Robert Richardson Silver, age 74, of 2616 Barton Ave., Richmond, died April 20, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Murlene G. Silver; two sons, Lonnie H. Silver (Claudette) of Richmond and William H. Silver of Bridgeport, Conn.; a daughter, Margaret Ann Thomas (Richard) of New Haven, Conn.; a faithful cousin, Magdalene Silver; a stepson, James F. Daniels; a stepdaughter, Anita P. Stoudmire; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2737 Hungary Spring Rd.

SMITH
Maria Branch Smith, age 85, of Amelia and Dover, Delaware, died at her Amelia residence Thursday, April 19, 2001. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bernard M. Smith; sisters, Ethel B. Jones, Richmond, Shuefeldt B. Dobson, Norfolk and Mary Ann B. Hawkes, Blackstone; brother, Maxwell Branch, Amelia; sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Branch, Va. Beach and Nancy W. Branch, Fort Washington, Md.; brother-in-law, Maceo Jones, Richmond; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Friday, April 27, 1 p.m., Zion Hill Presbyterian Church, Amelia C.H. Burial Big Oak Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by V.Y. Scott Funeral Home, Hwy. 360 E. Amelia.

SNYDER
Maywood Snyder, 86, of Richmond, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth S. Snyder; two sons, Philip S. Snyder of Queenstown, MD and Thomas M. Snyder of Huntersville, NC; also six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Bashor and Myrtle Taylor both of Johnston City TN, and Wanda Elliott, Roanoke, VA; four brothers, Jason Worley Snyder, Johnston City, TN, Ben Snyder of Mountain City, TN, Floyd Snyder and John D. Snyder both of Elizabethton, TN. Mr. Snyder was retired from Southern State Co-Op. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Ginter Park United Methodist Church. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. SPAIN
Russell Melvin Spain, a native of Petersburg, died suddenly April 24, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Kristina S. Mednikov and her husband, Robert and Lisa C. Spain; one son, Russell Melvin Spain III; granddaughter, Emma C. Mednikov; grandson, Thomas J. Mednikov; a stepdaughter, Jennie Tomlin-Phipps and her husband, Scott; two step-grandchildren; a brother, Charles W. Spain; a sister, Rebecca S. Bish. Mr. Spain was retired from Phillip-Morris with over 30 years of service. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, with burial in Hollywood Cemetery.

SPELL
Estell M. Spell of Richmond, died Tuesday April 24, 2001. She was the widow of William Owen Spell. She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Margaret Creasy. Remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

STEWART
Charles Edward Stewart, 68, of Tappahannock, passed away April 24, 2001. He was born May 13, 1932 in Joplin, Mo. He served in the US Navy from 1950-1954. For 30 years, he worked as a customer engineer for the IBM Corporation, retiring in 1987. Then he went to work for the Vitro Corporation until 1992. In retirement, he enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his family and the community. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Marie of Tappahannock; two sons, Scott Edward of Howertons and Brian David Stewart of Fairfax, Va.; daughter, Mindy Jane Hare of Waldorf, Md.; four grandchildren, Hunter, Kelsey, Harrison and Logan. The family acknowledges special appreciation to the devoted staff of Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and a special thanks for the well wishes and prayers of the community. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock after which a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes. TAYLOR
Linwood L. Taylor Sr. of Lanham, Md., formerly of Richmond, died April 23, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Janie F. Taylor; son, Linwood L. Taylor Jr.; sister, Bessie A. Taylor; brothers, Percell M. Taylor Jr., Earle P. Taylor and Willard G. Taylor; niece, Katherine Taylor Goodwin; nephew, Percell M. Taylor III; and many other family members and friends.

WARD
Dorothy C. Ward, age 83, of Hartfield, widow of Alfred G. Ward, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. Survived by son, Kenneth G. Wingfield of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Peggy W. Loving of Remlik; three stepsons, Alfred, Leon and Carl Ward all of Onancock; a sister, Margaret McNaney of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a grandson, Wesley Clark. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Interment will be in Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Betty Page Bristow, P.O. Box 22, Urbanna, Va. 23175.

WEBB
Gladys Shealor Webb, 92, widow of Wilmer Webb of Mineral, Va., passed away April 24, 2001. She is survived by two nieces, Shealor Ann Donaldson of Portsmouth, Va. and Evelyn Barnes of Shalimar, Fla.; and a number of great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 27 at 11 a.m. at Mineral Baptist Church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, Va., on Thursday, April 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. Woodward Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

WICKLINE
Dan Wickline died April 23, 2001 at age 92. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Loftin and is survived by his daughters, Susan W. McCray, Nancy K. Wickline and Mary Patricia Wyman and her husband, Daniel; grandchildren, David F. Willis, Kimberly M. Wyman, Amy E. Wyman and Christopher K. McCray; nephew, David P. Wickline III; and niece, Hannah Wickline. Mr. Wickline was a WWII veteran, serving as a lieutenant with the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion. He graduated from VPI and was a member of the National Honor Society. He retired from the State of Virginia as an architect previously in private practice. Graveside services will be held in Lynchburg, Va. at Presbyterian Cemetery on Friday, April 27 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross. The family will receive friends at the home on Nottoway Ave. on Thursday evening, 6 to 9 p.m.

