HUGHEY
Harold L. Hughey Sr., of Richmond, died Sunday, October 22, 2000. He was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His love of family and friends, his generosity, his sense of humor and contagious laughter, will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott R. Hughey. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara H. Hughey; two sons and their wives, Harold L. Hughey Jr. and DeAun W. Hughey, Stephen L. Hughey and Sherri E. Hughey; and his beloved daughter, Susan H. Scurry; and four grandchildren, Harold L. (Chip) Hughey III, Elizabeth H. Hughey, Alexandra E. Hughey and Henry R. Hughey. Mr. Hughey served as vice president of Republic Lumber Co. and was an active member of the Richmond Homebuilders Association for many years. He was most recently president and broker of Hughey Real Estate. Family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Bon Air United Methodist Church. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 429, Richmond, Va. 23218-0429.

IVERSON
Mrs. Dorothy Toler Iverson of 1607 Westover Hills Blvd. departed this life October 23, 2000 at Johnston-Willis Hospital. She was a retired employee of Thalhimers Department Store, 6th Street. The staff of W. S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

JOHNSON
Kelly S. Johnson, 29, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 22, 2000. She is survived by her parents, Rev. H. John Johnson Jr. and his wife, Carolyn; and two sisters, Patricia Williams and Rebecca Johnson. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Lee Baptist Church. Interment Taylorsville Baptist Church Cemetery in Doswell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Tumor Support Group or Henrico Vol. Rescue Squad.

KORB
Heinrich (Heinz) Christian Korb, 79, of Richmond, formerly of Offenbach, Germany, departed this life on Saturday, October 21, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Herta Franciszka Korb; his children, Ursula Herta Korb, Heinz Jurgen Korb, Sylvia Irene Korb and Sonja Brigitte Korb; a granddaughter, Emily Marie Korb; a niece, Karin Leyh and her family of Offenbach, Germany. Mr. Korb retired from Inta-Roto in March 1986 after 22 years of service. A memorial service will be held at Corinth United Methodist Church, Sandston, Va., 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and also at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.

LANE
Matthew Duncan Lane, 19, of Chesterfield, died Monday, October 23, 2000. He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Jean Lane; paternal grandparents, Frederick and Reatha Lane; maternal grandmother, Eleanor Duncan; two uncles, William and Robert Lane; three aunts, Sandra Kapetanakis, Nancy Gulick and Lilly Duncan. Matthew was a former poster child for the Central Virginia Muscular Dystrophy Association, graduate of L.C. Bird High School and attended John Tyler Community College. Funeral notice later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MDA or Make a Wish Foundation.

LYNN
Grace Lunsford Friend Lynn died Monday, October 23, 2000. A native of Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Grace Irving Lunsford and John Wesley Friend. She was a graduate of Mary Baldwin College. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a former regent of the Frances Bland Randolph Chapter of the DAR. She is survived by a sister, Hibernia Friend Richardson of Edinburg, Texas; one daughter, Jean Elizabeth Lynn of Richmond; and three sons, Dr. Clabe Webster Lynn Jr. and his wife, Jean of Raleigh, N.C., Dr. John Worth Lynn and his wife, Donnan of Petersburg and Robert Page Lynn of Salem, Va. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Chloe Lynn Getsey and her husband, Michael of Fenton, Mo., Susan Lynn Reeves and her husband, Edward of Raleigh, N.C., Dr. Catherine Lynn Leigh and her husband, Timothy of Gloucester, Va., John Worth Lynn Jr. of New York, N.Y., Mary Page Lynn Rich and her husband, Kenneth of Raleigh, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Donnan Leigh and Mary Morgan Leigh of Gloucester, Va. and Jennifer Lynn Rich of Raleigh, N.C. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. at Blandford Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Boston M. Lackey Jr. officiating. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to your favorite charity. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg Chapel.

