KEENAN
Carol Sutherland Keenan died on November 11, 2001. She was the widow of Joseph Hayes Keenan, who preceded her in death on September 20, 2001. The daughter of Nell Davison and Clifton Emmett Sutherland, Carol was born December 27, 1937 in Shanghai, China and returned with her parents to the States shortly before the Japanese invasion. A graduate of Collegiate Schools of Richmond and Vassar College, she worked in the Frick Art Reference Library, a division of the World Council of Churches, then as an accountant for Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. She married Mr. Keenan in New York City in 1966 and returned with him to Richmond in 1974. She was a dedicated and hard working volunteer for numerous organizations. A driving force at Virginia House, she worked in the garden, in the house and became their expert on Silver and Makers' Marks. A devotee of theatre and opera, she served for a time on the Board of the Virginia Opera and behind the scenes at Theatre Virginia. She was a member of the Battle Abbey Council of the Virginia Historical Society and the John Garland Pollard Associates of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. A memorial gathering will be held at the Virginia House Museum, 4301 Sulgrave Road, Richmond, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2001. Memorial gifts for Mrs. Keenan can be made to the Virginia Historical Society, P.O. Box 7311, Richmond, Va. 23221.

KING
Margaret M. King, formerly of Scottsdale, Ariz., widow of Charles G. King, died Monday, November 12, 2001. She was an administrative assistant and teacher in Colorado Springs. Survivors include her niece, Dorothy Lee Walshe of Midlothian; grandniece, Virginia Rocke of Glen Allen; five additional grandnieces and one grandnephew. A funeral service will take place in Colorado Springs at a later date.

KOCSIS
Helen O. Kocsis, 85, of Richmond, died Monday, November 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Poore Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Betty S. Sydnor; son, Frank Sperisen Jr.; brother, Richard Parkinson; and sister, Mary Brinkley; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and where services will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Ms. Kocsis was an honorably discharged Army veteran, received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal.

KOSTYK
Anna H. Kostyk, died Tuesday, November 12, 2001. She is survived by her son, Myron Kostyk; her daughter and son-in-law, Irena K. and Edward Troxell; sister, Sonia Yanchek; brother, Peter Hentysz; grandchildren, Valerie Kostyk, Joseph Troxell and Sonia T. Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Shannan and Lauren Mitchell. The family will receive friends at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday followed by the Parastos. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Comboni Missionary Sisters Chapel, 1307 Lakeside Avenue. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

LEAKE
Charles R. Leake Sr., 62, of Sandston, Va., passed away Sunday, November 11, 2001. He was a veteran of the Air Force and was retired from Local No. 10, Plumbers and Steamfitters. He is survived by his son, Charles R. Leake Jr. of Glen Allen; his daughter, Dawn L. Kirby of Sandston; two sisters, Vondell Turlington of Williamsburg, and Ann Casper of Woodbridge, Va.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.

LEE
Departed this life November 9, 2001, Robert H. Lee of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Leabough Lee. A retired employee of Thalhimers Dept. Store (Fur Dept.), WWII veteran--U.S. Army, member of Social 6 FA&M Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Brown Lee; one son, Robert B. Lee; one grandson, Wilfred Pollock; two sisters, Loretta Lee and Beatrice Hunter; one brother, Clarence Lee; several nieces, nephews and cousins; three sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. G.G. Campbell officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the funeral home 12:45 p.m. Wednessday.

LINDHOLM
Frederick W. "Fred" Lindholm Jr., 65, widower of Barbara Carter Lindholm and a retired business owner, died Sunday, November 11, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. Mr. Lindholm was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Korean Conflict, certified Master Gardner and 4-H adult volunteer. He previously owned and operated Western Auto of Clarksville, Lighthouse Motel and Restaurant and a service station. Survivors are daughter, Karen L. Morris of Virgilina; sons, Fred W. Lindholm III of Roxboro, N.C. and Vincent M. Lindholm of Skipwith; brothers, Robert F. Lindholm of Falls Church and John M. Lindholm of New Milford, Conn.; sisters, Julia Paquin of Clearwater, Fla. and Linda Cabaniss of Clover. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara Lindholm; and his parents, Frederick W. Lindholm Sr. and Helen Knicely Lindholm. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel with interment in Oakhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.

LIPSCOMB
Cynthia Annette (Cindy) Lipscomb, age 40, of Midlothian, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2001. She is survived by her mother and father, Thelma and Cabell Lipscomb; a brother, Cabell Lipscomb III; an aunt and uncle, Ellen and Carlyle Moore; and a devoted friend, Susan Moore. Cindy was a senior assistant manager of Burger King, across from Chesterfield Town Center and was loved by everyone. In her teen years, she played in the Chesterfield MSA fast pitch league and was crowned as MSA of Virginia. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruther Glen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MCV Massey Cancer Center.

