ALLEN
Betty Powers Allen, 54, of Richmond, died Saturday, October 21, 2000. She is survived by her husband, James A. "Butch" Allen; two daughters, Sandra Allen Payne and Christine Allen Agnello and husband, Bryan; her mother, Ann C. Powers; two sisters, Mary Ann Baker and husband, Glen, and Kathy Bucker and husband, Bunny; three brothers, Daniel Powers Jr. and wife, Ann, Billy Powers and wife, Pat, and Jimmy Powers and wife, Helen; two grandchildren, Ben and Amber Payne; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Frances Powers and Janice Alexander. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by two brothers, David W. Powers Sr. and Johnny F. Powers. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, where Mrs. Allen was an active member and deacon serving in the Chancel Choir and the Saints Alive Choir. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

BAIRD
James Wesley Baird, 82, died at his home on Monday, October 23, 2000. A lifelong resident of Surry County, he was born February 25, 1918 to the late Marion Sims Baird Sr. and Nannie Baugh Baird. His love for his community and church kept him active as a member of Surry United Methodist Church, Blackwater Sportsman’s Club, American Legion Post #160, a past member of Surry Ruritan Club, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and a past member of the Advisory Committee for Riverside Regional Convalescent Center of Newport News. He was a sheet metal foreman at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock, where he worked for 37 years before his retirement. He will also be remembered for his love for sports, especially baseball, having served as coach for the Claremont Little League in the 1960s. Mr. Baird is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marjorie Addison Baird; one daughter, June B. Edwards and her husband, J.W. (Jerry) Edwards Jr. of Midlothian; brothers, Marion S. Baird Jr. of Newport News and Horace H. Baird of Hopewell; and two grandsons, James Wesley Edwards III and Jeffrey William Edwards. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Florence Baird. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Surry United Methodist Church, Surry, with the Rev. Samuel Askew, the Rev. Ray Rowland and Jerry Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Surry. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home. Memorial donations may be made to Surry United Methodist Church, Surry, Va. 23883 or Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Rd., Ste. E, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834.

BEAN
Frances Marie Bean, 55, of Richmond, died October 23, 2000. She is survived by a brother, John I. Bean; and sister, Charlotte Phillips. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, with interment at 2:30 p.m. in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.

BLANKS
Mrs. Lynwood Chandler Blanks, 90, of Clarksville and Roanoke, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke. Mrs. Blanks was born December 9, 1909 in Mecklenburg County, Va., to Seymour Graham and Katherine Belle Yancey Chandler. She majored in music at Virginia Intermont College in 1930 and graduated from Johnston-Willis Hospital School of Nursing in 1934. She worked as a registered nurse at Johnston-Willis Hospital for 12 years and at the Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston for 30 years, where she retired at age 75 as a nurse supervisor. She was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church. Mrs. Blanks is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Blanks and Ronald Eugene Bew of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Catherine Chandler Bew of Arlington and Mary Marshall Bew of New York City; her sister, Mildred Chandler Williams of Midlothian; and six nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John Kemper Blanks; sisters, Dorothy Chandler Elam and Sarah Sue Chandler; and brothers, Elmo Graham, Robert Baker and George Gray Chandler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville. Burial will be in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.

BLANTON
Frank McFaden Blanton, M.D., 79, of Richmond, died Sunday, October 22, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Watkins Blanton; three sons, Michael W. Blanton, M.D., and his wife, Susan Halloran Blanton, Peter D. Blanton and John W. Blanton and his wife, Cynthia Radcliffe Blanton; one daughter, Katherine Blanton Towler and her husband, William A. Towler; six grandchildren, Geoffrey Blanton, James Blanton, Spencer Blanton, Hobs Towler, Natalie Towler and Sarah Towler; two brothers, Wyndham B. Blanton Jr., M.D., and Charles A. Blanton II; and one sister, Mary Blanton Easterly. Dr. Blanton was a graduate of St. Christopher’s School, Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia Medical School. He did graduate training at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., and at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He was a member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia, American Medical Association, Richmond Society of Internal Medicine, Virginia Society of Internal Medicine, American Society of Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Blanton practiced internal medicine privately in Richmond with Drs. Blanton, Powell, Martin, Wickham, Titus and Gill. He was a member of the Adjunct Faculty of the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Blanton served on the boards of Stuart Circle Hospital and Charter Medical Corporation. He was affiliated with Stuart Circle, Retreat, St. Mary’s and Richmond Memorial Hospitals. Dr. Blanton was a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps with service in the Philippines. He was an elder of Second Presbyterian Church and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, at Second Presbyterian Church. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Christopher’s School, the U.Va. Medical Alumni Association or Second Presbyterian Church.

BOGAR
Elizabeth Ann Bogar, 58, of Montpelier, Va., died Monday, October 23, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Willis Bogar; three daughters, Patricia Slaughter, Deborah Torres and Tammy Gooden; four brothers and one sister, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reid Funeral Home, Ashland, Va., where services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Berea Baptist Church Cemetery in Rockville, Va.

BUTLER
Virginia W. Lavender Butler of Richmond died October 23, 2000. She is survived by three stepchildren, Janet L. Santiago of Midlothian, Jackie Dickinson of Lanexa and S.C. Butler Jr. of Richmond; also two sisters, Thelma Finley and Lucille Cooper, both of Danville, Ky. Funeral services will be held in Danville, Ky.

