WELSHIMER
Dr. Herbert J. Welshimer, 81, of Richmond, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Welshimer; and is survived by three daughters, Dr. Kathleen Welshimer, Susan Welshimer Shaw and Nancy Welshimer; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Second Presbyterian Church, 5 North Fifth Street. Entombment Hollywood Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Second Presbyterian Church restoration fund or the Alzheimer's Association.

WILLIAMS
Ann Marie Byrne Williams, 76, of Old Church, Va., passed away at her home on February 11, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Benjamin Brooks Williams III; her seven children and their spouses, Benjamin B. Williams IV and Marian, Dennis D. Williams and Annie, Christopher C. Williams and Kim, Mary Anne W. Lange and Jimmy, Theresa W. Harvey and Kevin, Jayne W. Martin and Kyle, Kevin K. Williams and Kathie; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three sisters, Sister Ambrose Byrne, D.C. of Emmitsburg, Md., Catherine B. Ragland of Richmond, Va. and Margaret B. Nolte of Houston, Texas. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 1 p.m. at Church of the Redeemer Catholic Church, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. Interment to follow at Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to to Benedictine or St. Gertrude High Schools.

WOODSON
Bessie Newton Woodson, age 80, of Richmond, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002. She was the widow of Russell W. Woodson. She is survived by two brothers, James S Newton and his wife, Doris and Earl S. Newton and his wife, Arlene; two sisters, Emma N Gentile and her husband, Philip and Audrey A. Nuckols and her husband, Earl; and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends Wednesday 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Providence United Methodist Church. Interment in church cemetery.

YOUNG
Kathryn H. Young, 78, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2002. She was the widow of Elmer C. Young. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Adams of Richmond; a son, Terry Young of Kannapolis, N.C.; grandchildren, Mary Catlett, Amber Catlett and Travis Adams; a sister, Frances Hudson of Colonial Heights. "Kat" touched many lives and was loved by all. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.

ANDERSON
Richard Earl Anderson, 72, of Colonial Heights, Va., passed away February 20, 2001 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Alice Anderson; and his son, Gary Robert Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Penny) Anderson; two daughters, Susan Anderson of San Diego, Calif. and Donna Lee Troutman and her husband, Curtis Troutman of Cressona, Pa.; two sons, Richard Anderson of Colonial Heights and Terry Anderson of Boston, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Kristi Anderson and J.C. Anderson, both of Colonial Heights. A decorated Korean War veteran, he was employed by White's Automotive Sales in Chester, Va. Final arrangements were made by the Cremation Society of Virginia and private interment will follow in Callicoon, N.Y.

BAUGHAN
Margaret Elizabeth Wilson Baughan passed away on February 24, 2001. She was born on July 5, 1915 in Roanoke, Va., where she graduated from Jefferson High School. After graduation, she began working at Woolworth's where she was promoted to a management track and later worked at McKesson Robins. Mrs. Baughan moved to Richmond in 1946 and became a homemaker and mother. An avid reader, she also volunteered at the Dumbarton Library. Mrs. Baughan was a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifton Merit Baughan, and is survived by a daughter, Judy Baughan Lankford; and a son, Michael Wilson Baughan, both of Richmond. She also leaves a host of loving family and friends. All who knew her will miss her loving kindness, gentleness, devotion and sense of fun. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 27 at Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 8 N. Laurel Street. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace and Holy Trinity Church or the Salvation Army.

BEARD
William "McDonald" Beard Jr., age 42, of King William County, Va. passed away suddenly at his residence Thursday, February 22, 2001. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, William and Elizabeth Beard Sr. of King William, Va.; two sisters, Rev. Evelyn D. Beard and Mable Beard-Heiskill of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Roderick Beard of King William, Va. His remains rest at B.W. White Funeral Home, 20408 King William Rd., King William, Va. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Baptist Liberty Baptist Church Youth Department, 3518 E. River Road, King William, Va. 23086.

BERRY
Mary Alice Berry, 55, of Bumpass, Va. passed away February 24, 2001. She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Olen Berry. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Pete" Berry Jr.; her children, Alma Marie Zervos, Christina Lynn Vassey, and John Gregory Berry; brothers, Russell Earl Jr., Larry Douglas, and George Edward Lego; sisters, Florence Ann Wyrick, Betty Jane Berry, and Thelma Jean Davenport; mother-in-law, Alma Lucille Berry; grandsons, Brian Scott Goode, George Creighton Vassey III, Nicholas Lawrence Zervos, Michael Theodore Zervos; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Swindells. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Rd, 8510 Staples Mill Chapel., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

BILLINGS
Sarah Jo Crawford Billings, of Richmond, died Saturday, February 24, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Regina S. Crawford of Farmville, Va. She is survived by her husband, William D. Billings; son, Peter Billings of Florence, S.C.; daughter, Nancy Jo Billings of Richmond; four grandchildren, Laura Isner, David Billings, Sally Kwapisz and Peter Kwapisz; and two sisters, Hannah C. Reynolds of Luray, Va. and Regina C. Whitehead of Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Billings was a member of Sycamore Presbyterian Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 27 in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gideons International, the S.P.C.A. or a charity of your choice.

