Western State Hospital of Staunton and most recent, years at the Louisa Health Care Center.

Kimora L. Quarles
Kimora Lavonne Quarles, infant, died Saturday, December 10, 2005.
Family hour and a service of victory will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17 at Foster Creek Baptist Church, 4028 East Jack Jouett Road, Louisa. Interment will be in the Bright Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
She is survived by her parents, LaTasha and Lionel Quarles Jr.; a sister, Nia; her twin sister, Kaitlyn; her maternal grandparents, Aubrey and Dorothy Poindexter; her paternal grandparents, Lionel Sr. and Delores Quarles; three great-grandmothers, Carrie Taylor, Alma Quarles and Lorraine Childs; and a number of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Lateny’s Funeral Home, Washington D. C., is handling the arrangements.

Pearl A. Ragland
Pearl Agnes Ragland, 79, of Goochland, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Henrico Doctors’ Parham Hospital.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Paul Rice Jr., were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 13 at Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store. Interment was in the Mizpah Christian Church cemetery.
She is survived by seven sons, Nelson, Charles, Harvey, Lewis, Robert, David and Tony Ragland; two daughters, Virginia Rice and Lois Underwood; 20 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ragland was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ragland.
She was a housewife and attended St. John’s Episcopal Church, Columbia.

J. Earl Diggs
J. Earl Diggs, 84, of Bumpass, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. David F. Boston, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 27 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 26 at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Pleasants Diggs; two sons, E. Boxley Diggs and his wife, Ellen, of Oahu, Hawaii, and John W. Diggs and his wife, Beth, of Louisville, Kentucky; a daughter, Sandra D. Richard of Texas; three grandchildren, Michael Diggs and his wife, Joey, and Bradley and Stephanie Diggs; twin sisters, Lucille Andrews and Louise D. Kopcho; and a brother, Willie E. Diggs of Bumpass.
Mr. Diggs was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jack A.E. Richard.
He was a member of Sharon Christian Church and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was also a retired farmer.

Dorothy D. Leake
Dorothy Deane “BooBoo” Leake, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 21 at Louisa United Methodist Church. Interment was at Hillcrest cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Hawley, Dr. Al Southall, W.A. Dickinson, Charles Purcell, Ronnie Laws and Manning Woodward.
Honorary pallbearers were Lora Bickley, Nora Jane Leake, Sue Lancaster, Dr. Lynn Daniel, Hilda Chiles and Nancy Verling.
She is survived by a son, Richard Milton Leake Jr., and his wife, Lynda; three granddaughters, Elaine Leake Maddox, Olivia Anne Leake and Lynda Clair Leake; two great-grandchildren, Parker Edward Maddox and Lydia Katherine Maddox; two nephews, Charles B. Baughan and B. Deane Baughan; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Leake was born May 30, 1920 in Louisa. She was the daughter of John Kendall and Mable Claire Deane. She was preceded in death by one brother, J.K. “Freddie” Deane and four sisters, Virginia Deane Perkins, Martha Deane Baughan, Mable Claire Deane and Mary Deane “Kaky” May.
She was well known for many years as the payroll clerk for Woolfolk Manufacturing and she eventually retired from the North Anna Power Station. A lifelong member of Louisa United Methodist Church, she served her church in many capacities. For over 14 years she was a dedicated volunteer at the Louisa Healthcare Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Louisa United Methodist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 217, Louisa, VA 23093.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, handled the arrangements.
