CRONIN
Raymond Patrick Cronin, 93, of Midlothian, passed away October 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alta Billings Cronin; his children, Mary Jane Bolamperti of Omaha, Neb., Pat Newman of Indianapolis, Ind., Janet Frieden of Charlottesville, Va., Donna Girling of Midlothian, Va. and Kenneth Cronin of Roanoke, Va.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His surviving brothers are Mr. Charles Cronin of Dallas, Texas and Mr. Leo Cronin of Melrose, Iowa. Mr. Cronin was a teacher and Superintendent of Schools in Iowa before joining Fairmont Foods in 1943. Mr. Cronin was transferred to Charlottesville, Va. in 1961 and served as the manager and controller for Morton Frozen Foods in Crozet, Va. until his retirement in 1972. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. and received his Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Iowa. Mr. Cronin was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, was very active in the AARP and was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 26 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 10 a.m. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens on Patterson Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Edward's Catholic Church building fund or your favorite charity. Woody Funeral Home's Huguenot Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

DRAPER
Dorothy Taylor Draper, age 89, of Richmond, departed this life Thursday, October 18, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansel H. Draper. She is survived by one son, Louis H. Draper of Lawrenceville, N.J.; one daughter, Nell D. Winston of Richmond; devoted cousins, Yvonne Hill, Marjorie Berry, and Barbara J. Frazier of Washington, D.C.; one faithful sister-in-law, Dorothy White of Richmond; and a host of other relatives and friends. Among her church activities included were choir, missionary, and Sunday school participation. She was also very involved in civic and community activities, such as the Armstrong High School Class of '29 Reunions and 20 plus years as Secretary of IOLA Tent #74. She worked diligently in the Richmond Chapter of AARP and was a member of the East End Chapter #79 Order of Eastern Star. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Thursday, 12 noon at Newbridge Baptist Church, 5807 Nine Mile Rd., where the family will receive friends until hour of funeral services, 1 p.m., Rev. William A. Jenkins officiating. Burial Forest Lawn Cemetery.

FLYNN
John J. Flynn, 82, of Glen Allen, departed this life October 23, 2001. He was a retired Henrico County Magistrate, a former Virginia State Police dispatcher for over 20 years, and a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army Air Corps. He was preceded in death by Marie Robertson Flynn, his devoted wife of 51 years and mother of this two children. Always a loving and gentle father, he is survived by his two daughters, Dianne Marie Flynn and Donna Lenore Flynn Terry; his son-in-law, Johnnie Lee Terry; his beloved grandson, Joseph Flynn Terry; and his sister, Lenore Dedon and brother-in-law, Charles Dedon of Brewster, Mass. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, October 25 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. at 7 p.m. Interment will be private.

FRANCK
Walter "Wally" William Franck, 84, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., died October 17, 2001 at his home following a lengthy illness. A native of Chicago, Ill., he lived many years in Hopewell, Va. before retiring and moving to Florida. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII and served in the European theatre and during the Korean War. He retired after 21 years after achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Survivors include his wife, Ann C. Franck of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Hayward of Denver, Colo., two daughters, Carol F. May of Quinton, Va. and Susan F. (Larry) Bonnevier of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; two stepchildren, Joseph Rawley of Richmond and Evelyn Crews of High Point, N.C.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Florida. Burial Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

FRANKLIN
Louise Tinnell Franklin, 72, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2001. Survivors include her five children, Kenneth S. Franklin Sr., Patrick L. Franklin Sr., Jonathan L. Franklin, Laura F. Emerson and Robert C. Franklin; one brother, Harry L. Tinnell; one sister, Dene T. Sharbono; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close, dear friends. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today) and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment Maury Cemetery.