BRADSHAW
Blanche T. Bradshaw, age 77, of Crewe, widow of Thomas Henry Bradshaw Sr., died Saturday, February 24, 2001. She was predeceased by a son, Tommy H. Bradshaw Jr. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dot B. Lawson and her husband, Paul Jr. of Crewe; two grandchildren, Brandon Bradshaw and Eddie Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Nicole and Ethan Lee Rogers; one sister, Betty Thompson of Farmville; two brothers, Dillard Thompson of Richmond and Willard Thompson of Rice. Mrs. Bradshaw was a member of the Crewe Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2001, Dr. Ben Powers officiating. Interment in Westview Cemetery, Farmville. The family will receive friends at the Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nottoway County Emergency Squad, Crewe Fire Department Building Fund or Crewe Baptist Church.

BRENT
Mary Alice B. Brent, 80, of Kilmarnock, widow of Lester Harry Brent Sr., died February 24, 2001. She is survived by six children, Barbara B. Lewis and her husband, Bobby Lewis of White Stone, Shirley B. Davis of White Stone and her husband, the late John E. Davis, Bonnie B. Anthony and her husband, Tommy Anthony of Burgess, Dennis Brent and his wife, Patty Brent of Weens, Tommy Brent and his wife, Mary Brent of Lancaster, Lester Brent and his wife, Sue Brent of Kilmarnock; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Essie Gill of Lancaster and Florence Bartlett of Richmond; one son-in-law, Coley B. Davis II of Lancaster; and one sister-in-law, Marie Barrack of Maryland. She was predeceased by one daughter, Betty Leah Davis. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 27, at 2 p.m., with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Nellie Carter of Richmond departed this life Friday, February 23, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home. Funeral notice later.

COGBILL
Wilburn Lee Cogbill, 61, of Chesterfield, departed this life Friday, February 23, 2001 at his home. He is survived by his brother, Tillman (Billy) Cogbill and his wife, Beaulah Elaine Cogbill and her children, Marvin Saul (Martha), James Saul (Edna), Jack Price (Laura), Virginia Gittman (Charles), Alice Dion (David), Linda Dell (Wayne); and their children. Wilburn was retired from Chesterfield County School Board with 23 years of service in the maintenance department. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, and where a service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment at Branch's Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts to the New Vision Fund, Second Branch Baptist Church, 12217 Second Branch Rd., Chesterfield, Va. 23838.

COLLEY
Donald Lee Colley Sr., 75, of Montross, died on Saturday, February 24, 2001. Mr. Colley was the widower of Ruth Louise Hall Colley and a WWII Army veteran. He is survived by a son, Donald L. Colley Jr. of Colonial Beach; two daughters, Susan Haydon, Warsaw, and Shelia Taylor, Montross; two brothers, Joseph "Bunnie" Colley, Ashland, Silas Colley, Mascot, Va.; and a sister, Shirley Elliott, Mechanicsville. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Carmel United Methodist Church, Kinsale, Va. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the Welch Funeral Home, Montross, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmel United Methodist Church Youth Group, c/o Shelia Taylor, 350 McGuires Warf Rd., Montross, Va. 22520.

DAVIS
John Samuel Davis, 89, of Richmond, passed away at his home February 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Helen Stackpole Davis; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Simpson and husband, William, and Deana Sun and husband, Brian; one stepson, William R. Stackpole and wife, Elizabeth; two stepgrandchildren, Matthew and Elliott Sun; two sisters, Elizabeth Robb of Richmond and Virginia Smith of Rockford, Ill.; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis was a former insurance agent for Continental Life Insurance Co. and a retired insurance agent with Life Insurance Company of Virginia. He was a member of First Congregational Christian Church of Richmond and Moose Lodge No. 699. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Christian Church, 4310 Courthouse Rd., Richmond, Va. 23832 or Afton United Methodist Church, Ophelia, Va. 22530.

DOWDY
Joyce A. Dowdy, 56, of Farmville, died February 24, 2001. She is survived by her mother, Berlyne Coates; her husband, Phillip Wayne Dowdy; a daughter, Adrienne Nicole Dowdy of Farmville; a son, William Erbie Hawkins Jr. of Amelia; a sister, Loretta Mae Coates Austin of Farmville. Mrs. Dowdy was an employee of the Virginia State Employment Commission. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at the Pisgah Baptist Church, Rice, Va., with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday (today) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, Va. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Prince Edward County Rescue Squad.

FRAZIER
Mrs. Louise Ayscue Frazier, age 85, of Lawrenceville, Va. died February 25, 2001 at her residence. The family will receive friends Monday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, Va., where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Vance United Church of Christ in Epsom, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, Lawrenceville, Va. 23868.

GALLANT
Elizabeth A. (Betty) Gallant, 51, of Richmond died February 23, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Les Gallant; two stepdaughters, Toni Smith and Terri Mata; two brothers, Fred Hale and wife, Janice, Tom Hale; one sister, Barbara Green; four grandchildren, and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, followed by a prayer service at 8 p.m.
