JOHNSON
Departed this life March 2, 2001, Mr. Willie T. "Bill" Johnson of Richmond. He is survived by one son, Calvin Pace; three daughters, Joyce Smith, Tonya Hainesworth and Debra Johnson; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, a host of nieces and nephews, one aunt, one daughter-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Saturday, 3:30 p.m. Rev. Roland Chopfield officiating. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

KEFFER
Edna Hedge Keffer, age 89, a resident of Imperial Plaza Retirement Community, Richmond, Va., widow of Perry L. Keffer, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2001. She is survived by four sons, Tony W. Keffer and his wife, Sandra of Moneta, Va., Charles H. Keffer and his wife, Sondra of Richmond, Va., Johnny W. Keffer and his wife, Beatrice of Charlottesville, Va., and Earl L. Keffer of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Patricia K. Phelps and her husband, Henry of Mechanicsville, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy H. Kirby and her husband, John of Dublin, Va., and Stella H. Wagoner of Fairlawn, Va.; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Keffer was born in Radford, Va., one of nine children born of the Rev. Jessie Wade and Fairy Belle Hedge. She grew up on a farm in Wythe County and when she married, she and her husband, Perry, settled in Blacksburg, Va., to start a family. They made their home there for 26 years before moving to Richmond in 1960. She later went to work for the Miller & Rhoads department store in downtown Richmond and spent the next 10 years there. She loved meeting new people and really enjoyed her work there and the friendships that ensued over the years. She retired in 1970 and she and her beloved Perry spent the next 14 years working in the church, traveling, and enjoying the fruits of their many years of labor. Mr. Keffer passed on in 1984 after their 51 years of marriage, but she continued with her work in the church. Her membership at the Ray of Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church in Richmond spanned 40 years, during which time she had served the Lord as a Women's Auxiliary officer, Sunday school and Bible school teacher, along with other responsibilities. She and Mr. Keffer, until his passing, were active in supporting the church's sponsored orphanage in Falcon, N.C., with annual food, money and clothing drives for the young residents of the home, and usually made the annual trek, along with others, to Falcon each Thanksgiving to deliver the donated gifts. She and Mr. Keffer, who was honored by the church as a deacon emeritus, were asked from time to time to represent the church as delegates to the denomination's annual convention. Remains rest at Woody's Parham Chapel, 1771 Parham Road, Richmond. The family will receive visitors Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Services will be held at Woody's on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., with burial at Westhampton Memorial Park. The family would like to acknowledge with appreciation the loving and tender care provided Mrs. Keffer by Hospice of Central Virginia during her stay at HealthSouth Medical Center.

KENNEY
Departed this life March 7, 2001, Robert E. Kenney of 7304 Bowler St. He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Florence V. Kenney; two daughters, Myra K. Brown and Marlene Y. Gooding; three grandchildren, Marlon and Duane Brown and Jordan Gooding; one sister, Barbara Bolling; two brothers, Raymond L. and Tyrone Kenney; two aunts, Lavinia Bassett and Lucille Coles; one uncle, Willis Anderson; host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two sons-in-law, Dennis Brown and F. Lamont Gooding; four sisters-in-law, Edmonia Smith and Mary L. Houchens, Yvonne and Ethel Kenney; two brothers-in-law, Alfred and Wyatt Jones; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Saturday, 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church, 7204 Bethlehem Rd., where remains will ie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Angelo V. Chatmon, Pastor, officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

McNEILL
Departed this life March 6, 2001, Mr. Simon James McNeill Jr. of Richmond, formerly of the Fulton area. He is survived by one son, Samuel Joseph McNeil; two daughters, Ida Williams and Katherine E. McNeil; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sudie Crawford of Baltimore, Md.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, one son-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 1 p.m. at Community Church of God in Christ, 1801 Park Ave., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Dr. David Wright officiating. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

MILLER
Irir Miller Sr. of 5034 Walmsley Blvd. departed this life Thursday, March 8, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

MORRIS
William Morris, 91, of Ashland, Va., ( Brown Grove Community), departed this life March 6, 2001. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters, Sophie Lewis and Susie Walker, devoted; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. MUMFORD
Hazel Allan "Madeline" Mumford, 93, of Chester, died Monday, March 5, 2001. She was a native of Wisconsin and had lived in Omaha, Neb., for a time before moving to Washington, D.C., where she worked for a time at the Atomic Energy Commission and for the Republican Party. She was the widow of Samuel H. Mumford. She moved to Chester in 1988 and was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church. She was a retired self-employed antique dealer. She is survived by a first cousin, Margaret Puckett of Colorado. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Episcopal Church. The Chester chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to St. Johns Capital Building Fund.

