Leonard F. Webster
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Leonard Franklin Webster, 71, formerly of Providence, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Va.
He was born in Caswell County to Troy S. Webster and Annie Holt Webster.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Troy D. Webster.
He graduated from Schoolfield High School. He served in the Air Force, eighteen months of which was served in West Germany. He attended Virginia Tech for two years. He received his electrical engineering degree through the Army Corps of Engineers and retired from them after 30 years of service. His last 15 years with them were as superintendent of Philpott Dam Hydro in Bassett, Va. He was past chaplain of American Legion Post 1097 and was a lifelong member of VFW Post 647. He was a member of Gatewood Spiritual Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa W. Shaffer of Cascade, Va.; a son, Leonard F. Webster Jr. of Danville, Va.; three brothers, Thomas L. Webster, Herbert W. Webster and Henry N. Webster, all of Providence; four sisters, Dorothy W. Butts of Purley, Evelyn W. Worley of Pelham, Bera W. Huff of Danville and Carol T. Lewis of Providence; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gatewood Spiritual Baptist Church in Gatewood with the Rev. John Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Lively Stones Baptist Church cemetery in Ruffin with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 Tuesday at Harrelson Funeral Home in Yanceyville and other times at the home of his sister, 1935 Shady Grove Road, Providence.

Odell G. Baker
BROOKNEAL -- Odell Gaines Baker of Brookneal, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, in Lynchburg.
Surviving are three daughters, Faye A. Baker of Bridgeport, Conn., Alma E. Baker of Martinsville and Sarah V. Baker of Brookneal; three sons, William "Cank" Baker, and Herman W. Baker and Wayne E. Baker, all of Brookneal; two sisters, Annie Johns of Brookneal and Copeland Gilliam of Montclair, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six nieces.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gethsemane Presbyterian Church in Drakes Branch. Burial will be in Ridgeway Presbyterian Cemetery.
Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Brookneal is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Baughan Jr.
The funeral for Charles Burton Baughan Jr., 82, of Birmingham, Ala., and formerly of Martinsville, who died Feb. 24, 2005, was held Monday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel. The Rev. John Fulcher officiated. Entombment was at Roselawn Abbey.
Pallbearers were Charles Hawthorne, John Hawthorne, Stuart Stone, Bob Baughan and Naham Sweet.

Agnes W. Bell
Agnes Cox Wilkinson Bell, 95, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at the R.J. Reynolds-Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart after a long illness.
She was born in Patrick County on April 26, 1909, to King David Cox and Lillie Pilson Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, George E. Wilkinson; her second husband, Robert S. Bell Sr.; three sisters, Thelma Cox Jennings, Mildred Cox Shelton and Hazel Cox Atkinson; and two brothers, Ralph D. Cox and Phillip B. Cox.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy.
Surviving are a sister, Winifred Cox Roberson of Stuart; a stepdaughter, Harriet Mitchell of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepson, Robert S. Bell Jr. of Raleigh; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart. Dr. Jennifer L. Braaten, president of Ferrum College, will give the eulogy. Entombment will in the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum in Charlotte, N.C.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service Thursday.

Marshall S. Carroll
The funeral for Marshall Sherwood Carroll, 62, of 694 Hamilton Road, Bassett, has been moved to 11 a.m. today at Fairway Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd with full military honors.
He died Friday, Feb, 25, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Collins Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

William C. Gravely
The funeral for William Cecil Gravely, 76, of 714 Blue Knob Road, Martinsville, has been moved to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today at the church.
He died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Nancy S. Hodge
Nancy S. Hodge, 85, of 4952 Chatham Road, Martinsville, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
Hairston Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Paul T. Sands
Paul T. "Pete" Sands, 72, of 1835 Old Leaksville Road, Ridgeway, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1932, in Rockingham County, N.C., to Walter Lee Sands and Lucy Glydewell Sands. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Louise Sands, who died Sept. 12, 1984; and his son, Thomas Lee Sands, who died Aug. 23, 1998.
He retired from Henry County Plywood after 35 years and did carpentry work and farmed. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Vickie Sands Myers of York, Pa.; five sons, Paul J. Sands of Mount Holly, N.C., Roger D. Sands of Eden, N.C., Gordon F. "Frank" Sands, and Michael W. "Mike" Sands and Joseph R. "Joe" Sands, all of Ridgeway; four sisters, Lucy Kallam of Eden, Betty Wray of Lawtey, Fla., and Mary Pruitt and Carolyn James, both of Eden; a brother, James "Jim" Sands of Ridgeway; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Community Funeral Chapel in Ridgeway with Charles R. Tomlinson and Jackie Joyce officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Community Funeral Service, Ridgeway. At other times the family will be receiving friends at the home of his brother, James Sands, 1835 Old Leaksville Road.

D. Cleveland Spencer
Daniel Cleveland Spencer, 90, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Martinsville, where he resided.
He was born June 6, 1914, in Patrick County, to Daniel Creed Spencer and Katherine Wood Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred Wade Spencer; and a brother, Guy Spencer.
He worked for 25 years at V.M. Draper Manufacturing as the corporate secretary, then 18 years at Prillaman and Pace Co. as service manager. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Martinsville where he served as a deacon and clerk of the church.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Byrd of Martinsville and Virginia Smith of Lynchburg; a son, Charles Daniel Spencer of Martinsville; a sister, Ruth Burgart of Martinsville; a brother, Bruce Spencer of Martinsville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Wilbern Meeks officiating.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 663 Barrows Mill Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112.

Estelle H. Via
Estelle Hall Via, 73, of Stanleytown, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Beverly Health Care in Martinsville.
Bassett Funeral Service will be in charge of arrangements.

Lyle N. Warren
Lyle Nelson Warren, 90, of Kings Grant Retirement Community, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory will be in charge of arrangements.
