CHAPPELL
Rachel Martin Chappell, 79, of Beaverdam, formerly of Glen Allen, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001. She is survived by her husband, John F. Chappell, a sister, Pauline Gibson of Tappahannock. Mrs. Chappell was a charter member of Goodwill Baptist Church and a retired employee of the State of Virginia, with 40 years of service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Fund of Immanuel Baptist Church.

CRUEL
Our loved one, Ms. Leola (Mookie) Cruel, departed her life on May 5, 2001. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Taryn Cruel; two devoted grandchildren, Brian L. and Tarynesha T.L. Cruel, both of Richmond; one sister, Bertha Hanna of New York; three brothers, James and Frank Cruel, both of Richmond and Robert Cruel of Florida; two aunts, Viola Lemmon of South Carolina, Mazie Buskey of Richmond; two nephews, 10 nieces, eight great-nephews, 11 great-nieces, two great-great-nephews; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th Street, where funeral services will be held Saturday 2:30 p.m., Rev. Sharon Broaddus officiating. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

DICKERSON
Ruth D. Dickerson, 96, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Harry B. Dickerson, and is survived by her son, Ronald B. Dickerson and his wife, Ruby Bates Dickerson; her granddaughter, Tamera R. Dickerson; her sister, Agnes D. Porter; her nephews, John B. Porter Jr., Calvin Porter, Dawson Spivey; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was a member of Carlisle Ave. Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A graveside service will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, Washington Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Henrico County Volunteer Squad and/or the Carlisle Ave. Baptist Church.

DUDLEY
Mrs. Ossie Hogan Dudley, 104, of New Kent, widow of Walker Hogan and Roscoe Dudley, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001. She was preceded in death by a son, Wilson Hogan; and a grandson, Hugh Gibson. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Hogan Gibson; a son, Robert W. Hogan and his wife, Annie; a daughter-in-law, Annie Mae Hogan; a brother, John Gray; three grandsons, Glenn Hogan and his wife, Janet, Lynn and Bobby Hogan; three granddaughters, Gail Finney, Shirley Roland and Becky Hogan Clarke; five great-grandchildren, Alan Hogan, Jennifer Hogan, Justin Hogan, Shawn Finney and Michelle Hogan; three great-great-grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Hershberger and Alexis Beasley; her nieces, Joyce Gordan, Thelma Holland, Blanche Robertson and Irene McKay; her nephews, James A. Gray, John Gray Jr., Woodson, Raymond and Richard Dillard. After 10 a.m. Friday, friends may call at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, New Kent County. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hopewell Baptist Church or the New Kent-Quinton Rescue Squad and Fire Department.

HARDY
Kendrick Josiah Hardy was born April 16, 2001 and departed this life on May 10, 2001 at UVA Children's Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Elder and Mrs. Michael E. Hardy; brother, Jordan Elisha; sister, Michaela Faith; grandmother. Ella G. Hardy; grandfather, Huddie O. Williams Sr.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday 1 p.m. at Manna Christian Fellowship, 6851 S. Laburnum Ave., Pastor Marvin Mason officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd.

HARRISON
Mrs. Agnes Mason Harrison of McKenney, a devoted and loving mother of four, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at her residence. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Richard and Gregory Harrison and Jean Thomasson, all of McKenney and Rachel Crabtree of Midlothian, Va.; two sisters, Maggie Parrish of Brodnax and Ada Wilkerson of Kenbridge, Va.; three grandchildren, Amy Crabtree, Annette Thomasson and Melody Thomasson. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Williams Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park, La Crosse. Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, in charge of arrangements.

HARTMAN
Nannie Lawson Hartman, 94, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away Thursday, May 3, 2001. Mrs. Hartman was a native of Johnson County, Tenn., and daughter of the late Wiley Lafette and Nancy Elizabeth Curry Arnold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Hartman, who died in 1968; a son, David L. Hartman; and a daughter, Blanche Dunn. She was a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, J.D. Hartman and Roy Frank Hartman of Aylett, Va., Jesse Coy Hartman Jr. of Mountain City; four daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hughes and Shelby Jean Flannigan of Mechanicsville, Betty Jo Hartman of Mountain City and Mildred Lee Martin of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two brothers, John E. Arnold of St. Louis, Coolidge Arnold of Mountain City; two sisters, Beulah Mink and Rosa Lee Dunn of Mountain City; 29 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Arrangements by the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. HILDEBRAND
Raymond B. Hildebrand of Richmond died Wednesday, May 9, 2001. He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hildebrand is survived by his sister, L. Minerva Yearwood and brother-in-law, Richard H. Yearwood of Richmond; nieces, Frances Bradley of New Jersey, Lois Sparks of Virginia, and Nancy H. Wagner of Colorado. Graveside services will be held in Clayton, New Jersey.