GADDY
Deacon Charlie A. Gaddy of Henrico entered eternal rest October 21, 2001. Cherishing his memory are his seven children, Anthony, Melvin, Dwight, Michael, James, and Floyd Gaddy and Charlene Gaddy-Wallace; 16 grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 6 to 7 p.m. in the All Faiths Chapel of the A.D. Price Funeral Establishment, 212 E. Leigh St. A Eulogistic service will be conducted Thursday, 1 p.m. at the Metropolitan African American Baptist Church, 5626 Warwick Rd., Dr. Roscoe Cooper, pastor, Dr. David Winters officiating. GOODMAN
Thelma Harris Goodman, 65, of Amelia, Va., entered eternal rest Saturday, October 20, 2001. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Melvin Goodman Sr. She is survived by her son, Frank M. Goodman Jr. and his wife, Sandra Birdsong Goodman; her daughter, Myra Goodman Smith and her husband, Lawrence Smith Jr.; three grandchildren, Shauntepia and Ketri Goodman and Lauren Smith, all of Chesterfield. She is also survived by four sisters, Lillian Hicks, Gertrude Wise, Annie Tyler and Juanita Jones; three brothers, Charlie, Aubrey and Douglas Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Rt. 360, Amelia, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 2p.m. at Flower Hill Baptist Church, Amelia, Va. Interment in the church cemetery.

HATCHER
Samuel David Hatcher, 90, of Richmond, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Wilburn Hatcher. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Novella Davis Hatcher; three sons and their wives, David and Jane Hatcher of Nokesville, Va., Will and Jane Hatcher of Newport News, Va. and Glenn and Christi Hatcher of Richmond; two stepdaughters, Barbara England and her husband, Charles of Mechanicsville and Mary Kay Jones of Ashland; one sister, Margaret Willis of Powhatan; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hatcher began his career with the Richmond Transit System in August 1937 when he obtained employment as a street car operator with the Virginia Electric and Power Company. Over the next 13 years he advanced to several supervisory positions within the company. On December 20, 1950 Mr. Hatcher was appointed Superintendent of Transportation. He remained in that position for 25 years. Management changed three times during his 38 years of employment. He retired in 1975 as Director of Transportation with the Greater Richmond Transit Company. After retiring from GRTC he continued to work with transit companies on a consultant or interim management basis with ATE Management and Service Company. He traveled throughout the United States in this capacity for five years. While he was still employed by ATE Management Company, he and his wife, Novella, moved to Powhatan County, Va. There he became involved in many community projects. He restored a one-room log schoolhouse located on the grounds of Muddy Creek Baptist Church. He was instrumental with others in planning and building a medical center in Cartersville, Va. Mr. Hatcher served as Heart Fund Chairman for Powhatan Co. in 1981, was a member of Powhatan Co. Historical Society, and served as president two times of the AARP Chapter in Cartersville. Due to his failing health he and his wife moved back to Richmond in 1993. He was a 54-year member of Metropolitan Lodge No. 11 AF&AM, a member of Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies 32nd Degree KCCH, ACCA Temple Shrine and Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 25. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Log Schoolhouse Maintenance Fund, c/o Muddy Creek Baptist Church, 3470 Trenholm Rd., Powhatan, Va. 23139, or Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, Va. 23221.

HICKS
John R. "Donnie" Hicks, 56, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 22, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dale Y. Hicks; daughter and son-in-law, Kellee H. and Joseph J. Lapallo; daughter, Jill R. Hicks; brothers, T. Gregory and Bryan K. Hicks; granddaughters, Alexandra Ruth and Raychel Lynn Lapallo. Mr. Hicks was a U.S. Army Veteran and was an Assistant General Manager with Costco. His family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be private. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Henrico Christmas Mother Program, P.O. Box 27, Sandston, Va. 23150.

HILL
Departed this life October 23, 2001, Mr. Charles "Bubba" L. Hill Jr., formerly of 1003 Edgehill Rd. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving his family.

