Alma Swann Lacy, 73, of Richmond, passed away July 14, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence (Ducky) Lacy; and brother, James F. Swann Jr. She is survived by her children, Thomas J. Lacy Sr. and his wife, Betty, Brenda L. Fairlamb and her husband, Joe, and Bonnie L. Fletcher and her husband, Jerry; sister, Joanne S. Hughes; three grandchildren, Michelle F. Mason, Anthony Fairlamb and T.J. Lacy Jr.; and two great-granddaughters, Danielle Mason and Taylor Lacy. Mrs. Lacy was a member of Glen Allen Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Deaconess Madeline Hassell Morris of 1211 Rennie Avenue departed this life on Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Retreat Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ogden G. Morris. Cherishing her memories are a devoted daughter, Barbara M. Ford; a loving son, Herbert H. Morris (Benita); five grandchildren, Peter D. III and Paul O. Ford, Herbert II (Debbie), Aujeanne E. and Ogden H. Morris; two great-grandchildren, Peter D. Ford IV and Monique N. Morris; one sister, Rosalee H. Thomas; a niece, Sandra G. Jordan; three nephews, Heywood M. Thompson (Earlyne), Carey Gresham (Joyce) and Stewart Gresham; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary B. Morris and Mrs. Evangeline M. Hubbard; other relatives and friends, among them, Theresita N. Braxton, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Robinson and Eulalia F. Morris. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Boulevard. After 12 noon Wednesday, July 17, remains will rest in Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Hartman and Elkridge Lane, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. Dr. James Deotis Roberts officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

NEENAN
Maurice Francis Neenan Jr. "Frank," 77, of Richmond, passed away July 13, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie L. Neenan; and a sister, Dorothy A. Covert. He is survived by a brother, John J. Neenan and his wife, Helen; nephew, Maurice Francis Neenan III; and a niece, Sarah M. Neenan. He was a U.S. Navy Submariner veteran and was employed with Safeway and IRS. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Ida S. Parham, of 4224 Curtis St., Chester, Va., departed this life Thursday, July 11, 2002. She is survived by one son, Johnny Scott Sr.; three sisters, Edna Gamble, Aline Washington and Ellen Garner; three grandchildren, Moralos Taylor, Antonia Taylor and Johnny Scott Sr.; six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. from the Greater Faith AME Church, 1301 Youngs Rd., Petersburg, Va. Rev. Roland Linwood Ragland, 59, of Glen Allen, died Monday, July 15, 2002. He is survived by his son, Stephen W. Ragland; two sisters, Phyllis R. Hague and Charlotte R. Kreyenbuhl; and brother, Otho C. Ragland Jr. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oakwood Cemetery.

SHACKELFORD
Sharron H. Shackelford, 55, of Richmond, Va., died suddenly July 15, 2002. She was employed with VCU Health Systems Hospital in the department of Radiology for 25 years. In addition to her mother, Arlene Huff of Earlysville, Sharron is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Shackelford of Richmond; two children, Tammy Whitaker of Dunedin, Fla. and Mark Garrison of Charlottesville; two brothers, Cavil Huff of Earlysville and Lee Huff of Troy; and five stepchildren, all of Charlottesville. There will be a memorial service at Hill and Wood Funeral Home on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 7 p.m.

SHEPPERSON
Jerome Cornel Shepperson, 48, of Richmond, was called home on July 14, 2002. An employee (manager) of Philip Morris for the last 28 years, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Freeman Shepperson; two children, Angela Lateefah and Jehmal Yaphet, all of Richmond, Va.; mother, Florine S. Gatling of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. P.H. Shepperson of Meherrin, Va.; three uncles, Lester, Willie and Lornel Shepperson; mother-in-law, Mrs. Marie Freeman; two brothers-in-law, Donald and Sgt. Royal Freeman of Randolph, Va.; two brothers-in-law, preceded him in death, Deputy Sheriff Lonnie Freeman and Ronald Freeman; numerous cousins and friends. Remains rest at Carl U. Eggleston Funeral Establishment, 914 S. Main Street, Farmville, Va., (434) 392-7000. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Forrest Baptist Church, Hwy. 630, in Meherrin, Va. Frances Cronan Stanfield, who was born on June 14, 1933, died Sunday, July 14, 2002. She was loved and cherished by all whose lives she touched. STITZER
Robert Wade Stitzer Jr., 40, of Alexandria, formerly of Richmond and Bremo Bluff, died suddenly Saturday, July 13, 2002. Wade was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Stitzer Sr. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Williams Chewning; and devoted stepfather, S. Thomas Chewning Jr., Bremo Bluff; two sisters, Lacy Stitzer Barrett of Palmyra and Leigh Ann Chewning of Bremo Bluff; also two nephews, much loved and adored by Wade, Dustin Parrish, Palmyra, and Michael Chewning, Bremo Bluff, and other family and friends. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colbert Funeral Home, Bremo Bluff. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, Bremo Bluff. The Rev. Peter Way will officiate.