HINTON
William George Hinton, 68, of Clinton, Md., formerly of Farnham, died May 8, 2001. Survivors are his wife, Phyllis Newsome Hinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine E. and Al Beatty, Julie L. and Ed Barton; son and daughter-in-law, William G. III and Joy Hinton; grandchildren, William and Christina Hinton, Edward and Andrew Barton; mother-in-law, Edith N. Douglas. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodsit Church, Emmerton. Interment in the church cemetery. Friends may call 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials to Shriners Children's Hospital, c/o Almas Temple, 1315 'K' St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20005.

HOLT
John "Johnny" Andrew Holt III, 48, a resident of Beaverdam Rd. in Waverly, Va., died from injuries received in an accident while working in South Hill Va. on Wednesday, May 9, 2001. Johnny was born April 22, 1953 in Wakefield, Va. to John A. "Jimmy" Holt Jr. and Rose Bailey Holt. He worked for B.P. Short & Sons Paving Co. as an equipment operator. A loving husband and proud father, he was devoted to his family and church, Open Door Church in Suffolk, Va. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mays Holt of Waverly, Va.; his daughter, Shannon Marie Holt; sisters, Deane Holt Moore and husband, William of Ivor and Tammy Holt Cahoon and husband, Tom of Wakefield; nephews, Earl Holland Edwards Jr. and David Andrew Edwards; nieces, Heather Lynn Holt and Ruth Elizabeth Cahoon; and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held at Open Door Church, 816 Kings Fork Rd., Suffolk, Va. on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tony Peaks and the Rev. Kathy Peaks officiating. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Friday evening, 7 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at the residence. HOOD
Dorothy B. Hood of Richmond departed this life on Thursday, May 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Hood Sr. Mrs Hood was born March 5, 1906. She is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave., in Richmond at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 12. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.

LEWIT
Dorothy B. Lewit, 82, formerly of Turtle Creek, Pa., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001. She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 52 years, J.C. "Bud" Lewit; three sons and their wives, Wade M. McClintock and his wife, Violet, Lt. Col. (Sel.) Robert A. Lewit, USAF, and his wife, Anne, and Richard B. Lewit and his wife, Lynn; seven grandchildren, Wade III, Daniel, Asheley, Thomas, Brittani, Christopher and Jacob. Mrs. Lewit was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for 20 years and was a Past Worthy Matron of Tuckahoe Chapter No. 163 O.E.S. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street, where an Eastern Star memorial service will take place Friday at 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001. Interment to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park.

MARKMAN
Sandra Lynn Markman of Richmond died May 9, 2001. She is survived by her mother, Grace E. Dickens; sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Howard Alger; nephews, Mark and Michael Wick; and niece, Marlene Chinnajar. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Tikvat Israel with interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to AARF, P.O. 15262, Richmond, Va. 23227.

MARTIN
Kathryn Trevillian "Miss Kitty" Martin, 89, of Richmond, widow of R. Saunders Martin, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria M. Sydnor and her husband, Robert, and Helen M. Verlander and her husband, Wayne; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Virginia M. Booker and her husband, Tom. Mrs. Martin was a member of Patterson Avenue Baptist Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

MARTIN
Leonard W. Martin, 85, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, May 10, 2001. He is survived by two brothers, G. Temple Martin and Charles E. Martin; three sisters, Edna M. Beasley, L. Pearl Martin, and Emma M. Heath; seven nieces and nephews, and 17 great-nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Road, where services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. Interment Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the East Hanover Rescue Squad.

MCGRUDER
Joyce Tomblin McGruder, 70 of Richmond, widow of Stanley M. McGruder, died Sunday, May 6, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie McGruder; granddaughter, Crystal Grant; and brother Reginald Tomblin. Mrs. McGruder was a beautician with Lafayette Street Hair Studio. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the March of Dimes.

MITCHELL
Juanita Broughman Mitchell, 74, of Ruther Glen, formerly of Richmond, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001. She is survived by her son, Richard D. Mitchell Jr. of Sandston; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula Kendrick and Ross Lindsay of Ruther Glen; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. She will be missed.
