Floyd Lee Doss, age 91, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001. Survived by two sons, Phillip L. Doss of Fuquay Varina, N.C. and Michael B. Doss of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren and one great-grandson; six sisters, Virginia Swain, Cora Wooldridge, Virgie Cassell, Viola Kelly, Pauline Glass and Cleve Travis. Remains rest at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Shady Grove and 301, Mechanicsville, where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

DRUMMOND
Frank Osborne Drummond Jr., 79, Lakemont Ave., Winter Park, Fla., died Sunday, August 12, 2001 of Parkinson Disease. Born in Richmond, Va., he moved to Central Florida in 1958 from Baltimore, Md. Mr. Drummond was a Sales Manager for Martin Marietta and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Maitland, Fla. He was a U.S. Air Corps veteran and also treasurer, elder, trustee and chairman of the First Presbyterian Church of Maitland Building Committee and a member of the City of Maitland Historic Committee. Survivors are his wife, Sarah of Winter Park; daughter, Sarah Drummond-Brunnig of Deland, Fla.; son, Frank Osborne Drummond III of Maitland, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, 11 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. GARDNER
Thomas Andrew Gardner of Richmond died Sunday, August 12, 2001. He is survived by two sisters, Gloria Compton and Catherine Capps; one aunt, Viola Herndon; one uncle, Herbert James; three nieces and one nephew. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will recieve friends 9 to 11 a.m. Friday (today). Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

GARDNER-BARTLAY
Littel Angel Keshondra Monque Garnder-Bartlay went to be with the angels August 10, 2001. She is survived by her parents, Karen Gardner and Kenneth Bartlay; four brothers, Keyvon, Gilbert, Robert, Niko; one sister, Sisela; grandmother, Barbara Gardner; a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives. HAMLIN
Florence Jett Hamlin, passed away August 14, 2001 at home. She is survived by her daughter, Peyton Martell; son, Richard Hamlin Jr.; and her husband, Richard Hamlin; her grandchildren, Laura Jett Hamlin and Richard Hamlin III. She was an active member in the Friends of the Library, Reedville Fisherman's Museum, the Woman's Club of Norththumberland County and the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club. Memorial services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., Bethany United Methodist Church, Reedville, Va. with a reception to follow at the church.

HARRELL
Hiliary Liacole Harrell, age 5, of Lawrenceville, Va., went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2001. She is survived by her mother, Denise Walton; and father, Lonnie Walton; a brother, Scottie Champion; and a sister, Tammy Champion, all of Lawrenceville; her grandparents, Dale and Daisy Temple of Lawrenceville, and Tina Johnson of Freeman; aunts and uncles, Gail and John Rhodes of Lawrenceville, Edwin and Gail Temple of Arda, and Michael Walton; and a host of cousins and relatives. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Edgerton United Methodist Church, Freeman, Va., with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville.

HARRIS
Briscoe Arthur Harris Sr., 72, of 102 E. 33rd Street, departed this life August 14, 2001 at McGuire V.A. Medical Center. Briscoe was fortunate to have the love and care of Susie Brown and family during his childhood years. Mr. Harris was affectionately known as "Pops." He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Constance C. Harris of Staunton; two daughters, Deborah H. Gresham and Benita H. Moody; three sons, Briscoe A. Harris Jr., Marty and Wayne Briscoe Moates; six grandchildren, three devoted, Rachelle M. Gresham, Shaka K. and Ashanti N. Moody; a great-granddaughter, Mya N. Gresham; two sons-in-law, Randall B. Gresham and Theodore R. Moody; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St., where the family will receive friends Friday, 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., Dr. L. B. Samuel officiating. Interment Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens, Staunton, Va. Family and friends attending services assemble at the funeral home Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

HORNBERGER
Diane Beasley Hornberger, age 47, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, August 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Y. Wade. Survived by her spouse, Richard A. Hornberger; two children, Ruth V. Brown and Richard A. Hornberger Jr.; her parents, Daisy M. Carson and James M. Beasley; two brothers, James M. Beasley Jr. and John R. Carson; two grandchildren, Mathew A. and Ashley N. Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews; and two devoted great-aunts, who were special to her throughout her life, Celenia S. Price and Lillie M. Shelton. She was employed by the IRS. She was a friend to everyone who knew her and was loved by all. Family will receive friends 2 to 5 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 17 at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Shady Grove Rd. and Rt. 301, and where services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. with interment in Dale Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charlie Johnson departed this life on August 15, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn H. Johnson; daughters, Charlene R. Johnson, Felicia C. Carter; sons, Kenneth E. and Kiel L. Carter; several grandchildren. Remains rest at Estep Brothers Funeral Services, Baltimore, Md.

JOHNSON
Departed this life August 13, 2001, Mrs. Doris T. Johnson of 812 N. 33rd St. She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Johnson. She is survived by her devoted husband, Deacon Robert L. Johnson; four sons, Anthony (Selma), Wayne (Evelyn), Danard (Lisa) Johnson, all of Richmond, and Carlton (Mihoko) Johnson of South Korea; and (Tasha) Johnson of Richmond; 13 grandchildren, three nephews, four aunts, one uncle, one sister-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Friday, 12 noon at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 22nd and "X" Streets, where a Litany Service will be held at 7 p.m. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 12 noon at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2401 E. Broad St., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Rev. Bruce Gray, pastor, Father Simeon E. Newbold Sr. officiating. Burial Forest Lawn Cemetery. Many thanks to Bon Secours Hospice Service.