TAYLOR
William H. Taylor, 46, of Chesterfield, died July 15, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Constance E. and Arthur L. Taylor. Survivors include his wife, Kathy M. Taylor; one son, William H. Taylor Jr.; four sisters, Patricia Schutte, Linda Newcomb, Bonnie Serpick, and Brenda Easter; five brothers, Harvey Taylor, Mark Chamberlain, Walter Chamberlain, Robert Chamberlain, and David Chamberlain; his mother-in-law, Kitty Martin; two brothers-in-law, John Martin Jr. and Blinkco Martin; one sister-in-law, Sue Hudson; and loving nieces and nephews. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (today) and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Departed this life July 12, 2002, Ms. Hester Trent of Richmond. Survived by her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, among them the devoted Mrs. Mary Venney; other relatives and friends. WATT
Grace Cameron Watt of Richmond died Sunday, July 14, 2002. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 23, 1908, she was a daughter of the late James Watt and Grace Cameron Watt. Miss Watt was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Todd Bell Watt. At the time of her retirement in December 1974, she was President of Duplex Envelope Company. Prior to serving as President, Miss Watt was Secretary, Executive Vice President and a member of Board of Directors of Duplex. She was a past President of the Offering Envelope Association, the Altrusa Club and the Colony Club where she was also a member of the Board. Miss Watt was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18 in Hollywood Cemetery. There will be a reception after the service on the Roof Terrace of Westminster Canterbury, 1600 Westbrook Ave., where Miss Watt resided.

WILLIAMS
John Ellis Williams Jr., age 36, died Saturday, July 13, 2002. He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Williams. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Mulvihill Williams; one daughter, Victoria M. Williams; his mother, Polly (Esther) Williams; one brother, Sam M. Williams and his wife, Mary; two sisters, Sandra W. Wittenborn and her husband, John W. and Stephanie W. Marcus and her husband, Rick; one niece and five nephews. John was a loving father, son and brother who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002. He leaves to mourn his daughters, Alicia McCauley and Karen Johnson; his loving friend, Virginia McCauley; four brothers, Leroy, Cornelius, Charles and Thomas Brown; sister, Ms. Jeanette Canada; two sisters-in-law, Laurethia Brown and Thelma Brown; brother-in-law, Wallace Canada Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, other relatives and friends. CABELL
Robert Gamble Cabell Jr., 70, of Powhatan, died peacefully at his home Sunday, August 25, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Gamble and Jeanne Hunton Witt Cabell; and his sister, Mariana Cabell Singleton. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Tant Cabell; sons, Robert Gamble Cabell III and his wife, Cathy of Houston, Texas, Temple Witt Cabell and his wife, Susan; daughters, Carrington Dugger, Anne Buhman and her husband, Dennis, all of Richmond, Lynn Trude Roberts and her husband, Sky of Fairplay, Colorado, Virginia Pavelik and her husband, Robert of North Palm Beach, Florida, and Angie Cabell and her husband, Rich Wolkiewicz of Powhatan; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Cabell was a graduate of St. Christopher's School, where he earned many leadership as well as athletic awards. He attended the University of Virginia, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. He was Vice President of the Student Council, a member of the varsity football team and was captain of the tennis team. He was a member of TILKA, DKE, the 13 Society and the 7 Society. He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1957. He was a member of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond where he served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1986-1990, Chairman of the Committee on Area Bar Associations 1989-1990, Secretary Treasurer in 1990, Vice President in 1991, President in 1993 and was a member of the Executive Committee from 1990 until his death. As a member of the Virginia State Bar he was chairman of several committees and a member of Bar Council from 1979-1985 and again in 1995 until his death. He served on the Board of Governors and was Chairman of both the Criminal Law Section and the Jury Selection Committee. He was also a member of the Virginia Bar Association where he served on the Criminal Law Committee from 1974-1977. He was a substitute Judge in the 11th Judicial Circuit from 1986 until his death. He was a past president of the Richmond Criminal Bar Association, a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He was a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and listed in The Best Lawyers in America and a life member of Who's Who in American Law. He was a faculty member of the Virginia Professionalism Course sponsored by the Virginia Supreme Court as well as a frequent lecturer on criminal law for Virginia Continuing Legal Education as well as for the State and Local Bar Associations. Mr. Cabell was a member of the Country Club of Virginia and St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he served as a member of the Vestry, Lay Reader and Sunday school teacher. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 29 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Powhatan County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2245 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan, Va. 23139.

CAMETAS
Sophia Gus Cametas, formerly of Christiansburg, Va. and widow of Gus John Cametas, passed away August 27, 2002. She is survived by her son, John G. Cametas M.D.; and was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Jole Y. Cametas. She is also survived by three grandsons, Gus J. Cametas, Nikoloas B. Cametas and his wife, Stephanie A. Cametas, J. Stefan Cametas and his wife, Jody P. Cametas; and one granddaughter, Krista C. Jones and her husband, John E. Jones III; three great-grandchildren, J. Nikolas Cametas, Nicole M. Cametas and T. Mason Cametas. Sophia was born in 1916 in Kalambaka, Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1947. She was a member of the Philoptchos Society of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 28 at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Richmond. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, August 29 in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Philoptchos Society of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Huntington Blvd., N.E., Roanoke, Va. 24012. Arrangements by the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

CAREY
Shelley Anne Carey was at home surrounded by family when she was called to be with the Lord August 27, 2002. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1953, Shelley is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Benjamin Arthur Carey; and two loving daughters, Annie and Ellen. A graduate of UNC Nursing School, Shelley was an active member of Galilee Episcopal Church and a leader of Bible study fellowship. Shelley's life was guided by her unbounding love for our Saviour Jesus Christ and Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Survivors include her parents, Richard and Dee Dick; and maternal grandmother, Ann Gray from West End, N.C.; siblings, Michael Dick, Kim Anton, Mitchell Dick, Allison Lang; mother and brothers-in-law from Kinston, N.C., Mary Corcas Carey, James and Clifton Carey; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of beloved friends. In joyful remembrance of her life, a funeral service will be held Friday, August 30 at 10 a.m. at Galilee Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach. Interment to follow in Kinston, N.C. at the Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Bible Study Fellowship, International, or Galilee Episcopal Church.
