John E. Anderson
John Edward Anderson, 53, of Mineral, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Temple Anderson, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Philippi Christian Church, Mineral. Interment will follow in the Anderson family cemetery, Mineral.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the church.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Jackson Anderson of Mineral; his daughter, Felicia Carter; his grandson, Jaezon Carter, both of Richmond; two sisters, Evvone Mildred Canada and her husband, John Wayne, of Richmond, and Consuella Loveline Anderson of Mineral; two brothers, Dale E. Anderson and his wife, Sylvia, of Mineral, and William “Billy” Anderson and his wife, Manrinda, of Ashland; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Anderson was born March 30, 1954. He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Anderson; his wife, Jo-Anne Shelton Anderson; and two brothers, Jerome Anderson and William J. Anderson.
He was a barber and co-owner of Hair Unlimited and also co-owner and instructor of Anderson Barber School in Louisa.
Satchell’s Funeral Service Inc., Orange, is handling the arrangements

Corey D. Carter
Corey Daniel Carter, 28, of Troy, died Sunday, April 15, 2007.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Victor Williams, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20 at Springfield Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Abagail A. Martina and her husband, Orlando, of Troy; his father, Hayes Brown Jr. and his wife, Novell, of Louisa; one daughter, Mercedes Price of Troy; one brother, Rico Messfeigson of Troy; a sister, Latoya Brown of Charlottesville; his maternal grandmother, Viola Carter of Troy; his paternal grandmother, Eleanor Brown of Troy; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Carter was born October 6, 1978 in Charlottesville. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Hayes Brown Jr.; and his maternal grandfather, Phillip Carter.
Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville, handled the arrangements.

William R. Groome
William “Tom” Robert Groome, 78, of Mineral, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at his residence.
Memorial services, conducted by Pastor Michael Durham, will be held on Thursday, April 26 at Mineral Baptist Church, Mineral. Interment will follow at Spring Grove cemetery, Mineral.
The pallbearers will be members of the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Ragland and her husband, Kelly; three sons, Thomas Groome and his wife, Frances, Raymond Groome and his wife, Vickie, and Gary Groome and his wife, Amy, all of Mineral; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Eva Groome of Mineral; four brothers, Bucky Groome and his wife, Erma, Franklin Groome and his wife, Marie, Michael Groome and his wife, Susan, and Nolan Groome and his wife, Betty Jean; and four sisters, Janice Mays and her husband, Doug, all of Louisa, Ann Stevens and her husband, Danny, Elsie Williams and Lois Blaisdell and her husband, Bob, all of Spotsylvania.
Mr. Groome was born November 17, 1928 in Louisa County, the son of the late Bob and Louise Groome. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Seay Groome; a daughter, Barbara Jean; and two grandchildren, Kathy Wolfe and Justin Groome.
He was a lifetime member of the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department, having joined in 1961.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department.

Charles E. Henson
Charles Edward Henson, 65, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Louisa Healthcare Center.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Frederick Sales, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Rising Sun Baptist Church, Mineral. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by four daughters, Alfreda Morris and her husband, Dean, Linda Houchens and Sheila Houchens, both of Louisa, and Arlene Houchens of Richmond; three sons, Jerry Houchens and his wife, Norine, of Richmond, Charles and Lance Houchens of Louisa; a devoted friend of many years, Mary Houchens; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Henry “Pie” Henson; two sisters, Pauline “Sally” Henson and Pearline “Sue” Henson; one devoted aunt, Mattie Henson; five additional aunts, Mary E. Waller and her husband, David, Alice L. Brown and her husband, Joseph, Martha Jackson and her husband, Spencer, Shirley Hunter and her husband, Lester, and Thelma Leonard and her husband, Kenneth; one devoted uncle, Lawrence Henson and his wife, Alice; another uncle, Early Johnson; three nephews, Gerald and his wife, Doris, Calvin and Thomas Michael Henson, all of Mineral; three great-nieces, CeCe and Nia Henson and Morgan Cosby; four devoted cousins, Gladys Anderson, Grace A. Shelton, Tashena Anderson, all of Mineral, and the Rev. Wesley Henson (BJ) of Bremo Bluff; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Henson was born October 24, 1942, the son of the late Dorothy Henson and Robert Johnson.
He attended Louisa County Public Schools and joined Rising Sun Baptist Church at an early age.
He was employed for many years at various jobs including Holly Farms, Jo Pa Swimming Pools & Company and Tradewinds of Virginia.