JOHNSON
Nell Maxim Johnson, 69, of Sandston, Va., died peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, August 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Maxim and a granddaughter, Natalie Ann Maxim. She is survived by her second husband, Edward C. Johnson; one daughter, Deborah L. Martin and her husband, Linwood; three sons, Leonard Maxim Jr. and his wife, Jocelyn, Donald C. Maxim and his wife, Fran and David L. Maxim and his wife, Tina, all from the Richmond area; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one brother, Joseph Felts of Sandston; two sisters, Lucille Parham of Chicago, Ill. and Alma Roberson of Butner, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Nell was a retired senior production specialist from AT&T. She was a lifelong active member of Corinth United Methodist Church, an active member of the Naomi Chapter No. 4 of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron in 1985-1986 and 1998-1999 as well as Grand Representative to New Hampshire from 1999-2001, and the Amercan Legion Auxillary Post 242 in Sandston serving as president in 1975. She was well known among her peers for her active role and participation within the community. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will recieve friends anytime Friday, August 17. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held Friday at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church. Interment in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chapman Scholarship Fund at Corinth United Methodsit Church, 23 W. Williamsburg Rd., Sandston, Va. 23150.

JONES
Louise Bolling Belcher Jones, 91, widow of Green Gay Jones, passed away Wednesday August 15, 2001 in Richmond. She was the daughter of Joseph Powell Belcher Sr. and Ida Lee Presson Belcher. While a student in the Agricultural High School in Chester she placed second in the Richmond News Leader spelling match in 1926 and first in 1927. Louise Belcher graduated from Chester Agricultural High School as salutatorian in 1928. She entered the Richmond Division of the College of William and Mary in the autumn of 1928 and graduated in 1932 with a Bachelor of Science in social work. She was employed by the Petersburg Social Service Bureau from 1933 to 1938 and by the Suffolk Social Service Bureau from 1939 to October 1941. During World War II she worked for the American Red Cross. During the later 1940s and early mid-1950s she worked as a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She received the March of Dimes's Carol Lane Award honorable mention for starting the Behind-the-Wheel Driver Training program for Chesterfield County. In October 1958 she became an intake officer with the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. She was founding member of the Chester Woman's Club, the Village Woman's Club, and the Chesterfield Historical Society. She served on the Cemetery Committee of the Chesterfield Historical Society and helped to survey and compile the lists of those buried in may of the county's cemeteries. She was a member of the Bermuda Hundred Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifelong member of Chester Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Emily Jones Salmon and son-in-law, John S. Salmon, and Louise G. Jones: one brother, Harvey T. Belcher of Disputanta, Va., and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Dr. Edward Stansfield, pastor of Chester Baptist Church, officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bensley Bermuda Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 657, Chester, Va., 23831.

KEANE
Lois Herz Keane, widow of Walter J. Keane, age 99, of Bon Air, died Friday, August 3, 2001. A memorial service for the late Mrs. Keane will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 18 at Saint Edward-Epiphany Church at 10701 West Huguenot Road.

KESBY
Helen Hurst Kesby, 91, of Littlestown. Pa., died August 4, 2001 at her home. Born January 24, 1910 in Northumberland County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Daisy Hall Hurst. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Kesby. She was a graduate of Kilmarnock High School and the College of William and Mary. She was past regent of Toaping Castle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Maryland, a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Retired Maryland State Teacher's Association. She retired from elementary teaching in Prince George County, Md. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela K. Glockengieser of Littlestown, Pa.; two grandchildren, Caren C. Gallion and James A. Carrello, both of North Beach, Md.; a great-granddaughter, Christine Brock of North Beach, Md,; a sister, Marjorie Hurst Butler of Kilmarnock; and a sister-in-law, Frances Downing Hurst of Burgess, Va. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll W. Hurst Jr. and two sisters, Charlotte H. Webb and Lucille H. Parrish. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2001 at Bluff Point United Methodist Church, Kilmarnock, Va.

McLAIN
Ernest W. McLain (Mac), age 87, of Mechanicsville, died August 16, 2001. Survived by his wife, Grace K. McLain; a daughter, Faye B. Coates and husband, Roy M. Coates; four grandchildren, C.B. Bell Jr., Greg Bell, Amy Kelley Walton and Troy M. Coates; four great-grandchildren, Shane Bell, Kody Smith, Kyleigh Bell and Emily Walton. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, Va., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and where services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment in St. Stephens Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Hanover Rescue Squad or to the National Alzheimers Association.

NEPOMUCENO
Norma M. Nepomuceno, 57, of Midlothian, a management analysist for the State of Virginia, died August 14, 2001. She is survived by Hidolfo M. Nepomuceno, her husband of 35 years; son, Eric M. Nepomuceno of Midlothian; mother, Patria Buenaventura; two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Nepomuceno was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. Interment private.

PAPENFUS
On August 15, 2001, Jason Matthew Papenfus, age 26, finally won his courageous battle with cancer. Jason leaves behind to love and honor his memory his wife and best friend, Tracey Clavier Papenfus; his mother, Linda Smith; his father, William Papenfus; his sister, Heather Lawrence; two nieces, Ryanne and his namesake Jaysen Nichole; two nephews, Hunter and Ethan. He is also survived by his second mom, Sherron Clavier; second dad, Dallas Clavier; and brother-in-law, Adam Clavier; as well as a host of aunts and uncles. Jason departed this life surrounded and comforted by the sure knowledge of the strong love and support of his family and many close and loyal freinds. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen, Va. (804-270-6321). The family requests that donations be made to the Thomas Palliative Care Unit, c/o Thomas Hospice, P.O. Box 2510, Midlothian, Va. 23113 or to the MCV Cancer Institute, c/o The Medical College of Virginia.
