REGELSON
A memorial service will be held for Dr. William Regelson, medical pioneer, Monday, June 3, at 3 p.m. at the MCV Medical Sciences Building, 13th and Marshall Streets, Richmond, Va.

ROBBINS
Claude S. Robbins, known by his grandchildren as "Pop" or "Pa Pa," age 79, went home to be with the Lord May 30, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Iva M. Robbins; his daughters, Judy R. Higgins, Belva Chesbro and her husband, David, Marge Via; his sons, Ronald L. Robbins, Claude M. Robbins and his wife, Bonnie, Kenneth D. Robbins; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, five brothers, one sister, and a host of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Jan, Bubba, Casey, Bruce, Mike, Ronnie Jr., Chris and Travis. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, where services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. SIMPSON
George Wayne Simpson of Chesterfield passed away May 30, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara L. Simpson. He is survived by his son, Anthony Simpson Sr. and his wife, Odene; grandchildren, T.J. and Terri Simpson; sisters, Barbara Ann Pate and Betty White. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where services will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment private.

SLATER
Matthew "Jew" Slater Sr. departed this life on May 27, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Bell Slater. He leaves to cherish his memory six daughters, Ruby Wiggins, Dorothy Jones, Hannah Mathis, Barbara Slater, Catherine Peeples of New Jersey and Rosalie Slater; two sons, Harry "Squirrel" and Alfred Maurice Slater; 45 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Corinne Pringer of South Carolina; three sons-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among them a devoted friend, Emanuel Johnson. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where the family will receive friends Friday (tonight) from 7 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon from Broomfield Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 609 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Elby Lee Sours, 83, of Pine Brook Rd., Richmond, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in Chippenham Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Betty Virginia Pitcock Sours; a son, Kim Allen Sours of Chesterfield County, Va.; two daughters, Peggy Lee Kirkland of Ashland, Va. and Sandra Jane Shortridge of Powhatan, Va.; a brother, Edward Sours of Frederick County, Va.; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Winchester, Va., with burial to follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Va. TOMPKINS
Mervin M. Tompkins of Richmond passed away May 29, 2002. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Jossette Tompkins; three sons, Derius and Deaundrey Tompkins and Teddy Norris; a daughter, Dominique Tompkins, all of Richmond, Va.; parents, Franklin and Gladys Tompkins of Richmond, Va.; grandparents, Mary Washington, Beatrice Tompkins and Junius Tompkins; three sisters, Beverly and Tina Tompkins and Merilyn Patterson (fraternal twin); two brothers, Glenwood and Tyrone Tompkins; a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at First Mount Olive Baptist Church. A second viewing will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at First Mount Olive Baptist Church, P.O. Box 57, Newtown, Va. 23126.

WARD
Roberta Bradley Ward, age 75, died on Saturday, May 25, 2002. Mrs. Ward was born in Hanover County, Va. on March 10, 1927 to the late John Richard and Nell Woolfolk Bradley. She was married to the late Earl Vincent Ward in 1955. She graduated from Hampton Institute with a degree in Nursing, and was a retired Registered Nurse for the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va. Roberta is survived by her son, Darryl V. Ward; her daughter, Gwendolyn T. Ward (USN) of Yorktown, Va.; two brothers, John Henry and Robert Bradley; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella B. Sanders and Mrs. Theresa B. Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, one brother, Douglas; and one sister, Mary B. Boge preceded her in death. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Ashland, Va.. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Hampton Roads.

WILLIAMS
Departed this life May 28, 2002, James (Big Bill) Williams of 3313 Barton Ave. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Bobbitt Williams. He is survived by three brothers, John (Earl), Theodore R. and Ralph Williams; stepson, Carl Moody; four aunts, Ruth Scott, Lula, Geraldine and Sadie Briggs; two uncles, Joseph Briggs and Wilson Scott; six nieces, eight nephews, and cousins; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Lee, Joyce R. and Bertha C. Williams; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Saturday, 11 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1902 Rosewood Avenue, where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time, Rev. Ronnie Fleming (pastor), Rev. James Ryan officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