HOLLAND
John Moore "Jack" Holland, born September 9, 1936, died October 22, 2001. He was the beloved husband of Judith Smoot Holland. A native of Virginia's Eastern Shore, he was the son of Clarence and Elisabeth Holland of Eastville, Va. He graduated from Northampton High School in Eastville, and attended the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. and Salisbury State Teachers College, Salisbury, Md. Mr. Holland enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a medic attached to the U.S. Marine Corps. After his tour of duty, he went to work for Miller and Rhoads department store in Richmond where he was employed for 22 years. First hired as a stockman, he rose to become china and glass buyer for all Miller and Rhoads stores. Mr. Holland was most recently employed by Hecht's Department Stores in men's clothing sales. He had retired from that position at the end of September. Mr. Holland was a former member and past president of the Richmond Eastern Shore Club. He is survived by his wife, Judith Holland; his brother, Clarence Whitaker Holland III; his son, John Moore Holland Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Holland Shawver and Mary Sandys Holland; daughter and son-in-law, Chastity Graham Holland and Timothy Shawver; five grandchildren, Joshua Giannini, Lindsey Shawver, Jennifer Shawver, Bailey Holland and Lukas Holland; and a host of cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2001. Burial service will follow at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Eastville, Va. The family will receive friends at Woody's Huguenot Chapel on Thursday evening, October 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

HOLLOWELL
Lena B. Hollowell, 90, died Monday. She was the wife of Richard A. Hollowell Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Rosa Haithcock; two sons, Randy Hollowell, Richard Hollowell and his wife, Barbara of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, October 25 in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, N.C. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home. The Evans Funeral Home of Edenton is serving the Hollowell family.

JONES
Mrs. Alice L. Cooke Jones, 56, of Elizabethton, Tenn., died Monday, October 22, 2001. A native of Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd F. and Ruth Mae Herr Cooke. Funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2001 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home in Elizabethton, Tenn. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Helen Wilson, 206 S. Riverside Dr., Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643.

KING
Shamar O. King, age 16, of Richmond, departed this life October 19, 2001 at MCV Hospital. He is survived by his parents, Clifford and Fredricka King; one sister, Carisha Watson; two nieces; grandparents, Haywood and Virginia Watson and Everett and Juan Morris, all of Montpelier; six aunts; four uncles; other relatives and many friends. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry St., Ashland. Funeral services Thursday 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Beaverdam. Dr. John W. Kinney, Pastor, officiating. Interment church cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral service. The Dabneys, Morticians, in charge of arrangements.

KINNEY
Jean Walsh Kinney, age 80, of Portsmouth, Va., died on Monday, October 22, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Kinney Jr. During World War II she served as a WAVE with the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Kinney was a member of the Tidewater Silver Salts, the American Legion and The Womens Auxiliary of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. She also served as a volunteer with the American Heart Association. She is survived by four daughters, Louann K. Yates of Norfolk, Janet E. King of Westland, Mich., Grace Shupe of Richmond and Patricia K. Varnell of Portsmouth; two sons, Harry C. Kinney III of Pensacola, Fla. and Thomas W. Kinney of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Lou Grimes of Greenwich, Conn. A wake service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m. where the family will remain to receive friends until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Father Wane Ball presiding. Burial Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

LIPPARD
Claude Jason Lippard died October 22, 2001 in a Va. Beach hospital. A native of Statesville, N.C. and a former deacon of First Lutheran Church in Portsmouth for many years, he had recently celebrated his 98th birthday at Brighton Gardens, where he resided. Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Pauline, three brothers and five sisters, he is survived by two brothers, Joseph Lippard and Harold Lippard of Cleveland, Tenn.; three daughters, Claudette Fussell of Richmond, Va., Patricia DeHart and Paula Justice of Va. Beach; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a large and loving extended family of several generations. Claude was a graduate of North Carolina State in Agriculture and was employed by the Naval Air Station and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 30 years. There will be a funeral service conducted at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home Great Neck Chapel on Thursday, October 26 at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 6 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Va. Beach Friends School or the Va. Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.