Edward J. Hibner
Edward Joseph Hibner, 51, of Mineral, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007.
A memorial mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alexandria. Interment was private.
He is survived by his parents, George F. and Angelina C. Hibner; his sisters, Wanda Cable, Christina Wickham and Jeanne Bapov; his girlfriend, Katherine Kesler; and four nephews, Jesse, John, Joseph and Paul.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Mid Atlantic Affiliated Memorial and Tribute Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.

Frances L. Leake
Frances LaRease Leake, 81, of Louisa, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Carol Thornton and Pastor Roger Bevins, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Gordonsville. Interment was at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia LaRease Brumage and her husband, Jesse, and Daphne Louise Crank and her husband, William, all of Louisa; one son, Dennis Carroll Gardner and his wife, Erika, of Madison; three stepdaughters, Margaret Hawkins of Lake of the Woods, Charlotte Hoffman of Madison and Lou Leake of Richmond; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Leake was born November 24, 1925 in Mineral, the daughter of the late Ollie Lee Leake and Alma Pearl Leake. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wallace R. Leake; four brothers; and three sisters.
She was the retired owner and operator of a dry cleaning business and laundromats and was a member of Mineral Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Louisa County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1777, Louisa, VA 23093.

Darius A. Manifold
Darius Arlow Manifold, 25, of Charlottesville, died Friday, April 20, 2007.
Funeral services were private.
He is survived by his parents, Rod and Demetria Manifold of Palmyra; his paternal grandmother, Rosemary Manifold; his maternal grandparents, Marion and Oner Brewer; two brothers, Devon and Nigel Manifold of Palmyra; one sister, Nadia Manifold of Roanoke; one aunt, Carlotta Grinage of Suitland, Maryland; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Manifold was born July 21, 1981 in Indiana.
He was a 1999 graduate of Fluvanna County High School.

Grace P. Mayo
Grace Poindexter Mayo, 79, of Kents Store, died Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Jim Thornton, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at Macedonia United Methodist Church, Louisa. Interment was at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her husband, John S. Mayo; two sons, William E. Poindexter and his wife, Gloria, and Charles W. Poindexter and his wife, Diane, all of Louisa; a daughter, Susie P. Donovan and her husband, Donald Gene, of Kents Store; eight granchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Mayo was born April 22, 1927 in Louisa County, the daughter of the late Robert S. and Etta Carter Harlow. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas William Poindexter.
She was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Edward C. Smith Sr.
Edward Collin Smith Sr., 55, of Louisa, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Larry Holt Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa. Interment will follow at the McKeathon family cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Smith of Louisa; his children, Barney Rae Smith of Richmond, Edward C. Smith Jr. of Louisa and Brandon T. Smith of Goldsboro, North Carolina; his mother, Bernice M. Smith; his grandmother, Mamie M. McKeathon; his mother-in-law, Carrie A. Shelton; his siblings, Richard L. Smith Jr., Kenneth A. Smith Sr., Marcus K. .Smith Sr., Brenda S. Quarles and her husband, Phillip, Rosetta S. Burruss and her husband, Charles, Lorna S. Stevens and Sylvia S. Quarles and her husband, Albert; his brother-in-law, William H. Shelton Jr. and his wife, Janice; his uncles Matt E. Smith Sr., Harry M. Smith Sr., Larry L. Smith Sr., and Robert C. Rucker; his aunts, Nora S. Richardson, Ada S. Whitley and Jeraldine Chadler; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Smith was born August 9, 1951. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard E. Smith.
He graduated from Louisa County High School and worked in the construction industry.
