John R. Watt
John Reid “Jack” Watt, 92, of Highlands, North Carolina, formerly of Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia, died Saturday, April 14, 2007.
Memorial services will be held in Highlands and Seattle, Washington at future dates.
He is survived by two children, John David “Dave Michaels” Watt of Louisa and Madeleine Megan Watt of Cashiers, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Denny Watt of Seattle and Richard Frye Watt of Chicago, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Sarah Elizabeth Craven of Greensboro, North Carolina; his second wife, Annie Lillian Mann of Hephzabah, Georgia; and a daughter, Louisa Catherine Watt Kellough.
He was the grandson of the late Louisa Catherine Denny Frye, a member of the Denny Party which in 1851 landed on the coast of Washington Territory and founded Seattle.
Mr. Watt graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in engineering, later study economics at Harvard University in Boston, and returning to the University of Washington for a master’s degree in economics.
He taught mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin for more than 20 years. He then became the professor of engineering at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
He authored text books in refrigeration and evaporative cooling and “Pioneering” a personal history of his and his family’s lives in Seattle and Austin.
He held patents and worked to develop inventions as diverse as early ice makers for tubular as well as block ice, a machine to desalinate sea water, a hovercraft and a camera to detect drug use.
He was a fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers and is listed in the American Men of Science and Who’s Who.

Robert L. Beckley Jr.
Robert L. Beckley Jr., of Bumpass, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May19 at Beaverdam Funeral Home. Interment was held in the Stanley Family cemetery.
He is survived by his son, Robert L. Beckley III; his mother and stepfather, Frances and Bruce Stanley; his father and stepmother, Robert and Vicky Beckley; two sisters, Melissa Owens and her husband, Thomas and Debrah Peyton; two brothers, Brian Beckley and his wife, Kristy and Joshua Dymacek; step-grandmother, Berta Proffit; three nephews, Tony Peyton Jr, Brian Beckley Jr. and Harrison Hart; niece, Brianna Beckley; loyal friend, Damion and many other friends.
Beaverdam Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Margaret J. Drury
Margaret Julia “Winkie” Drury, 84, of Lake Anna, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
A funeral mass was conducted by Father Michael Duffy at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21 at St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment took place on Tuesday, May 22 in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Washington, DC.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Carpenter and her husband, Ken of Mineral; Eleanor Daniels and her husband, Ray of Mineral; Barbara Perry of Mineral; Margaret Buchanan of Grand Cayman Island; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Drury and a sister, Eleanor Moreland.
She was born May 3, 1923 in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late William and Mary Edna Keller.
She was a member of St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Jude’s Women’s Guild, Belmont Women’s Club, Belmont Canasta Club and she loved painting china.

Edward R. Johnson
Edward Raleigh Johnson, 87, died Saturday, May 19, 2007.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at Laurel Baptist Church in Mineral. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Rev. Barry Carpenter will officiate.
He is survived by two sisters, Edna C. Johnson Sharpe and Juanita I. Johnson, both of Queens, NY; two brothers, Robert W. Johnson Sr. of Capitol Heights, MD and Samuel M. Johnson Jr. of Mineral; two sisters-in-law, Ruth B. Johnson of Jacksonboro, SC and Mae Johnson of Capitol Heights, MD; one aunt, Cora Johnson of Philadelphia, PA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was born on April 20, 1924, in West Virginia, the son of the late Samuel “Sam” M. Johnson Sr. and Dorothy Blake Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian W. Ware Johnson.
Thomasson Watson Funeral Service will handle the arrangements.

Susan P. Rigsby
Susan Proffit Rigsby, 49, of Gordonsville, died Sunday, May 20, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, May 24 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, conducted by Rev. Buster Payne. Interment will follow in Hillcrest cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Frederick Rigsby, of Gordonsville; her mother, Helen Kirby Proffit, of Gordonsville; two sons, Robert Franklin Rigsby and his friend Kim Hoffman, Shawn Travis Rigsby and his wife, Dawn, all of Gordonsville; two brothers, Archie Lewis Proffit Jr. and his wife, Judy of Pittsburg, PA, Bruce Donald Proffit of Gordonsville; a sister, Helen Anne Jenkins and her husband, Henry of Gordonsville; three grandchildren, Alyson M. Rigsby, Dylan E. Rigsby and Robert A. Hoffman, all of Gordonsville; five nieces, Kasity “Sissy” Cawthorne of Gordonsville, Cari Hall of Newport News, Ashley Proffit of Gordonsville, Christina Proffit, Stephanie Proffit, both of Ruckersville; four nephews, Billy Proffit of Texas, Eric Proffit of Gordonsville, Patrick Proffit of Richmond and Ryan Brown on Gordonsville.
She was born on August 23, 1957 in Charlottesville. She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Lewis Proffit Sr.
An active member of the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and FFA in Louisa, she was the office manager for Haley, Chisholm and Morris Inc. in Earlysville.