LUCAS
Frances Steele Lucas of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2001. Born in Cherry Tree, West Virginia, she was raised and educated in Logan Co., West Virginia, where she was an outstanding high school basketball player. She was a Williamsburg resident for the last 42 years and served many volunteer hours with Walsingham Academy. She retired as supervisor of catalog sales at Sears-Roebuck, Williamsburg. Mrs. Lucas was also a life member and chaplain of the Peninsula Branch Ladies Auxiliary #172, Fleet Reserve Association. Mrs. Lucas enjoyed sports, gardening and reading. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, C.G.M. Ret. Kenneth W. Lucas; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Kenneth W. Jr. and Ellen M. Lucas, Richmond, Va.; daughter, Jeanie Lucas, Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Kenny W. Lucas III and wife, Becky, Arlington, Va., Ashley E. Lucas, Richmond, Va., and Michael E. Lucas, Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at 2 p.m. from Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, with burial following in Williamsburg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Walsingham Academy or York Co. Rescue Squad-Bruton Division.

McDONALD
Joseph B. McDonald, 78, of Chesterfield County, died November 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Virginia McDonald; and three daughters, Beverly Whitlock, Barbara McDonald and Margery McDonald. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 17, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, 1500 Courthouse Rd., Richmond, Va. 23236. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund, Central Baptist Church.

MERTENS
Marian Catherine Mertens, 79, of Bonita Springs, Fla., passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2001. Born in Baltimore, Md., she came to Bonita Springs two years ago from Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. She was also a former resident of Richmond, Va. Mrs. Mertens was the first female armed security guard at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Survivors include her sons, Wilmore (Sherry) Mertens of Bonita Springs, Fla., Bruce (Margaret) Mertens of Richmond, Va., and Richard Mertens of of Maui, Hawaii; daughter, Catherine (Richard) Moore of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren. Friends are invited to gather for graveside funeral services on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Naples Memorial Gardens, Naples, Fla. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions to the American Diabethes Association, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Rd., #415, Maitland, Fla. 32751. Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, (941) 992-4982, is in charge of arrangements.

METZ
Betty Pouliot Metz, 88, of Ridgefield, Conn., wife of the late George E. Metz, died Friday in the Danbury Hospital. Survivors include three sons, J. Raymond Metz of Ridgefield, Conn., Donald Metz of Danbury, Conn. and Henry Metz of Wells, Maine; one daughter, Lily White of Powhatan, Va.; one brother, John Pouliot of Edison, N.J.; one sister, Arlene O'Sullivan of Bethel, Conn.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass and burial took place in Norwalk, Conn. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

PAYNE
Miss Georgie Payne, age 85, of Kents Store, died November 12, 2001 in a Richmond Hospital. Born March 15, 1916, a daughter of the late Joseph T. and Ella Roberts Payne. She was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church and of the Fork Union Eastern Star Chapter No. 111. She is survived by a brother, Louie W. Payne; a nephew, George Franklin Payne; a niece, Jo Anne P. Zickefoose; a great-nephew, Scott Zickefoose; and a great-niece, Amy Zickefoose, all of Kents Store. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Martin and Rev. Tim Jones. Family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. this afternoon and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, with Eastern Star Rites.

PERKINS
Henry N. Perkins, 86, of Mechanicsville, a devoted husband and loving father, died Saturday, November 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Anne E. Perkins; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy P. Blake of Mechanicsville and Mrs. Janice P. Anderson of Richmond; two grandchildren, Mrs. Carole B. Wagner of Charlotte, N.C. and Mr. Michael L. Long of Richmond; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Perkins was a veteran of WWII. He owned and operated the G & P Grocery Store in Church Hill prior to going to work for Richmond Dairy. Mr. Perkins retired from Curles Neck Dairy. The family will receive friends Monday, November 12, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. Interment Church of Our Savior, Montpelier, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Holly Ridge-Lakeside Christian Church in Mechanicsville.

PITTMAN
Virgil Leonard Pittman Sr., age 68, of Regina, Va., died Sunday, November 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Jett Pittman; two sons, Virgil "Len" Pittman and his wife, Rachel Cauley, Houston, Texas, Dannie Pittman and his wife, Kim, Regina, Va., a daughter, Joanne P. Hinson and her husband, Alan, Kilmarnock, Va.; four grandchildren, Jessica and Taylor Hinson and Shane and Micaela Pittman; a brother, Asa Pittman, Regina, Va.; a sister, June Lee, Kilmarnock, Va.; an aunt, Ruby doggett, Tappahannock, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Pittman. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Kilmarnock, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Claybrook Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 15, Weems, Va. 22576.

POWELL
Jacquelyn D. Powell, 50, of Bowling Green, died Sunday, November 11, 2001 at Mary Washington Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Dean Powell of Bowling Green; a son, John D. "Jack" Powell II of Bowling Green; her father, Jack D. Brunton of Ashland; a sister, Kerri Brunton Valentine of Ashland; and two nieces, Lenna Morgan Valentine and Kelly Lynn Valentine, both of Ashland. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 16 at Salem Baptist Church, Sparta. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association. Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, is handling arrangements.