MOORE
Constance Vaden Rupel Moore of Burke, Va., formerly of Richmond, Va., died October 22, 2000. She was born January 17, 1914, to the late Constance Daniel and Claude Hancock Vaden of Danville. She was the widow of Edward Deeble Moore, her second husband. Several years prior to her marriage to Mr. Moore in 1957, she had been widowed by her first husband, John D. Rupel. She is survived by her son, John D. Rupel Jr. and his wife, Martha of Burke, Va.; and her grandson, John D. Rupel III of Richmond, Va. She was a graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond and also of the Pan American Business School. She was an elementary school teacher and principal in the Chesterfield County school system for many years. She also served as president of the Chesterfield Principals’ Assoc. and Secretary of the Chesterfield Teachers’ Assoc. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club, the Ginter Park Woman’s Club, and a member of Ginter Park Baptist Church. Private interment at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Ginter Park Baptist Church in the chapel on Thursday, October 26, 2000, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ginter Park Baptist Church, Richmond.

MUNSON
Granville Munson, 80, of Richmond, died October 23, 2000 at The Windsor after a long illness. Mr. Munson served as organist and choirmaster at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church from 1947 until his retirement in 1985, when he was appointed consultant for church music for the Diocese of Virginia. Mr. Munson grew up in Washington, D.C., where he was a member of the boy choir of the National Cathedral and later, Head Crucifer. After Edgar Priest, the Cathedral’s organist and choirmaster, died suddenly, Granville Munson was determined to follow in his footsteps. He studied with the leading church musicians of his time and earned a bachelor of music degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In retirement, he served as Central Virginia representative for the National Cathedral Association. After graduation, he joined the Army, serving as first lieutenant, in field artillery in France and Germany. After World War II, he returned to Philadelphia, where he served as organist at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church until his appointment at St. Stephen’s. While at St. Stephen’s, he taught music at St. Christopher’s School and directed the Glee Club there and at St. Catherine’s. Mr. Munson was active in developing the musical life of Richmond. He was a founder of the Richmond Symphony and served as chapter dean of the American Guild of Organists. He initiated the summer Wednesday Evenings of Organ Music, providing concert opportunities for both world-famous organists and students on the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ he designed for St. Stephen’s Church, the last organ built by the late Donald Harrison. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Munson Goff of South River, New Jersey; and two sisters, Aline Sullivan of Seaford, Delaware and Hilda Walton of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Services will be held at St. Stephen’s on Friday, October 27 at 2 p.m. with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

NOSTRANDT
Rolfe Vincent Nostrandt, age 89, of 199 Oakwood Circle, Danville, Va., died Sunday night, October 22, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born April 25, 1911 in Danville, Virginia, a son of John Earl and Myrtle Poole Nostrandt. He was married to Eva Stack Nostrandt on January 8, 1933. He worked many years for Virginia Trailway Company and also a seasonal inspector of Government Tobacco for Virginia Tobacco Company until retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a life long member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. He was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Terry, Nellie McFall, and Virgie Haymore; and two brothers, Dudley Earl Nostrandt and Richard Edward Nostrandt. Survivors include his wife, Eva of the residence; one daughter, Dr. Jeanne R. Nostrandt of Danville, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert V. Nostrandt and Hilda Carter Nostrandt of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Myrene Hawkins of Chatham Va., and Anne Griffin of Danville; two granddaughters, Dr. Amy Nostrandt Chism of Point of Rock, Maryland, and Dr. Sandra Jeanne Nostrandt of Purcelville, Va. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at 1 p.m. from Highland Burial Park by Father James Mathieson and Father Haywood Spangler. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Tuesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence.

PRICE
Ethel Elizabeth Hicks Price, widow of Chance T. Price, 84, of Victoria, Va., died October 22, 2000. She is survived by seven daughters, Dorothy Latham of Blackstone, Elizabeth Woodsin of Colonial Heights, Lucille McKinney of Grifton, N.C., Patricia Price, Wilma Davis, both of Chase City, Frances Shelton of Drakes Branch and Peggy Ann Tamersoy of Clarksville; four sons, Roger Price of Ft. Mitchell, Chance Price Jr. of Fredericksburg, Rex Price and Tex Price, both of Chase City; one sister, Hazel Armes of Blackstone; two brothers, Joseph Hicks of Alexandria and Waightsel Hicks of Morehead City, N.C.; 38 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the residence October 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Reverends Avery Smith, Argle Johnson and Chance Price Jr. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chase City Rescue Squad. Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