WOOD
Charles Burrell Wood, 86, native of Rappahannock County, resident of Blacksburg, died May 29, 2002 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Dudley and Lucy Henry Wood; by his brothers, Brereton Jones Wood, John Dudley Wood; and by his sister, Nellie Roberts Wood Smith. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Crabill Wood; two daughters, Amenta W. Buckner of Midlothian, Va., Ruth W. Meier, Morristown, N.J.; and one son, Charles Burrell Wood Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Wood was a retired faculty member of Virginia Tech, an active member of Virginia State Horticultural Society, and the Institute of Food Technologists, the Blacksburg Baptist Church, the Host Lions Club and several Honor Societies. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Blacksburg Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. BATTLE
William J. Battle, age 70, of 1926 Idlewood Ave., Richmond, died April 19, 2001 at Retreat Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Frances Battle. His remains rest at K.L. BAUER
Florence B. Bauer, of Richmond, widow of John Otto Bauer, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. She is survived by her sister, Nada Phillips of New York. Mrs. Bauer was retired from Reynolds Metals. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

BEVILLE
Lee Harlan Beville passed away April 23, 2001 at Sentara Bayside Hospital. He was born January 8, 1920 in Blackstone, Virginia. He was the son of the late Norwood Lee Beville and Grace Ritchie Beville. He was a graduate of Blackstone High School, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Candler School of Theology, Emory University. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Protestant Episcopal Seminary and earned a Doctorate of Ministry from Bethany Theological Seminary. He was an active member of the Virginia Tech Athletic Association and Alumni Association. He was retired from the ministry of the United Methodist Church, Virginia Conference. During his 27 years in the active ministry, he served churches in Heathsville, Fredericksburg, Alexandria, Suffolk, Richmond, Martinsville and two churches in Virginia Beach, Baylake and Haygood. He was a former trustee of Ferrum College, Ferrum, Virginia and a member of the Historical Society of the Virginia United Methodist Church. He had a distinguished military career, which included service in World War II with the 9th Infantry Division and was recalled to duty during the Korean War, serving with the 25th Infantry Division. He received over 14 awards and decorations including the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, four Bronze Campaign Stars and the Purple Heart. He retired as a colonel in the US Army Reserve in 1976, and was a member of the American Legion, the military Order of the World Wars and the Reserve Officers Association. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Bowers Beville; a daughter, Ellen Beville Mitchell and her husband, Eddie Mitchell of Danville, Virginia; and a daughter, Nancy Beville Prichard and her husband, Bruce Prichard of Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald Traylor, the Rev. W. Michael Nobles and the Rev. Ted E. David at 11 a.m. Thursday April 26, 2001, at Haygood United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, Virginia Thursday at 3:30 p.m. led by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Dillard Jr. and the Rev. Sylvia Meadows. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home Bayside Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Haygood United Methodist Church, 4713 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23455 or the Baylake United Methodist Church, 4300 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23455.

James N. Brooks, age 73, died April 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Helen T. Brooks; three children, Walter Harris, Brenda Doss and Barbara Maiden; five brothers and two sisters, five grandchildren. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 2110 W. Laburnum Ave., where friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, New Bridge Baptist Church. Interment family plot, Tappahannock, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund.

BUCKNER
Paige Beasley Buckner of Richmond, died Monday, April 23, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Robin B. Monk and her husband, James H. Monk of Richmond, Linda B. Jarvis and her husband Charles D. Jarvis of Moyock, N.C.; four grandchildren; and her sister, Judith B. Crank of Richomnd. Mrs. Buckner was retired from the State of Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice. A memorial service will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Bon Air Christian Church. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. CHENAULT
Pike Floyd Chenault, 91, of Bealeton and formerly of Gloucester, died on Sunday, April 22, 2001 in Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton. He was a native of Newtown, Va. and was a US Army veteran of WWII. He retired in 1975 after over 25 years of service from the Virginia Department of Highways as Superintendent of the Mathews Office. He is survived by his daughter, Judy C, Brynildsen and her husband, Herb, of Westfield, N.J.; three sisters, Irene Chenault and Esther Jinnette, both of Richmond and Rebecca Tyrrel of Newtown, Va.; three grandchildren, Joshua, Vicki and Pike. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at Ware Episcopal Church Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061. Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.

COUTLAKIS
A memorial service for Phyllis Seay Coutlakis will be held Saturday, April 28, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Bremo Bluff, Va.

Harry Phillips Dame, 85, died April 24, 2001. Survived by his wife, Elsie G. Dame; stepson, G. Sheldon Ayres; stepdaughter, Jane D. Ayres; five stepgrandchildren, Brent, Bryan, Matthew, Tim and Laura; two sisters, Pauline Carter and Evelyn Mills; one brother, Donald Dame. Burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington, Va.
