RUCKER
Elsie Virginia Rucker, age 90, of Richmond, departed this life November 9, 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Hortense (Samuel) McLaughlin, Faith Craddock and Edmonia (Thomas) Wade; son, Lawrence (Mae) Rucker Sr.; 12 grandchildren, among them three devoted, Lynette Dorsey, Jacqueline Johnson and Royce Craddock, two very devoted, Joyce Johnson and Jeffrey Craddock; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Nancy Kelley; two brothers-in-law, Robert and Phillip Rucker; and a host of other relatives and friends, among them one devoted friend, Bridgette Craddock. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St. Remains will lie in state Wednesday 12 noon at Morning Star Baptist Church, 3509 Midlothian Turnpike, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Jimmy I. McCrary officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

SALMON
Geraldine French Salmon, 91, of Chesterfield, widow of William F. Salmon, died on Monday, November 12, 2001. Mrs. Salmon was born in Bland County, Va., and was the daughter of the late John C. and Dolly McNiel French. Formerly of Telstar Dr., Richmond. She was retired from Crawford Manufacturing Co., and had attended Salem Baptist Church for many years, having been a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. She was a lifelong member of Wessondonck United Methodist Church in Bland. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Julius, Busch, Robert and Guy. Mrs. Salmon is survived by her daughter, Betty S. Elko and son-in-law, Joseph of Chesterfield; two grandsons, Joseph (J.B.) of Richmond and Jacob of Chesterfield; one sister, Beatrice F. Burton of Akron, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with the Rev. Wayne T. Monroe of Narrows, Va. officiating. Burial to follow in Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Wessondonck United Methodist Church, c/o Robert W. French, Rt. 2, Box 242, Bland, Va. 24315.

SAVAGE
A. Richard "Dick" Savage Sr., 75, of Powhatan, went to be with our Lord Saturday, November 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ruth T. Savage; daughter, Deborah S. Williamson and her husband, Steve; son, Alvin Richard Savage Jr. of Detroit, Mich.; sister, Jean S. Chitwood of Gainesville, Ga.; brothers, Cecil Savage of Geneva, Ala., and Phillip Savage of Gainesville, Ga.; and a granddaughter, Sierra Savage. Mr. Savage was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving our country during WWII. He was vice president of the former Barker Construction Co. His family will receive friends Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rt. 10). Funeral service for Mr. Savage will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Branch's Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Branch's Baptist Church, Building and Grounds Fund, 3400 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23234.

SEIWELL
Gladys Massei Seiwell, 90, died Saturday, November 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; and her son, Toby. She is survived by her daughter, Anne McCabe of Warrenton, Va.; four grandchildren, Kassandra Seiwell of Portland, Maine, Kevin McCabe of Catharpin, Va., Teresa McCabe of Winchester, Va. and Kathleen McCabe of New York, N.Y.; and four great grandchildren, Daniel, Shaun and Joseph McCabe and Tre McCabe-White. Mrs. Seiwell was a former teacher in Richmond Public Schools and the Campus School at Longwood College. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2001, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Richmond, Va.

SMITH
Charlie W. Smith of Richmond, Va., departed this life Sunday, November 11, 2001. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland, Virginia. Funeral notice later.

SMITH
Mrs. Lottie "Ann" Rutherford Smith, age 71, of Richmond, died Sunday, November 11, 2001. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carter W. Rutherford; and brothers, Stuart, Pete and Earl Rutherford. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Paul Julian Smith; her daughters, Cindy S. Osborne and Becky A. Smith; son-in-law, Bruce Osborne; granddaughters, Callie, Kelsey and Wren Osborne; sister, Ruth R. Babcock of Westerly, R.I.; aunt, Margaret R. Yancey of Petersburg; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong native of Richmond. She was 1948 graduate of T.J. High School and former employee of C&P Telephone company. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Tuesday 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:30 a.m. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.

Departed this life November 10, 2001, Deaconess Verna W. Stevens of Richmond. She is survived by one sister, Doris Washington Hoover; nephew, Ira P. (Joanne) Washington; great-nephew, Michael (Tracey) Washington; two devoted nieces, Betty Martin and Phyllis Ohree; two great-nieces, Tracy James and Brandy Washington; one great-great-nephew; one great-great-niece; a brother-in-law, Cornelius Hoover; other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St. Remains will lie in state Wednesday 12 noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 P St., where services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Robert L. STRICKLAND
William H. "Hugh" Strickland Jr., 69, of Midlothian, widower of Juanita B. Strickland, joined his wife in heaven November 10, 2001. He was a retired engineer from Virginia Power. He is survived by his daughters, Della S. Nobles of Montpelier, and Rebecca S. Millner of Chesapeake; son, W. Hugh Strickland III of Midlothian; grandsons, Hunter Nobles, Gregory Millner Jr. and David Strickland; granddaughters, Lauren Strickland and Kelsie Millner; sister, Janice S. Green of Norfolk; and his mother-in-law, Katherine L. Beamon of Midlothian. Mr. Strickland was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

THOMPSON
Edwin V. Thompson of Richmond, formerly of Hewlett, entered eternal rest November 9, 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ernestine Thompson; one daughter and her husband, Kathy T. and Willie Henderson; four grandchildren, Stephanie Thompson, Cassius, Noble and Octavia Henderson; one great-grandchild, Shaniel Thompson; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry St., Ashland. Funeral Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Noel, Va. Rev. E.R. Shambry Jr., Pastor. Eulogy by Rev. W.E. Taylor Jr. Interment church cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral service. The Dabneys' Morticians, in charge of arrangements.