ABERNATHY
Richard Fittz Abernathy, 86, of Lake Land'Or, died on November 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Neta Tarkington Abernathy; and his children, Richard T. Abernathy of Richmond, Ronald F. Abernathy of Alexandria, Cheryl K. Abernathy of Richmond, and Douglas T. Abernathy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; also surviving are three grandchildren, Dr. Marc Jeffrey Abernathy of Jacksonville, Ill., Mrs. Stephanie A. Allison and her husband, John Allison of San Diego, Calif., and Ms. Laura Wade Abernathy of Bothell, Wash.; and two great-grandchildren, Jenny and Danny Allison of San Diego. He was co-founder of the L.S. Abernathy Construction Co. and a member of the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge #131. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., and where funeral service will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. Rev. Bob Lewandowski officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 18580 Partlow Rd., Beaverdam, Va. 23015.

ALBRECHT
Harold L. Albrecht of Richmond died Sunday, November 11, 2001. He was born on December 9, 1921, the son of the late Lena Stahl and John Henry Albrecht in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn L., Homer, H. Virgil Albrecht; and his sisters, Betty A. Mercer and Dalores A. Gansley, all of Portsmouth, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruby Vaughan Albrecht; a daughter and her husband, Elizabeth A. and Robert W. Strand of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Linda Susan Albrecht of Richmond; two grandsons, Peter A. and Andrew M. Strand, both of Fredericksburg; a brother, John F. Albrecht or Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Louise Davis of Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Albrecht was a member of River Road Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Portsmouth High School and Ohio State University, and a veteran of the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a CPA with Ernst and Ernst in Cleveland, Ohio, treasurer of Faultless Rubber Co. of Ashland, Ohio, and a retired vice president of Reynolds Metals Co., Richmond, Va. Mr. Albrecht was a member of Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club in Kilmarnock, a past member of Kanawha Swim and Racquet Club, Willow Oaks Country Club, and had served as treasurer of Sleepy Hollow Civic Association. A memorial service will be held at River Road Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to River Road Presbyterian Church, Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Salvation Army.

BARNES
Virginia Myrick Barnes, 64, of Colonial Heights, died on Monday, November 12, 2001 at her residence. She was a native of Brunswick County and was the daughter of the late Robert Leslie and Irene Williams Myrick. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Ivey United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kay Barnes. She is survived by her husband, Albert "Country" Barnes; a daughter, Pamela Barnes Hoffman; two grandchildren, Amanda Kaye Trent and Edwin E. Trent Jr., all of Colonial Heights; three brothers, Robert Myrick of Norfolk, Va., Eddie Myrick and wife, Peggy of Emporia, and Herbert Myrick and wife, Faye of Chase City, Va.; one sister, Edna Welton and husband, Bobby of Glen Allen, Va.; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Thursday, November 15, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va., with the Rev. Marcus Riggs officiating. Burial to follow in Barnes Family Cemetery, Dolphin, Va. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Thomas L. Bell, age 61, of 1201 Carlisle Ave., died November 10, 2001. He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne L. Bell; and brother, Herbert H. Bell Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Cheryl Bell-Jones, Sharon E. and Tracy D. Bell; three grandsons, James Anthony Jr., Charol and Charles Jones III; two brothers, Walter and Robert Bell; one sister, Constance Mosley; one son-in-law, Charles E. Jones Jr.; two sisters-in-law; one aunt, Gracie Murphy; one uncle, Clyde Basset; a longtime companion, Geraldine Miles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, one loving, Little Miss Geraldine Miles. Mrs. Louise J. Brands, died Saturday, November 10, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Glenn E. Brands; one son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Lora B. Brands; one brother, Henry S. Johnson Jr.; one sister, Billie J. White, both of Cedar Bluff, Va.; one grandson, Cory A. Brands; and several nieces and nephews. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2001, with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. BUSTER
Mrs. Mary Alice Buster, of 3203 Tuxedo Boulevard, departed this life on Friday, November 9, 2001. She was affectionately known as "May Baby." Surviving are seven children, Janet Anderson, Guy Buster Jr., Darnella Buster, Juanita Buster, Patricia Buster, Teresa Cooper and Vincent Buster; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delores Howard, Arlene Lewis and Barbara Davis; several nieces, nephews and cousins; other family to include Guy Buster Sr., Ethel Buster, Harold Davis and Jesse Davis; and several close friends including Georgia Keith, Alberta Henderson, Naomi Brodie and Sallye Little. She was a retired City of Richmond employee and was an active and beloved member of 31st Street Baptist Church where she served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, usher and Missionary. Other church and civic involvement included the Progressive League, the Nutrition Ministry, the Center for Advancing Self Help, the Ladies Ushers Union Auxiliary, the R.B. Rainey Ushers Choir, the United Order of Tents, the AARP and Voter Education/Registration efforts. Remains rest at Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 "N" Street. After 12 noon Wednesday remains will rest in 31st Street Baptist Church, 823 N. 31st Street, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Dr. Darrel Rollins officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the MCV Hospitals, Thomas Hospice Palliative Care Unit. www.legacy.com.