CHRISTIAN
Departed this life October 21, 2000, Mr. Felix L. Christian of Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Christian; one son, Felix Christian; two brothers, Eugene and Jordan Christian; three sisters, Marion Allen, Annie Christian and Zelma Tune; a host of nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Christian; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Wednesday 1 p.m. Pastor Barbara Allen officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

CLARK
Annette P. Clark, 94, formerly of Richmond and Charlottesville, Va., and more recently of School St., Acton, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, October 17, 2000. Born in Great Bridge, Va., March 22, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Jens and Margaret (Luken) Petersen. A writer and accomplished pianist, she traveled extensively with her late husband, Murray W. Clark, who died in 1990. They lived for many years in the Orient and Latin America. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Concord, Annette took enormous pleasure in everyone and everything. She will be sorely missed by her family as well as friends of all ages and a vast assortment of animals. She leaves her daughters, Greta Ghee and her husband, Peter of New York City; her daughter, Janet Clark and her husband, Norbert Salz, with whom she made her home in Acton; and four sons, Murray O. of Hatteras, N.C., William G. and Jens W., both of Charlottesville and Alexander P. Clark of Annapolis, Md. She is also survived by six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and her nephew. Friends are invited to attend memorial services in the chapel of Trinity Church on Tuesday, October 31, at 3 p.m. Rev. David M. Barney, rector, will officiate and a reception will follow. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. on Monday, October 30 at 11 a.m. For those who wish, gifts in her memory may be sent to Trinity Church, 81 Elm St., Concord, Mass. 01742; The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. CLARKE
George Benjamin Clarke III, 86, of Kenbridge, Va., died October 23, 2000. Mr. Clarke was a life long member of the Kenbridge Baptist Church and had served as superintendent of Sunday school and also as a deacon. He served on the board of the Virginia Baptist Home and also on the board of Averett College in Danville. He was a former chairman of the board of Virginia National Bank (later Sovran Bank) in Victoria and served on the board of the Association of General Contractors of Virginia. He was a former member of the Kenbridge Town Council and served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. When Mr. Clarke returned from the war he and W. Roland Walker started the Kenbridge Construction Company and Kenbridge Manufacturing & Supply Company which they operated for thirty-five years. Mr. Clarke also started K.B.S. in Richmond in 1975 and helped start the Mid Eastern Builders, Inc., in Virginia Beach in 1981. He is survived by his wife, Jane Matthews Clarke; his daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy C. and Robert Cavanna of Winter Park, Fla. and Alice C. and Watkins Hunt Jr. of Richmond; his son and daughter-in-law, George B. Clarke IV and Pamela Clarke of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Katherine Hunt, Watkins Hunt III, Cabot Hunt, George B. Clarke V and Laney Clarke; and his brother, Thomas D. Clarke of Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 25 in the Kenbridge Baptist Church with burial in the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends at all times at their home in Kenbridge. Memorial donations may be made to the Kenbridge Baptist Church Endowment Fund or to your favorite charity. DANIEL
Elizabeth Austin Daniel, 85, of Richmond, Va., widow of Fred H. Daniel, died October 23, 2000. Daughter of the late Rev. Daniel M. Austin and Willie Timmons Austin; sister of the late Rev. Myles M. Austin, she is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Byrd Watkins of Gordonsville, Va.; and her son and daughter-in-law, Fred H. Daniel Jr. and Judy C. Daniel of Richmond; four grandchildren, Robert Garland Watkins Jr., Elizabeth Watkins Nordquist, Jean Austin Watkins, David Austin Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Candice Nordquist and Christopher Nordquist. Mrs. Daniel retired after thirty years of teaching in the Colonial Heights public school system. She was past president of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the Colonial Heights Retired Teachers Group and a member of Ledbetter Christian Church. EUBANK
Clavel (Clay) Tyrus Eubank Sr., 77, of Richmond, passed away Monday, October 23, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy A. Eubank; one son, Clavel (Clay) Tyrus Eubank Jr. and his wife, Barbara Rice Eubank; three daughters, Donna Eubank Hite and her husband, Louis H. Hite, Lesley Allman Eubank, Kimberly Eubank Harrington and her husband, Jeffrey J. Harrington; five grandchildren, Carson Eubank, Emily and Monica Hite, Wade and Kate Harrington. Mr. Eubank was retired from Automotive Rebuilders of Richmond Ford, where he was general manager. Mr. Eubank was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church, a graduate of the University of Richmond and a veteran of WWII. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following his children’s and grandchildren’s sports activities. His remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Richmond, Spider Club Athletic Fund.

Rickie E. Guisinger, age 57, of Sandston, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna J. Guisinger; three daughters, Deborah Southall and her husband, David, Mindy Blackburn and Kristine Guisinger; one sister, Cheri Gifford. Rick was the owner-operator of R&D Sales & Service for 20 years. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and where funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Audrey Reaves Hardy, 88, of Richmond, widow of Bernard E. Hardy, died Monday, October 23, 2000. She is survived by two sisters, Virginia R. Duffie and Margaret R. Saunders, both of South Boston; also numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hardy was retired from Southern Biscuit.
