MORRIS
Mr. Andrew Morris, 67, died Thursday, August 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Morris; one daughter, Sandra Palilonis and husband, Steve of Pittman, N.J.; one son, Michael Morris and wife, Lesia of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Andrew Palilonis and Amy Palilonis, both of Pittman, N.J.; two sisters, Audrey Braswell of Denton, Texas, and Geraldine Smith of Richmond, Va. The funeral service will be held graveside 2 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Gardens of Emporia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

NEPOMUCENO
Norma M. Nepomuceno, 57, of Midlothian, a management analyst for the State of Virginia, died August 14, 2001. She is survived by Hidolfo M. Nepomuceno, her husband of 35 years; son, Eric M. Nepomuceno of Midlothian; mother, Patria Buenaventura; two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Nepomuceno was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. Interment private.

PURVIS
Helen Patricia Rockhill Purvis. 71. of Richmond, Va., passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2001 after a brief illness. She is survived by her loving children, Kathryn, Helen and Thomas; her sister, Mary Lou Lodor and her husband, Sam of Greensboro, N.C.; and many devoted friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2 p.m. at Unity Christ Church of Bon Air, 923 Buford Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Hospice Foundation.

SAGER
Helen Louise Bowers Sager, age 80, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg. Surviving are her children, Nancy S. Bryant, Florence S. Dean, Guy A. Sager, Clark D. Sager, Doris S. Dean, William (Billy) D. Sager, all of Strasburg, Freddie H. Sager, Woodstock, Barbara S. Conner, Toms Brook, Brenda S. Hockman, Edinburg, Peggy S. Dunn, Tappahannock; and daughter-in-law, Lois Sager, Lebanon Church; 29 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund, 156 W. Washington St., Strasburg, Va. or Strasburg Vol. Rescue Squad, Post Office Drawer 621, Strasburg, Va. 22657.

SMITH
Margaret Sam Smith died peacefully in her sleep August 16, 2001. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, March 12, 1921, Mrs. Smith resided in Richmond for the past 42 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles S. Smith. Survivors include her daughters, Elaine Stephens and her husband, George of Virginia Beach and Melinda Maosha and her husband, Jay of Richmond; two granddaughters, Weston Cable and her husband, Denny of Richmond and Stuart Maosha of Raleigh, N.C. Mrs. Smith will be inurned with her husband at the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. A memorial service will be held there at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Joseph W. Bliley, Staples Mill Road, is handling arrangements.

TOMLINSON
Jenny S. Tomlinson, 67, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, August 16, 2001 in the Southside Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Blackstone, daughter of the late Luther F. and Margaret Carter Smith, and for many years attended the Blackstone Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Franklin K. Tomlinson; four daughters, Margaret T. Matthews of Stafford, Va., Debbie Tomlinson of Hollywood, Fla., Brenda T. Harris of Colonial Heights, Carolyn T. Rakes of Crewe, Va.; a sister, Lydia Donaldson of Fair Oaks, California; a brother, J.D. Smith of Ohio; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, August 20, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Kenbridge Cemetery, Kenbridge, Va., with the Rev. Gloria Leggett officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va.

WEATHERFORD
Mr. Willie M. Weatherford, 75, of Emporia, died Friday, August 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Weatherford; two sons, Thomas M. Weatherford and wife, Mary of Big Island, Va., John P. Weatherford and wife, Michelle of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; two daughters, Janet W. Evans of Crewe, Va., Gloria W. Trevathian of Nesmeth, Ga.; one granddaughter, Nina Weatherford of Big Island, Va.; one brother, Thomas Weatherford; and one sister, Anne W. Denton, both of Richmond. The family will receive friends Saturday (tonight), 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt. The funeral service will be held graveside 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Gardens of Emporia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Support Group of Southside Virginia, 412 Ingleside Ave., Emporia, Va. 23847 or Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad.