TRICE
Cordelia Southworth Edwards Trice died November 12, 2001, widow of Everett J. Edwards Sr. and Ellis B. Trice. Survived by daughter, Frances E. Griffin and husband, John; and son, Everett J. Edwards Jr. and wife, Frances; one sister, Doris S. Bernardini; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Charles B. Southworth; one sister, Jannie S. Cecil; and one grandson, Joseph Edwards. She was retired from VDOT. Family will receive friends Tuesday night 6 to 9 p.m. at B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the King William Rescue Squad or Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 818, Tappahannock.

ABRAMS
Fred M. Abrams, 84, of Richmond, died Monday, May 27, 2002. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eveline K. Abrams; and two sisters, Celia Fleisher and Reba Axelrod. He is survived by two devoted sisters, Sophie Farber (Morton) of Weldon, N.C. and Wilma Kline of Bethesda, Md.; also six loving nieces and nephews, William Fleisher of Royersford, Pa., Susan Melnick of Bensalem, Pa., Henry Farber of Atlanta, Ga., Maralyn Farber of Bethesda, Md., Ben Kline of Vienna, Va., Sandra Sherman of Sterling, Va.; eight great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his late wife's two sons, Donald Kocen of Richmond and Larry Kocen of Vienna, Va. and their children. Mr. Abrams was honored to have served as president of Rimmon Dominion Lodge of B'nai B'rith in the year 1965 on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in Richmond, Va. He was a lifetime member of Temple Beth El. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Richmond Beth El Cemetery at Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beth Shalom Home or Temple Beth El.

ADT
June Reynolds Adt, 70, of Richmond, died May 26, 2002. She was retired from Philip Morris after 38 years. She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Reynolds of Buckingham; six sisters, Janie Cimino and Lynda Arndt, both of Richmond, Etheleen Shumaker, Annette Blanks and Arlene Childress, all of Buckingham and Joyce Brinkley of Woodstock; a number of nieces and nephews, other devoted family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dilwyn with interment in St. Andrews Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

BAILEY
Mary Elizabeth Bailey, 84, retired guidance counselor at Petersburg High School, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Southside Regional Medical Center. A native of Conway, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lallah Bailey. She was also the sister of the late Martha B. Stout. Miss Bailey received her bachelor's degree in 1939 from Madison College (now James Madison University) and began her teaching career in Altavista, Virginia. In 1943 she came to Petersburg High School as a home economics teacher. In the late 1950's she became a guidance counselor and after earning her master's degree at the University of Virginia in 1969, she became the school's director of guidance. For most of her career at Petersburg High she sponsored the cheerleaders and co-sponsored The Gold Blazers, a pep club. After retirement in 1985, she was named Guidance Counselor Emeritus. This year she was honored for being the first to achieve 50 years of service as a member of the Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a national sorority of teachers. Miss Bailey is survived by a niece, Mary Ann Jayroc (Robert) of Huntsville, Ala.; a great-niece, Janet J. Bethay (David) and their daughter, Bailey, of Merritt Island, Fla.; a great-nephew, Robert Jayroc (Monica) of Montgomery, Ala.; and godchildren, Mary B. and Morris Betts of Petersburg and Graves Tompkins of Princeton, New Jersey. There will be a memorial service for her at Trinity Methodist Church in Petersburg on Saturday, June 1, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. There will be a visitation period in the church parlor prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Southside Virginia Emergency Crew, P.O. Box 574, Petersburg, Va. 23804, or Trinity Methodist Church, 215 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Va. 23803.

BALTRIP
Departed this life May 20, 2002 in Yazoo, Mississippi, Mac Edward Baltrip. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Mae Baltrip; sons, Edward L. and Cedric L. Baltrip and Amon Dykes, all of California; four grandchildren; two sisters, Lowery L. and Stephanie Baltrip; four aunts, one devoted, Georgia Christian; two uncles, one devoted, Percell Williams; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, one daughter-in-law, a niece and other relatives and friends. Betty M. Belvin, age 77, retired from C&P Telephone, died at her home in Richmond May 27, 2002. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a former member of the Henrico Democratic Committee, a member of the Mechanicsville Chapter No. 138 of the Order of Eastern Star and within the Degree of Pocahontas she was a Past Great Pocahontas. She is survived by her nephew, B.E. Brinkley of Richmond. Funeral services conducted by Chaplain Karl Netting will be held Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Gloucester Point Cemetery. Ms. Belvin has requested memorial contributions be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Pkwy., Richmond, Va. 23227 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. G.