PHILLIPS
Departed this life March 3, 2001, Mrs. Carolyn Franklin Phillips of 1608 Leeland Ct. She is survived by her husband, Larry L. Phillips; one son, Matthew Phillips; one daughter, Mariah Franklin; mother, Sylvia Franklin; three brothers, Rodney, Mike and Raymond Franklin; two sisters, Patrice and Debra Franklin; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, grandparents, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. Dr. Alice B. Bolden officiating. Bishop B.A. Franklin, eulogist. RAWLES
James White Rawles, 93, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 8, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Georgina M. Rawles; five children, Marika A. Rawles, James W. Rawles Jr., Elizabeth R. Cronly, Georgina R. Miller and Benjamin W. Rawles III; 13 grandchildren; and his sister, Adelaide R. Flippen. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, March 12, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Entombment Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the APVA, the Valentine Museum or the Richmond Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

SMITH
Thomas L. (Tommie) Smith of Goochland, Va., entered into eternal rest March 4, 2001 at the Meadows Nursing Center. He is survived by two devoted sisters, Ellen Ware and Lucy Tyler of Goochland; three brothers, Noel of San Diego, Calif., James of Goochland, and Stanley of Worcester, Mass.; two brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law; two devoted nephews, Floyd Smith and Mitchell Ware; one devoted niece, Eunicetine Miller; a devoted friend, India Saunders of New York; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 1 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church, Goochland, and where remains will lie in state 11 a.m. until hour of funeral service. Rev. Thomas Barclay officiating. Interment Smith Family Cemetery.

SOUTHALL
Mr. Russell Southall Jr., a former postal employee, departed this life March 6, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Annette Wilson and Camille Southall; son, Mark Southall; grandson, Brent Wilson; sister, Edna S. Harris; brother, Wesley Southall Sr.; son-in-law, Robert Wilson; daughter-in-law, Ruth Southall; nieces, nephews, cousins, god-granddaughters, Selena Banks and Cenceray Coles; and friends, among them devoted, Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Ellis. His remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home. After 10 a.m. Saturday, his remains will rest at Second Baptist Church (West End), where his family will receive friends at 12 noon and funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Rev. Dr. James H. Harris, officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery.

WEST
Milton Louis West Jr., departed this life March 7, 2001. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Clara West; six children, Mark Orth, Melody Stark, Mike West, Teri Sadler, Deborah Lovering and Kevin West; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald West and Lawrence West. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

WHITED
Rosamond Fletcher Whited, age 88, of Richmond, Va., and formerly of Lebanon, Va., departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2001. Preceded in death by her husband, Guy Finney Whited, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Whited and David Oakes; and two grandchildren, Rob and William Oakes of Richmond, Va.; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., and of Emory and Henry College of Emory, Va. During World War II, she served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She taught elementary school in Russell County and was a lifelong member of the Lebanon Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, circle member and volunteer. She was also a member of the Russell County Medical Center Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. After her relocation to Richmond in 1992, she attended the Ridge Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willhoite Bible Class. She also volunteered for the Henrico County Schools. The family will receive friends Friday, March 9, 2001, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at the Lebanon Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at the Russell County Memorial Cemetery where nephews will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Ridge Baptist Church, 1515 E. Ridge Road, Richmond, Va., or the Lebanon Baptist Church, P.O. Box 55, Lebanon, Va. 24266. Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is serving the Whited family.

ABERNATHY
Richard Fittz Abernathy, 86, of Lake Land'Or, died on November 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Neta Tarkington Abernathy; and his children, Richard T. Abernathy of Richmond, Ronald F. Abernathy of Alexander, Cheryl K. Abernathy of Richmond, and Douglas T. Abernathy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; also surviving are three grandchildren, Dr. Marc Jeffrey Abernathy of Jacksonville, Ill., Mrs. Stephanie A. Allison of San Diego, Calif., and Ms. Laura Wade Abernathy of Bothell, Wash.; and two great-grandchildren, Jenny and Danny Allison of San Diego. He was co-founder of the L.S. Abernathy Construction Co. and a member of the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge #131. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., and where funeral service will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 18580 Partlow Rd., Beaverdam, Va. 23015.

ANNELLI
Mildred Michalec Annelli, 66, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord November 9, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Herman Richard Annelli; her children, Linda Annelli, Sandra Annelli Lane, Rick Annelli and Judi Annelli Jurey and her husband, Robby; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Terry and Catherine Annelli; a sister, Anna Humphries; two brothers, Steve and Milton Michalec; one grandson, Joshua Jurey; and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.