RICE
Armena B. Rice, 78, of Richmond, died Monday, October 23, 2000. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Rice and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Melvin T. and Alice Rice; two granddaughters, Leslie and Melissa Rice; brother, James Benner; and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home’s Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

ROSE
Mrs. Frances Merz Rose, widow of Samuel Rutherfoord Rose Jr., died October 22, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Frank Merz and Lena Crissey Merz of Jamestown, N.Y. A graduate of the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., she also graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School and attended Columbia University. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia, The Woman’s Club and The Country Club of Virginia. She was a former president and member of the Senior Board of Children’s Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Jones Munford; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. James Dee Richardson of Jamestown, N.Y. Her son, Ralph C. Jones, predeceased her. The family will receive friends at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. A graveside service will be held in Jamestown, N.Y.

ROUMILLAT
Frank M. Roumillat Jr., 76, of Deltaville, died Monday, October 23, 2000. He retired from Hanover County as building inspector. Survived by two sons, Frank M. Roumillat III and his wife, Wendie and John D. Roumillat and his wife, Joanie; four grandchildren, Michelle, Shay, Luke and Tessa. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 26 at 6 p.m. in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.

SCOTT
Departed this life on October 17, 2000, Debbie Scott. She is survived by her son, Joshua A. Scott; godparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hall; grandparents, Ada and Welford King; a host of aunts, uncles, church family; other relatives and friends. Remains may be viewed 12 Noon Wednesday at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Graveside services will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery, 1 p.m.

SCOTT
Susie Sutton Scott left her bed of affliction in Richmond, Va. on October 20, 2000. Her spirit is now free to join those who have gone before her including husband, Odell Scott; father, Warren Sutton Sr.; mother, Emma Sutton; sister, Ada Bailey; brothers, Warren Jr., Stevenson and Freddie Lee Sutton. Those still here who miss her include daughter, Alease Kearney; sister and brother-in-law, James and Hazel El; granddaughters, Bernadine (Stanley) Jones, Joann Kearney, Wanda (Anthony) Randolph and Cassandra (Eddie) Bullock; six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, two devoted, Ada Thompson and Emma Robinson; nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service 12 noon Wednesday, October 25, 2000, Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull Street, Richmond, Va.

SPRUILL
Allen L. Spruill, 65, of Midlothian, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Jean Wills Spruill; his daughter, Kathryn Spruill Lingle and her husband, T. Andrew Lingle; his grandson, Jacob Thomas Lingle, all of Midlothian; and his brother, The Hon. Joseph E. Spruill Jr. of Tappahannock. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerome Powell (Jerry) Spruill. Mr. Spruill attended St. Christopher’s School and Randolph Macon College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Spruill was the owner of Colorcraft Press, Ltd. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

TELLER
Susan Riddell Teller of Richmond, widow of Forrest Gordan Teller, died Sunday, October 22, 2000. She is survived by two sons, Forrest M. Teller of Richmond, Va. and William Linwood Teller of Englewood, Fla.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen, Va., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday). A private interment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond.

THOMAS
Robert Allen Thomas of Richmond was born October 22, 1927 and died October 19, 2000. Mr. Thomas was a man with a generous heart and spirit who left us to join others he loved in a better place. A native of Newport News, Va., he left as a young man to attend Randolph-Macon College. After graduation, he entered the seminary and studied for the priesthood. Realizing this was not his calling, he left and briefly worked for the Highway Department of Virginia before becoming an educator. Mr. Thomas began his teaching career in Lawrenceville, Va. He later taught and served as Dean of Discipline at Norfolk Catholic High School and also taught at West Point High School as well as Kennedy High School in the city of Richmond. In 1966, he received his master’s degree from the University of Virginia. He culminated his teaching career as Major Thomas at Fork Union military Academy and retired to Richmond in 1992 after 22 years at the academy. Throughout his career he shared his wisdom and good humor with his students and coworkers. A member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, a concerned educator, a good friend and a man of a million stories, Robert A. Thomas left an impression on all he knew. He will be missed. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fork Union military Academy Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.