Dorothy J. Sellers
Dorothy Johnson Sellers, 81, died Sunday, May 20, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 at First Baptist Church in Louisa. Interment will follow in the Bright Hope Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Alonzo Minor will officiate.
She is survived by four nieces, Joyce Braxton Murray, J. Demetriss “Demmie” Murray, Jusolyn Murray Bradshaw and Ciceli Bradshaw; three nephews, Bobby Murray, Gary Johnson and his wife, Betsy and Cecil Bradshaw; a sister-in-law, Mary B. Johnson; cousins, Ella Marie McLean, Thelma Brown, Walter Brown and Frank E. Hill and his wife, Gloria; her devoted friends, Lawrence and Beverly Jackson, Richard and Tina Finley and Charlotte King and her church family at Bright Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Edward M. Sellers, and her parents, Thomas and Mary Brown Johnson.
She was born on June 7, 1925 in Louisa County and joined Bright Hope Baptist Church at the age of seven.
She retired from the Louisa Manufacturing Company, and worked part-time for eight years at Fabric Hut in Louisa. She also served as corresponding secretary for the Louisa Training School Association. At Bright Hope Baptist Church, she was secretary of the Sunday school, an usher, and was in charge of the kitchen.

Gene W. Vaughan
Gene W. Vaughan, 71, of Palmyra, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2007.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jason Taylor at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Beulah Baptist Church. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Vaughan, of Palmyra; a son, John Vaughan, and his wife, Barbara of Palmyra; a daughter, Sharon Snoddy of Dillwyn; four grandchildren, Geoff and Shelley Vaughan, Sarah Shumaker and Brian Snoddy; three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Emily and Ivy; two brothers, Morris and Jerry Vaughan; and two sisters, Mildred Morton and Carol Hickman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Alease Vaughan and a brother, Roy Vaughan, all of Chester.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Carpenter’s Local Union #388 for 30 years.
Memorial donations may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund, 1436 Kents Store Way, Kents Store, VA 23084.

Charles W. Bullock Sr.
Saturday, October 20, 2007
Charles W. Bullock Sr., 55, of Mineral, departed this life suddenly at his residence on Saturday, October 20, 2007. He was the son the Lottie Hunter Bullock and the late John D. Bullock.
Charles was a member of The Temple of Deliverance Holy Church of God and was employed by Virginia Power.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Janice C. Bullock; three sons, Charles W. Bullock Jr., Jermaine Morris and Chaka Talley; one daughter, Christiana Bullock; his mother, Lottie H. Bullock; one sister, Beverly Bullock and many other relatives and friends.
A public viewing was held on October 24 at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, Louisa. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, October 25 at Temple of Deliverance (HCOG) in Mineral with Elder Lynn W. Beanum Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in the Coleman Family cemetery.

Russell C. Burruss Jr.
Tuesday, October 9, 2007
Russell Claudis Burruss Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
He was born on September 29, 1944 to the late Russell and Viola Burruss. Russell joined Foster Creek Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools and joined the United States Army in 1963.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Sylvia Smith, Juanita Hayden, George Burruss, Thelma Burruss, Lola Shelton and Kenneth Burruss. He leaves to cherish his memory three brothers, Thomas Burruss and his wife, Pearl, Charles Burruss and his wife, Rosetta, of Louisa, and Joseph Burruss and his wife, Yvonne, of Raphine; three sisters, Gloria Maupin of Seattle, Washington, Otelia Robinson and her husband, Walter, of Louisa, Carrie Dulin and her husband, Timothy, of Roanoke; two aunts, Mamie McKeathon and Katherine Burruss; his former wife, Pauline Burruss; two step children and a host of other relatives and friends. He was also predeceased by a loving friend, Harriet Gilbert and survived by her daughter, Sharonda of Charlottesville.
The funeral was held on Saturday, October 13 at Foster Creek Baptist Church in Louisa County followed by a military burial in the Burruss Family cemetery with Rev. Michael Crawley Jr. officiating.
Thomasson Watson Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