WILLIS
Edward Jones Willis, age 68, of Saluda, a Richmond native, departed this life on Thursday, August 16, 2001. He was born on April 19, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His wife, Robin O. Willis survives him. Two sons, Edward Jones Willis III and Christopher Thomas Willis of Chesterfield also survive him. His other survivors include two grandsons, Cabell Francis Willis and Cameron Thomas Willis; two brothers, John Currie Willis of Deltaville and Clark Pembroke Willis of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Janet Fauntleroy Willis of Purcellville and Elizabeth Willis Denison of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Willis attended St. Christopher's School and graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy. He attended the University of Virginia and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He received his wings as an aircraft carrier pilot at Pensacola, Florida. He was appointed First Lt. in the United States Marine Corps first of June 1956 and trained as a helicopter pilot at Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point MC Air Station. He founded Virginia Timber Seeding Company, Inc. He was a real estate developer of Settler's Landing and Pembroke Farms subdivisions. Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Three Chopt Road and Grove Avenue at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21 followed by interment in Hollywood Cemetery at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Edward F. Willis Fire Station No. 1, Manakin, Virginia. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.

WITMER
Olive D. Witmer, age 88, of Deltaville, died Thursday, August 16, 2001. She was a member of Philippi Christian Church. Survived by her husband, John H. Witmer; one son, Jeff Witmer of Wake; two sisters, Alma Gill of Mohnton, Pa., Candy Leary of Narvon, Pa.; three grandchildren, Jason Witmer of Wake, Jeremy Witmer of Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., Tiffany Witmer Nichols of Richmond. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday (today) in Philippi Christian Church, Deltaville. Interment private. Memorial gifts may be made to the Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Jane Carroll Redd Dunford, a foreign-language instructor at Richmond-area colleges for more than 20 years, died Tuesday after a long illness. She was 73.
Mrs. Dunford began her teaching career in the early 1960s and led classes at John Tyler Community College, the University of Richmond and Randolph-Macon College. Her primary languages were Spanish and German, though she occasionally taught French.
A graduate of St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, she earned a bachelor's degree from Mount Holyoke College and held a master's degree in Spanish from the University of Richmond. In 1990, she completed a master's degree in German from the University of Virginia and pursued doctoral studies there as well.
In addition to her work in the college classroom, Mrs. Dunford spent a few years working in finance for the Metro Richmond Chamber of Commerce. She put her language skills to use there, working as a tour guide for foreign visitors.
A former choir member at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she had also sung in the Richmond Symphony Choir and in CAFUR, the Chorus of Alumni and Friends of the University of Richmond. Mrs. Dunford was a former board member of the Virginia Opera.
Survivors include her husband, J. Earle Dunford Jr., retired city editor of The Times-Dispatch; two daughters, Garnett Dunford Hamerman, of Richmond, and Catherine M. Dunford, of San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. Giles C. Engledove Jr., of Richmond, and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

ALEXANDER
Barbara Shumaker Alexander passed away quietly Thursday morning, November 8, 2001. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Richard T. Alexander Sr.; son, John L. Alexander and his wife, Denise; stepson, Richard T. Alexander Jr. and his wife, Tammy; four grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Alexander, Elizabeth and Franklin West; sister, Patsy Brooks and brother-in-law, Edward Brooks; niece, Lorrie Brooks; nephew, Kelly Brooks and his wife, Angie; two great-nieces, Jennifer and Christie; two great-nephews, Scotty and Adam; one aunt, Sophie Milam. The family will receive friends 12 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

BATCHELOR
Burney W. Batchelor, 45, of Richmond and a native of Hampton, Va., departed this life Monday, November 5, 2001. Mr. Batchelor was an employee at L. Douglas Wilder Middle School and track coach at the University of Virginia. He is preceded in death by his son, B.J.; and is survived by his son, Nicholas B. Batchelor and mother, Kathy Bachelor; his parents, Linwood and Mamie Batchelor; one brother, Lin Batchelor and sister-in-law, Carla; one niece and nephew, Janee' and Chaz Batchelor; a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, November 11, at Garland Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Garland Ave., Rev. Clifford E. Chambliss Jr., pastor, officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Monday, Maury Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Howard F. Bonura Sr., age 66, of Deltaville, owner of Bonura Burner Service Company, died Friday, November 9, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jerry P. Bonura; one daughter, Wanda Faye Garrett and her husband, Reed of Mechanicsville; three sons, Howard F. Bonura Jr., Raleigh, N.C., Timothy H. Bonura, Richmond, James F. Bonura and his wife, Dawn, Chesterfield; two sisters, Evelyn Mang, California, Barbara Brown, Hanover; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Interment Philippi Memorial Gardens, Deltaville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday (tonight) at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 98, Deltaville, Va. 23043.

BOWMAN
Departed this life November 9, 2001, Mrs. Elizabeth R. Bowman of 2822 Nine Mile Rd. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St. Funeral notice later.
